Thinking about having 2nd Street install your hardwood floors? Highly recommend you look somewhere else. We had hardwood flooring installed in our den and it was a nightmare from the get-go. Measurements were way off. Two extra boxes of flooring and ~40 feet of 1/4 round. When asked about what to do with the 2 boxes of flooring (that we paid for), was told "you can sell it on eBay". Really? Then there was the installation crew. No one spoke English so any questions I had resulted in blank stares. These were not W-2 employees but sub-contractors. This crew stained the 1/4 round us and it wasn't even close to matching the new flooring. And then there was the damage to the new flooring during installation. The large staple gun that was used to "nail" the flooring was placed dozens of times on the previously installed flooring leaving nail head size indentations across the entire floor. And then there was the "customer service". Made appointment with Ackerman (the owner?) to inspect the damage and he never showed up, he didn't call, text, or email that he was going to make it. During one of numerous calls, asked Jessica to have Ackerman call us. She emailed me that she couldn't get him to talk to us. But to be honest, full discloser: 2nd Street is giving us $40 for the 1/4 round. Bottom-line: we will never use 2nd Street again and will never recommend them to anyone. read more

Had these guys do a major flooring job in my home in Apr-May 2019. Rip up a bunch of tile, install new subfloor to match level of some existing hardwood floors, stitch in new wood where tile used to be, sand and restain everything. They gave a good estimate, I paid 1/2 and they started on time. Flooring looked great and workmanship was pretty good, but there was a ton of stain overlap onto painted surfaces. I called and asked them to fix it. They never came. two months later, they asked me to pay the rest of the invoice, and I told them I would - when they finished the job and painted over all the overstain, Then: radio silence. Three months later they asked me AGAIN to pay the rest of the invoice, and I told them AGAIN that I would pay when they finished the job. They sent a guy out who painted over all the overstain and then I paid. Took them 6 months, but it finally happened. While all this was happening, I asked for them to gimme an estimate on refurbing my bathroom. Mark came and took a lot of measurements, then I never heard from him again. So ..... pretty good job overall, but management and follow-thru is a bit lacking.... read more

The day they were supposed to arrive to take up an existing carpet, they did not show. Arrival time was supposed to be at 9:00. I got a call at 9:20 telling me that they were at my door but no one was answering. No one was at my door. A small giggle, and the person said that there must be a mixup and would get back to me. No one got back to me. I called again in 30 minutes and was told they were trying to work it out. At 10:30 I suggested we reschedule and they agreed. I had arranged my schedule to be home and then had to do the same thing for the next day. The next day the two people did show up, pulled up the carpeting, moved the furniture to the opposite end of the room, and cleaned up beautifully. The following day, the floor installers arrived and told me that they did not move furniture, and that the furniture should have been moved out of the room completely. I asked if that meant they would not install the floor and the installer said he would call the store. He took pictures, called the store, and eventually put down the floor, moving the furniture to the opposite side of the room. Needless to say, I did not want to be involved in this discussion at all. I also called the store for an explanation, and the person who answered the phone was clearly annoyed that they were hearing from me again and said they would talk to the installer. The following day, trim was being installed and they were half finished when the store sent people to move the furniture back into place. They could not do this because the floor was not completed and had to leave. They finished at 4:00 on Friday afternoon. They did not move the furniture back. A call to the store informed me that they could not move the furniture back until after the weekend. My family and I decided to do it ourselves, even though we were charged a fee for moving the furniture, both out and in. On Saturday morning our doorbell rang and there stood two lovely people who had come to clean the floor. But, they could not do that because the furniture was still scattered throughout the room. No one had called to let us know that anyone was coming to clean the floor, let alone in a Saturday morning. We wanted it cleaned, so we put the furniture back ourselves, and the two people eventually cleaned the floor. I had to speak to people in the office at least five times, all calls related to problems caused by poor scheduling, lack of communication and poor timing. Every time this happened the person I spoke with was just shy of rude, and clearly not able to put things right. They use subcontractors, so their only job is coordinating, obtaining the product and the scheduling. The job itself was beautifully done. The office staff and the scheduling was abysmal. read more

Had 2nd Street Floors install new vinyl plank and tile through entire 2 story house. Sara was very helpful in providing and loaning samples, was very patient when we delayed things and changed our minds after making a selection, accommodated install schedule around our other house renovations going on, and was never pushy or sales-y at all. The two install crews (separate crews for vinyl plank and tile) were hard-working and did a very professional job. The crew who removed the old floors also came back for several trips to fix things up and were always very friendly and helpful. I'm very pleased with the whole process and would definitely recommend 2nd St Floors and would use them again. read more

We had LVP floors installed, and interviewed many businesses in the Hampton Roads area. Had several disappointing interviews, and then Mark from 2nd Street Floors came out. Very professional, great price, and best of all we liked their samples more than any of the others we saw. The installation went quickly and was well done. I waited over a week to write this review because I wanted to see if the floors continued to please us. They are! We're really happy with them. One final bit of praise--during the installation the guy who did it saw a way to do something different that would look very professional but also save us about $100. How often does that happen! Usually people try to talk you into needing extra touches, not saving you money. Highly recommend this local business. read more

