My husband and I dined here tonight and had an excellent experience. We were seated downstairs in a corner away from the hustle and bustle of the street. My husband ordered a sausage and mushroom pasta in a wonderful wine sauce and I had a house salad. All was excellently prepared. The owner was very concerned about my MSG allergy and took great care to protect me. I ordered Tarimisu for dessert which was amazing and a decaf latte. This is an absolutely adequate Italian restaurant in the middle of London. The putanesca and polpetinne dishes are very sour, almost to the point of unpleasantness, and are not very filling. By contrast, the carbonara is so rich and umami that even the small portion would be more than sufficient for a rather hungry, rather large man. For what you get, the prices are disappointing, but understandable considering the Leicester Square location. The service is kind and quick, and the ingredients seem fresh, if often poorly balanced. I won't endorse this restaurant but I also cannot disparage it. If you're in Leicester Square looking for a bite, this is definitely a restaurant worth considering. read more

This is an over priced place with really bad food and service. I ordered the pasta and it was floating in oil. My food also arrived very late and some guests in my party were waiting for 30 mins after the first order arrived. Once the food arrives many we're not given cutlery for a long time. Not going back to this tourist trap. Although the wait was not long (now we know why) the service was absolutely terrible. It took about 15" before a waiter stopped by our table of 5, then another 15" before he took our order, then 30" wait for the simple meal. This was about 9PM and the restaurant was emptying out so we couldn't understand why the food took soooo long. The waiter kept apologizing for the wait but he didn't make anything better. Then the bill comes with the 10% optional gratuity added on. By this time we were too tired to argue and paid it anyway. Great Italian Food. Felt like it was being made in your own kitchen. Great environment and great service. We came from USA and stumbled into this restaurant. I really wanted to like this place. At the start of the meal I asked the waitress if a dish contained blue cheese as I am allergic. She looked at me as if this was the first time she'd ever heard of blue cheese but with a confused shrug she headed off into the kitchen to ask. She returned a few minutes later giving a thumbs up and adding it was fine. The food arrives and around 10 minutes in to eating the same waitress returns and without a word of explanation steals my dish away mid bite and runs off to the kitchen. It takes another five minutes before someone comes to tell me that they think my dish contained gorgonzola (blue cheese). The fact I'm typing this tells you it did not! The host mumbled something about making a fresh dish but by now we had to leave for a theatre show so I left unfed and concerned about what I had just eaten. To make matters worse we were charged for this terrible experience... minus the potential killer dish from the ticket. The fact no one replies to reviews on here tells you all you need to know about this very poor restaurant. Avoid it if you can! read more

we ordered dipping bread starter with balsamic & olive oil, this was disappointing as they had break sticks & thin crisp bread which was hard to dip & not that enjoyable, the best part was the slices or normal thick bread. The mains were spaghetti carbonara & spaghetti puttanesca. They came out really fast even before we had finished our starter which I wasn't impressed with, the carbonara lacked seasoning & flavour was quite plain & the puttanesca was. We went here today as soon as it opened at 12:00, we were seated straight away and given the menu as well as the specials for that day. The staff were warm and very helpful, I ordered Spaghetti Polpettine (with meat balls, which were clearly high quality meat as well as hand made and tasted amazing!). My friend ordered Spaghetti Bolognese which had a lovely sauce and was well cooked. The pasta itself was very nice as it wasn't too thick and stodgy, each sauce was thick and filled with flavour. We ordered the garlic bread (which I honestly advise anyone gets!) which came out very fast and was once again home made. This is a small family run business which is very friendly and very customer oriented, which hugely works in its favour as it feels like nothing is too large a task for them which is a lovely feeling we would very much recommend this restaurants to anyone in the area. read more

I'm really quite confused by the good reviews for Spaghetti House, since our visit last month was really quite terrible. Service - this is the only reason S.H. gets two stars...our waitress was very sweet and apologetic. Ambiance - nice enough but a bit on the dirty side, especially on the bottom level. Food - Horrendous. -- Salmon Salad - this was flavorless and dry, the salmon quality was suspect, and the salad contained pumpkin seeds twice, despite my requesting they not be included twice. Our waitress agreed not to charge us for this dish. -- Margarita Pizza - Not sure how S.H. managed to mess this up but my FIL deemed it "hopeless." -- Pasta with Chicken (not sure of the exact name) - I've had better sauce out of a Ragu jar. I wish I was kidding. -- Children's Pasta - My 9-year-old ate this with no complaints, but she loves carbs of all kind. Overcooked or not. -- Order of Bread - This was dry and flavorless. Nobody ate it. (It wasn't complimentary). Overall - We will avoid Spaghetti House like the plague. I can make better Italian food and I am a TERRIBLE cook. read more

Dishes were fine. Host was rude and didnt show us to our table, we waited about 15 minutes to even get water and i had to pull another waitress aside even to get that. I hadn't really heard of this chain before and now I can understand why. While the food is not bad as such it's a pretty average Italian restaurant and nothing too special. In terms of the food, we had the calamari, the mussels and the seafood pasta. The calamari was not the best and, while I've tried worse, it left me completely unimpressed. You pretty much needed the mayo so that it had some kind of flavour. The mussels dish was pretty good and I did enjoy it but I find it expensive for what it is. The seafood pasta was not the best either, it could have easily been one of those £2 ready meals from the supermarket, definitely not worth a restaurant price. I did quite enjoy the Sicilian lemonade though, that was quite good. Other than that the staff do try to speak a lot of Italian to make the place feel more authentic, which is quite good and the decor and atmosphere are beautiful. However, with all the choice available when it comes to Italian food you will not be missing anything if you pass up this one. read more

Racist staff and horrible horrible service. I have never felt unwelcome in this great city but this time I did. The manager is crass and a racist who has no idea how to speak to people. They walk around speaking about people in Italian as if we don't understand they're speaking about us. Just pathetic. The food does not even matter (which was bad too as my friend's salmon was raw, TWICE and instead of rectifying it they are talking down to us) if you are surrounded by such people.
