Spero Spera is still my go-to place for whenever I'm looking to hide out and get business done! Also a great place to eat at after a late-night workout. Mama and Papa recognize me each time I walk in, and always offer me free tea or coffee with my order. (I honestly think they offer everyone free tea or coffee but it still makes me feel special. Leave me alone!) Since my last review, I've made a change to my order and now order the salad with my steak sandwich, as opposed to ordering Lays potato chips. The salad is God-sent! It's a luscious mix of greens paired with boiled carrots and ginger, toasted almonds, and a ginger-y vinaigrette. Very refreshing, and doesn't make you feel guilty after eating it. Have always wanted to come here and since my dentist is just across the street I walked over. First, parking is limited. You're better off finding street parking. But, honestly, at midday on a weekday, there were still many parallel parking spots available on King Street. Aside from timing yourself on the meter (because parking enforcement is done regularly in this area) and having spare change handy, it is hardly an inconvenience. Just walk thru the Interstate Building (with Easy Music Center) and you're there. Second, ambiance. I fell in love with the pictures I saw on Yelp and was not dissappointed. It is beautifully kept and decorated. Very clean, wood decor. A/C kept at a comfy temperature, peaceful music playing at a low volume, area kept immaculately clean . . . it has a home library feel, like if you were rich enough to have a study, lol. I loved it. It is quiet there and offers free wifi (with purchase, of course), so perfect for studying. But loud or large groups (or ones with children) may want to go elsewhere because it may get uncomfotable for patrons or yourselves and it is a small place. Also, the people who run the place were not unfriendly. They were just quick and efficient. If you're the type who wants someone to be interested in your life story, however, you'll be disappointed here. They do enough to take your order and get you comfortable. Plus, I'm not sure if they are comfortable with heavy conversations in English, as opposed to their native tongue of Korean (not, mind you, that I see that as a negative thing). Third, food. I ordered the garlic steak sandwhich. Each sandwhich gets a choice of either chips or salad. I opted for the salad. It took about 10 mins ( I was not focus on time. I mean, it was steak!) and the dish was delivered to my table. Presentation was superb! Taste was deliciously surprising. I wasn't expecting bad; I was just surprised at how tasty it was, especially since I randomly chose the dish knowing nothing of their menu beforehand. I love this place! If The Tea Farm, Glazers Coffee and YogurStory had a baby this place would be it. I haven't been eating a lot lately and since I was craving sandwiches I looked to Yelp to help me on my way. This place is located right before Krazy Karaoke on Young st. small parking lot but the owners/workers of Spero Spera keep a lookout for your car and will move it in case someone needs to double park. The decor is very cozy, there's a loft area which holds about 25 people. The service is very good. I went at 5:30pm on a Saturday and found it not busy at all. I ordered the Advocado Sandwich with chips (Funyuns). I got a passion tea (hot) for 50 cents. If you dine in you can get free coffee :) The sandwich is packed with veggies and is very good! Lots of texture, the bread is toasted just right and there's that satisfying crunch as you bite into it. Little bits of bacon crumbled in my mouth as I happily devoured a quarter of the sandwich. The Funyuns complimented the sandwich, I haven't really been feeling like eating salad lately but when I go back I'll try it out as it is organic and comes with baked carrots and ginger. They have free wifi and this place would be great to study or have a small get together. Before I left I bought a slice of cheesecake, my total bill for my meal came out to about $13, tipped a few dollars because I was feeling so happy that I came across this gem. Soooo happy I found this spot. There is a dearth of great quiet coffee shops in the town area where you can sit, have a great cup of coffee, plug in and work. I found this place after Googling "Wifi, coffee shop, work" and I am so glad I did. The couple who owns this place has this adorable sign outside that says, "If you want this place to stay long, please buy at least 1 item per person." So I bought this amazing iced Lychee tea that was $3?!? I gave them a monstrous tip because I'd have to drive all the way home to plug in a work and it would take too much time. You can tell they put a lot of love into this place with cute handmade signs, paintings, and other items throughout. I sat upstairs and plugged into very strong wifi and worked in bliss. There is quiet country music playing in the background! It is really a nice change from Jawaiian or Hawaiian music, which I love, but sometimes you just like a little bit of a change. I LOVE sandwiches. I could eat a sandwich every day for the rest of my life if I had to. That's why I'm always searching for places that serve up a good one. I've been reading about Spero Spera for a couple of weeks now and I've been Yelp-stalking their page, constantly looking at their pictures and reviews. But, it's hard to get the husband to try new places, so I haven't been able to try this place out. But today things worked out in my favor!! We were taking his grandma out to lunch and he really wanted to go to Nordstrom Café for a sandwich, but I knew that if we went there would be a long line. So, I convinced him to go off the beaten path and try out Spero Spera. When we walked in I thought it was a really quaint place. There are four tables downstairs and there's a loft-style upstairs with a couple of tables. I ordered the avocado sandwich, he ordered the steak sandwich, and