I was in your place on Wed evening 8/30/17, at about 7:30, my wife and son were there with me for pizza, my wife and I ordered a 16" Spags special while my son ordered a 12"with pepperoni and mushrooms, he said his pizza was OK, but the one my wife and I had was not all that good, our pizza had very little sauce and the crust was very thick, the server was nice but with no experience, the second problem we had was the fact that Spag's doesn't have Bud Light on tap, the best selling beer it the US and they don't have it on tap, we each had a an over priced bottle of Bud Light, this isn't the first time I've had a marginal pizza there but it may be the last time. A bit disappointed. I ordered the Mediterranean Salad with a side of prosciutto. I've never experienced "prosciutto" cut so thickly and chopped up into tiny pieces. The color, texture, and taste was totally off. I'm sure I wasn't served what I asked for. The salad itself wasn't anything to rave about- especially for the price. Also, about 15mns after my friend ordered his manicotti, we were notified that there wasn't any manicotti- mind you, there was only one other table occupied in the whole restaurant. Used to go here often for pizza 10 years ago and it was superb. They must have changed cooks or owners or both because it's average at best. I have to order a pizza well done but not charred. Even then the crust is white on the bottom and cheese barely melted. If you order it well done it's charred. Get a guy back there that knows how to cook pizza. Geesh! read more

Been going to this restaurant for years. Love their pizza!!! I usually get a pasta if I get a meal which comes with a soup or salad. It is definitely off the beaten path, many times when driving here from the mall people have accused me of looking for a place to "hide the body". I have been eating here for 15+ years and when I am going through Lansing I am always tempted to stop (except Sundays they are closed). Pasta is good, Stuffed pizza is amazing, and they have a very tasty focaccia they serve you in the basket. We had mostacholi with gargonzola and marinara sauce, a calzone with marinara, pepperoni, mozzarella , yellow peppers, and spinach manicotti. The pasta was al dente the marinara and gorgonzola was sweet and tangy. The calzone was a bit too hot to eat right away but served cut in half with the ingredients spilling out, steaming. The smell made our mouths water. The spinach was fresh and colorfully green. San Pellegrino water kept our pallets clean. Service was prompt and professional. read more

My husband and I have recently started going here after kind of forgetting about it for a few years (it's not a very convenient location for us). And I am so glad we did! Pizza is amazing, and we've also both enjoyed some of the pasta we have tried, such as the linguine with cream sauce and the mosticiolli. Food and drinks are very reasonably priced. Chicken tortellini soup is great, but as someone else noted, the side salad is mostly white iceberg...but that's the only disappointment we've had. Service has also been good. I don't understand the three star ratings and the negative reviews being so dominant, but if you take time to look at the 19 "not recommended" reviews, you will notice they are overwhelmingly positive. read more

Spagnuolo's saved the day for my Christmas gathering of 12 hungry people! I picked up pans of baked ziti, spinach manicotti and focaccia the day of the party, then baked them myself at dinnertime. For $72 I fed everyone and had enough left over for two more meals for myself. Everyone loved the food and I was a far more relaxed hostess than I have been in past years!! First, it's easy to miss this place and find the wrong "Spag's" in town. This one is across the street from some kind of shady lingerie store that kind of looks like a barn. Anyway, most of the food is just so-so. But the stuffed pizza is awesome. Choose whatever toppings you like and be prepared for a sore jaw from chewing all the tasty and fresh mozzarella that will ooze out. Great. read more

I went here recently for a family reunion and was underwhelmed. I had the eggplant parm, which was fairly gloppy - you could barely see or taste the eggplant, just the salty standard issue tomato sauce and a lot of cheese. It came with a side of pasta with the same tomato sauce, and a side salad that was just iceberg lettuce, tomato, and onion. To be fair, my kids got spaghetti and meatballs and spaghetti carbonara and the both cleaned their plates before I got to taste, so it can't have been too bad! But frankly, for the style of food and the price I'd prefer Olive Garden, which has a bit more atmosphere. Not to trash what seems to be a cherished local spot - they must be doing something right! read more

Others seemed to be enjoying their dining. Our experience wasn't so great. Wines were okay but not special. My "upgraded" salad (to replace iceberg with spinach and greens) only included to small tomato slices, while other salads had additional vegetables like carrots and cucumbers. No silverware. Couldn't flag an employee to bring some, so had to get up and find our waitress. Then no parmesan cheese on our table. Again, easier to go find it on another table than wait for wait staff. Indicated free WiFi, but my iPhone couldn't find it. Minor things, yes, but adding up now. I had Chicken Marsala which had good flavor but the chicken was drowning in the super rich sauce. Too much for my taste. Tried scrapping it off but gave up. Chicken was tender and moist beneath the sauce. I'd rather have chicken with a sauce than sauce with some chicken. Served with a simple and bland spaghetti with a few tomato and pepper chips. My wife had veal parmesan which was okay. To be fair, be didn't complain about anything, so they didn't have opportunity to fix anything. I think the mediocre wine, no silverware and having to find staff, no parmesan on table and having to go get some, set the tone. We were leaning toward this being a one-time/not-coming-back restaurant before our food arrived; they would have had to wow us with the entrée to make up of the service and poor start. Spagnoulo's is a great place to work and I think they have the best pizzas around. I would recommend the Spagnoulo Special or the Margherita Pizza. They also have great pasta dishes that make a great next day meal. read more

