I only come for breakfast. The breakfast sandwiches are good and the halfmess with eggs is good as well.

Visited April 8 2026. See my receipt as always…read more This restaurant is inside the Hotel Katarina in Chico California. We have been wanting to stay here and enjoy their amenities plus it's close to everything! My boyfriend and I enjoyed the Farmer's Breakfast which was a fluffy omelet with spinach and onions and crispy bacon inside. It came with artisan toast and breakfast potatoes. It was delicious! The fresh spinach inside was yummy and the rosemary on the potatoes was awesome! I put fresh rosemary and sage on just about everything I cook! Its was an elevated dish with all the right Seasonings! My boyfriend had a coffee and I had a buttery glass of chardonnay. We sat in the enclosed outdoor space because I had my puppy with me. So relaxing ( next to the pool). Enjoyed breakfast by the firepit. They also have a full bar and happy hour. Let's not forget they have rooftop dining with a bar and happy hour ( i think rooftop opens at 2pm). Such a wonderful service with a very kind waitress ( Ssndra??) who brought Wlbur a water dish to keep that has their name on the bottom of the dish! Much needed hotel and restaurant in a fastly growing town!

Our server was prompt, polite, and friendly, which we appreciated. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with lots of natural light and a pleasant atmosphere. I'd describe it as "Chico nice" -- casual and trendy, but not fine dining or especially refined service. The food was okay to good, but nothing memorable. We ordered the avocado toast, chicken sandwich, a beer, and a sweet drink, and the total came to about $72. Everything was perfectly fine, just not the kind of food or experience that would make me want to return, especially for a birthday celebration. Overall, it's a decent spot for a casual lunch, but it didn't feel particularly special for the price.

It would also be nice to have non meat options, yes I know it's a steak house, but they should still cater to everyone. My husband really enjoyed his steak. The cocktails were great! The Duke was open in the basement of the old hotel at the end of the block. We walked in and it had classic old steakhouse vibe. A dark wood bar area and a lighter dining area. We were the only one in this place. It was kinda awkward. We were seated in the bar. The hostess was the waitress and the bartender. There was someone in the back vacuuming with a shop vac on high for our entire visit. We ordered the fried pickles, the BLAT with steak fries and a Caesar salad. All of the food was really good. The service was not. When the pickles came we were not given napkins, utensils, or plates. The waitress disappeared into the back. We were able to find some napkins on the bar. The next time we saw her she put the food down and we asked for the napkins. She never came back by to ask about refill on soda or water. She asked if I wanted catsup and I said yes. She put an empty container down. If I found myself in Jackson again. This would not be the place.

A Hidden Gem Worth Finding!…read more My wife and I recently took a little lunch field trip to Penryn Grill, and what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! From the moment we walked in, the hostess made us feel welcome. She did a fabulous job greeting us, making recommendations, and helping us navigate the menu. Our waitress was equally impressive--friendly, efficient, attentive, and genuinely kind throughout our visit. At first glance, some people might overlook Penryn Grill. It's tucked away next to a service station, and many might assume it's just another roadside dive with average food. Nothing could be further from the truth. This place serves high-quality food with outstanding service and a relaxed atmosphere. Following the hostess's recommendations, my wife and I decided to share several of the restaurant's most popular items so we could sample a little bit of everything. The shrimp tacos were absolutely fantastic and completely lived up to the hype. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, they were easily one of the highlights of our meal. Next came the fried pickles, which were our way of testing the waters. They had a crunch similar to fried zucchini but with even more flavor. Add a little ranch dressing and you're in business. Crispy, slightly spicy, and packed with flavor, they hit the palate with a bang. We also ordered the Penryn Burger, made with a delicious short-rib patty and all the fixings. It was juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Another home run. The outdoor patio provided a great setting for lunch, complete with good music and a relaxed atmosphere. It made for an enjoyable afternoon and a memorable dining experience. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent, and we will definitely be back. One final insider tip for my fellow retired folks: Friday afternoons between 2:00 and 4:00 seem to be a great time to stop in. We've heard the fish and chips and chowder are local favorites, and they'll be at the top of our list the next time we visit. Penryn Grill is proof that you should never judge a restaurant by its location. This hidden gem is absolutely worth the stop!

The beer selection and service are fine. When in the establishment, it is easy to forget it is attached to a gas station. Outdoor seating with nice fireplaces are available but this time, it was too hot for me. I will likely return to try out other menu items.
