Wonderful experience. After Home Depot added in all the extra costs Specialties beat Home Depot's sale price.

We have been buying refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, etc at John R Appliance for our rental properties for many years now. They are used appliances but they are all cleaned up, tested, and repaired if necessary and John R warrants them for 90 days. They also can arrange for delivery and can take away any previous appliance that is being replaced. In our experience the things we have bought have worked well and, since tenants can be hard on appliances, we don't feel the need to get new ones when used seems to be a better value. They have lower end to premium brands and the prices are in line with what you select, but not all that different. The guys there may look a little rough but they do know what they're doing and deliver good value, and they don't bite...at least so far.

I learned about this restaurant supply from a yelp elite event I attended at Nino Salvaggio's where…read moreChef Peter Loren name dropped it. I had shopped at a restaurant supply in Texas but had yet to find one in the area. Gold Star is open to the public and filled with a very diverse collection of items to purchase. If you've never checked out one of these shops, let me give you an idea of what they have. There are a lot of industrial grade items you probably would never buy for your home kitchen. But they have quality food prep supplies, baking supplies (including pastry/frosting bags/tips), storage containers, servingware, cookware, utensils, barware, bulk glassware in the back (a good brand, too!)... Odds are if it's related to cooking, they have it. If you're not sure... Just call. Some of it will be exactly like you've seen eating out, like little syrup dispensers. But some of it you've never seen before... Or you've seen something similar but higher end at your usual kitchen stores. It might not be as fancy, but these items will get the job done at a reasonable price. I used to help run a couple retail kitchen shops (like a Sur la Table but local) in my home town. Let me give you some items that I saw that I would suggest you purchase here. -A large cutting board. They have some thick boards. I have the same brand they carry and it has lasted me 15 years -Cutlery! Not every knife you own needs to be from Wustof. They carried some Victornox which are excellent knives. Again, mine have lasted 15 years. They had another brand for the larger knives... If they're what chefs want and use, I'm sure they're quality -A good, cheap 12" nonstick fry pan. This is actually a Chef Loren tip that I agree with. Fry pans by their nature are somewhat disposable. Just buy a cheap one. The pans they had were totally fine for home use -Storage containers in many sizes. These are a hard plastic with good lids. The hard plastic makes it so they don't absorb color or odors. Great for marinading/brining meat -Giant metal mixing bowls! Easy to use and clean, stores on top of your fridge -Odds and ends utensils. I bought some demitasse spoons (read: baby spoons) for desserts and to serve with coffee and tea It's worth going once just to see what you might need. Give them a shot before heading to your big box kitchen store. The people at the counter were nice! They're local and probably have something you need.

But now, I hate to say it -- but increasingly, they treat loyal customers like crap. They promise to call back with information, and NEVER do. Make appointments they don't keep, and don't call. --I get it when a business is understaffed with good techs -- but CALL and let the customer, who is waiting and counting on them, to let them know what's up. Respond. I bought my most recent primary refrigerator from them about a year ago in the $500 range. I started calling almost three weeks ago that the temp was in the 60's and I was using the freezer section as a fridge. After multiple calls and messages, they didn't show up until four days ago and said compressor was bad and it wasn't worth fixing -- but they'd take care of me. And then, they didn't get back to me about the options. When I reached them two days ago they said they'd give me another one for ~$550. --Hmm. So, despite that the one I bought should have lasted more than a year -- that's the best they can do for me for a replacement? After making me wait for over two weeks for them to even look at it. And of course, they've promised to call me back 2 x's since this last conversation --and haven't. I even told them that I want to buy a washer and dryer from them over the next month. -- Doesn't make any difference in their interest in helping me out. --I might as well start buying new sale or scratch & dent appliances instead of being treated like this.

Absolutely the way personal service should be! Fadi at Southfield location, understood my needs,…read morequestions, and got me a deal on a chest freezer - better than what I could find online - AND a better match for my needs than what I was originally going for. Even after the last sale, I had additional questions (freezer baskets) and WOW, the attention and care - without trying to upsell or anything! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Fadi is the salesman that gives salespeople a bad reputation…read more He tells you what you want to hear until the minute he closes the sale. The unit took over a month to deliver. He charged for delivery that was over two hours late from their three hour delivery window & thereafter refused to refund it after the delivery was three hours late AND the old unit/garbage was left in my lawn. He then tells you it's your problem to clean up the debris, huge boxes and old unit to dispose of AFTER he promised it was part of the delivery fee. The unit started making loud noises after a few hours and he told me it wasn't his problem anymore and call the manufacturer if I have any issues. He also promised money for the old unit that was never collected - I'm yet to see that money. He refuses to answer calls, but will send you texts that are threatening and inappropriate on your personal cell. If you're looking to spend a lot of money on a high-end appliance with the absolute worst aftercare, AbC Warehouse in Southfield is your place & make sure to ask for Fadi if you want to be ripped off.
