    Paneer tikka masala

Not sure what happened, but food was completely different today than last week. Paneer tikka masala was covered and surrounded in a large amount of oil. Every bite today tasted oily and coated your tongue. I also have to add the curry lacked favor today, it was very bland tasting for a curry. Unfortunately I won't return a 3rd time. But enjoyed my first visit, as you can see the curry is different from my visit today.

RECOMMENDED I'm back to writing this year after enjoying retirement and launching a new social group in 2022. Let's go! Spice Hub is a very casual and non-descript storefront restaurant just north of the LIRR station on Jackson Avenue in Syosset where I hosted a dinner for my dining group on January 5, 2023. You can park in the LIRR lot (being careful about parking signs, of course) and access this restaurant from the rear. The restaurant seats about 16 people and the menu is very limited and, unlike most Indian restaurants, it is really not a place for vegetarians. However, prices are very wallet-friendly. The restaurant does not have a liquor license but allows diners to bring wine or beer. In this regard, the deli a few storefronts south sells cold beer. The friendly owner greeted me upon arrival and my fellow diners arrived shortly. Service was pleasant and attentive and we did not feel neglected, despite the large volume of takeout orders as we sat. Each of my four companions enjoyed the Samosas. They were greaseless, well-seasoned and delivered a hot kick. I enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala, a version that compared favorably to the great versions served at more established restaurants like Akbar in GC. I loved that the dish had a lot of "gravy" to coat my Basmati Rice. The white meat Chicken was well cooked, tender and well-seasoned. My companions enjoyed the Karachi Chicken. The Naan, Butter and Garlic, were good but more crisp than puffy. Thus concluded a good Indian meal. BOTTOM LINE: Spice Hub, despite its limited menu, is a worthy destination for good Indian food.

I'm so happy I stumbled upon this place! I tried this place by chance and had no idea it was a new spot. I was surprised to be greeted as soon as I walked in the door by the friendliest people who showed me their recommendations and showed me around the restaurant. They have an open concept kitchen where you can watch them cook and make their fresh made naan from dough to tandoor to plate. I got a paneer karahi bowl with white rice and garlic naan. The staff were all so lovely and personable and the food was delicious. Can't wait to go back

The revamp of this commercial space is incredible! Raj G. the prop did a fantastic job making this venue comfortable and a clean enviornment. The kitchen is open and surrounded by glass so you can see the magic being made. They have 2 large Tandori ovens for the naan and skewers of meat. Bon G. and I chose some old standards to try the food. We got 2 Samosas, perfectly cooked with no greasy feel and stuffed to the brim! I checked out the different sauces and they looked great. We got the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was perfect...sauce was heavenly and chicken tender and juicy. Bon chose the Lamb Tikka..the large cubes of lamb were coated with spices that accentuated the taste after spending time in the Tandori oven. We use the Chili garlic naan to dip into the sauces and to place pieces of lamb or chicken on them and devoured every bite. We were very pleased with what we had and cant wait to return to try other choices on their menu! I highly recommend trying Spice Hub...for a small place it really packs the flavors11

Garlic Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala

I came here last week for an event, and got to enjoy basically a tasting menu of sorts…read more This menu took Indian flavors on a seriously fun ride. From rich and smoky to spicy, tangy, creamy, and refreshing. Banjara Tikka brought tender chicken thighs layered with yogurt, fried onion and garlic. Mauryaji Basket Chaat delivered chickpeas, potato, tamarind, mint, pomegranate and a creamy yogurt mousse. The Chicken Seekh Kebab was perfectly seasoned and savory with pickled laccha onion, while the Guntur Chilli Chicken Bao turned up the heat with Guntur red chili, sesame and refreshing beetroot shikanji shots. The vegetarian dishes absolutely held their own as well. Chilli Momo with carrot, sesame and seaweed, came out with a soft, delicate bite and a subtle chew, filled with a lightly spiced vegetable mix that leaned savory and aromatic rather than overpowering heat. The Paneer Makhni was rich, velvety, and deeply comforting. The paneer stayed soft and pillowy, soaking up a buttery tomato-cashew gravy that was slightly sweet, gently tangy, and finished with that unmistakable fenugreek aroma that tied everything together. The mains were just as unforgettable. Laal Maas came in bold and unapologetic. Tender goat slow-cooked until it practically melted off the bone, swimming in a deep, smoky gravy built on mathania chilies that brought slow heat. The Shrimp Malai Curry was the complete opposite in tone. Silky coconut milk wrapped around plump tiger shrimp, with Bengali whole spices adding a gentle sweetness and aromatic depth that made the dish feel light yet indulgent at the same time. And somehow dessert still had room to impress. Rose Kulfi was creamy, floral and sweet without being overwhelming. Drinks included everything from the floral, mezcal-and-rooza Gulabo to Mango Lassi. And as someone who historically doesn't like anything rose flavored, I enjoyed both the drink AND the dessert. Just as good as the food, was the service. It is definitely a spot that should not be missed.

