Our condo has some rotten trees in our backyard. Additionally we have this 1 large tree with branches that are extending very closely to our condo. We recently contracted with Specialized Rigging and Tree Care to remove a very large and decaying tree on our property. The tree was in a difficult to reach place, set back from the road in-between multiple homes. It certainly posed a risk not only to our home but our neighbors as well. The tree was inaccessible for a crane and would require a team to climb it and remove it safely. Many tree service companies would not touch this job. Jay and his team assessed the situation, had the right equipment, and expertly and professionally removed the tree without issue. They were transparent about the work that needed to be done, arrived on time, and did a wonderful job cleaning up the yard once done. All in all, they were a pleasure to deal with. This company removed a tree on my neighbors property. Because the tree bordered my property, the company needed access to my lawn, which we agreed to. During the tree removal process I kindly asked the workers to remove a log that fell onto the flower bed when I was walking to the car. After I got in my vehicle, one worker threw his hands up in distrust and waved me over. I got out of my car, and he began arguing with me that the log wasn't in the flower bed. I went over and pointed out that it was, but he continued to be rude, argumentative, and unprofessional telling a coworker that I was "Giving him shit" about the log and gave me a sarcastic apology. The incident was completely unnecessary and I recommend people look elsewhere for a more professional and respectful company. read more

Out of all of the places I contacted for estimates, this place was easily the quickest to respond and the friendliest. They did a great job, removing two trees and pruning three others. The work went quick and they cleaned up after themselves really well. As far as price, they came in almost the same as the other quotes I was given, but were much more professional. They also made sure that I was well informed about the health of my trees and what work would need to be done in the future. We had a tree in a very difficult location to bring down and remove. It could not be craned or bucketed over the house. It had to be climbed. Not only did Specialized do a spectacular job but they bailed us out when Monster Tree Service left us in the lurch the day they were supposed to come to do the work. We had a very short window within which the job had to be completed and Specialized was incredibly responsive. They came the same day I called them to do an estimate and the very next day to do the job. I watched the entire process and it was simply amazing. Outstanding job. Jay, Mike, and their crew showed up on time and were completely professional. They protected the gates from accidental scratching as they took branches through, cut the stump extremely low to the ground, and worked through the rain. Jay is a military guy with service in Afghanistan and he brought that military work ethic right to the job site. When a massive tree slammed into our home during a recent snow storm, we needed quick and expert help. The tree was tangled in our roof, our fence and our deck. We just bought a new house & one of the first things we wanted to do was remove 2 extremely large pines that were in the backyard. We had some concerns because the larger and more profuse pine was also hanging over a portion of one of our neighbor's greenhouses and we did not want to have any damage issues if it was left up nor in the process of taking it down. The only access to our backyard is a 4 ft. wide chain link fence gate from the driveway beside our house and our backyard is surrounded on all sides by neighboring yards, so we knew we could not have a bucket truck come in to do the tree removal. This was worrisome considering that both trees where a good deal taller than our house and the larger one had multiple trunks and already had one large branch that was splitting. I found Specialized Rigging & Tree Care on Angie's List and I felt reassured by the video of them on a job that is posted on their website. ( www.specializedtreecare.com ) They definitely seemed to have experience in bringing down large trees without a bucket truck in potentially close areas. So I called and set up a free estimate for the work we wanted. Originally we were thinking of having 3 trees taken down, the 2 pines in the backyard and a maple in the front. But luckily for us when Jay came out to give us the free estimate he pointed out that because the tree in the front yard was so close to the road, we ought to check to see if it is a town tree before having it removed. He gave us an estimate for having all 3 trees removed and the stumps for all of them ground. Following his advice I did check with the town and found that the front yard tree "is" a town tree and that we would have been fined if we had had it removed. I let Jay know and he gave us a revised estimate for taking down just the 2 large pines in the back. The estimate actually ended up being exactly what my husband had originally told me it would probably cost before we had spoken to anyone (because of the size and placement of the trees) with an additional 5% discount for being an Angie's list member. So I had no hesitation whatsoever in accepting what was a very fair price for the job. Jay set up a date for the job with my husband but then that date ended up conflicting first with when National Grid would be installing a gas line and then with my sister-in-law's wedding but Jay was happy to accommodate our scheduling issue. He was very nice about the rescheduling and at no time did he make us feel as if we were being troublesome, which was appreciated since I was dealing with the stress of juggling the various contractors that were doing jobs on our new home. Jay told us that the job would take approximately 3 days to complete which was perfect since we would be leaving for the wedding the day after the job was completed. Jay and his crew showed up on all 3 days exactly when he said they would be there and he and his crew were extremely polite and pleasant during the entire 3 days. They were very quick to respond to any questions that I had as they went along and Jay told me more than once to feel free to let him know if I had any concerns at any time. I was there during the entire job and I saw how hard they worked, and how well they did. They did not get even one branch in either of the neighbors' yards which is amazing considering how much overlap there was from the trees but it was obvious during the entire job that they really knew that they were doing and took great care with the rigging to try and insure the safe placement of the falling branches and wood and then the final dropping of the trunk. It was really amazing. They also were very efficient in removing the branches as they went along for grinding and raking up at the end of each work day. I was definitely impressed. My husband was extremely impressed with how well they cleaned up the site at the end of each day. On the 3rd and final day, Jay had the stumps ground while he and his crew finished removing the rest of the logs from the giant multi-leader pine that had hung over part of my neighbor's greenhouse. He asked if we would like to keep the stump grindings as mulch and filler or have them remove them and we decided to keep them since we had areas of the lawn we needed to fill before we could level the lawn thus saving us a little in buying mulch ourselves to do that. So he had the grindings raked up neatly in to piles where the tree stumps had been. He was also very careful to make sure that the roots for our neighbor's pine tree which extended onto our lawn were not ground along with the stump and roots for the tree we had taken down there, so that no damage would be caused to our neighbor's tree. All in all he and his crew did an excellent job and I would definitely use them again and I highly recommend them to anyone for this type of work. In fact I already did recommend him to my neighbor when he mentioned that he was thinking of taking some of his trees in the backyard down. read more