the grandma ordered the tomato sandwich. The grandma and I also both got a passion fruit iced tea and the hubby just got a plain water. If you like veggies then the tomato and avocado sandwich are great choices! They are both jam packed with veggies, but amazingly the sandwiches come with ham and bacon. I really liked my sandwich. The only thing I think I'd do without is the house sauce that they put on the sandwich. It reminds me of thousand island dressing, which I'm not a fan of. Other than that the sandwich was wonderful. The hubby's steak sandwich was interesting. It was a hot sandwich with mushrooms and cheese, which I liked, but when I tried the sandwich it had an overwhelming taste of an herb... So, after a couple of failed attempts, I finally made it to Spero Spera. I had the opportunity to meet some friends for a quick lunch yesterday so I immediately suggested Spero Spera. It had a very cozy, inviting feel to the place. The staff was very friendly and accommodating! The menu is pretty small. Everything was reasonably priced! And the food was YUMMY! I ordered the Potato Salami sandwich and it was delish! It comes on a french roll and, to my surprise, it was warm! I would definitely go back more often if it wasn't for the parking. The only downside to this place. The parking is HORRIBLE!!! My plan for the day was to meet with a friend. We were looking for a place with Wi-fi and pretty cheap. She suggested this place after having gone to it before. Typically, I never expect places that are hidden away to be anything special; there's a reason why they're hidden. Upon first glance I thought this place wouldn't be anything impressive with very simple signage indicating the restaurant, not to mention the area it was in wasn't impressive either. However, it was literally what was on the inside that counted. What caught me first was the dining area. It was small neat, decorated very nicely and looked very cozy. Even the menu was written so neatly that I questioned if it was actually printed. The kitchen, upon looking through the counter looked very neat as well and it reflected in the making of the food. We sat ourselves upstairs, which had more tables and chairs and was just as nice. By situating ourselves against the wall, closest to the stairs, we had access to a couple of outlets and were given the pass code for free wi-fi which was given to us by the lady who took our order. The Mixed Tomato sandwich that I ordered was like a work of art! My friend and I talked about how they were able to put so much between two slices of bread and were able to make such a beautiful sandwich. You'd think that with only a thin layer of meat consisting of ham and bacon (in which the latter was cooked to a perfect crisp), you'd be pining for more meat, but the "carrot curls", and other veggies made this so filling and delicious! To go with my meal I ordered chips on the side (Funyuns) and a lemonade drink. The drink itself was nice and cool, but too sour for my tastes. Luckily they had some water downstairs (soaking with orange and lemon slices) that we could help ourselves to. As my friend and I discussed our plans, the local music playing in the background created a soothing atmosphere. As a result it made my mind and body a little bit more sleepy than I would have wanted. To perk me up I got an iced coffee, flavored with hazelnut creamer. The parking situation is kinda awkward- though there's a lot right in front in this cafe- it shares the lot with neighboring shops like a barber, etc. and it's pretty packed, not to mention several spots are coned off ....also! This place looks kinda questionable on the outside! As do the neighboring businesses, like not clean or maintained etc... Yet you walk in and the mood fully changes! It's perfectly clean, super high ceilings, wood floor, adorably cheesy quotes painted on the walls, succulents, classical music. So darling, for reals !! I got the avocado mix sammich- like everyone else, clearly :) it came with a salad and potato wedges- : to refuse to do something that you promised or agreed to do maybe I was starving or idk what but I ate the boiled ? Potatoes as I drove home with my to-go meal, and it was just so flavorful- as a potato! I don't think there was any seasoning! Just simply delicious potato. Lol. Anyhow, the sandwich- was huge. Like filled to the max. I've paid 12$ for a sandwich in town that was weak and sad- however spero speras 10$ sandwich is FAT!whats more ?? And you get two small boiled potato pieces as well, which is rather strange but enjoyable (I'm Swedish, so boiled potatoes hold a special place in my heart). My boyfriend got the garlic steak sandwich and it was like a garlic explosion. I had only one bite to try it and could taste the garlic for the rest of the evening... I could only eat half of my sandwich since it was so dense-- lots of avo, pickles, a thin slice of ham, egg, cole slaw... so I saved the other half for lunch the next day. Hubs found this little gem on Yelp while we were watching the Awards Ceremony of the First Lego League State Championships. That took a loooong time. By the time it ended, we were starving. The floor and furniture felt warm and inviting. The owners were friendly and helpful. Although we were eating out, the owner gave me a free cup of coffee. She said it was my first visit so she wanted me to try it. She also gave us an azuki mochi she baked free because we asked about it but were worried we wouldn't like it. And the food... We ordered four sandwiches since there were four of us. We had the garlic steak, salami potato, mixed avocado, and mixed tomato to go. The family favorite turned out to be the garlic steak, which was on a baguette and cut into three pieces. We would order at least 2 next time. The salami potato was also tasty, according to the hubs and The Little Foodie. I didn't get a bite of that one. I focused my attention on the mixed avocado, which was bursting