Great little place for lunch!! Stopped on our way home and wish I'd found found it sooner. Since we're down there 2 or 3 times/month though I know we'll make it a regular stop. I had the footlong hotdog with chili and slaw. Yum!!! Great dog (Gwaltney) and cooked just right - crispy on the outside. I could have eaten two. Fries were hot and fresh. Hubby had the crab cake sandwich and loved it. Fresh and not a lot of filler. Had a side of hush puppies and they too were wonderful. So much better than Capt. Franks (which we also tried earlier in the week and were totally unimpressed). This should be on every visitor's list as a go to place for a delicious, quick and cheap meal! read more

We've gone to the Outer Banks for 7 of the last 8 years. Since the first time we've gone, Spanky's has been a go-to. The food is excellent for the price (most places, you would never see a hot dog, let alone a high quality hot dog, for less than $2. Spanky's begs to differ.). The service is exceptional, and the atmosphere is so relaxed. If it weren't for the family that runs the restaurant, it would be good food, and that's it. Awesome food! Great service! We were greeted with a cheerful voice from the order taker, who happens to be the owner. We were able to switch out our fries for whatever we'd like (and just pay the price difference. Everything was clean and a great atmosphere. Our food was delivered to our table pretty quickly. Awesome cheap eats! Left the water park ISO a delicious, quick, and not overpriced lunch spot and this place fit the bill! Had chili dogs and okra. My friend had a bacon cheeseburger with some crazy delicious potato puff thingys-she said the bacon was amazing! My son got dogs and fries. The ff's were very good! I definitely recommend this place. Based on the reviews we thought we were in for a big treat! From the moment we walked in I was grossed out. It was VERY dirty! Stuff all over the floors, trash cans overflowing with ketchup all over it. My husband had to go get a towel just to wipe off all the dirt/food on our table to sit down. I am all about divey places, but not when they are this dirty. Flies were everywhere. The corner where we sat had some old shoes and a dirty/used mop. I used the bathroom, but told my kids to wait until we could go somewhere cleaner. The kids food was average and our burgers were decent. Nothing to go crazy about. The fries were just average as well. The best part about it was how cheap it was. Atleast we did not spend a bunch of money on something we were unhappy with. read more

Very cheap for the beach. We had the $2 cheeseburger, fish tacos (mahi mahi) and cajun fries. Fish tacos were very good for the price. Lots of fish, not much other toppings though. My husband can't stand Spankys because of its raunchy slogans and decor, and I sort of agree on that point. However, my hubs doesn't eat a lot of meat, and I do, haha. For burgers it's quick, it's dirty, it's naughty, it's GOOD. I love the chili cheese fries and a burger with bacon. Don't worry, the very friendly and smiley owner will ask what you want on it, and you can have it fixed up your way. Great value, great lunch spot. While everything was great, the Banana Pudding is terrible. Its only 99¢, but I wouldn't say its worth that much.

Came here for lunch while we were in OBX for vacation. It was really busy which is a good thing and they have so many amazing, delicious choices. Their concept is you order at the front, get a number to put on edge of your table, then your food will be brought out to you. Such great customer service from start to finish. The guy taking our order was very friendly. We ordered cheese fries, fried okra, two orders of 1/4 cheeseburger, crab cake sandwich with chili cheese fries, and chicken tenders with fries. The burger was good, and my mom's cheese fries were great. The tater tots were really overcooked, though. They were crunchy, not crispy on the outside and soft on the inside like they should be. My sister had the crab cake sandwich, and she said it was okay. My dad had the bbq sandwich, and when he asked for extra sauce they told him that they didn't have any of the sauce they used in the sandwich to give out separately, so they gave him a different kind of sauce. Unexpected gem. Okay it is a dive, but it specializes in fried comfort foods. The decor is all about monkeys. The owners are the staff. The husband works the register and the wife is the chef. I had a double cheese burger, my wife had fish tacos. Our boys had popcorn shrimp and a hot dog. To finish it off, a basket of chili cheese fries and some fried cheese sticks. Not exactly a healthy choice, but it was good and the owners were friendly. When business was slow, the owners would talk with the guests, but not in an annoying in your face way. We've stumbled upon them by curiosity, and struck big. First off, understand that Spanky's is a family run restaurant, with a lot of fried food (but look at the side menu, they've got plenty of grilled and unfried options, also). But regardless, the burgers are delicious, the fries cooked and crispy, and the service impeccable. Mr. Spanky and his family have invested a lot of time, and energy into providing a welcoming establishment. He's right at the register, ready to take your order with a smile and a quick conversation. This place was pretty darn good. Stopped by for lunch and ordered a burger and cajun fries for me, BF got a bbq pork sandwich with fries (AWESOME BBQ SAUCE -seriously they should bottle and sell it) and got our daughter a hot dog/fry. We also got 2 drinks and a side of cole slaw. Less than 20$ for all of it! Food came fast and Everything was good- I do wish the slaw had a little more color and life to it though. It seems they didnt add any carrot or purple cabbage to it so it was all basically white-ish. Still tasted decent but not the best Ive ever had. We wanted to beat the traffic on Saturday afternoon so we made sure to be across the bridge before 11. Once here in OBX we wanted to get something great to eat to I turned to yelp. We found Spanky's because it was close by and had a good rating. Upon pulling up we were pleasantly surprised that they were opened 10 min early. So we didn't have to wait in the hot car with two children who were going stir crazy. The decor was fun and interesting the kids loved it. The serves was extra friendly, very informative and personable. There was tons to chose from and we hope to get back to try more things. The burger was great fries were tasty and the sweet potato fries were perfection. The price was very reasonable which made it a much better option then any of the fast food chains near by. Very nice and friendly laid back casual eatery. Had their foot long Gwaltney beef hotdog special with mustard, onions and coleslaw. Dog was much better tasting than Capt Frank's oscar meter weiners. Coleslaw also is a good addition. Prices are just right and won't break the bank. read more
