I've been coming to Spectacle Shoppe since I moved to Minneapolis for my optical needs! Parking can be a bit tricky, but there is street parking on most of the blocks near the shop. The interior is clean, warm, and inviting! They have water, tea, cookies, and other treats to enjoy while you wait for your appointment or shop around for new frames. The staff have always been tremendously friendly and helpful. They have quite a large frame selection from well-known and local designers. You're sure to find a diamond in the rough at this spot! Dr. Baars is a wonderful doctor. He is friendly, explains everything, and makes sure you get what you need. It's also never too difficult to get an appointment, which is appreciated. My first review of 2023 and it's a 5 star! The other morning I stepped on my glasses and the sound of them crunching under my weight will haunt me. I wanted to try and have them repaired and found this location via Google. I called and made an appt for same day over my lunch. I had no issues parking, and was helped immediately. He told me the price (extremely fair) and I waited. I had my glasses good as new within 15 mins! I am so happy and relieved to have gone here. read more

The spectacle shop was a great experience from start to finish. I made an appointment for an eye exam, arrived a few minutes early and was assisted by a sales associate to help me look at frames. At my appointment time I went right in to see the optician. He was super friendly and very professional. It was fun to see pictures of my eyeball. Once I was done I picked out frames (they have soooo many options!) and tried them on with the help of Max, who was super helpful and very warm. I felt very taken care of and not rushed at all. I wasn't going to say anything but the overall vibe I got from this place was overwhelming. I had came with the intent to just look around but the lady working there kept coming up to me to "help" me even though I told her multiple times that I was just looking around but she kept pressuring me and even looked at me (and a friend) up and down.... She was an older (white) lady, looked about 50-60 and she kept following us around... this made us feel uncomfortable as POC because workers usually do that when they think we're stealing... it almost felt as if she was looking down on us... will definitely not be returning here read more

God awful expensive. $810 just for lenses. No frames. Brought my own from before. progressive bifocal, Auto darkening or whatever it's called and all the bells and whistles, anti glare, scratch resistant etc but really. Same lenses at Costco are about $150. Any other store would be half that or less Total ripoff. read more

I recently had a very frustrating experience with this company. I felt pressured to make a decision same day that I went in to try a few pairs. After I made the purchase I had buyer's remorse and called to ask if I could look at more frames. Only then did I learn that there was a no return policy. It is not on their website, it was not relayed to me at any time before or during the transaction. I understand that I cannot return lenses, but I also was not allowed to return the frames. They were kind enough to offer store credit - not in $ but in one pair of glasses, ignoring any price difference. On top of that they wanted to charge me an extra $25 to recut my lenses into the exchanged pair. I understand now that I am not in their target market; as a first-time buyer I should have done much more research. Be aware of the no-return policy. read more

My lenses were initially made incorrectly. Sent back to lab, reprocessed. Only to made incorrectly again but not caught by the optician so I was given and struggled with for a month. I went to a different location, same company, to hopefully have a second opinion and a follow up refraction to problem solve. The optician at that location immediately noticed that the right lens was indeed incorrect. Waited another month, emailed two employees at the second location on the status and requesting them to double check my computer glasses as they were also not conforming to my sight. No response. The first location calls and informs my right lens is in. Have zero faith in that location at this point. Lost faith in the second location also. Took more time out of my schedule to get to the first location to get the "corrected" lens placed in my glasses. Been wearing for a few weeks, can't see. Eyes don't work together or focus together. Still haven't heard from second location. read more

The optometrist was superb. He did not rush. Explaining how there can be difficulties adjusting to the new progressive lenses.He went on to explain that if you have to move the whole eyeglass frame left or right to get the correct vision....the prescription is wrong and that to come back and re-do it. He was a true wealth of information and was patient with my boyfriend. Other places wanted $65 more. If you get you lenses and prescription done at the same place they can stand behind the product. That way there is no question who is at fault if the new glasses or prescription don't work. We had been to Costco. They prescription was no good. They did not want to re-do the prescription to make new lenses. We were not looking for a deal. We were looking for professional help from experts who stand behind their work. Will check in again after he has worn them awhile. Everything was top notch here. He is confident he got what he came for. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I have been to many different optical stores but this one is by far the best. I went in and the staff were very knowledgeable and they helped me find exactly what I was looking for. I got the glasses and they looked great but I had never had wire glasses and the nose part really bothered me. Today I went back and I was afraid to ask for a different pair but they were very nice and I found a pair that were plastic and was able to exchange the wire ones for the plastic Their selection is amazing and it was easy to find what I was looking for and I'm very picky. They found me at least 5-10 frames that I loved. I highly recommend that you go to the Spectical Shoppe. read more

