Walked in on a Thursday evening and was able to be seen immediately for pedicure and full set ($60 for full set and $55 for pedi) I asked for French tip on feet and hands and they came out so perfectly elegant and simple just like I wanted. I had to find another nail salon. My last nail tech has gotten so busy it's almost impossible to get seen and the other just did a horrible job. Found this place on Yelp. Went because of ratings and they take walk ins. They have a variety of techs available with a decent number of stations. Everything is cool. I gave 3 stars because the nail wasn't that clean look. I have been coming to Special Nails for more than 20 years now. The owners Mary and Jimmy are so great. Hana their daughter does amazing designs. The other workers are good too especially Jack, new and young but has great talent. Prices are affordable and about the same as other salons or less. They usually can handle me quickly even if I walk in anytime. I will continue going to this salon because they are like family to me after this many years. Based on the reviews, I almost did not come to this salon. However, my lil cousin recommended it so I gave it a try. Back story: I moved back here 3 weeks ago & had my nails done "across the street" from this salon. I barely made it 2 weeks before I had to get another pedi/mani. So in I go. And I was assigned to "Ann". 1) She was able to perform ALL my services without pushing me to someone else, & 2) She frikkin nailed all services! I accumulate lots of dead skin around my big toes due to poor circulation & Ann had no problem getting it all off. I had a chipped toe nail that the other salon just painted over it. However, Ann quickly fixed it & kept right on going. Just a phenomenal job on my pedicure. The massage put me to sleep. Ann recommended I switch from gel nail polish to dip & she was spot on. Every other time I've come here, and this is honestly the best experience I've ever had at any nail salon and that is all thanks to Mary, she is such and amazing technician even with all the calls she had to answer and customers she had to ring up I still managed to get in n out in an hour. This is the closest nail salon to me so I tried it out today. The facility is very small, cramped and it was busy when I arrived. The line moved quickly though and it was my turn for my manicure in no time. Abby suggested a 'shellock'?, the uv colors that lasts for 3-4 weeks & did a fantastic job. It dries hard under the UV light and they are hard right out of the drier. She did the hand massage after the manicure! This is not the kind of salon you go to treat yourself for a relaxing mani-pedi but they surely did a great job! Oh FYI, they only take cash for a tip so you want to go prepared. read more

I have been a customer here for almost 10 years and the service I received today was terrible. Had gel done once on my hands with patchy application and I asked for them to be repainted. The man who serviced me sighed very loudly, spoke to his coworker and tried again for a second time. As he filed my hand I was in pain the entire time. I asked him to be a little more gentle and he kept filing down on my skin with the same force. The second paint job was much worse (photo attached). You can see the lumps of polish making my nails look insane. The second time he removed my nails he did not let the gel soak off completely and filed my nail bed down so much that my hands were stinging. He stormed off and did not ever acknowledge the pain I experienced while he was OVER-filing my nails. Hana had to intervene and do my nails for a 3RD time and still had the same issue of not having the nail evenly coated. I'm sad that I have been a loyal customer and was treated, poorly, made a spectacle out of, and gaslit for not being satisfied with the service provided. I never complain about services done but this was very disappointing. Do not waste your money and time here. read more

Very dissatisfied with the customer service. This was my second time visiting as a walk-in. The wait is long, they sat me in to soak for a pedicure. I waited so long that they changed my water twice because it was cold. The first time they forgot to add the spa salt and I soaked in plain water. I watched them service three people over me that didn't have appointments and it was obvious that they were regulars. I finally took my feet out of the water, let them air dry (that's how long I was waiting) our on my socks to leave. When trying to leave they apologize and asked me to stay, I ask them for how long and they told me another 10 minutes. I politely declined and left. I wasted an hour waiting. I visit this location every couple of months. Many times Yen is the person doing my American/French manicure and pedicure. On this particular day I had not called ahead so decided to come in for service. Originally came in for a pedicure and a manicure. I sat down for the pedicure and proceeded to have the owner have to instruct the technician on what to do and how to do it. I had a sinking feeling, but felt that I had had fairly decent service here before. As I'm immersed in my book and relaxing my eyes, I begin to notice that the young lady is not doing a French manicure. She is doing my toenails entirely in white. I have to yell over to one technician that I know speaks English well. The owner comes around and says that he did advise her of what to do. No apologies no discount and I received a wonderful bill of $60 for a pedicure that lasted twice as long and was rushed . I was in dire need of an emergency manicure since my engagement pictures were supposed to be the next day. I went into this establishment hoping for the best. Unfortunately my experience was nothing but horrific. The individual that helped me was nice, but he had an insane injury on his right thumb nail. It was completely missing, and looked like it should have had a glove over it. Also, I am pretty sure the utensils they were using were previously used by someone else that was sitting in that chair. My manicure started to chip the VERY NEXT DAY. I also noticed they did not clean the massage chair after someone sat in it for a pedicure, then fifteen minutes later, they sat a girl in THE SAME CHAIR. Amazing nails! Awful eyelashes. Kim did an amazing job on my nails and followed every one of my requests, which is the only reason why I'll be returning. The eyelash extension bundle was $40 and I ripped them out within the hour. Hannah did everything just right, but they were thick and bulky looking, her patience with my ticks were wonderful, but the eyelashes themselves were HIDEOUS. Never again. NOTE, we did not make an appointment it stated WALK INS welcome, so myself and two other went there, the person asked if we had an appointment, not even looking up from the client she was servicing...we said no, she said we needed an appointment, just rude no welcome how may I help you. I'd hope the color of green trump the color of black or brown but I guess I'm wrong. No I will not visit this establishment again no matter how many time I come back to VA. read more

