My 25 year + heating and air conditioning was giving up the ghost. I had a couple of repair estimates that were, to put it mildly, ridiculous (both in price and identified "issues"). I had estimates to replace the whole thing (condenser and furnace) and Specialized Mechanical won my business with their no-nonsense approach and their willingness to work on different price option/combinations. New equipment was installed Monday and I couldn't be happier. Their work is clean, clean, clean. They keep to their word, show up on time and their work is professional. Pricing is excellent. One of the things that differentiates Jon and his company from other tradesmen is that he reads and promptly answers (that night) e-mail! This might seem like no big deal to some, but to me it is a huge deal as all communication, negotiation etc. is done promptly, a record of such is established, and it imbues a sense of trust. I have worked with others who apparently think e-mail is only useful to spam me with the latest deals, coupons, fall specials and whatnot, and can only be bothered to communicate over the phone. Not Jon. These guys are great! read more

Called Jon in the middle of the cold snap and came over in a couple of hours. Quickly diagnosed the problem as merely a faulty thermostat. An honest gentleman, will be calling again. read more

Our furnance went out several weeks ago just before the cool weather set in. We have a 21 year old furnance. Checked out Yelp and called three contractors including Specialized Mechanical. I selected them because of the great reviews I saw on Yelp. They are very busy but I got a call for an appointment about a week out. But it was worth the wait. The tech was a young guy named Dave (does he know what to do?). Had a good attitude and stated up front "let's see if we can fix this". Had another tech come out from different company prior to Specialized Mechanical. Said I needed to replace 'something", quoted a repair cost of $600 plus some other stuff. I'm not even sure he tested anything. Cost for a new could range from $2600-$3,800. And charged me for the service call. But Dave took the time to trouble shoot the problem, and eventually determined the problem was a faulty ignition module. He explained why he didn't work and replaced the part right on the spot. Total cost under $350. Even noted that my furnace could run another 5 years (that's what I wanted to hear!). I am a very satisfied customer. Got heat in the house so the family is happy. P.S. Called the other company and expressed my concern. They were very nice and will send me back my check for the service call. read more

Called this morning because my air conditioner had a burning smell. Dave was able to come out this afternoon and within a very short time had the problem solved. He was very considerate of the sleeping baby and the neurotic dog! He was very professional as well, and certainly knew what he was doing. I called this company because of the great reviews on Yelp. My son is currently looking for a new furnace and he will be giving them a call for a bid. read more

Simply put, these guys are great. They already have a ton of positive reviews, so anything I say will just be a rehash of what others have said. All I want to say is that, in my experience, the positive reviews are correct. read more

Thanks so much for getting to us so quickly! We are having an "OPEN HOUSE" tomorrow and it is scheduled to be one of the hottest days of the year. Jon arrived 10 minutes after our original call, and fixed our issue quickly. He also taught us how to set our AC dials to save money. Kudos to specializedhvac for being professional and affordable. read more

I wasn't aware of their high rates and wasn't informed when I called to make an appointment. Perhaps I should've asked because I've assumed that they are comparable to others which were much less. The tech was on-time. He fixed the problem within 5 minutes, took another 5 minutes to validate the fix, and charged me $154. All he did was swap two thermostat wires which was wired incorrectly. I guess you pay them to know what buttons to press. I've found the price excessive because I didn't know they charged by the hr. If I'm paying by the hour, he should've stayed the 50 minutes that was left because I'm sure there were other things he could've checked. Even give my HVAC a simple check up, check the pressures, temperature, flow, etc.. As a customer, I've felt that he was paid $154 for 10 minutes worth of work. Something just didn't sit right with me and I'm not going to use them again. Lessons learned. I will inquire about pricing prior to a commitment. Nevertheless, they did complete the job, on-time, and courteous. I'd be pretty happy too if I made $154 every 10 minutes. I give them an A-OK rating. If you have money to burn and just want the job done these guys are probably A-OK. read more

