Bought a Ducati off Craigslist with almost 0 knowledge of bikes other than how to ride them. Brought in after 4 weeks of ownership for the 15k service. There was a million things wrong with the bike I couldn't have known. The previous owner seems to have tried to do all the work himself, and did not do a good job. After market parts installed wrong, missing bolts, etc... The shop provided me pictures. Showed me the replacement parts, and gave me a list of stuff that still needs to be done(only because they were parts that weren't on hand) The list of things he did outside of the 15k service was definitely more than the extra half hour of labor he charged. I brought my ducati 996 here to get repaired. My bike has not been running properly for about 2 years. The reasoning was I messed it up trying to fix a bad alternator/stator. Jim was excellent to work with. I know he had to chase lots of issues to ultimately find out why my bike wasn't running properly. Not being over exaggerated, but Jim is the most honest and intellectual mechanic iv met. And i can tell the way he explain stuff that he loves being a mechanic! Thats a major plus for me. He actually cares about the riders wether you're rich or below class. I was there 10mins before they close and he sees my tire all worn out (i know, thats my fault) most shop wouldn't care and tell you to comeback. but he did it because its dangerous and imagine i was just a random new costumer. Jim and his team will get all my future Ducati business. They got my Monster 821 timing belt issues sorted, checked my valves and found multiple small detail issues that were corrected. It would have taken weeks to get an Appt at two of the Ducati dealers and they were trying to sell far more maintenance than I needed. I got the bike in and back in three days as they squeezed it in so I could make a ride to the Quail MC event. They keep a photo log of all issues for future reference. I've always heard good things about Jim, so imagine my surprise when my experience at Advanced Cycle was even more amazing than expected. The stator on my Hypermotard had fried days before the annual BARF Weaverville Rally, and I found out last minute that the wrong part had been ordered by mistake. After frantically calling around bike shops in the area, I reached Jim at 4:00 PM on a Friday. He understood the urgency of my situation quickly and was able to find the right part, even going so far as ordering without taking my credit card deposit. I followed Jim when he transitioned from his previous shop and opened Advanced Cycles. I've known Jim for over 13 years. This "very nice old man," who is much younger than I, has been working on my Ducati ST4 over the years since I bought it new in 1999. I had the usual rocker arm flaking, which Jim warned me about ahead of time when I went for my 6K mile valve adjustment, and he had them sent out and rebuilt with a harder coating. I also used to bring my 1999 Kawasaki KZ1000P18 up to the time I recently sold it, and now I bring him my Honda ST1300PA. Jim and Norbert are both great to work with, and Customer Service is very important to them. Jim's many years of experience on working on the fleet of Milpitas PD KZ1000's came in handy several times on my own P18, including a modification to the cam chain tensioner to quiet the cam chain slap.
