We closed out the Green Scene Year on New Years Day to listen to music and enjoy the tasty food and drinks before they close until spring. I loved my Hot Bourbon drink with a nice hit of cayenne butter and a few other tasty additions the Gin and Tonic was amazing as usual. I had the Carnitas Pizza (crisp crust, well prepares Carnitas and fresh greens) and Wild Rice Mushroom Soup. (Deep flavors with nicely done Wild Rice.). We started with the bacon wrapped dates (perfectly sticky) and the White Bean dip (tasty and crisp veggies includes watermelon remediates, yum ). We were a party of 9 (5 adults and 4 kids) in for lunch. The restaurant was busy that day but they got us in and out quickly! The pizza, pork nachos, turkey sandwiches and salad was gobbled all up. Tasty, cool, cozy -- the perfect place to chow down on a summer day! We got the bacon-wrapped dates, the flank steak salad, the turkey salad, and the carnitas pizza. WOW! My favorite taste was probably the pizza. Perfect crust, delicate. I've never eaten a full pizza by myself but I could easily do it here. The service was kind and quick. We snagged 3 of the amaretti cookies for dessert and they were an absolute dream; almond-lovers rejoice. I loved sitting with the breeze through the doors. I came here for lunch with my family while on vacation from Iowa and Arizona. I'm not sure when they opened but I can't believe this was our first time here, we have been coming to Walker for many years. The decor, service, food and drinks were 10/10. While we waited for a table to open up we ordered some drinks at the bar. We tried their espresso martini, watermelon crush, paloma and their cabana banana old fashioned, all were beautiful and delicious. The watermelon crush had a nice spice, this was my favorite cocktail. My husband and I shared the wild rice mushroom pizza, not a crumb left! It was fantastic. The kids had a cheese pizza, not a crumb left again, they raved about their fire oven pizza. My brother in law had their classic turkey salad, he said it was the best salad he's ever had. Everything looked and tasted so fresh. Even their ranch was amazing, I asked for a side of it for my pizza. Yes, I love ranch with my pizza :) We will definitely be coming back next summer, I will be looking forward to this! read more

We visit Walker frequently and could kick ourselves for not trying Green Scene before. We had an absolutely delicious lunch. We split a loaded potato pizza (decided to try someting different), which was wonderful and a smoked turkey sandwich on cranberry bread, also great. My husband and I arrived at about 11:45 on a Friday morning; there were about 5 other tables in use. By 12:15, they were packed, and the noise level was pretty loud. We ordered the bacon wrapped date appetizer, and the wild rice and mushroom pizza w/their house made sausage. Both were good, but the dates were really good! Moved on to a 2nd course of white bean, kale, bacon & wild rice soup AND it came with a huge chunk of sourdough bread and in house made honey butter! So friggin good we purchased a quart to bring home with us. Final course! Wood fired wild rice, mushroom & sausage pizza with truffle cream, mozzarella, cheddar and microgreens. A kaleidoscope of edible bounty, the land pirates have surely renegaded the great "Green beard's" secret treasure and have safely hidden it in the little town of Walker Minnesota. I am humbly baffled that such a small, remote town of a, uh, simple demographic yields an organic, fresh obsessed hub like this that houses exotic and trendy economical products! Sweet mother of Mary, the deli selection is creatively massive and unique. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for the daily updated menu- yeah, it's that fresh. Not to the mention fun quirks such as samples that the lovely mad scientists in the kitchen conjure up and disburse. Staff has always been knowledgeable, efficient and super friendly, such a plus when wandering about the plethora of colorful local and fresh products. Oh, and The farmers market! Yes, a farmers and crafters market occurs weekly during the summer. Not just vendors selling fresh local jams and handmade crafts, GreenScene, the operation itself, flows in and provides magical breakfast items and pizzas, coffee, fresh squeezed juice, etc. all whipped up onsite! I love that Walker has this cute, local grocer. On Thursdays they have a market with music and local food and goods. They offer great fresh grab and go alternatives to area fast food. Prices are higher than the other area grocer, but you get what you pay for. The produce and meat are beautiful, fresh and local. We grabbed some veggies, fruit, salad and sandwiches. read more

A bright spot in Walker for me, for sure. The Green came on the Scene in Walker all the way back in '11, as a host for the Walker Farmer's Market. The retail store is (thankfully) open year-round and allows a Pacific Northwesterner, like me, to have access to almost all the food I love from back home even when I travel east. The store itself is small, but only because nearly half of it is devoted to a commercial kitchen, where the chef and owner whip up fantastic soups, salads (bacon and feta with tomato vinaigrette, anyone?), hummus, special sides, and yes, sandwiches. The prices for most of the fresh produce and the prepared foods are quite reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes. The meats are mostly all frozen, which I understand. Smaller markets just don't have the influx of customers to warrant the expense or waste associated with a full meat counter. However, you can find great ground chuck and bison (best deals) as well as ground lamb (pretty pricey for this Oregon gal), and some poultry. Eggs are cheap out here! The pantry section of the store is hit or miss on pricing, but nearly all there in terms of selection. There are great snacks for an antipasti plate; dried salamis, salumis, cheeses, crackers, pickles, and olives. Wonderful chocolate selection, and fun little soaps and such as well. All in all, it's reassuring to me to see that a place like this (a) exists, and (b) is being supported by both locals and tourists alike. Vive la révolution! read more
