Haraz Coffee House - almond pastry

My husband and I split a the salted caramel iced latte and our friends each ordered a Turkish coffee. The drinks were good, the pastries looked really good as well, and we received great service. They brought our drinks out to us and our cashier was helpful with any questions we had. We will be back again to try out more of their delicious drinks!

I know that traditional Yemeni coffee shops don't usually make tea lattes, but I thought I would ask anyway, and the answer was no. I also wondered whether asking was culturally insensitive, given that tea lattes aren't a Yemeni thing. I'll let you decide. I do enjoy Adeni teas, and I ordered the saffron version with a little sugar. It was excellent. The flavors were rich and just sweet enough. They serve these teas very hot, so I've learned to let them cool a bit before drinking so I don't scald my lips. I would have liked to try the honeycomb bread (khalat al Nahal), but they were out, which was disappointing. I did order the almond Danish instead, and that was excellent. Service: The service was friendly and efficient. The woman who took my order didn't seem bothered by my interest in a tea latte, and when I asked about the honeycomb bread, she gave a sincere apology. My one complaint is that they display a sample piece in the counter, which gives the impression that it's available. If it's not actually offered, it would probably be better to remove the sample. Atmosphere: The interior space is amazing. They've taken about half of the Melrose restaurant and converted it into the Haraz Coffee House. You enter through the same door and then head right for the restaurant seating or left for the coffee shop. A see-through wooden partition allows you to see between the two spaces. The interior design is beautiful and relaxing. There were only a few small groups there during my visit, and it was very quiet. I actually think creating a separate coffee shop within a restaurant is a great idea. I would definitely come back.

So, of course, we had to try a bunch of different items. All the dips, the topped hummus, baba ghanoush, and skillet tomatoes (forgot the name) were amazing! The hummus alone was so silky and smooth. The bread is super soft and fluffy; we had the flatbread with different toppings. Very good! My favorite was the za'atar one. We had something I've never had before called Stromboli (stuffed roll) with Akkawi white cheese, and it was my favorite. So, so good! And we can't forget the falafel, with the hummus and the fluffy bread, just goes together perfectly. Staff were all super informative and friendly. They have the cutest Budgerigar birds, a blue and a green one, so cute!

The service was wonderful and the staff made the experience even better. Perfect for breakfast or lunch, everything is made fresh on the spot and you can really taste the difference. We ordered the spinach pie, potato pie, Akkawi cheese pie, hotdog pastry, and the egg manqousha. Every single item was delicious. We also had two Lotus cheesecakes for dessert and they were amazing. If you want authentic manaqeesh and a welcoming atmosphere, this is the place to be. Highly recommended!

Get ready for the best service for breakfast. Oak Creek diner is really smart to have a designated server for drinks. Keeping everybody's coffee filled is a full-time job and keeps everybody happy and frees up the servers to focus on the food. The steak was cooked to my request, it was flavorful, I wanted the fillet, but it was not available. There is some question as to whether it is no longer offered ever or just out temporarily the fillet on the menu was $32 if I remember correctly. Coffee was good, everything was delicious. Service was excellent and I'm going to tell you that they have some very hard-working staff members there the kind that every owner wishes they could acquire. Really a great job. I had Krysty and Destiny as my servers and I don't know the coffee man's name, but he was by my table many times keeping my coffee full and hot.

The ambiance is that of a rural, friendly, bustling diner with regulars at the bar and families at every table. I got a fairly simply veggie skillet and coffee, both were exactly what you expect and want. What surprised me was the quality of the veggies compared to what I've had at other diners. Prices were excellent and fair, staff were friendly and kind, and food was solid. Highly recommend stopping by if your in the area and looking for a solid start to the day!
