Essentially, cutting the dress would cause all the beads to unravel. We talked through any options - we had only 1. Either create darts and "rouche" the dress on the sides (which would change the look entirely) or just leave it long and deal with it. The dress was lined, so I asked her to take up the liner. It was $30, which I suppose is good for her time, but in retrospect I probably could have done it myself for free at the library. The liner isn't visible, so it didn't need to be professionally done. We left it long. I dealt with it.

I had the MOST BEAUTIFUL dress on my wedding day thanks to Laura. She is phenomenal and is truly an…read moreexpert with wedding dresses. My dress came strapless and was many sizes too big. She got the corset top to fit me like a glove - as if it were made for me. I wanted to add removable off the shoulder straps that would fasten with small buttons. She ended up sewing one on and had me come in because she didn't like how it was making the dress look, it was causing a bulge. So she recommended to just sew the sleeves on seamlessly and then if I want to take them off the reception, just cut them (because it's not like I'm going to wear the dress again lol!). I'm so glad I went with her recommendation. I ended up loving the sleeves so much I didn't even feel the need to cut them off for the dancing. My dress was tailored perfectly to my height with heels. My dress was pretty detailed. Had many layers to the skirt including a horsehair layer. The corset had layered lace as well. After picking it up from Laura, it looked better than it did when I bought it! Additionally, there were some buttons in the back of the corset that were loose and she re-enforced those. Even the bustle was perfect. She does really hardy sturdy work but still maintained the delicate nature of the dress. In paying for the alterations we paid for half at our first appointment and the second half at the second appointment. Laura broke down all that we were paying which was really nice. I am so impressed with her work and will continue to return to her for all of my alterations.

I was in search of alterations for some time and finally landed on Lin's Alterations. It was close…read moreto my house and primary shopping in Avon and had wonderful reviews. Upon visiting and meeting the owners, Fred and Renee, I knew it would be a great fit for my alteration needs. Not only am I petite and had a variety of pants, coats, etc. that needed hemmed or modified to be 'ready to wear', but I began a new position and needed formal business attire altered to be office-ready. Renee does a consult for every piece in the mirror with clients, verifies the type of shoes to be worn, asks clarifying questions, and then has the items done within a week or so (perhaps sooner, but so far I haven't needed anything in a rush.) In terms of value, I also believe the pricing to be very affordable and quality. PRO-TIP: be sure to bring either the exact shoes you'll be wearing with pants you want hemmed or similar styles so the length will be accurate. Note: They're closed Sundays & Mondays & open until 4PM so plan accordingly.