I called these guys because they were the only ones who were able to quickly and cheaply fix my unit when I had been told it needed replacing several years ago. I was shopping for quotes on a new unit and they told me it didn't need replacing, it was a bad part. They did it again during our last heat wave with prompt, friendly, and efficient service. A different bad part this time, but it was again fixed. I felt confident I was not being ripped off because of their service the last time. Everything working beautifully now! read more

My 19 year old air conditioning gave up. I had it refilled with freon twice and even had a special sealant added, but the leak was too big and it was time to replace the condenser and coil with a new, modern, high efficiency one. I got 4 quotes from the highest rated companies on both Google and Yelp, and chose Specialized Mechanical. Jon, the owner, gave me the best price, and his service was impeccable. I chose him on Thursday, and my new system is up and running today, Monday. 4 days. Unbelievable! He and his two technicians, Dave and Shane arrived this morning at 9 am, exactly on time, laid down protective floor covering inside, and went to work. They completed the installation before 2pm, without having to say or ask me anything. They cleaned up and hauled away the old equipment, and now I am enjoying a nice cool house! I have, in my 68 years, had the occasion to hire many, many contractors, to do many different things for me, but never, in all that time, have I had a more professional crew, or had a job go so well. If you are in need of replacing your air conditioning, you don't need to waste your time going through the process of getting several estimates. Just call Jon, and get the job done right, with no hassles. You won't be disappointed! If you have any questions or doubts about the veracity of my review, feel free to contact me at 760-580-0425. read more

Am very happy with Dave & Jon at Specialized Mechanical. When I first bought my house the a/c wasn't working and I was told it would be around $1,000 to fix it. I've gone a few years without using it but given the warm weather lately decided it was time to get it fixed. It turns out the a/c was working (I must have misunderstood that it works but needs some work!). There were definitely some leaks and the previous owner had done some remodeling and completely closed off the vent where the fresh air comes in. All up it will cost me around $600 to get the a/c working properly -so much less than what I was expecting. What I really liked was that Dave explained and showed me everything that was needed to be done so I felt very comfortable. Often when things get technical on stuff like this I don't really know if what they are telling me is true or not but I felt Dave was 100% honest and did a great job. I selected this company because of other Yelp reviews and I can say without question you will not go wrong with these guys. read more

After searching on Yelp to find an honest company to check out my a/c unit I came across these guys and thought I would give them a call. I didn't have any issues before I setup an appointment but wanted someone to look it over and make sure everything was good before summer hits. They were able to accommodate our busy work schedule and let us know when they were on their way. Jon showed up pretty much on time and took a look at everything (roughly 20 mins or so) which he said everything was working properly. The only issue, which we knew, was the airflow was very strong upstairs but not downstairs in our townhouse. He recommended they put dampers upstairs to balance out the air throughout at a cost of $365. I'm not sure, but to me that's a little pricey and I said we would wait. The total bill for that day for his brief assessment was $154 and thought that was very pricey since he really didn't perform any repairs just a visual inspection. I would recommend if you want them to check out your heating or air I would definitely ask them the standard charge before setting an appointment. I wish their pricing was better, so I subtracted a star for that reason. read more

Great experience. My air conditioner failed during a heat wave. I left a message with Specialized Mechanical Heating and Air after reading all the positive reviews. John provided a prompt call back and was at my house later that day. John discovered the problem quickly and had my a/c running the same day. Professional and knowledgeable. I highly recommend them. read more

John determined that my A/C issue was probably out of scope (needing plumbing expertise) on initial phone call. He recommended a company that could assist me further. So while Specialized Mechanical Heating & Air didn't provide me with repair services, they assisted me in getting my problem solved. read more

I've counted on these guys to keep my heating/air conditioning up and running for years. What I love about them is that unlike the other guys they actually fix things if they can be fixed as a first option. They're the honest ones in an industry that has some pretty shady players (my experience anyway). Had an issue with a heater recently, Cory came over and got my heater up and running... knowledgeable, polite, professional. I signed up for an annual maintenance contract which, considering I have 2 heaters, 2 AC's and 2 mini-splits, was a great deal and something i should have done long ago. read more

