I hate to rate (whoa, rhyme!) a place solely based on a singular visit, however I do think this occasion is appropriate. Scenario- weekday visit- two first time guests. Walked in and was awkwardly greeted by locals (turning around away from their usual bar seats) staring at me deliberately as I entered like that of outlaws in a western film observing an outsider. (Maybe I'm just that hot? Haha! No way) Anyway, the uncomfortable awkwardness was instantly wiped away by our adorable server. She promptly greatest us kindly, in her northern plaid attire, fair complexion and strawberry blonde hair. She kept very good care of us throughout our visit, but my one complaint is- she never offered a drink menu to us. In a bar that's a bit strange. Ever been the sole sober table in a bar? Unfortunately I have many, many times. In bar standards the food was good, and for the price I would recommend.

After spending part of the day chasing walleyes on Leach Lake I had to stop and try the burger at Bayside. It is a little dive bar right on the main business street and you can smell the musty old cigarette smoke as you enter. The interior is like hundreds of other little bars in small town America really nothing to set it apart. I ordered the special of the day a double cheese burger with fries for $ 10 and a Stella. The burger was real greasy and just a little undercooked but I rolled the dice and ate it anyway. The fries were almost cold but cooked so I assume that was due to bad timing on the part of the short order cook. The Stella was good though and much needed after being on the water in the sun and the wind. The bathrooms were spotless so kudos for that and the bartender was a quiet but courteous fellow. All in all just an ok burger at a rather non descript bar in a nice little town. I will be back to Leech Lake next month to fish again but I will try somewhere else next time.

So Dang Nice We Did It Twice. Came to Walker for Eelpout (think WE Fest minus the music + ice) and found myself in dire need of some tasty eats. Walker is a small town (~950 people) and the surrounding towns are even smaller and far away so after some failed excursions to find a suitable place for a 3:30 PM lunch, my sister and I settled on Bayside after I consulted the mighty Yelp! It was super quiet when we walked in - maybe 3 or 4 other patrons. I'd read about their Walleye Fish Tacos and was desperately craving them but was incredibly disappointed to find no mention of the dish on their menu. Thankfully my sister thought to ask and our very kind waitress said that, while they took it off the menu for the moment, the chef would be happy to make me some because it was so quiet. SCORE! My sister went with the Steak and Swiss Dip because she loves steak, steak juice, and more steak on top. As famished patrons, we each ordered a cup of the Green Chicken Chili as an appetizer, which comes with a warmed tortilla instead of crackers and is delicious to boot. Back to our entrees though - can I just say that the 3ish hour car ride from my home in the cities to Walker, MN seems like NOTHING when the promise of Bayside's Walleye Tacos and Steak and Swiss Dip are on the other end of it? Nothing, people. If you want to carpool up there for a late dinner some night, I am totally in. They were both orgasmic - and I don't use that lightly. The coleslaw on the Walleye Tacos was tangy, creamy and the Walleye fried to perfection. The Steak and Swiss Dip was piled high on the lightest, fluffiest ciabatta I've had in a while. And then there's the dip. OOOOH, that dip. We drank the dip guys. I am not speaking metaphorically here. We drank the dip. It is that good. I would dip cardboard in that dip (but why oh why when you have their tasty sandwich to do so??) My grandma always say "hunger is the best spice in the world" so my sister and I brought my parents back to Bayside the next day just to make sure we weren't delirious and mistaken about the sheer deliciousness of the food. We weren't. It was still amazing. AND thanks to a cleared out Eelpout (bye-bye 15,000 hungover ice fishers!) they gave us their normal menu with the Walleye Tacos front and center. If you're in Walker or nearby (or far away but looking for some tasty eats) get yourself down to Bayside Bar & Grill. Your tummy will thank you :)

Nice little spot for lunch or grabbing a beer. Had the pretzel with beer cheese and the Philly cheesesteak. Both awesome.

Classic lake food. Hit or miss on weather, seating. But always good food. And great ambiance.

Bottom Line: Same excellent food & customer service as when…read moreJr's No. 19 BBQ were located at Crosslake American Legion. This is the best BBQ I've found in the lake region of the north woods or anywhere else in the state for that matter. Their U.G.L.Y. Cheesecake Company desserts are not to be missed. Top Line: Dine-in dinner at Jr's "new digs" in the old Brick House Pizza building in Brainerd delivered well smoked meats, tasty sides, and wondrous desserts. Decor is tasteful and a solid step or three above most BBQ or pizza joints. Subdued color palette, spacious seating, and stone fireplace contributed to casual laid-back ambiance. Space was easily quiet enough for casual conversation, since most folks were doing take out orders & not populating the tables or booths. My dining partner had the chopstick chicken salad of romaine lettuce, Mandarin orange sections, tomatoes, walnuts, & chow mein noodles topped with lots of grilled chicken & an Asian dressing. Portion was generous, to say the least. I ordered a smoked brisket plate with a couple sides of choice (baked beans & cole slaw for me), oversized dinner bun, & their great BBQ sauce. Iced sweet tea came with refills. I split the house baked bun to make a brisket sandwich. Owner felt brisket was over cooked (which I didn't detect), so was generous to add a couple bones of their delightful pork ribs as compensation. Special cred for the puffy bun! Very light & tender interior of brioche weight, while having a toothsome texture. But the slightly crusty top and bottom easily handled my heavy handedness with BBQ sauce to keep the sandwich intact, even when drenched with the tangy slightly sweet sauce. Brisket was distinctly smoked & literally fall apart tender. Even the bark on the burnt ends parts of the portion were pliable & toothy (vs dried out & crunchy). There was plenty of brisket for the sandwich & a bit more. Ribs, plus leftover sides, came home for lunch tomorrow. Sides were solid on taste & texture. Cole slaw was crispy & well loaded with somewhat tame dressing. Bowl of beans had bits of smoked meat (brisket?) intermingled with the tasty beans. Portions of both were generous, which seems to be a repeating theme with Jr's. Dessert cheesecake was substantial while the filling had a surprisingly light texture for something with that much heft. The lightness kept it from weighing you down after a full meal. Flavor from my Caramel Chocolate Macchiato cheesecake punched well above its weight & remained impactful to the last bite. The dominant coffee flavor ran strong but didn't overwhelm the chocolate crumb crust completely. Nice balance! Their cookies at 2-for-a-buck are a "steal of the century" contender due to the very low cost for chocolate chip cookies with a butter rich & complex flavor profile that has some unusual notes coming into play. So if you're in the Brainerd area on vacation or attending a BIR event check out the gang at Jr's No. 19 BBQ at the old Brick House Pizza location for some great BBQ and cheesecake. If you're a pizza fiend or in need some baked goods, they may still be your huckleberry du jour.

Brisket plate was a small portion and a little dry. Will not come back…read more Overpriced for what it is and nothing special.