The chairs and nail stations are not being wiped clean with sanitizer between clients. Holly did my nails and I noticed she was using the same gross towel for every client. The nail stations were covered in nail dust and old nail pieces and she still had me sit down like the station was ready. She proceeded to use the same dirty dremel to file my nails that she used on the previous client. What if others client's had been cut and blood drawn and transferred a disease to me? Or other clients? It's really disgusting in general but during a PANDEMIC this is atrocious. The area to place you nails under UV light was gunked with nail polish and not clean. The same cheap nail file that looked disgusting was used and the brush to dust off hands is used for every client too...They have signs saying the employees have been trained to sanitize. Went today and got angry because I paid 5 dollars extra to have my callouses removed only to leave with them still rough and dry. I asked them to fix it and they refused. Also the lady who did my feet didn't even massage my feet during the pedicure. She gave me an attitude any time I asked her for something. Wish I got her name cause I do not want her ever again. Made me more mad because I was the only one with bad service in my group. If the issues had been resolved I wouldn't have left one star but they were argumentative and rude. I will say my friend got an awesome pedicure, massage and the guy did great removing her callouses. If I had her person I would have given 4 or 5 stars. Customer service sucks tho. Didn't even go into the salon because they hung up on me twice and were EXTREMELY RUDE on the phone. I called asking how much a shellac manicure and pedicure cost because there isn't any information on here or a website. She just hung up on me. I thought maybe we got disconnected. Second time I called I asked how much a shellac manicure cost again and she said "you're Vietnamese right?" (I'm guessing they have caller ID) and I said yes?...and she said "you don't have to ask me" and hung up on me. I really don't understand what just happened, but I've never experienced anything like this from a nail salon in my life. My mom and I came, without an appointment, at 4 on a Monday. We each wanted a pedicure and a shellac manicure. We were seated in a chair right away and they got straight to work on our feet. That service was great and my girl listened when I wanted my nails shorter and she also recommended doing something fun with the color (adding a slight glitter to the top). My shellac manicure went very well, too. I wanted a pattern I had seen from their Yelp pictures and I got it, with my desired color combo. Overall, it was a good price for what I received and I'm looking forward to showing off my nails for (hopefully) weeks to come. I went for the first time last month & had a good experience with Belen. I went back for my pedi/mani with shellac and it was awful. The foot bath was dirty (there was stuff that looked like tissue on the jets-disgusting!) massage chair broken. It costs $79 for services and my polish looked like a kindergarten student applied it. The shellac was uneven and all over my cuticles. I spoke with the manager that day, but after two hours for such a crappy job, I'm not going to bother going back. read more

Never come here and waste your time on lashes. I came here for a mink fill while I was out of state on business travel. Waste of money, too overpriced. The girl did not even tape my eyes and just started gluing individual lashes, half of them did not even go on my lash line or even attach to my lashes, I could see it and pulled the loose ones off. The girl kept telling me they looked good and then I looked in the mirror and pointed out all the lashes going in the wrong direction, she told me the ones in the wrong direction, we're not the ones she did and I knew that she was getting defensive. I was calm but she could tell I was disappointed at the end. I would have been better off without the fill at all and now my lashes look really phony. I asked to use a lash brush to brush my lashes to make sure they are in the right direction, the girl fumbled through the junk drawer and said she didn't have it. How do you not have something so essential?! I can tell this was like going to a hotdog stand and expecting a filet mignon after my experience. I could have gone to cvs, bought cheap ones and done a better job myself. Total amateur. Maybe they do nails better but they should stop doing lashes. read more

I made an appointment for 6pm and arrived at the salon a few minutes early. I was told to pick my nail color and to go to the pedicure chair for service. I sat in the chair with my feet in the water for 1 HOUR with NO SERVICE. Finally fed up I asked for a towel to dry my feet and left. It seems this place does not honor their appointments. This was my first and last time visiting Special Nails. I would not recommend anyone visit their shop on the weekend even if you do have an appointment. read more

I started going to this salon just by chance in January 2014. I went online looking for a place to get a wax. I got tired of the cramped and less than inviting place I used to go to get my mani -pedis. I was very pleased with my first impression of Special Nails and Spa: spacious, soothing music and inviting décor. I got a great wax with Mary in a very private, spacious and beautiful room: Loved the experience. I went back for wax again and a pedi, again with Mary. I learned that this is the salon's NEW location. They have been here only 15 months - they used to be in another location in the same shopping complex. Lucky me, I discovered it AFTER they moved.