He inspected the floors the following day and offered to perform additional completion work. 10/26, James and another gentleman arrived to my home on schedule and quickly completed this task satisfactorily. As with prior encounters, Mark, James and the other gentleman were kind, personable and professional. 2nd Street Floors was recommended to me to refinish 700 sqft of wood floors and 1 flight of stairs treads. I lived in the home during this project. To start - everyone I dealt with was very kind and overall responsive. Generally speaking, the floors turned out well. The project started on 9/23 and was completed on 10/18, which I consider to be an outrageously lengthy project for such a small space. This did include an unexpected delay having to re-lay damaged wood, which was executed very well by Andy. Upon arrival on day one, the gentleman asked me what floors were being done and what carpet needed to be removed, as though they had received no instruction. After the initial day's work, the stain was laid. On inspection, I found bugs, dirt and paint chips adhered to the stain. I contacted the company, spoke with Sarah, who scheduled James to come out to review the floors. Both were very informative and helpful and listened to my concerns. I had two dates for poly application, the first date was a no call, no show, no explanation. On the second application of poly, the workers left my front door open which is immediately before the stairs. They worked from 8-9pm and with the light on, which attracted bugs. After they left, I picked mosquitoes and moths out of the poly on the stair treads. After 3 days of curing, I examined the remaining floors to find the same - gnats, flies, medium sized mosquitoes and moths adhered to the poly in every room upstairs. A door was also left open and adhered to the poly, causing damage when the door was moved. I contacted the company, James revisited, stating it would be an easy fix with buffing and applying another coat of poly. Four days later, a refinisher came, scraped up the bugs and applied a touch up spray poly. Sarah was always responsive to my contacts and answered questions and concerns I had, I want to be fair to the character of the people I interacted with. The quality of the work they back, however, is egregious. The staff was 1-2 hours late routinely. It is unacceptable to have the workers come at 8pm at night, in my opinion. I was given misinformation regarding who would be showing up to my home for the projects and what exactly would be done. One of the refinishers went through my closets and garage to find and use my vacuum and broom to clean up sawdust, stating he forgot his. The floors turned out sufficient enough and they did compensate me approximately 8% of my invoice for the inconvenience incurred. Unfortunately the former details are not enough to overcome the overwhelmingly poor experience I had with this company. Given the ongoing mistakes, lack of detail or regard, I would never recommend 2nd Street Floors to anyone looking to refinish their floors. read more

I forgot to write this review months ago. I'm actually looking to buy hardwood floors now and this popped up in the search and reminded me! The breakdown: 1. Was initially pleased with the response time to come out to measure the area we wanted carpeted 2. Then NOTHING. For weeks. 3. I call to ask. I get a girl and she says she will send along a quote and requires 50% down to start the project. Fair. 4. I get the quote and call to pay the 50% cost. Then no details on WHEN to expect the install. 5. I wait 3 WEEKS. I call again. I get another lady. She asks who I spoke to before because only that ONE person can help me. Excuse me?! I was supposed to be taking NOTES on who I spoke to? She couldn't look up my order number either because it was on the other girl's machine and she wasn't there. WHAT. 6. At this point I'm mad. First girl calls back and says there's a delay in shipping the carpet to the store. She says a random date of potential install. 7. Date comes. Husband and I both take off work to support the install. Nothing happens. I call AGAIN (because apparently it's MY job) first girl says"oh...how was your install? I'm like no one showed. "Oh yea...our binding machine is broken and it will be a few more days..." at this point I want to scream. 8. We schedule another day of install. My husband doesn't take the day as he doesn't trust this place now. She said she would call to tell me when they are at least an hour away. 9. 12 pm and no call. I call her. "Hi! How can I help you???" I explain that no one is here and such. She says "oh yea! They are in Richmond to pick up another binding machine. They should be there soon" 10. 2 hours goes by. A truck pulls up with workers. Thank GOD. But they had no carpet. Said another guy was bringing it. So they prepped the area which was great. 11. They wrap up and the other guy is still not here. They wait outside for him for another 2 hours. 12 . Carpet guy finally shows!!! And my carpet is in the back of his pick up truck and open to all of I-95s exhaust! Oh! What's that?! He's SMOKING too. I really hope at this point my carpet doesn't smell like diesel fumes and cigarette smoke. 12. Thankfully it's very faint smell. I allow the install to go on as I'm just DONE with this and want it to be over. BLUF: REALLY EXPENSIVE. TOOK MONTHS. WORST SERVICE EVER. read more

When it came to Tile, Hardwood & Vinyl, they had the best pricing and the necessary installation crews to install in a timely manner. All of Second Streets flooring was competitively priced and in most cases cheaper than the traditional box stores. I' ve told them, and I'm repeating here, I really want local businesses to thrive. Maybe since they are new , I'm an aberration. And the floor looks wonderful ,so no problems there. They were supposed to tear old carpet out on upstairs landing and stairs on a Friday. We had discussed that my husband and I would be gone from 12 -2. We decided they would arrive at 9. At 11:30 , I called as no one had shown up. They weren't coming ,so we rescheduled for Monday. Things happen. They came on time , but managed to knock banister askew and not say anything. New people came on Wed to put floor in. That' s when we noticed the banister. Oh, they were late and I had to call to make sure they were coming. They fixed the problem. When they were leaving , I asked about cleaning up stairs where carpet had been pulled up. Didn't know about that. Called. New person would have to do that. I waited a week. No call. So called. She would ask owner and get back to me next day. 10 days later, she called, and we set up an appt for the following Friday. No one showed. I called. I have never been angry or upset with anyone. Got machine. Said wow. How disappointing. Trying really hard to make me not use you again. No one called. I actually wrote the owner letter. Saying pretty much what this review says. This store has a huge number of flooring choices. i doubt that I got a fantastic 'deal' on carpeting but I did get what I paid for. Service. My carpet came in in days, not the weeks suggested by 2 big box stores. The installation was smooth, with attention to detail. read more