The space is modern and beautifully decorated, but still has that cozy, comfortable feeling that makes you want to settle in, order way too much food, and stay awhile. The staff was also wonderful. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and, most importantly to me, genuinely knowledgeable about the menu. I always appreciate when the people working at a restaurant can actually talk to you about the dishes, ingredients, flavors, and what makes something special. It makes the whole experience feel much more personal. But the FOOD is absolutely the star here. Everything we tried was full of flavor, beautifully presented, and just so satisfying. My favorite dish was hands down the chili chicken momos. They had exactly the right amount of heat--spicy enough to give you that little kick, but not so much that it overpowered everything else going on in the dish. The momos themselves were delicious, and the combination of spice, savory flavor, and texture made them something I could honestly order over and over again. I also love that Banjara has some more unique cocktails rather than just the standard drinks you see everywhere. They fit the modern feel of the restaurant really well and make it a fun place to come for dinner, drinks, or both. As someone who genuinely LOVES Indian food and is always excited to explore different dishes and regional flavors, I really enjoyed my experience here. Banjara manages to feel modern without losing the soul and flavor that makes Indian food so special. Great atmosphere, genuinely kind and knowledgeable people, creative drinks, and food that makes you start thinking about what you're ordering next before you've even finished what's in front of you. If you're looking for a cozy, modern Indian restaurant with a little personality and some seriously delicious food, give Banjara a try. And please do yourself a favor and order the chili chicken momos.

I was so happy to hear that they opened another restaurant in Glen Cove! Plenty of street parking is available, and they even have a shared parking lot in back of the restaurant! I parked in the back, and entered the restaurant via the backdoor! Note that there are stairs at the back entrance, so if you can't do stairs, it's best to park in front of the restaurant. This Glen Cove locations is lovely; beautiful murals and great vibes. I was shocked and sad to see it so empty on a Saturday evening! I hope more people give this place a chance because the food and service is great! This was our Shared Menu (plenty for 2ppl, and we had leftovers): -- Water Buffalo Momos w.Chili Sauce (8pcs/$18): the Momos were tasty; the meat was very lean. I would skip the Chili sauce next time. I didn't like the sweet and sour taste of the sauce, so next time I'd like to try the steamed Momos with Johl sauce instead. -- Choila Roti "Not a Taco" with Jackfruit (2pcs/$12): Not a Taco but similar to a taco. This was delicious and I'd get this again. We choice the Jackfruit version but they also have a chicken version. -- Masala Wings (Sauteed wet version) (4pcs/$11): I remember really liking the wings when I was at the Ridgewood location but couldn't recall which wings we had. On this visit, we had the wet version which was good but I realized that I like their dry version better. -- Grilled Lamb Chops w.Timur Sauce, Veggies & white rice (2pcs/$25): Surprisingly, this was my least fave dish of the night. I normally love lamb chops but these chops didn't really have a nice seared taste to them. The texture was a little off for me. Also, it was very boney with not much meat. I would try another entree next time. All in all, a good meal! I found the large selection of appetizers more interesting than the entrees, and would have been happy just sharing a bunch of appetizers and small plates. Customer service was welcoming and friendly! It was a pleasure to chat with the owner. Nice addition to the neighborhood!

Given the culinary brilliance here, if you order one of your favorites, it'll be done well, but you're better off trying something unique that might not be on the menu at your local Chinese, Indian or Thai spot. Chili tofu and basil ginger fish were two great showcases for the complex spices available here. (I'm a real American hero, I ate fourths since my parents preferred leftovers that didn't have the top spice levels). And if you're spice-adverse yet chili-curious, the honey chili potato is worth a shot. These are essentially fries. Our server, Ten, was amazing. My only complaint? My stomach has a limit…read more My family and I have been coming to Diwan for years, and this is hands down our go-to spot for Indian all-you-can-eat. I used to frequent the Indian buffets in Jackson Heights, and honestly, Diwan is just as good, if not better! One thing I really appreciate is that they have their own parking lot, the dining room is spacious, and as a parent, I was thrilled to see they have baby high chairs. Those little details make a big difference. We stopped by for their weekday AYCE special at just $15 per adult, which is an incredible value! My plate always ends up looking the same because I can't resist the chicken biryani, palak paneer, and that rich, creamy butter chicken. Oh, and they mostly use chicken thighs! So tender and moist! I keep telling myself I'll try something different... then I walk back with the exact same favorites. No regrets. We also ordered the mango lassi, and it was fantastic! Just a little tip: it comes with ice by default, so if you prefer it without ice, just let them know when ordering. The food quality has been consistently excellent every time we've visited, and the service has always been warm and attentive. Another thing I enjoy is how peaceful the dining room is. It's not loud or chaotic. Everyone seems completely focused on the important business of enjoying their food. A couple of helpful tips: the buffet is dine-in only, so you can't pack up buffet food to take home. If you're ordering takeout, you'll need to order from the regular menu instead. They also offer children's pricing for the buffet, so if you're unsure about the details, just give them a quick call. If you're craving great Indian food without emptying your wallet, Diwan continues to be one of my favorite AYCE spots. Highly recommended!
