The previous owner had it done this way for the purpose of keeping it cheap and keeping it low maintenance during the years he lived here. Over the last few years after I purchased it, I got 3 quotes from 3 different companies to do a section of turf. I never committed to a company to do it because I didn't feel confident they could deliver what I wanted. Fast forward to two weeks, I met with Sean from Turf Monsters. After hearing my vision for the yard, he was quick about getting me their quote on the same day. Not only that, but he had an extensive knowledge of the kinds of turf they had that would fit my yard best, the process of whole installation, how to maintain it, etc. It wasn't a hard choice; I chose them to do my turf project feeling confident they would handle the job well. And did they ever! At my request, they managed to get my installation scheduled earlier than originally planned. Materials were dropped off and installers showed up as scheduled on the day they began. Every single encounter during the installation was professional and friendly. It took less than the original two-day quote for the 25'x30' area, the three man installation team finishing in only one day. And it turned out better than I had imagined it to! The bright green turf looks stunning with the original rock landscape against it. And the dogs are beyond happy with it, running around and wrestling on it, but also relaxing on it too as it doesn't get super hot in the sun. I've received so many compliments on it from neighbors and friends that have seen it, saying it completely changed the entire backyard for the better. I paid to have brand new turf installed because I was told my existing turf needed to be replaced due to visible seams. After the job was completed, the new turf still has seams, which defeats the entire reason I agreed to replace it in the first place. I also paid for a completely new irrigation system, but it appears that it was never actually replaced. Many of the sprinklers still have the same old sprinkler heads and tops, yet the company insists the system was replaced. The visible evidence suggests otherwise. Additionally, I paid for repairs to my fire pit, and within three days the structure was already cracked again. The professionalism on-site was also lacking. During the job, the crew took a break for about an hour sitting on our personal lawn chairs and didn't even bother to put them back, and they left trash and debris behind when they finished. What's most frustrating is that I've reached out multiple times to have these issues addressed, and each time I've been pushed aside, given excuses, or told things that simply aren't true. At this point I feel like I paid a significant amount of money for work that was not completed as promised and was poorly executed. Overall, this has been a very frustrating experience, and unfortunately I cannot recommend this company to others. Update. The owner has informed us that we will be receiving a refund that should have arrived today. If course it did not arrive, not is he answering any attempts to reconcile. This shows how crooked he is.

In addition we have also used them for our yard's monthly maintenance. HOWEVER, we have just fired them due to their new management's fraudulent practices. (They were bought out a year or two ago by a private equity investment group). My experience: They recently sent out an email blast that stated "Many communities and insurance policies now require homeowners to be Firewise certified annually. This program helps protect properties from wildfire damage during Arizona's sizzling hot summers. Desert Foothills Landscape is a Firewise certified provider. We do onsite assessments and implement any needed landscape and perimeter area clean-up to meet Firewise codes. Upon the completion of any work required, we provide the verification you will need to include in your HOA or insurance compliance submission paperwork." (Note we have already spent $5314.83 with them over the past 3 yrs to routinely do firewise type clean up around our home, but because our HOA is now trying to get our whole neighborhood Firewise certified with the fire department, we contacted Desert Foothills' eblast author to ask about this service). We were told by the firewise Supervisor that they would assess our property, do all the necessary clean up according to fire codes, and give us a certificate upon completion to present to our HOA and/or Insurance company that we are Firewise compliant. They assessed our property to cost $3722.43 to bring it up to meet fire codes (even though we had already spent the above $5314.83 for this and have maintained our property on a monthly basis with them for the past 6 yrs). Nevertheless we agreed for them to do this work and expected to get some sort of a certificate we could present to our HOA and/or Insurance company. However, upon completion we only got an invoice from them, no certificate or verification of being firewise compliant at all. We called their office and were told they do not issue certificates for this kind of work and never have. We were told to just send their invoice to our HOA/Insurance company. This is NOT what their email blast says, nor what the firewise Supervisor told me on several occasions. Their management will not correct the situation, nor even return calls or emails. To be treated this way after being a loyal customer for 6 yrs and having spent so much money with this company, it is incomprehensible to me this company would do this. I would suggest anyone looking to do business with this company to look elsewhere. If they treated us this way, they will treat you this way, too.

I requested a quote to replace dead grass with decorative rock in a small yard--about 750 sq ft (roughly 37 ft by 20 ft). His estimate came in at about $2,600. To understand the cost, I called local rock suppliers. Rock runs about $71 per ton, plus $75 delivery, and around a 10% fuel surcharge. For the 8-10 tons most companies quoted, that puts materials at roughly $900. Barrier/tarp material is around $100, so I estimated about $1,100 total for materials. Since he said the job would take about a day: removing the remaining grass, laying barrier, capping sprinklers, and spreading rock that means the remaining $1,500 of his quote would be labor. That number surprised me, because it made his total price about 65% higher than other quotes I received for the same amount of rock and the same scope of work. I will be going with another vendor because his price was over $1,000 more than the others. That said, he was polite and professional, and I can't comment on the quality of his work only the cost. I'm sharing this to help other customers make informed decisions. I recommend getting a few quotes for comparison. Hopefully this feedback also helps him stay competitive, because he seems like someone people would want to hire.