with avocado, sweet veggies, and bacon. (With sandwiches, you get either chips or salad. Choose the salad. The chips are funyuns.) By the time were were done with those three, we didn't have room for the tomato, which I was truly looking forward to. Grrrr. I put that in the fridge. I'm crossing my fingers that it'll keep nicely. I needed a quick bite to eat before heading to the airport. Sandwich was the meal of choice, so it was either Subway or... Thanks to Yelp, I found this place close by. It is located in the same strip mall area where I used to take Tae Kwon Do lessons twenty five years ago :) Parking was plentiful since it was before 5 p.m. I knew what I was going to get: the garlic veggie sandwich; my mom got the salami sandwich. I threw in the mochi bar (which looks like a brownie) for dessert. It took a little while to get the sandwiches, and my mom asked who was making it since the two people behind the counter were just talking. It turns out the food was being heated to melt the cheese...a DEFINITE plus. The French baguette was fresh, and the sandwiches were delicious (I ate half of my mom's too). instead of pickles, they had slices of baked potatoes (nice touch). The only downside was that the mochi dessert was out all day and got hard and stale. I will pass on the dessert next time, or else get ice cream. The decor was nice and would be a cool place to hang out with friends. The shopping area outside is showing its age, but the restaurant makes a good escape from the Young St. area. Both were good. - The garlic steak was a bit bland, and the steak was cook well done, so it was a bit chewy But the bread was crispy outside and the cheese gooey. so it had a good mouthfeel. I really love this little mom and pop cafe! I went to Spero Spera few weeks ago to celebrate a friend's birthday. Finding the place wasn't too difficult--Google Map it, visualize where Krazy Karaoke is you shouldn't be too lost. The parking lot is shared with a few other businesses and I can imagine that finding parking could be difficult during peak business hours. Carpooling might be a good option. The outside of the cafe is unassuming and probably not as inviting as it could be because you can't see through the window out front. Inside, though, it's really cute, neat and clean. There are tasteful paintings on the walls and a few houseplants. I wouldn't describe the vibe as "hipster," rather, I would say it's very "Korean" (which I say from the POV of someone who has been to South Korea recently). There's downstairs and upstairs seating and WiFi for kids who need a place to study. All three of us ordered the "Avocado Lovers" sandwich, which came with organic baby greens and slices of boiled potato with a slight ginger flavor. The sandwich was divine--light and fresh but also filling and flavorful. It was the perfect sandwich for people who want to eat something healthy but are tired of salads. The portion was very generous, and the price point was reasonable for lunch. I tried the green tea latte with soy milk and totally fell in love with green tea lattes as a result. One of my friends had the Ajumma's Blended Latte, which I totally approved of. I love Spero Spera! I think I come here at least once a week since I work nearby My go-to is the garlic steak sandwich, but I also like the mixed avocado and the mixed tomato sandwiches as well. I always get it with the chips rather than salad (Lay's BBQ is what they give you), and the potato wedges they put in the takeout box are perfectly cooked and pair well with the sandwich. Their lemon soda is also really delicious! The couple who works there (I'm guessing they're the owners) are very courteous and usually include a small Korean yogurt drink with your order. You are only permitted to stay here for two hours. Although we intended to buy more coffee at the two hour mark and continue studying, the owner came upstairs after 2 hours to tell us that we had to get out, and then again five minutes later to tell us again, both times by just saying "two hours" and pointing to a sign. Consistently excellent food. Great service. Limited seating at peak times. Free wifi (ask the cashier for the password). The sandwiches here are excellent, unique, and affordable (they are between $7-8 and come with a cup of coffee and either salad or chips). They are also very large and filling. It's certainly a full meal. I've had both the mixed avocado and the mixed tomato sandwiches (see the photo of the menu for descriptions). The coffee is good. You can upgrade the hot coffee that comes with the sandwich to iced coffee for 50 cents extra--worth it if you don't want to hot coffee on a warm Honolulu day. Parking is very limited (I ride my bike, so this is not an issue), but there is nearby street parking. The atmosphere is nice--good for studying. Tables are always clean. The place is run by a family and they clearly take pride in their business. I'm not sure how long it has been around, but I hope it's here for a long time to come. read more

This place is a diamond in the rough. From the outside you would never expect it to feel so clean and welcoming. Great spot to grab some coffee/food and get a little work done. The mixed avocado sandwich is the jam. Comes with a salad and some potatoes that are surprisingly tasty. Great presentation and the food tastes great. This is definitely a mom and pop type place, which I really like. They are always super friendly and keep the place super clean. A nice hidden little gem down in the mess of King St. Clean, quiet, reasonably priced. Spacious enough so that you don't feel crowded. Great for studying. Only had some coffee but the food looked pretty good! Will certainly be returning. ^^ read more

Good simple sandwich joint in a small Korean plaza. Yum garlic steak sandwich, mixed avocado sandwich, and a yum coffee and ice cream Affogato. Refreshing after heavy Hawaiian food. Even the acai bowl is on $6.69. read more
