Great food great prices the owner is so nice. The kids love this place and so do wish they were open just a little longer in the evening

We were exploring with our dog and stopped by for lunch. It was raining on and off throughout the day so I was so happy they had tables on a covered porch(3) and not just umbrellas. Although it did look like they had a couple of those in the back. The food prices are extremely reasonable for this area. The fried catfish, apparently a local favorite, was Huge. The clam basket was good. It came with plenty of fries and hush puppies but I wish there was a few more clam strips.

We ate for 11$ for 2 !! Awesome deal!!

Hot diggity dog!! As we cruised into OBX, we spotted this little joint and decided to check it out. We were hankering for some "fast food" but didn't want to go to a chain. What a pleasant welcome we received from the owner who also runs the register. We ordered a corn dog (yum) and a foot long hotdog with fries! I chose a root beer because, come on, what drink goes better with hotdogs!! The beverages are self-serve, and the condiments are available near the beverage station, and ketchup's on the table! The order came out fairly quickly and we were served by a jovial surfer dude! We both ate for $11 which was pretty amazing! Although this place isn't fancy, (plastic baskets for your plates) it was "spanking" clean and cute. It was a bit retro and we felt like we were in a '50's soda shop! I love that there are paper towels at each table so you do t have to ask the servers for extra napkins! They serve more than hotdogs... burgers, sandwiches, etc. I'd definitely return here next time I'm in OBX!

Spanky's Grille was a wonderful find for us. The OBX was not on our road trip itinerary. It was a spur of the moment decision. With the help of Yelp, we had found a very good place for lunch. Spanky's is a non chain diner/restaurant serving up good burgers and sandwiches at great prices. We ordered a flounder sandwich for my wife, a popcorn shrimp for the daughter, and a double meat burger for me. Service was wonderful. I had a nice conversation with the owner who was taking the orders. He was a friendly and nice guy. Everything we ordered was cooked to order and tasted tasted great.

Good food made for a nice lunch stop on our OBX vacation. Burgers were great. Prices were reasonable too. I would recommend to those looking for a quick lunch stop.

Catfish sandwich, no bun. Highly recommended.

Ordered a hot dog and fries... it was just average. This place has great service and character though. Might give this place another shot.

Good lunch stop. Burgers, hot dogs and such. The best value on the Outer Banks - even better than the chain fast food places!

While everything was great, the Banana Pudding is terrible. Its only 99¢, but I wouldn't say its worth that much.

Good Food and 'fast food' restaurant atmosphere, put a nice change of pace from the 'fancy' end of dining.

Ask the Community - Spanky's Grille

Are any of these places ever open???traveling from out of state and their lines are always busy or they're closed multiple days per week or at like 6pm?

They are like everywhere else in this country....only maybe worse....can't hire staff!!! And in case you haven't noticed most housing is pretty high end so there are few low rental rates for people who cook/serve in restaurants!

I talked Ms T into trying it again. We just can't handle a big lunch and wanted to avoid leftovers, so decided to split a pickle brined chicken sandwich with fries and an extra side of slaw. The sandwich was OK. To start with it needed more seasoning. How about breaking out the black pepper and garlic powder? The meat was uncharacteristically tough/chewy for chicken breast. I suggest they need to be pounding it to tenderize it and then brine it. It was actually hard for us to cut and eat. It really looked nice, but I think I am done with pickle brined chicken. It just never gets enough brine impact. They make good small caliber fries that were piping hot and the slaw was fine for me. Ms T did not care for it so I got it all. Our food was OK, not stellar. The service was excellent, but I still can't make this better than three stars. I hope to convince her to return for a burger during this trip.

Neither one was worth the money. Everything is expensive anymore when you eat out, I don't mind paying if the food is good. The soup had no signs of fish or seafood in either serving. It tasted like a spicy vegetable soup. It was good but no fish and not worth $9. The Quinoa bowl was average, tomatoes were spongy and tasteless and 3-4 pearl mozzarella balls. How is that $19? Very disappointing. I gave 1 star for our wine and our waitress Emily did an awesome job. She was prompt and took care of all the tables in the dining room. She did a fantastic job ensuring we had everything we needed. It wasn't her fault for the food. We are both locals and wanted a girl lunch, and appreciate the challenges restaurants face. Trio is always busy So not sure why today's food was so poor. I still bought wine at the store, again great shop.

Shipwreck's serves excellent shrimp that are large, fresh, plump, lightly battered, fried perfectly and salted just right. We again shared the order of calamari that is billed as an appetizer, but we split both plates, so it was part of our meal, and it all was plenty of food. They do a very good job on the fried food that we had and there is much more that tempted me. I don't think that the slaw was quite as good as what we had the previous time, but still a bug improvement over what it was a couple of years ago. Again, I don't know if this was a conscious change or if they are just very inconsistent. I'm pretty sure we will remain customers and I am increasing the rating because they do serve excellent seafood. The slaw cannot be the driver for the rating.
