We finally made our way to Spaghetti Bender's and it was not worth the wait. It's a small friendly restaurant in the middle of town close to IUP. We were seated quickly as you just go to an open table or booth of your choice. The food and drinks came out fast and our waitress was welcoming. None of us were pleased with our food as it was disappointing. My wife got the cod romano: the cod was dry and the pasta wasn't flavorful or seasoned. I had the chicken arrabiatta: chicken was dry & chewy. The pasta had a nice spicy kick but needed more sauce to accentuate the flavor. My son got Tony's Trio: Alfredo was blah, lasagna was dry & over cooked and the chicken parmigiana was dry. My son got the brownie a la mode for dessert which they serviced on a plate: it was small and basic For a restaurant that specializes in pasta dishes, it was not what we expected. read more

I had the pleasure of eating here recently, and I will definitely be back. The food was absolutely phenomenal, especially the chicken Marsala and the wedding soup. The chicken Marsala is probably the best I've ever had. Beyond the incredible meal, I loved seeing the fresh herbs growing right in the back parking lot. I had the chance to speak with the woman who tends to them, and she was incredibly friendly and happy to chat with me about gardening. The good and the bad. First the good. Italian meatloaf was delicious. However, the side of French fries was incompatible. Now the bad: the zucchini parmesan was hard, actually burnt on the edges. Not soft, nor layered in cheese and sauce as one would expect. Who is the chef?! Worst eggplant parm ever. Service was fine. Ambiance didn't convey italian to me. Pizza is good. Today I stopped in for dinner at Spaghetti Benders with my friends and it was the experience of a lifetime. There was no live band this time, but we were happy to dine in after a nice afternoon of horseback riding. We were seated promptly by our waiter Josh and he immediately took our order for drinks. Shortly afterwards he came out with some delicious butter and bread and asked us if we would be interested in appetizers. We ordered Bruschetta with tomatoes and fresh Basil, and also the Spinach dip. These appetizers came out in lickity split time! The spinach dip almost had me crawling on the floor! It was so savory and flavorful, once you began eating it you couldn't stop. The Bruschetta was also another mouth waterer! The fresh olive oil, tomatoes& garlic seeped through your taste buds with every bite. Lets just say that these appetizers didn't last very long! For my main course I ordered Grilled Salmon , which came with a side of tomato basil pasta and a side salad. The Salmon was cooked medium well and it was oozing with flavor! The salad was super fresh, and the pasta was out of this world. We were blessed enough to receive free dessert, since a friend of ours knew the owner. I ordered a Salted Pretzel Caramel Fudge Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream and it was finger licking good! Like I have not had a dessert this good and savory in a very long time! I ate at Spaghetti Benders in Indiana tonight. I order Veal Parm and 2 take out orders of a chicken parm sandwich with fries and hot sausage sandwich no side. I explained that I wanted meat wrapped separately for the trip home and easier to heat up for my son and wife. Waitress repeated and assured me that it would be done. I ate my food was ok nothing to write home about-- unreliable suggestion. I left a very large tip because she insisted my order was right. needless to say my son got a chicken parm dinner and wife's hit sausage sandwich was put together and soggy till I got home. Plenty of extra space to socially distance dine. We were seated on the back patio and had ample space to ourselves! This is the first time since quarantine that I have genuinely felt safe dining at a restaurant. Spaghetti Benders is now my pick when catering to sensitive diets. They offer many gluten free and vegan options which can be tricky to navigate at other local restaurants. We ordered 2 Sicilian mushrooms to start and when our wonderful server (missed her name) learned that one of us was vegan, she proactively asked the kitchen to prepare an order prepared of mushrooms with olive oil in place of butter. This oversight was our fault for not asking about the preparation but she took care of our mistake for us before the food had arrived at the table. We were extremely impressed with her thoughtfulness and attention to detail! For anyone curious about the vegan option, the mushrooms were excellent prepared with olive oil as well as with butter. I love the classic house Italian salad dressing, the bread was wonderful with the mushrooms, and the spaghetti squash option was a welcomed change from the usual pasta selections at other restaurants. We were having rough days but left feeling very relaxed and happy. Looking forward to our next experience at Spaghetti Benders! read more

Spaghetti Benders is a great place for lunch or dinner if you have a hankering for some Italian fare. I've stopped here twice recently and both times my food was hot, tasty, and the service was speedy. The first time I stopped in here they had stuffed meatballs with spaghetti on special. That sounded really tasty, so I went with that. It was quite good. It was a lot of food that I couldn't finish it all. The second time I stopped in here I had the penne pasta with marinara. It was ok. It was a tad bland, but, it was simply noodles and sauce. Spaghetti Benders marinara sauce is good. I'm not sure I would say it's the best I've ever had, but it satisfies. I left with leftovers that trip too! I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. It's all pretty good. I always indulge in the fresh bread they bring to the table. It's hot and crispy and oh so good. Another added plus about this place is the price. They are very reasonably priced. And they are especially reasonably priced when compared to Donatello's restaurant, down the street. If you find yourself in Indiana and hungry for some pasta or any kind of Italian food, stop in Spaghetti Benders. You won't be disappointed! read more

