I have eaten here numerous times over the last four years and with a heavy heart I will tell you the food quality has done nothing but decline. When speaking of the value there is none here. The bar and view are top echelon. The service is fine, but the food is at the quality level of a well run McDonald's, and in last nights instance it's worse. It was as if the food sat under a warming light for extended period of time. At least the view was amazing? read more

Our overall experience was lovely, mainly because the setting is stunning overlooking Detroit Lake. The drinks were fabulous and the presentation top notch. We all really enjoyed the firecracker cauliflower, Caesar salads and the shortcake for dessert. The restaurant was out of several items on the menu which was frustrating as our server didn't prepare us for this and had to come back to alert us after several different ordering attempts. The pork chop was by far the best thing our table ordered. The prices are high but if you know you're paying for location and ambience more than taste, you won't be disappointed. read more

My wife and I love to come here for date night and have never been disappointed. This visit was no exception. Emma provided excellent service and was very attentive, but not too much. We dined on the patio this time, as it was a lovely evening. She ordered the baseball sirloin and it was cooked just the way she likes it. First time coming here last night, and it was a great experience. We came on a Monday evening not expecting it to be busy (but it was, of course lol). The host, Taylor, was very quick to help us find a spot even though it was so busy. We sat in the bar area and the man serving us, Setty, gave wonderful and timely service despite how overwhelmed the whole staffed was. Very nice place, lake side with a lake view to boost. They have indoor and outdoor dining, service was very good. I had a seafood soup for an appetizer that was the best part of the meal- huge chunks of fish in it and very good taste. For dinner had the walleye with mashed potatoes- also very good. Price is not cheap but also not exorbitant for fine dining. Definitely the classiest place in Detroit Lakes I found! read more

We were excited to visit The Fireside for the first time this past summer. My prime rib special was delicious and the portion was generous, taking home enough for two more meals. The onion rings appetizer was delicious. The outdoor seating was comfortable, with pretty plantings. There was a beautiful view of the lake, with a colorful catamaran sailing in the setting sun. The server was also very attentive. We ordered from the specialty drink menu, mine a mixed drink and my dining companion had the "Blue Bicycle". Both drinks were were colorful but we were disappointed at the lack of flavor and, in my case, lack of alcohol. The next table over must've known the bartender was a weak pour as they ordered shots. We'll be back for the food but will skip the specialty and mixed drinks next time. read more

We were able to come right off the lake and park our boat at their dock. They welcomed us in wearing swimsuit coverups and swim trunks. The food was fantastic as always. We started with the Ahi Tuna, which I would highly recommend. I ordered the chicken Parmesan that came with asparagus and polenta. I could have used more marinara on the top but overall it was very good. My brother ordered the ribeye and my husband had the New York strip. I preferred the strip over the ribeye, it was better seasoned and not overcooked. We finished with the chocolate tart. I am not a dessert person, but this was delicious and I could have ate the whole thing on my own. It wasn't too sweet. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the lake view. read more

Food was pretty bad, and way overpriced for the quality. Ordered the burger- was asked how I wanted done- said medium. Came with soup (or salad) and fries. Soup came out first- was "red pepper and white bean". It was very bland and watery with a few beans floating in it. Not very good, and stopped after about 2 bites. Then waited about 30min for mains to come out. Burger came out well done. Server asked how it was, and I pointed out burger was overdone. She said "sorry about that" and walked away. I guess if they don't care, really shouldn't ask how I want it cooked. Fries were really the only redeeming part of my meal, as they were crisp and hot. read more

I was tetering between 2 or 3 stars. We were here last night for first time. The location is great with a nice view and patio. Our group was mixed on the food prep. One of the pork chops were cooked well done when asked for medium. It was so dry. My harvest salad was perfect except I had to flag down the server about the dressing in which she forgot to bring me. The risotto was totally unacceptable. It was mush. The aborio rice, if they even used it, we're kernels of broken pieces of rice. Something totally went wrong there. My husband ordered a drink. Then a duplicate. Each time had a different fill in the glass. I guess this is the best restaurant for this city. We expected alot more for the price. read more

