This place is as good as it gets, bar none! They go above and beyond to make sure your needs are catered in every way.. I've now been to this location twice - The first time I got a free visual inspection by the manager.. he filled my tires up, visually inspected all around as much as possible then looked at my battery and checked the voltages and all - for free! Yep, for free.. He went above and beyond, and told me what the issue likely was (starter motor).. so I waited as long as I possibly could until my starter motor actually died and then immediately called spec-1. They got me in, in 2 days and had the starter replaced + oil(and filter) changed in an hour and a half! They're so knowledgeable about what they do and they're so friendly. They not only did my oil change and starter motor, he cleaned the engine off.. added brake fluid.. checked my brakes.. cleaned the fairings.. added some air to my tires. This kind of service is just stellar and I really can't thank them enough.. Also, I asked the mechanic about my kickstand - cuz it feels like its hanging too low when its up.. He told me just to get a new spring on ebay and pop it on myself.. He said it'd be relatively cheap and easy to do. Instead of trying to haggle me and get more money, they told me how to fix the issue and didn't drive the price up on me in any way. These guys are motorcycle miracle workers. I assure you, these guys are the best! I've been riding 30 years here in the Bay Area, and been going to spec-1 over 12 years, they have ALWAYS been the best, over 12 bikes with them, various issues from rebuilding motors to tire changes, never once a complaint! Bring your tires off the bike to save time and money, yea its a hassle to do so don't complain if they charge an extra $20 each wheel to do it for you; you decide. $90 is the current hourly rate, but I can tell you, they won't overcharge, and it will be done right. How many other companies do you get to work with the same people 12 years? I can't think of even one... certainly not any of the other "motorcycle shops" including the stealer-ships. read more

Gave my Honda Shadow VLX for a service. Bought a used bike from Craiglist , it was giving me a lot of trouble on low RPM . Very choppy acceleration on 1st Gear . Took the bike to Spec1 . Glen had recommended a full service for about $500 , was little skeptic about spending that much , but agreed anyways . After a week when I went to pick up the bike , the bike still looked choppy , Glen tested the bike and agreed to take a look . And after 1 week of working on the bike they turned a old used bike into a smooth ride. They did not charge any additional money for extra effort to get the bike right. A gem in service business, straight forward, attentive and honest workers. I had my tire changed here.

A shop is only as good as its mechanics, and the men at Spec-1 raise the standard for the entire industry. They bought the seals for a repair I needed done, and when I ended up not being able to afford it until two months later, they still had them. Upon doing said repair, they also changed out my brake light for me, as a freebie. They are polite, competent, and get straight to the point in conversation; not pushy at all. My house-mate, who rode a ninja-250 as his primary vehicle for several years, recommended them to me once I moved in. He said that after the engine wouldn't start, he was told by another shop's mechanic that he would need an engine overhaul. The people at Spec-1, however, discovered that all that had happened was a bit of fuel flooding, did a few minor repairs, and sent him away with a small fraction of the bill he would have had at the other shop. I will not use the words of this friend to describe the place, but they add up to, "In all the years I went to Spec-1, they never [took advantage of] me." Their rates compare favorably to other shops, and you can't go wrong on the quality of work. read more

This shop is amazing! I came in to swap out my tires and they were able to change them within the hour - they even adjusted my throttle, clutch play, and brake lines for free. After leaving the parking lot, I actually slid out (new tires) and downed my bike. Glenn and his team, however, quickly rushed over and helped me out, re-inspected the bike, and even replaced my footpeg for free. Needless to say, I ordered a new mirror assembly and handlebar weight and will return to have them fix it. Glenn and his fellow mechanics truly know bikes and how to treat their customers. Service is quick and easy. They told me to come in Wed morning, but call them again and they are willing to help me if I can come at 4pm on Tuesday sharp. I watched as they did their services since I have to be there for 1 hr, and everything is done as I requested. Put in the R4 synthetic oil and runs like a charm. They also test ride my bike and adjust my clutch cable free at charge! Very professional and they definitely seem they know what they are doing. I will come again and will recommend my other bikers buddies to visit too! Service charge was at least at a reasonable rate and I feel satisfied. read more

