Way back in 2002 I moved from the Inner to the Outer Richmond to be closer to the sea. The large apartment building has "Sparkle Laundry" located on the corner of Balboa & 43rd Ave. Back then, we saw this as a nice convenience. Through the following 23 years of living here, I know "Sparkle Laundry" is so much more than that. The wife & husband team run a store which doubles as a community center. Folks stop by to catch up on local news, get a treat for their dog, meet new neighbors, and catch a bit of genuine community in what is a great little neighborhood to share. Sometimes they even do some laundry! Local police and fire department daily pick ups of dry cleaning just add more to this atmosphere of being part of The City that often feels far away. "Sparkle Laundry" maintains the feelings of family for so many of us living away from ours. As with all families, trial's & tribulations hit hard on occasion. Unfortunately, I was a part of troubling the balance of the neighborhood by posting accusations online earlier this year during difficulty with my personal health. The posts are deleted and I am doing my best to make amends. The owners graciously handled my apologies with understanding and love. Omg.. Linda is a national treasure here. My husband and I came for a week in June to visit. We decided to pack light and knew we'd have to hit a laundry spot during the trip. Luckily for us, sparkle was walking distance from our house. It's EXTREMELY affordable but what I enjoyed the most was Linda. She was SO kind. We had our Akita, Suki with us and she just loved on her. She gave us great convo and sure enough the laundry was done. We were sad to leave! Ha! And what really stood out was that neighborhood members would walk past and say hi to Linda and go about their day. Funny enough- she made some of the best memories for us. i have been a customer at Sparkle Laundry for over 25 years. Why am I customer for such a long time? I don't even live in the neighborhood. However, I know when I go to Sparkle Laundry. The facility is going to be clean. The service by Linda and Wilson is always gonna be fantastic and it's easy for me to park. There's plenty of space for me to be able to fold my clothing. It's easy the customers that go. the machines are always well maintained. And I never worry about my coins, getting ripped off, so to speak by the machines. Everything is always in good working order. The other customers are friendly ( no dirtbags) and I like the fact that I can get my mission completed fairly fast, if I wasn't that good, I wouldn't travel out of my neighborhood. I arrived at 7 am and the laundromat was already open! I appreciate it when businesses are open when they say they will be open. There are several small and large washers as well as dryers. Laundromat is clean and there was no one there at 7 am so I had my choice of machine. There is a change machine in case you don't have quarters on you. This laundromat is actually cheaper (both washers and dryers) than another laundromat in SF that I was using. read more

Not sure what happened to this spot since past reviews say it's the best -- came to do laundry this morning and many machines are out of service. They don't all have signs though -- some only have a small piece of tape over the coin slot, so I had already filled detergent and clothes before I noticed the machine couldn't operate. On top of that, the cash/quarter exchange wouldn't accept any of my or another customer's bills, so I had to run to the bank to get enough quarters. Clean space, but definitely not worth the expensive machines. read more

It's super clean, the prices are good, and the owners are really sweet and always there taking care of the place. I've never seen evidence of mice or rats like some of the other reviews have seen, and the owners have been actively cleaning each time I've been. My husband and I are back in San Francisco, trying to decide if it's time to leave NYC and move back. We rented a lovely house in the area and found that they do not allow renter to use their washer and dryer; fair enough. I looked for walkable laundromats in order to get out and walk in the warm sun. After a quick walk I arrived and was greeted by the owner (or, I presume she is). She's so kind, friendly, and I have watched her remember her clients and treat them like family. I love a sense of community, and feel the owner displays pride and warmth. I love seeing it! The laundromat is clean; likely the cleanest I have been in. Plenty of washers and dryers with different capacities and costs. I used the smaller speed front loader. It took 26 minutes and was $4.00 for a cold wash. $4.25 for warm. The normal washer is $3.00 and the large speed is $6.75 (for cold). The The dryer is .25 per 6 minutes. Clothes come out quite damp, so assume at least 30 minutes for drying on a normal load. If we moved to the area and needed a laundry service we'd definitely return. The experience was no-stress and lovely. Which is different to say for a laundromat (in my experience). read more

I love this laundry mat, they have the best woman who owns the place who is a complete sweetheart. They offer to drop off laundry and pick up for a certain price but I don't know because I do mine myself. I feel the price is a bit high but we are in SF so what are ya gonna do. They also have two huge washers and two huge dryers that can fit ALOT of clothes. To use one of those washers is $6. They have regular sized washers and they also have a medium but not much bigger than regular size. read more

This is my go-to spot to do laundry while in SF. It is always clean and I usually can get in and out within an hour and a half, give or take. Plus, it has the best prices when it comes to doing laundry. Please note, ONLY CASH is accepted. The change machine only takes $1, $5, and $10 bills. So, don't come with anything bigger. However, if the owners are there; they will gladly make change for you. The parking can be somewhat atrocious, depending on the day. So, you may have to look for awhile. Anyway, they have a bathroom if you're in need of that lol. read more

I came in here to wash some bulky items that would not fit in the home washer/dryer. Everything people said about this place is soo true! I had a question about how much I can load into the jumbo washer and the owner not only answered my question but he helped me determine how much detergent I should throw into it. He also occasionally checked in with me to see how the wash/dry was going. Usually you can't find anybody that will help you at a laundromat but it looks like this place is fully staffed during regular business hours. It's also clean too. The other owner was sweeping the floor while I was waiting for my wash/dry to end. A very pleasant place to do laundry. read more