I called the back in September when my a/c stopped working during the heat wave. I found them to be very accommodating with my schedule and Jon was on time and fixed the problem in 20 minutes. A few days later, it stopped working again and Jon once again met me quickly only to find a different problem that cost me again...now I've paid over $500 but figured it was a fluke. Now, I go to turn on my heater and guess what...nothing! I had a friend go up into my attic and wow, the switch was turned to OFF....No one has been up there! I feel horrible that I trusted them and I am so happy that I did not call them to repair the heater...I can only imagine what the cost would have been. Please beware. read more

I have been without AC for three days. I contacted two other highly rated companies from Angies list and Yelp but they could not help me until next week. After experiencing the hottest days of the year I could not put my family through 5 more days of this. I emailed the company at 1am and got a return call at 730 this morning. Jon worked me into his schedule and fixed my problem in no time. Jon was friendly knowledgable and trustworthy. Do not be a dummy like me and call other companies...give Jon a call first. read more

Had a great experience. Like a car mechanic, you need a good technician that isn't about just trying to leech the most money out of you. These guys are great. read more

This is their employee Dave's 2nd visit to our house in two years and we really like him. He doesn't cheat and seems very honest and experienced! He quickly assessed our problem (a fuse, whew!) and told us to start turning on our A/C every month or so for 5-10 min. to make sure and circulate the oil/coolant. We normally turn it on 1-2X a year bec. it's so expensive to run. We will definitely take his advice - it's bec. we haven't been turning it on that he felt caused the fuse to kick - due to the probable oil accumulating in the pipes and settling to the bottom, making the compressor hard to turn. (Initially, our A/C came on for only 20-30 min. and then kicked out, not coming on again.) We paid the basic $154 service fee (It's gone up since last year, I think!) and he was on his way. I trust this company and think you can, too. My only complaint, which I chose not to ding them for, is that I called last Saturday (it's always voice mail only) with the message saying we'd receive a call back within 24 hours. We didn't and I had to leave a 2nd message 3 days later and THEN heard back from John, the owner I believe, scheduling us for the following day - 4 days after my initial call. He said the message should have been changed since it was the Labor Day weekend & that it would take longer to hear back. read more

Can't say enough! 6 stars! Jonathan was fantastic! Called in the middle of this recent cold snap as my condo's furnace wasn't producing heat. Got the answering machine and it was a busy time for them. In less than 30mins they called back. In less than an hour since I left the message they were at the condo. Needed a new thermostat! No attempts to up-sell a thing. Professional and competent! Will use their service again! read more

Our furnace stopped working just as soon as it started getting really chilly in Oceanside! We called today and Jon was able to come in the afternoon. He was quick, efficient and like what others said, he did not try to up sell anything. He just told us what was wrong and fixed it right away. We will definitely be recommending them and using them again in the future! read more

Our upstairs A/C broke, right when we're having a heat spell of course. My husband called a few companies and some didn't even bother to call back, while another one could not even get to us for a week. I called these guys in late morning and Jon was at my house by late afternoon. He immediately identified the problem, and also checked the refrigerant levels and fixed a couple other issues he saw. The price was reasonable and he was in and out in an hour. I wouldn't use anybody else--outstanding work! read more

This is a really great company with excellent service and client care. Dave came out the same day when our veterinary clinic's air conditioning stopped working. He was professional and knowledgeable and was able to figure out the problem quickly. When another problem presented the next day, Dave came out within a few hours. Dave was up front about costs and even suggested a few ways we could take better care of our system and reduce the likelihood of future problems. I really can't say enough great things about this company. read more

Jon quoted us and did the whole job start to finish as promised. Very rare these days to have the whole process smoothly. Great customer service and he always gets back to you. Highly recommend this company. read more

12/8/2014, My Coleman furnace stopped working over a week ago. My house has been a little chilly lately in the morning. I'm starting to feel the heat from my family who is not pleased with chilly mornings. My first thought, how much is this going to cost me? I knew from past experience that Specialized Mechanical was my first choice. Their rates for the service call and hourly rate are in the median range compared to the competition. I know from past experience there honest, highly trained, and not going to try and sell you something you don't need. They will also return your calls in a timely manner. Based on today's experience, I highly recommend Specialized Mechanical for heating and cooling. Jon is both a gentleman and highly skilled technician. Thanks again Specialized Mechanical Heating & Air! read more