Let me start by saying the service was impeccable. My spouse and I ordered (pan fried walleye and grilled shrimp). Each meal came with only soup or salad, no potatoes or vegetable). That was extra. We ordered au gratins to share. The walleye albeit a small filet, was very good. The grilled shrimp was barely luke warm and unremarkable. We ordered no alcoholic beverages. NOT a special occasion restaurant; go to Spanky's instead. We made reservations here for our 50th wedding anniversary; we let them know it was our 50th when we called. We drove 250 miles to stay in a hotel to eat here to celebrate. We arrived 15 minutes early, drove in and noticed a sign lit up that said immediate seating. We arrived and said we were early for our 50th wedding anniversary reservation and I told her we were so looking forward to the view. She said we weren't really seated with a view and took us to a tiny table in the back of the room next to a pole. We told her the table was too tiny for us and that we'd have a drink at the bar and wait until something better opened up. She said we're only two people and that's the table we could have, or go outside. (It was raining on and off) she didn't even seem to care. I've been here several times but this is the first time I got a seat near the beautiful windows that look out to the lake. This is a cozy restaurant that does food right. Tonight I started with a delicious Pinot noir which was recommended by the staff. They have a great happy hour and I ordered the scallops. They were done perfectly. They were fresh and the 2 large ones were on a bed of pea purée and had some micro greens on the side. I had the crusted walleye as my entree. I got it with a fresh salad and Yukon mashed potatoes. The walleye was cooked perfectly and had some nice crunchy toasted sliced almonds on top. It was all excellent. The staff was friendly as always and the restaurant is very clean and decorated nicely. The large picture windows add to the ambience. There is a very nice outdoor patio but dinner is not served there-just drinks and apps. Will definitely return! read more

Fireside had two good years after hiring a new chef, but took a really quick down-turn. Sadly, there is no place now to find a fairly upscale meal on the lake. Prices jumped, food quality dumped, cocktails tonight were near virgins, and the darling servers get caught in the middle. read more

I don't believe the hours they have listed on Yelp are accurate. It states closed on Sunday but we are there for dinner on a Sunday evening --check their Facebook. The food was delicious. My sirloin was prepared to perfection and tasted like a filet I've had at chain steakhouses. The firecracker cauliflower was superb. However the service was fairly slow--2 full hours for 6 pm dinner with an appetizer and salad course. We had two young children in our party and they were very restless by the time we got our main courses. If you want plenty of time for conversation then it is the perfect place but leave the kids at home. read more

Would have given 10 stars but.......Came here last night for my fiancés birthday, I wanted to treat him to someplace we hadn't been before. The service was simply outstanding! The ambiance looking out over the lake would have been beautiful except we went during a snow storm, but we imagined it to be breathtaking :) We told our server we had never been there before and asked what she would recommend, she recommended the Parmesan encrusted walleye with a hazelnut sauce, she said this was the most popular item on their menu and that people come from all around for that particular dish. That was all I need to hear, so I got the walleye with a caesar salad, my fiancé got the 16oz rib eye (I was jealous) with a dinner salad. My caesar salad was awesome, the flavor was amazing. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed with the walleye though, it came out on the plate "teetering" on top of the broccoli, the taste was fabulous but the texture was dry and rubbery, not flakey like a fish should be but besides that the taste was amazing. The ribeye was out of this world delicious! Will we go back? You damn right we will. The experience, the service and the taste of the food was unforgettable. I can't wait to take our family here for dinner when they come up to visit this summer, I might just skip the walleye....or not....it has huge potential. read more

Sitting here at The Fireside, finishing up a meal of crusted walleye and I have to agree with a lot of the other Yelpers. This is a 3-Star only because of the "average." The food/price is sadly only 2-Stars but the service is definitely 5-Stars. The price for the food you get is significantly more than it's worth. Neither the fish or steaks are local or "fresh" and the crusting I had on the walleye simply overpowered the fish entirely. However, I would come back. But only because the service here is top notch. The service staff is friendly, attentive and quick. I was definitely impressed with the entire staff here. The Happy Hour deals on wine are quite impressive and it's well worth a "Value Visit" for a Happy Hour drink and appetizers. read more

Very enjoyable dinner on the lake with good food and good service. I would recommend this restaurant. I enjoyed a dinner of fillet steak with Yukon gold mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli along with a Moscow Mule to drink. The steak was well prepared and was a good cut. I ordered it medium well and it was closer to well done, but it was still mostly tender and flavorful. My wife enjoyed the linguine pasta. Overall the food was very good, the service and ambiance were great and we enjoyed our dinner. I wish the weather had been better because the view from the dining room would have been beautiful, but the lake was foggy that day. Dinner may have been a little overpriced, but I am still happy overall. read more

The staff was friendly, prompt, and incredibly helpful even though the restaurant was at nearly full capacity! We both ordered the parmesan almond crusted walleye with a side caesar salad and steamed broccoli. The walleye was by far one of the best entrées I have ever had! Great place for a steak. Reminded me of the supper clubs in Northern Wisconsin, but very upper end. We sat near the windows so you could see the lake at night. They start you with a bread basket and vegetable plate. The wine was good, steaks were great! WIll definately go again when in Detroit Lakes. read more