So I live in Cave Creek Arizona and get back to the Twin Cities at least once a year. I plan an eye exam while I am there and would only see the Doc at the Spectacle Shoppe in New Brighton. He does a great job and is very easy to understand. After the exam when it comes to choosing frames there is no place better. BTW I saw el presidente David before and after the time I was there and he asked how things went. A very cool guy to deal with. Here is the only place to go if you want quality. Worst eyeglass shopping experience i have ever had, bar none. The lady was incredibly snobby and pretty much wanted me out of there from the time i came in. Covid-19 or not, this was extremely uncomfortable to look for glasses. I would never go back. I am going to try the St. Paul store though, 'cause they have a great selection. read more

Great customer service! All I needed was a pair of nose pads for my (very old) Kame ManNen frames, something I had been trying to find for a long time. I had been using cheapo nose pads purchased online, but they weren't quite right. These are cool glasses, meticulous in detail, and the detail and coolness extend right down to the nose pads, which have a titanium component featuring the Kame ManNen turtle symbol. So finding OEM replacements was kind of a big deal. With the help of several staff members at two Spectacle Shoppe locations, as well as the Kame ManNen distributor, they found the correct, original nose pads for my frames and had them waiting for me at the Uptown shop near my home. I'm sure they lost money on this transaction, in terms of the work hours of several people, but they earned a future customer. Well done. And thank you! read more

The Spectacle Shop has gone above and beyond for me. I am so Appreciative of them and their help. I bought some really cool frames at the State Fair (check out all their unusual frames in the Grandstand!) When I went in to get an updated prescription from them, they discovered that I had some serious issues with my eye that I had just gotten used to over time. They recommended that I see a specialist. Since that time I have had had 2 cornea transplants. If I had let the condition continue I would not have had the great results that I have had. I kept them in the loop during this year and half period. Now I'm ready for new glasses but no longer need reading glasses which are the frames I purchased at the State Fair. They said no problem! They said come in, pick new frames and they will give me credit for the 2 sets I already purchased! What better custom service can you ask for!! 5 stars for sure! read more

This place is worth the splurge if you can afford it. They take EyeMed insurance to cover some of the cost but I'm willing to spend a bit more for the excellent customer service, personalized attention, and quality product. The employees are available to give as much advice or as much autonomy as you want while picking a pair of glasses. The frame selection is beautiful with ample range of style and material. Because I wear glasses 80% of the time, I want something that compliments my features and is comfortable (I have a nickel allergy and have picked titanium and plastic options in the past with support from the staff who have expertise). People often stop me with positive comments about my current glasses, which is cool because I feel they are an extension of my style. I also have my exams done and buy contacts there as they give you samples of some suggested brands so you can try them. All and all, the staff go above and beyond to remember details about customers, solve problems (replaced the scratched lenses in my frames) and attend to you (offering goodies such as drinks and even roses). read more

I bought a groupon for SS because I lost my glasses (have you ever tried to search for glasses without your glasses?). I walked in on a Saturday around 3:15 and was welcomed warmly. I let the lady (I wish I had gotten her name because she was so nice!) know I was simply looking for new glasses. She asked if I wanted some help picking them out, I said absolutely. She asked what styles I was looking for (vintage, neutral, classic, etc). I told her I was looking for whatever the groupon covered and what I would look best in. She scurried off and came back with a few pairs and I appreciate she didn't make me feel bad when I didn't care for what she picked out. Ultimately she found "the one" and I was so happy! My old glasses were boring and black, I never on my own would have picked out green frames! I'll definitely be back if I need glasses but will be better prepared for the cost. The groupon was $40 for $250 worth of frames. The frames I picked were $289 but I'm not suer if they inflate the lens costs to make up for the cost but at the end of the sale I paid about $330. I just hadn't expected the lenses to be that expensive. Anyway, my bad-I'll know for next time! read more

