I'm not going to talk really bad about Eye Center, but I am also not going to say I got the best…read morecare either. I have been wearing eyeglasses/Contacts for decades now. My old Eye Doctor back in my hometown only had 1 person working in the office. It always seemed that I was in and out quickly. There are 3 providers that I know of here. I lost count of the number of people working in this business, this just needlessly drives up the cost of care in my opinion. My primary issue is I was careless and let the provider prescribe a contact lens that did not work correctly. I made contact and was told they would order a trial lens and call me back for another fitting That was months ago and I still have not heard back. I'm not going back, and it's a shame because this clinic is almost within walking distance from my home.

I have debated for some time whether to leave a review of my experience or not and, after finally…read morereceiving some clarity from Transitions directly, decided it was time. We recently moved to New Kent from Texas and in establishing new Doctor/Patient relationships opted to purchase my new eyeglasses from New Kent Eye Care to "support a local business" several weeks ago. I didn't get my exam there, only ordered glasses, and worked with Patty who was very nice and helpful. I decided on a pair of lined-bifocals with the Transition lenses and was told (and shown on my invoice) that the lenses they recommended and ordered were the darker XTRActive lenses as my eyes are quite light sensitive, and was told they would be best for my needs. When I received the glasses they hardly darkened at all, but I gave it a few days to see if it was just me. A few days later I called and went back in person to show the issue to her and inquire if the lab could possibly have made a mistake and/or if the lenses were just duds. She used the UV light they had and the lenses darkened quite nicely, but outside on that very sunny day...nothing near what they did in-store. Patty stated they would inquire with the lab they use, but would not take my glasses back until the correction was made and the new lenses arrived so I wouldn't be totally without. She also made several suggestions regarding size and placement of the bifocal lens (I didn't know there were options for this as it was all new to me), but I wanted to be sure that, considering the issue I was already having, if the glasses were not as expected, that I would be able to return or replace them and not be out my $200 (using VSP Insurance). She stated "yes", but also decided to go ahead and keep my glasses with the promise of a phone call in the next couple of days with the ultimate resolution. Well, I received a call from her stating that they were just going to refund my money...this is after waiting 2-3 weeks at this point to get my glasses and then fiddle around with them. I asked if they found out anything about the lenses and she said the Dr spoke with the lab and she "was not going to discuss it with me". I tried to press her for an answer so I could understand if Transitions were just not an option for me and again, she refused. I asked that she have the Dr please call me and share what he learned from the lab...(that never happened)...and by the end of my conversation with Patty she had become very forceful and rude about not giving me any answers. So...I had to start shopping again, once again looking at options and hoping that Transitions would work for me so I could get by with a single pair of glasses. Long story short, I FINALLY heard back from Transitions today and was told that the XTRActive lenses are not even available in lined bifocals. Had New Kent Eye Care just owned the mistake they made instead of covering it up by simply refunding my money (and severing any further relationship with them...their words, not mine) I would never be writing this review, but I believe people deserve to know who they're dealing with when making such an expensive purchase as this. It's sad, but as for good business sense, customer service and ethics...a big fat zero for this local business due to my personal experience.

He made a comment joking about needing brain surgery and said that if he had to get a brain, he would choose a female brain because women "never used them." I found this especially upsetting because my uncle, whom I am very close with, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor, so hearing him joke about brain surgery was particularly insensitive and uncomfortable for me. The comments continued throughout the appointment and made me feel increasingly uneasy. He also discouraged my goal of becoming a thoracic surgeon, saying that women in the workplace do not do very well because they always want time off. As a young woman with goals of pursuing a career in medicine, I found these comments extremely discouraging and inappropriate. I expected to be treated with professionalism and respect, but instead I left feeling uncomfortable because of the way he spoke about women and my future career.

Thinking about having 2nd Street install your hardwood floors? Highly recommend you look somewhere…read moreelse. We had hardwood flooring installed in our den and it was a nightmare from the get-go. Measurements were way off. Two extra boxes of flooring and ~40 feet of 1/4 round. When asked about what to do with the 2 boxes of flooring (that we paid for), was told "you can sell it on eBay". Really? Then there was the installation crew. No one spoke English so any questions I had resulted in blank stares. These were not W-2 employees but sub-contractors. This crew stained the 1/4 round us and it wasn't even close to matching the new flooring. And then there was the damage to the new flooring during installation. The large staple gun that was used to "nail" the flooring was placed dozens of times on the previously installed flooring leaving nail head size indentations across the entire floor. And then there was the "customer service". Made appointment with Ackerman (the owner?) to inspect the damage and he never showed up, he didn't call, text, or email that he was going to make it. During one of numerous calls, asked Jessica to have Ackerman call us. She emailed me that she couldn't get him to talk to us. But to be honest, full discloser: 2nd Street is giving us $40 for the 1/4 round. Bottom-line: we will never use 2nd Street again and will never recommend them to anyone.