This place has earned a good repore with me. I live approx. 3 mins away and first came to them with a washer in my 2009 CBR600RR rear tire. It didn't have any chance to be revived so instead of telling me to buy brand new tires from Cycle Gear, Glen sold me a rear tire 20% off that was brand new due to a previous owner who bought both front and rear but only needed the front. That was 2-3 months ago. So I found out yesterday that my rear was flat again. So I took it over there and asked for air. The wrenchhand there investigated and found a slight tear in the tire (probably due to the crappy roads in San Jose). Even with a busy schedule, they popped the tire off, patched it up, and sent me on my way without telling me to buy another new rear tire in 90mins. Granted, it was a very small tear, but I know for a fact that my Honda dealer would try and push for new rubber. These guys are knowledgeable with their bikes. Brought my "new to me" dirt bike in for service and they helped me stay on budget and on point with the basics of what my bike needed to run properly. They were patient with my questions offering me good feedback and insight. We discussed schedule and worked out an appointment that let me drop off and pick up the same day (of course I didn't slam them with me last minute need either, I know I hate it when people do that to me). I would have given them a 5star rating but I haven't done enough business with them "yet." Needed some work done on my 05 CBR600RR...it was leaking and smoke was coming out of the engine. It's the middle of summer time so I know all mechanics are really busy right now as it's riding season, and I knew spec 1 would be no different. However I was able to talk with Glenn and he told me I could bring my bike straight down and if there was a cancellation they'd be able to take a look at it as early as that day! Sure enough about 30 minutes I got a call saying it was up on the lift being inspected. Replaced a few things, lubed and tightened the chain, and performed a few other routine maintenance items for me and I must say my bike is healthier than ever! Just wanted to thank Glenn and the whole team at Spec 1 for the speed and care that was taken and given to my motorcycle! You've made a lifelong customer! I don't know whether or not to give these guys 4 or 5 stars, but since I'm in a good mood today, I'll give them the 5. I bought a bike for cheap but it had a dead motor, so I planned to buy one online and have a shop install it, and wire everything up. I called a few different shops in the area and they all wanted from 1.5 to 2 times as much as Spec-1. When I called Spec-1 and they gave me the initial quote, I brought my bike in right away. My motor came in a few days later, and they got to work on it. In the end, everything worked great. They stuck with their initial quote and I didn't have to pay any more money. A few tips about this place though: They have a lot of bikes that they work on at any given time. I think priority of service is given to people with basic things such as oil changes and tire replacements. For a bigger project like mine, It took a few days longer than expected since they want to get the other guys out of the shop asap. Glen and his team are very nice and are always willing to work with you. I dont think they try to rip you off like some people commented, but if you ever need OEM parts, try to find them on craigslist or ebay because new OEM parts will be extremely expensive, and they can't do anything about it. Literally a new part will be from 5 to 10 times for expensive, compared to the same part used on ebay. read more

I've been going to Spec-1 a few years now and I recommend them to EVERYONE. Glenn is awesome, he really takes the time to explain or talk about things. Prices are great, and they really don't try to squeeze money out of you (like the motor cafe). They've done things better than I expected (thanks for setting up that complicated headlight) and on at least 3 different occasions, did shit for free--I even offer to pay and they refuse! Wow... These guys really went above and beyond for me and my bike- And I didn't buy one thing. I called from the side of the road, and Glenn did his best to talk me through some troubleshooting. He then advised me of a tow company, which I ended up not needing because Glenn sent his shop guys to get me (I was very close by)! After test riding my Rebel himself, Glenn shared what he thought may be wrong. Due to my dealer warranty, I didn't have any work done at Spec-1. Glenn really blew me away when he offered to drop my Honda off at the dealer himself, as he had to pick up some parts. So, besides not being able to honor a warranty, Why would you go anywhere else with service like this? read more

recieved a recommend for this place to work on my two-stroke bike. after going to the trouble of getting my bike to them, i was informed "we only work on japanese bikes". the tech wasn't impolite or unfriendly about it, but he didn't bother to explain the Aprilia sitting in front of his service bay (protip: that's not a japanese bike either). ended up taking my Derbi to the BMW motorcycle shop on San Carlos instead; who weren't familiar with it either but were happy to work on it since i had parts & service manuals for them to reference. not slamming these guys, but if you don't ride honda/suzuki/kawasaki you might want to look elsewhere. read more

In the past, I've taken my R6 to a shop closer to where I work but after consistently reading more and more horrible reviews from their customers, I decided I needed to look somewhere new. Fortunately I found Spec-1. They are a small shop located behind the Cycle Gear store so you'll have to drive around to see them (you won't notice them from the street) The pricing is more than reasonable and the staff is friendly and helpful. They care about the quality and services they preform on every single bike that enters their shop, needless to say, Spec-1 exceeded my expectations. Spec-1 is always on point. I've been bringing my bikes to them for the past 6 years now. They never ever fail to give me their best of attention for my bikes needs. Glen and the whole staff are great. All friendly and trustworthy people. If you ever need any services from oil change to motor rebuild, Spec-1 is guaranteed to fulfill your bikes service needs. I have no intention on looking for any other shop as Spec-1 has many many resources from Re-sleeving worn or seized cylinders and cylinder blocks with cylinder sleeve liners they will discuss plans, parts, costs, shipping etc. they will keep you updated if parts take longer then usual to arrive and overall give you the best experience one would like to receive when dealing with a shop. They're booked sometimes 1-2 weeks, call and make an appointment an advance to be guaranteed and receive a hold on a spot for you. Spec-1 is an honest and very loyal shop. If you are in need or looking for a local shop I definitely would recommend Spec-1! read more

I had a set of Dunlop Sportmax Q2 tires installed on my Aprilia RSV Mille. Very good customer service and fair prices. They were very helpful and had my bike done in good time. Another cool thing is that they work on Aprilia machines (just the maintenance stuff - not any of the engine stuff like valves, etc.) which is really cool. Went here for a tire change with the wheel off the bike. They were courteous and quick and had it done in about 15 minutes for me at a nice price. What more can I say. I do most of my own maintenance, but wouldn't hesitate to bring them something more complex to work on. read more
