Wanna give these guys major props since they were willing to give me a hand just as a fellow biker. So I have done business with them once before as I'd purchased new tires for my Yamaha V-Star from the Cycle Gear adjoined to their building, and they were the ones I had install them and recycle the old ones. They didn't overcharge, nor over-estimate the time the labor would take, so it was reasonable over all. More recently however if my bike's battery died and (living nearby) my partner and I had managed to push it to this location. Again, made my battery purchase at Cyclegear and had every intention of swapping out the old one for the new one myself with the tools I had. ...Except it was practically cemented in place!! Try as I might, I just couldn't get it free from its mount. Frustrated and stranded, I decided to bop around to Spec-1. The worker on duty, though busy with some computer work, was more than happy to stop and put down what he was doing just to help me out. Being a much bigger fella than me (and with a better repertoire of tools at his disposal) he was able to get it loose (though not without difficulty of his own!) without resorting to more extreme measures like cutting it loose. I was extremely appreciative and he didn't charge me a cent. Earned my business! I'll be back for my next tire change for sure. =) read more

*Late Review* In December, I drove down from San Diego to San Jose to visit family for the holidays but at the same time towed my 05 gsxr so I can go riding for the first time, where I grew up And was also raised. While being down here I thought.. might as well get my bike inspected and get my suspension adjusted since I bought the bike the way it was in August and don't like how the rebound and lean was on the bike. Nate was awesome!! Probably one of the best shops I have talked to and even visited in the Bay Area! He adjusted it to my preference and my bike just felt like never before! First time doing business and I'm very happy with the work. It's a small place; they don't have an office per-say, you just walk up to the garage and talk to one of the techs. I went in about a week ago and had a new suspension link (dog-bone) ordered to bring my new-to-me bike back to stock height. Also had a look around Cycle Gear just around the front (unrelated) and ordered a helmet. About a week later and I received a call from both saying my items had arrived. Went in today to have the part installed, plus a free safety check. They were ready to go as soon as I arrived, something I appreciated. I was told it'd be about 45 minutes. I picked up my helmet around front at Cycle Gear; and they were done a few minutes ahead of schedule- score! The bike rides so much better now and after getting it home I noticed they even fixed some things I forgot to mention! Bonus points! I will be going back next time I need service, that is for sure. I set up an appointment and dropped off my R6 this morning to have a routine service performed. I was called back @3pm and was told the bike was ready for pick up. The work was performed perfectly and the final cost was exactly as quoted no surprises. I'd like to add: As I was leaving I had a question about my rear suspension set up. I lucked out finding these guys for my first and only motorcycle repair shop. They quickly checked out my first bike (used) for safety issues and recommended fixes, which they completed in a timely and professional manner. Friendly staff and very reasonable costs compared to other places I believe. I will be bringing in my second bike here for service moving forward as well. Very convenient as well that they are located right behind Cycle Gear and have a relationship with them. Buy tires at Cycle Gear and they can leave them for Spec-1 to install for you. If there is some time for you to walk around before you pick up your bike, you can walk down to Starbucks, look around Cycle Gear, or check out the bikes at motorcycle shops within walking distance (e.g., Spirit and Harley shops). read more