Jon is awesome. He came out multiple times to diagnose and repair our furnace. We've had years of problem but he is the only one who didn't try to sell us a brand new system. Highly recommended. read more

Outstanding professional service in a very timely manner. Dave did a great job and we are cool once again. The service charge was very reasonable. Highly recommend Specialized! read more

2 years ago I had a problem with my AC so when I had another problem, I called Specialized Mechanical again. To be honest I called another company, Stillman AC, as well since I had just gotten a coupon from them. Tyler from Specialized came over and diagnosed the problem as a bad compressor. I made arrangements with Jon to have it replaced. That was on a Thursday. The following Monday, yesterday, Tyler and Dave showed up to do the repair. They worked longer than they thought it would take since the unit was old and gave them problems. Jon even came over and helped them figure out what was wrong. Not once did they complain about doing the work or about the fact that it was taking a lot longer. Tyler and Dave were great! They got the AC up and running and went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy. Again, Specialized Mechanical earned my future business. By the way, Stillman never returned my call and my coupon is now in the trash. Kudos to Tyler, Dave and Jon for another job well done. read more

Great experience. Got an appt. quickly, they were right on time, friendly, informative and professional. would definitely use them again.

We had our A/C inspected when we saw a Yelp deal they were offering. Better to get in checked in the winter before the summer. They were quick to make an appointment and thoroughly inspected our system, writing a full report. Took time to crawl through the attic. We had no problems, but we felt comfortable going into the summer heat wave. read more

Living far away from an ill relative is difficult at best, but trying to find reputable service people for them being 3,000 miles away is a challenge. Through Yelp and Specialized Mechanical I was given the opportunity to save thousands of dollars by not replacing a functioning air conditioning system of a terminally ill relative . Tucker Appliance Repair told me it was shot and had to be replaced. Specialized Mechanical saved me over $4,000 by repairing the unit for $332 and did an excellent job, i.e., cleaning ducts, replacing filters, refilling low refrigerant, replacing valve caps with o-rings - installing foam tape insulation and cleaning the unit. They asked the right questions about which rooms are used and closing registers in rooms not being used. They opened registers in the main part of the house that were half closed which kept the old unit running all the time. An extremely dirty air filter that reduced the efficiency of the unit was replaced. In one month the charge for this service call will be paid by the savings on next month's electric bill since the bill had more than doubled int he past three months since Tucker checked it out. They also worked well with the caregiver and called me at every point so I knew what was happening. read more

Quite pricey, $150 for an inspection. Nothing actually need repair and nothing replaced. It is basically 10 min check. Arrived late even though I made appointment one day earlier. Probably they may do well on complex job, but for a call-up fee, I have to say it is pretty overpriced. I am really disappointed especially when I look back so many 5 stars comment. read more

Excellent customer service, excellent personal service while on the premises, and Very Good in keeping with quote for 2 furnaces & 2 A/Cs. Dave called about coming earlier than scheduled, which was great. He corrected some issues from the original installation (NOT done by Spec Mech!). The company is one person (Jon) who was absolutely fantastic. We had three quotes for our heating system which didn't work upon purchase (the house was a foreclosure). First quote was $5000 for "fixing, sealing and cleaning ducting (built in 1995)". Second quote was up to $11,000 to replace the whole unit. We called Jon at 2:30pm in the afternoon, he was out within an hour and had the whole thing fixed and sealed (and he cleaned up after himself) for under $400 by 4:30 pm. Honest, professional, patient and highly highly recommended. Did not try to sell me services that were not necessary. Do yourself a favor and hire this guy. The other reviewers are absolutely spot on! read more

Prompt response, no delays. AC unit was moved to a new location - very neat and clean job.

We had a small job done by John from Specialized Mechanical today. What a pleasure it was...here is what we received: a fair estimate, a phone call prior to the appointment time to let us know he would be on time, quick but thorough work, and explanations of the work without using industry jargon. This firm delivers the goods. We will refer all our friends to "SM" with total confidence read more