This is my 4th experience with the Spectacle Shoppe and it was excellent as usual. They have beautiful, well crafted lenses, thorough exams and the staff are fantastic. I went in for an exam yesterday am and they had my lenses ready that afternoon. Last Christmas I lost an oddly shaped screw and I popped in to see if they could help. The different locations carry a unique set of frames, and of course personalities of staff, but the emphasis everywhere seems to focus on quality. I didn't start going to the Spectacle Shoppe until the Uptown location opened. SO much fun! I love trying on some of their funky glasses, knowing I wouldn't buy them but still having a great time playing. IMO Spectacle Shoppe does a great job of help/no help when it comes to looking at frames: they offer exactly as much help as you want and they're good at letting you know that immediately on entering the store. The store is stocked with frames you won't easily find elsewhere. They even stock vintage frames. I've brought friends with me who ended up buying glasses at the Spectacle Shoppe (as well as succumbed to my pressure to try on funky glasses too!). Recently I snapped the bow off my favorite pair of glasses, unfortunately in front of the hinge. Waah! I called, the frames are no longer available. Huge bummer! Joe to the rescue: he suggested I bring the glasses in anyway and he'd do his best. He certainly did! Less than 24 hours after I dropped them off, Joe called to let me know he'd drilled a couple holes and repaired my frames. They were even cleaned up to look like new! Another store might try to sell me new glasses instead of take the time to fix the current ones. Customer service excellente! read more

My experience at the Spectacle Shoppe was phenomenal. I went in for an eye exam, a contact lens fitting, and new glasses. The entire time the staff was attentive, friendly and very patient. They were very respectful of my budget and did not pressure me to buy anything that I did not ask for. The price I was quoted was the price I paid, and best of all my glasses were ready the same day!! I was also given a trial pair of contacts, contact solution, eye glass cleaner, and best of all, a rose on my departure. I was blown away by the entire experience. Oh and the music was great too. I have purchased several pair of glasses over the years from Joe and Megan at the Hennepin Ave location of Spectacle Shoppe because I really appreciate their excellent customer service and they also stock a HUGE selection. The first time I went there, I was a little surprised at the cost so I went to a different store and found that although their frames and lenses were only slightly less expensive ($25), it would take 8-10 days to get my glasses. Plus, I had to wait a long time every time I just wanted to ask a question, so I went back to Spectacle Shoppe. I had my dog in my car - they encouraged me to bring her into the store, which allowed me to relax and take my time selecting my frames. It was a much more enjoyable experience. My glasses were ready in just 2 business days. Well worth the small difference in cost. And whenever I need to drop in for a quick adjustment to my frames, they greet me by name even though I don't make an appointment - that is great customer service!! And they send you out the door with a warm chocolate chip cookie. OK, full disclosure: I have also eaten a few of the cookies while selecting new frames ;-) read more

I never thought I'd be able to afford to purchase glasses at the Spectacle Shoppe, until I came across their ad for their $59 frame sale at Burnsville Mall. I went there in November and chose two sets of frames (they had so many cool frames that I had a difficult time making choices), and just went back this past weekend when they had their current sale and purchased the lenses. The prices can't be beat with sales like these. I had previously been going to the big chains, where I always got the BOGO deal, as I will never have just one pair of my current prescription glasses. To put it in perspective, I paid the same for two pairs of glasses at the SS, which is half of what I would have paid at the chain had I had to have paid for two pairs there. The staff at the SS were all wonderful. The selection, quality of glasses and the knowledge of the staff at the chains just don't compare to what I just experienced. The SS has won me over. read more

Staff here are thin on the ground; their attitude toward customers ranges from indifferent to rude. As one might expect from the $$$ rating, the prices here are outrageous. Designer frames can be had elsewhere and elsewhere is where you should look for them. read more