Pretty bare bones restaurant bar, no frills, but has outdoor seating. Plain tables, with three distinct areas. An open table room with a bar, a dining area with booths, and a patio with porch like furniture. The atmosphere is a bit divey, but clean. Staff was friendly, but spread a little thin on the Wednesday night I was there. Had a few periods where we waited a little too long for the meal to progress. The drink menu is also very simple, larger brand breweries, with the exclusion of Iron City, a local brewery. Wine list was also short, a choice for every grape. The food quality varies based on the dish, go with the homemade recommendations from the staff. Italian wedding soup was great, they make homemade salad dressings, although I did not try a salad. The dishes at my table looked good, they have some homemade sauces and a flexible pasta, sauce, and meat option to mix and match. I had the Chicken Parm, which looked like it came from a freezer, shaped like a perfect oval... And just ok. Not bad but for $13 I don't think I got what I paid for... Overall this place seems like a good spot to drink beer and grab some homemade Italian offerings, choose wisely from the menu and don't expect a dynamic atmosphere. read more

Just ordered from there gluten free menu, for delivery via Door Dash, and its sooooo good! Baked chicken parm with GF spaghetti in tomato sauce, pasta in garlic & oil w broccoli and chicken, and Italian sausage and peppers. It came with individually wrapped slices of gluten-free bread and some butter, and salad that has gluten-free croutons. So excited to know this place is here! The price was right, but the food was terrible--the sauce was acidic and tinny, and the pasta denser than the average IUP student. To boot, they had the most indefensibly obnoxious hag working there, and I even recall their suggestion box preempting complaints for service that they knew was unacceptable. Been going here now and again when I'm in town and it's become a meal to look forward to. The food has always been spot on and fresh. The service is great as well, friendly, knowledgable and make you feel like you are being waited on. Decent selection of beer and there's usually a special of the day and for Pens games which is nice. It beats the usual suspects in town as far as restaurants go in my opinion. There's free parking in back which is convenient. Maybe skip Ruby Tuesdays this time and opt for something local and keep it in the community, not a corporation. read more

WARNING this place is a trap! NOT a four star review! I came to Spaghetti Bender's expecting a quality home made dinner that should have reminded me of my grandmother's pasta. I ate some mediocre gnocchis that were oozing dough.. Another point is that the wedding soup was all mashed and almost the consistency of oatmeal. There were no noodles in the wedding soup let me mind you. My final point...the meal does not come with complimentary garlic bread. When i went to leave i get the check and it it jack 6.56$ extra. This place is a trap. I almost had to stay and wash dishes just to pay of my meal.....all for some mediocre dough ball that were microwaved. I will never return to this restaurant... me and my husband went for dinner. I got chicken broccoli with garlic sauce. We didn't get our salads intill after our dinners got served. My dinner was so dry no flavor.. the owner came and asked what was wrong and I told him my broccoli was burnt no flavor on the pasta and dry. He told me that was a popular meal. My favorite dish is the angel hair pasta with creamy marina sauce and topped with there saute mushrooms. It's a no frills family owned Italian restaurant. Great family atmosphere and they also added a bar a few years ago. I recommend this place. They do carry a child's menu with baked fries baked chicken strips or nuggets and baked cheesesticks. My son who was really really finicky about food when he was younger loves there spaghetti, also the same thing I eat. I have always heard great things about their stuffed shells and lasagna. All of their pasta is homemade. I also love there gnocchi. Great food!! If u love Italian and haven't tried it u definitely need too!! I also love their Italian bread and garlic bread. I visited Spaghetti Benders a few months ago for lunch. The salad was great, the waiter was excellent. My concern is the quality of the pizza and the lack of attention by the owner of the business. I ordered a Margarita pizza. The menu stated the crust would be thin and crispy. When I received my pizza, the edging of the crust was crispy but the other portion of the pizza appeared and tasted very doughy and it was not crispy at all. I brought this to the attention of the waiter, he took the pizza from me and returned with the same pizza that appeared to have been put back in the oven. The outer edges were very hard and difficult to bite into. The inner part of the pizza was soggy and doughy. The attentive waiter asked if it was ok. I told him no and he could take it and I did not care for anything further. Then I get the check and there was a credit card fee listed. I questioned that and the response was,"we add this to cover the fee we are charged and if you pay cash, we will deduct the fee. This is very poor business practices. To top this whole thing off, the owner was present during the entire transaction and not once did he come to the table to apologize. Very poor business manners. read more

I grew up in Indiana and this is one of the last restaurants I haven't been to yet. I never went because I never heard anyone rave about it. There's always creepy people hanging around outside of it, and because of the name. I figure if I want Spaghetti, I'll go home and make it myself . Well my parents got a gift card for here and invited me to go with them as they have never been there before either. Walking in, my first impression was "a dated Italian restaurant". We were greeted right away and had excellent service the entire time. The menu really surprised me as then I realized this IS an Italian restaurant, not just a Spaghetti joint with a bar. The menu had a lot of tasty looking options. We got the Pepperoni Rolls and Wings as an appetizer. The pepperoni rolls were very generic and not impressive at all. The wings we got garlic butter, and they were too greasy, didn't even taste the butter or garlic. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi as a main course. I could not taste the white wine at all, which was disappointing because I cook a lot with white wine. It was very bland, especially the shrimp, had no flavor. I personally would have sauteed the garlic awhile longer in the oil. I can only eat so much bland food, so unfortunately I quit eating my dinner before I was full. So did my husband, and my parents weren't that impressed either. My husband got the Buffalo Chicken pasta, which he got tortellini instead of penne. It was very tasty, but as with Buffalo chicken dip, it was something I'd only want to eat a full bites of, not an entire main course. I'd probably use that as a size and not so much a main course. Overall impression - the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great and easily forgettable. Won't return and if someone buys my parents another gift card, I won't be surprised if they regift it! read more