I was an idiot and bought a high milage sport bike that I fell in love with (it was my first bike, so I can chaulk it up to a young adult learning experience) Chris and Glen switched everything out on this bike including fluids, tires, chain in the most efficient and friendly manner you could ask for in this industry. Nobody likes to go to their mechanic, right? It means that you have a problem. However, the guys at Spec-1 (especially Glenn) as so great that I actually do not mind to see them once in a while. Sometimes I drop by just to say "hi," even if nothing is wrong with my bike. Yet, last week I had to see them unexpectedly, because I suddenly could not shift gears anymore. Fortunately, I was able to divert my ride to Spec-1. They took me in right away and had the bike fixed in about one hour. The repair cost were fair and Glenn even tried to refuse a tip for his on-the-spot service. Moreover, I had a small follow-up problem, and again they took care of me promptly and expertly. The guys at Spec-1 are great. Brought in my rear wheel for a quick tire replacement, which they took care of in less than 30 minutes and for only $25. A few days later, I noticed a leak due to an unrelated valve stem issue. Brought the wheel back and they immediately stopped what they were working on to help me -- replaced the stem while I waited and didn't even charge me! I'm a delivery driver and I see a lot of repair places in addition to all my bars restaurants ect. To me, finding a great repair shop is similar to finding a great restaurant. You just have to find the one that is always packed. THEN you know you have a winner! That's exactly what I found to be true at Spec-1. My 1996 Honda Magna 750cc needed some love. I had it in storage for 5 years, and it was time to get it back into tip top shape. I dropped it off to Glenn with a long list including: new tires (safety first), new chain, and I also asked him to check out the carbs and let me know what I need to do to get it running again. When I spoke to him after he looked it over, he let me know that I was 1,000 miles past the point where Honda recommends valve adjustment, my front and rear brakes had lots of life, and the sprockets that the chain runs on would not need replacement with the chain. So I told Glen go ahead with the valve adjustment since you are in there doing the carbs, and instead of just changing just the oil, go ahead and do a full tune up. Not only does the bike run better now then when I bought it from the previous owner, but Glenn also gave me the number to the paint guy he uses so I could ask him a few questions. It wasn't until AFTER my bike was fixed that I went on Yelp to check them out (and post my review) and here they are rockin the 5 stars. I'm not surprised. I see a very loyal customer base who bring their motorcross/ dirt bikes/ motorsport in for service. I also see some cruisers and some street bikes as well. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and I've seen a BMW bike in there too. Give them a call if you need any kind of service. Thank you guys for a job well done! I will be back. read more

This is a GREAT little gem to have in my hood ! I have between 6 and 12 bikes at any given time , from riders to restores to ground up home growns! I have brought lots of tires and wheels to them to swap out , they are meticulous ,professional and always make time for you . I have gone there for advice , they have let me look through their boxes of valve shims for a project I was doing , recently were very fair lacing up some wheels I was building , and just have the "we're happy to have your business " attitude, which unfortunately is not always the case now days ! Spec-1 recently helped me repair a flat rear tire. I was able to purchase the new tires at a Cycle Gear store in the front of the building and very easily go out back and have Spec-1 do the installation. The guys at Spec-1 were very helpful in getting my tire installed the day I called and even pulled the screw out for me, so I could look at it. At $50 a tire, I think it was a pretty good deal for the speed and quality of service and am definitely going back to them for any motorcycle needs. Glen and his guys are cool dudes. I brought my 06 hayabusa there to get my forks done. One of their techs forgot to plug in the light and caught my front end on fire. When I went to check it out, it was in bad shape. Of course any motorcycle enthusiast would be crying if their bike caught fire, even more so at a trusted shop. I was truly sad and couldn't wait to get my baby back. A week Later the bike was supposedly all fixed. Glen was the man. He even dropped my bike off at my house. The bike was perfext, like nothing happened. I tried to pay him for doing my front forks but he wouldn't accept my money. I swore to myself a few days earlier I would never go back and do business. But after speaking with Glen and his excellent customer service, I will definitely go back and do business. Everyone makes mistakes......it's how we take care of them is what sets business apart. This place is as good as it gets, bar none! They go above and beyond to make sure your needs are catered in every way.. I've now been to this location twice - The first time I got a free visual inspection by the manager.. he filled my tires up, visually inspected all around as much as possible then looked at my battery and checked the voltages and all - for free! Yep, for free.. He went above and beyond, and told me what the issue likely was (starter motor).. so I waited as long as I possibly could until my starter motor actually died and then immediately called spec-1. They got me in, in 2 days and had the starter replaced + oil(and filter) changed in an hour and a half! They're so knowledgeable about what they do and they're so friendly. They not only did my oil change and starter motor, he cleaned the engine off.. added brake fluid.. checked my brakes.. cleaned the fairings.. added some air to my tires. This kind of service is just stellar and I really can't thank them enough.. Also, I asked the mechanic about my kickstand - cuz it feels like its hanging too low when its up.. He told me just to get a new spring on ebay and pop it on myself.. He said it'd be relatively cheap and easy to do. Instead of trying to haggle me and get more money, they told me how to fix the issue and didn't drive the price up on me in any way. I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone looking for a QUALITY job. read more