Put $5 bill in change dispenser. Got $2.75 out. Sign says service counter opens at 8am, it is 8:15 and no one is here. Nice quiet clean place but getting ripped off and not having someone to talk to when it is advertised that I should is not cool. UPDATE At 830 the owner showed up and gave me the rest of my money. I know it's only $2.25 but in a city where a lot of business owners wouldn't have cared or made it right, Linda did me a solid. Actually after watching her work I can say I have not seen many business owners as kind and diligent as she is. Truly a model of how business owners should treat their customers. Thank you! Anyone who has anything bad to say about Linda or Wilson and their business, I will give you a swift kick in the ass. Sparkle opened up when I started my sophmore of high school...so...2001? I remember thinking..what a random place to put a dry cleaner/laundry mat. The closest dry cleaners are about 3-10 blocks away, but what did I know? We have our own washer/dryer at home and at the time I didn't own anything that needed to be dry cleaned. In the past, we always brought the dry cleaning to my classmate's parents place down the block from our elementary school. One of my friends got a job working at Sparkle when it first opened, often I'd stop by and talk to him when I was bored at home and had nothing to do, and then he stopped working there and I had the opportunity to get to know Linda and Wilson more. They've become like another set of parents. Over the years I've had the opportunity to get to know both Linda and Wilson pretty well, my entire family has! Sometimes I go to pick up our dry cleaning and I end up talking to Linda for an hour! She's given me great advice and been an ear for me to vent to. When I got my dog she'd see us walking by and come out to say hi to Mochi. Mochi and their dog, Waldo, have become great friends, its so cute. Sparkle provides great laundry services - wash & fold as well as dry cleaning. On the occasion our washing machine craps out on us or we have bulky items that need to be washed, Linda will offer to put things in the dryer for us as long as we leave her a roll of quarters. I came here over 6 months ago with my gift certificate that I won at a school auction to get some jackets dry cleaned. I've been doing my laundry here for almost a year now and I love it. Everything is always clean and neat and the owner has always been incredibly friendly even before she knew me. I can't speak for their dry cleaning or other laundry services because I always do my own laundry but I love it here. It's inexpensive, there are a ton of washers and the driers dry my loads in 32 minutes! Even when it's super crowded, the owner is really good with keeping tabs on the washers and driers and who is using them so she will let you know which are almost done with their cycles. The only downside I can think of is that there's not much parking on the street. I always end up lugging a massive bag of laundry here but if there's no parking close by I usually just turn around and go home, saving it for another time. Although perhaps I'm just lazier than the average yelper. read more

It sounds kind of weird, but this laundromat is actually one of the things that makes me really love my neighborhood. The owners are friendly and make a point of learning your name if you come in regularly. The facility is clean, things generally work, and if you leave your clothes in the machines a while, they don't disappear. Soemtimes the owners will even rescue them for you and put them in a bag or something until you can get back. I've been coming here for a couple of months now and other than the occasional load of towels, I don't do laundry any more. It's wonderful. My wife works long days and I'm on a boat half of the time, so it's so nice to not waste the time I have off waiting for the coin-op dryer all day. And it's really not very much more expensive than the machines my slumlord provides. They do an awesome job. Very detail-oriented, very thorough, prompt... It's just an all-around nice experience to come to this shop. In fact, I heard about this place the first time from the owner of another laundry shop. He told me that when I drop my laundry off with him, he just takes it up the street to Sparkle and charges me a little bit on top. Aside from the top quality job they do here, it's a pleasure to deal with them. Their one of those increasingly rare places you can go and feel like you're in a small town. Linda knows my great-aunt and uncle, my grandmother and my mom and aunts. We only figured this out after about a month, but now we can get checked up on news and gossip. I usually don't yelp laundry places, but what really stood out was my experiences with the drycleaning service. On the weekdays, the owner is there and she is very nice. I picked up one of the dress shirts, that I had laundered and pressed. The stain was FAINTLY still on it, but even the BF couldn't find the stain again when I brought it to show him. I showed the owner and she said she will do it again, but warned me that putting more stain remover on a specific spot may cause it to stain, so she suggests just redoing it when it's dirty again. She said she would do it for me for free if I wanted to do it again. I went there to do my laundry today and the place was clean and nice. The girl working it, wasn't that helpful, but she was still nice. I like this place. It's great! 3 sizes of washers too....that's always useful! read more

BAD stuff: female owner may be attempting to create an air of pretension and/or she develops temorary but nevetheless alienating picadilos. I wont be going back because I was so offended. Plus, dryers take longer than any other laundry I have ever used. Dryers have a hard time recognizing quarters, leading to frustration. No wifi. We are so blessed to have such an amazing Laundromat so close to the house. The owners are extremely friendly and really care about their customers. The first time we were here the owners knew immediately that we were new, and warmly welcomed us into the neighborhood. That's just the type of hospitality that doesn't exist anymore. When we're in a hurry, they never hesitate to lend a helping hand, to help load and unload. Some of the dryers take longer than others but once you've picked out which one does what, everything goes pretty smoothly. Overall it's a great location, and while we wait for the laundry to dry, we usually make few blocks walk to Purple Kow for a treat. read more

I hate to give them a bad review because Linda is super sweet. But, the fact is they messed up my wedding dress royally. Do NOT bring your wedding dress here to be clean! Consider yourself warned. I brought mine here because it was close to my house, not knowing that I probably should have done my research and called around to see which cleaners specializes in wedding dress. They did a bad job of repairing a 2" tear and weren't able to remove the dirt stains from my dress. To add injury to insult, there were a couple additional rips on the dress when I got it back! Rips that resulted from them drying cleaning my dress! I couldn't believe it! Linda said she was sorry, but didn't want to refund me my money nor did anything to alleviate the situation. I'm completely bummed. I had to take it to another cleaner to have it clean and press and repair again. If you decided to go with then, make sure you check your clothes before you pay. read more
