This was an unexpected dinner stop for us after a day hiking around the lake in Bemidji on our 32nd anniversary. I had the walleye ala meuniere (sauteed in wine-butter sauce), and it was absolutely delicious -- perfectly flakey fish pan cooked to perfection with a golden flavor-filled crust. It was accompanied with fresh green beans that were cooked just as they ought to be (and so often times aren't at restaurants) -- crisp tender with just a smidge of lemon butter. Also on the side was a choice of potatoes or rice, and I opted for a tasty wild-rice medley that was great with the fish. My entree also came with choice of salad or soup to start, and I chose the butternut squash soup (my fall fave). I've had that particular soup many places and this was by far the best version I have ever tasted -- slightly sweet and spicy. My husband had the steak salad, which was also terrific (he asked for bbq sauce on the side, which is his favorite way of eating that salad, and they happily obliged). We had a glass of Reisling wine, which we ordered without viewing the wine menu, so I can't speak to the wine and drink selection, but our wine choice was very good, as were the hostess and waitress who served us -- all quite friendly and happy. They had classic jazz music playing, which was nice ambiance for the evening crowd. We had eaten lunch here once some time ago on the upstairs patio, which was a more casual experience but delicious and fun in a different sort of way. The view of the lake is wonderful from the patio or from the inside dining room. ALL IN ALL, and especially for a town the size of Bemidji, we were delighted to find a place with expertly prepared food, great view and comfortable, warm atmosphere. read more