We have recently changed our feeling on pizza here. We normally order a pizza a week. Perhaps they have changed cooks but the past 4 have left much to be desired. Crust has no crisp, not cooked on the bottom, and often don't have the right items on it. When getting something to go you may not see that till you get home. more and more disappointing. read more

To put it bluntly, the pizza is terrible. We ordered 3; a pepperoni for the kids, a margherita and Spag special for the adults. The margherita was similar to a burnt, frozen Totinos pizza at best. The worst "rendition" of this classic I've ever encountered. I only assumed the house SPECIAL would be much better... wrong. Thicker crust, flavorless sauce with flavorless toppings aside from the completly raw, crunchy onions. Bread arrived right before our pizzas and pretty much fortold what to expect from the rest of our meal. Our server was friendly enough and apologetic for her timing being "off" all night. Maybe this pizza is acceptable to those born and raised in Michigan, but if one of the most praised items on the Italian menu is the Nachos.... there is an obvious problem. read more

Love the food. Service is a bit slow. Certain waitresses are quite obnoxious and should not be working in an intimate small restaurant. Building does not seem to be up to code, several ceiling leaks and we got dripped on from a leak while eating. When we mentioned it to the waitress she just replied that they are aware. Was so excited for this pizza, we usually chose this over any other pizza around. But I was highly disappointed with our pizza tonight. We ordered just a medium pizza with Alfredo sauce and mozzarella breadsticks with dipping sauce, we got there to pick it up in 30 min (they told us it would be ready in 20) and they forgot to make our breadsticks. We have been here twice during the week for pizza. I think the pizza is great! The breadsticks were below average. Service was good.

In my opinion, average at best. Prices are very good; I'm surprised the restaurant makes much money. However, our service was barely decent; the waitress was attentive but not very kind and didn't smile much. We didn't make a reservation, so our group had to split between two booths. It took almost 10 minutes to get a drink order and salads took 15 minutes to come out. When I did get my salad, I was very glad I had upgraded, as my sister's regular side salad was all white lettuce. Portion sizes are very generous, but my sister's dish was 3 times bigger than mine for only $2 more. The food was not particularly tasty but certainly not the worst I've ever had. We went a couple weekends ago on a Friday night. Called ahead and was told they were full but there would be no waiting. Waited around 25 minutes to get a table which was quite interesting because I counted 15 empty tables scattered around the restaurant. The hostesses would leave the front and not return for 3-5 minutes at a time. We never got a bread basket. I ordered veal, my one son ordered spaghetti with red sauce, and my other son ordered a calzone. The calzone actually was very well done. When I got my veal marsala, it was covered in cheese and red sauce. Interesting.... I took one bite and figured out it was chicken parmesan. My son's spaghetti was actually linguini in clam sauce. The waitress was trying to be nice about it, and she was. She got the manager to not charge us for our drinks instead of crediting our meals. My chianti was $4 and my son's lemonade was $2. Hmmmm...... Fair trade or not??? Anyways, we won't be back. Very disappointed with the service and the food. read more

We came here for a late lunch with the fam (a relative raved about the pizza who lives in the area), and it took us almost 3 hrs to get our food! Granted we had a party of 9, including kids, but they didn't bother to tell the guests that it would take a while for the food since they were under staffed. The pizza tasted like a frozen totino's pizza you buy at the grocery store, and my chicken fettuccini alfredo was super garlicky and the chicken was a kind of mushy like it had been boiled for too long. Giving this place 2 stars since the waitress did everything she could to make us happy due to the wait (not her fault). The owner came to talk to us afterwards apologizing (she was also the same person bussing the tables!), but if you are going to run a restaurant short staffed, at least warn your guests ahead of time. We just got back from here and this place was really bad. The ambiance is nice but the food is terrible. The pasta tastes and looks like it's the Gordon Food Service house brand. You expect to see these noodles at a truck stop, not a fine Italian restaurant. You expect an Italian restaurant to either use good imported pasta or make their own. The bread they give you with your soup was cold and tasted stale. The clam chowder had no taste to it. It tasted like they forgot to season the soup. I ordered the clams with linguine and they forgot to add garlic to the dish. An Italian restaurant forgot to add the garlic to the clams with linguine. That should tell you something right there. The server offered to have the kitchen add garlic to my already cooked dish or have them prepare another dish for me. I passed since the pasta tasted so bland to begin with. I honestly don't think the garlic would have helped much. My wife didn't like her seafood scampi either. She said the crab in the dish tasted like imitation crab. If you use imitation crab in a dish, you should make it clear on the menu. A fine Italian restaurant shouldn't be using it anyways. She said it had very little taste to it and was too watery for her tastes. My older son ate all of his food, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, but he remarked about how bland his was also. The core people have been there forever. The service is great -- just the right pace for this style of place. In addition their quantities are enormous -- we usually have something to take home.
