Spencer Gifts is one of those mall staples--right up there with Hot Topic--where if you're already at the mall, you almost have to stop in, even if it's just to see what's new. They've always had a mix of novelty items, pop-culture merch, gag gifts, graphic tees, posters, and the more adult-oriented products they're known for. It's that blend of funny, edgy, and nostalgic that keeps people browsing longer than they planned. Even if I don't walk out with anything every time, I usually find at least one thing that makes me laugh or brings back memories. It's a good spot for last-minute gifts or something random you won't find at a big box store. The store layout is familiar, the vibe is unapologetically Spencer's, and it fills its lane well. This Spencer's location is at Cumberland Mall, near the mall entrance facing nearby Costco. There is a huge and free parking lot, and even a parking garage nearby, and I was able to get a parking space close to the mall entrance. I haven't been in a Spencer's in over 20 years, and you know what? It hadn't changed all that much. T-shirts that I'd love to buy and wear but just didn't have the guts to do are still on display and for sale. You know, the kind of t-shirts that other people wear that have statements on them that are crass, insulting, demeaning, vulgar bawdy and have double entendre, but all in a humorous way? I took my time reading all of the t-shirt displays on the wall while laughing because many of them were just downright hilarious! I kept on walking, reading and laughing all the way along the wall, ending up in the back section of the store. During those olden days when I DID visit Spencer's, I had never walked all the way to the back of a Spencer's store, so I was mildly surprised when I noticed a wall of sex toys, fetish items, lingerie, Pride clothing, barely there underwear, and other items "for your personal enjoyment (or discomfort)." Slightly distracted by all this unexpected merchandise, I forgot what I came here to shop for ... What WAS I looking for? Oh yeah ... a pair of magnetic earrings. I knew Spencer's sells magnetic earrings because I saw them earlier in the morning while shopping online. I had to ask a helpful employee where they were, and she led me to a locked display case and showed me a collection of magnetic earrings. I found a pair, but had to ask another employee for assistance. That employee gave me the easy open, easy close package, but he prevented me from opening up the package. I bought it anyway. While walking through the store, this time on my way out, I saw "real" earrings, toys (real toys, not the sex kind), gag gifts (no, not ones to put in your mouth!), and other things. This is a clean, well organized store. I wouldn't recommend bringing younger kids who can read into this store, unless you want to answer their questions about what some of the words on the shirts mean. read more

OMG!!! What a blast from the past! I was absolutely thrilled to find out that there is a Spencer's store located in Cumberland Mall! I honestly haven't been to a Spencer's since I was a child, and so it truly felt like I had just walked through a time warp! Spencer's is a novelty store with all kinds of gags, gifts, and other great toys that used to keep me preoccupied for hours when I was a kid! The parent company, Spencers and Spirit Holdings Inc, also owns the Spirit Halloween stores that pop up each year. On this surprise visit, all of the 'good stuff' from my childhood was still here. First off, they had a section for gags. The section seemed a lot smaller than I remember, but then again, I was much younger back then! It may have just seemed a lot larger at the time! There were several sections that had tons of novelty t-shirts. They are displayed as designs on the wall, with the actual shirts stocked underneath. Some of them were absolutely hilarious. And even after all these years, they still had a huge array of lava lamps displayed on the wall. There was also a massive wall containing novelty mugs and glasses with every design imaginable. Novelties and gag gifts abound in this wonderful place. And last, but certainly not least, there was still an adult section with many of the items that you would find at an adult shop. It had everything from gag adult gifts to more hardcore adult toys. I definitely don't remember it being this extensive when I was a child!! If you're looking for timeless novelty gifts and gags, Spencer's has your back! They also have a great inventory online as well. To start this off, i'm 18. I was in the back of the store minding my business looking at SHIRTS and a worker comes up to my boyfriend and me saying " if you're going to be back here you better be looking at shirts, you cant be back here looking at sex toys. These shirts are 2xl anyways and you aren't 2xl so you shouldn't be back here anyways." First off i'm an adult and I can buy a sex toy if I please and there's nothing wrong with buying a 2xl shirt even if i'm not a 2xl shirt. The worker was very rude and entitled, if you don't look like an adult or aren't 2xl don't even try to buy something from the back of the store because that worker is very unprofessional, she didn't even ask to see out IDS or anything, just told us to get out. read more

The man with a beard who rung up my stuff at the register asked me if i would like to donate to a cause, i said no. he then told me "okay i'll round it up then" i said no. he went ahead and did it anyways. and then he proceeded to accuse me of leaving trash in the store, even though i had not done it. im definitely not going back and i highly recommend no one else does. read more

Since I was a teenager, and I'm close to 50 now, I'm still shy about going to Spencer's. Its a naughty store, they have all sort of knickknacks that are sexually or marijuana based. They have shot glasses for any occasion. Getting married, this is a good place to get bachelorette items also. Funny thing is, they have cute onsies for babies, and some of them are even expletive. No issues with the staff, but then I don't like being followed all over a store. I was in once when they caught a guy trying to switch out something he was buying in the box with a similar item that was at a reduced cost. They called him out on it before he could even take it to the register, and once he admitted it they allowed him to leave the store. I'll give them an extra star for not being an a-hole, when they surely could have been. If for nothing else, go in and look at all the political theme stuff they have. Sick of Hillary and Trump, or Obama?? well they have rolls of toilet tissue..and we all know what to do with that. Nice selection of Bob Marely paraphernalia and t shirts too. read more

THE NAUGHTY SHOP This is not the store to visit because you need a cell phone cover or cute earrings. This is where you go because you are bored and need to shake things up a bit. " Don't get it twisted" !!. This store reminds me of Hot Topic except it has the adult themed items. Please know that this is not a store for children as they have adult bedroom toys and cheeky items that are openly displayed. This store is clearly for adults but this is not apparent until after you enter the store. The store stocks tees, jewelry, gift items, bedroom toys and adult games. If you like walking on the naughty side, you have just found your spot! To the "southern peach" who brought her young daughter into the store today: it's not that type of toy store! read more

Contrary to Laura's review, or should I say hurt feelings report, I always have a good time going into Spencer's. The staff is generally always helpful, and they do always ask me if there's anything that I need. They helped replace a product I bought, when I broke it, no hassle. They are always cool people to hang out and talk to. So I wouldn't bother listening to Laura's review people. Sounds like someone is just too stuck up for their own good. read more

One of the biggest Spencer stores in the area. Very organized! Most Spencer stores are claustrophobic but there was plenty of room to move around. The mall itself has questionable individuals hanging around. The store staff was friendly and helpful. Although the store was busy, there was no wait time at the register. Once I stepped in line another associate jumped in to help. I will travel past other spencers to go to this one! read more
