Flavio's is a classic Sicilian steakhouse that was started 50 years ago. It's living up to its name the 74 year old chef can only prepare so many meals in the night so expect to call an advance for reservations. With 50 years of experience (he and his wife own this place), you can take advantage of the twilight of his career and the height of his experience. Flavio's is a dress-up sit-down fine dining experience. It was clean, with ample parking in its private lot next door. Lots of one-way roads so be aware of that. We arrived at 4:55. Could not go inside until 5:05. We had reservations. The place started to fill up to 50% capacity (10 tables total, maybe 20 could be fit if needed) around 6:30pm. Somehow we left around 7:45pm, even though our main course was finished at 6:30pm. This is an experience, not a quick bite to eat. There is a bar but you can't just walk in and go there. Everyone was seated in the dining room, which has two parts. My 79 -year old father was told that this was the best filet mignon in the entire United States and I agree that it is very well done perfectly medium rare at request with a crusty exterior and perfect grill marks. The seafood and gnocci pasta plate looked amazing but was enjoyed by someone else at our table, but it looked really good. Everything has an upcharge so expect to drop some cash. Get the Petite Syrah no 48 wine to compliment your dinner. You won't regret it. We had the seasoned potatos, it's OId Bay seasoning, similar to steak fries but made from a baked potato. Very nice. We had the broccoli, it was wonderful. I had the caeser salad, it was fine. Lots of cheese and anchovies are an option. We had it with our meal. Upcharge $5 ... People liked the italian dressing on their house salads but it was nothing spectacular or memorable. Upcharge $5 .. they also offer the classic "Wedge" salads as an option for $7. The standard marinara was nothing to write home about. My wife complained her Chicken Provencial was too sweet. Her side of penne alla marinara was boring. The gnocci was great though. Have the gnocci. For my side, I paid an upcharge of $7.50. The spaghetti or linguine or whatever it was was obviously a prepped reheat, whereas the gnocci were made on the spot, and the penne is the standard side so at least it was made that night. I had the puttanesca. It had too many onions, but the olives were nice. My default choices were penne or gnocci with marinara, or a potato (baked or "seasoned" as fried sticks). Dessert: We shared a piece of cheesecake with the table, and it tastes like tiramisu. I had to force the rest of it down since no one would finish it. It had a spongy tiramisu-like bottom and was flavored of lemons. I suspect it was made in house. My wife had the Spumoni. She liked it but didn't finish it. I had the Jamaican Coffee (liquor coffee drink). It was fine but overall not necessary to finish your meal and very sweet. We had the oysters (broiled). Good. I personally like them "on the half shell" but no one was willing. 6 oysters. We had the shrimp cocktail. Nice shrimp, great horse radish. 5 shrimp. We tipped well. Over 30% because how much longer this place will be in operation is anyone's guess. It's possible, if you are choosy, to spend less than $50 on your meal but we spent well over that each. Four people $313 with a lot of upcharges and top-end dishes, a bottle of Syrah, 1 beer, desserts and three apps and everyone got a salad (cost extra). Oh yeah the bread. It was fine. Reminiscent of "Mancini's" .. hard crust fluffy airy interior. Was not the most amazing bread but it fit the place. read more

This place never disappoints. It is an outstanding restaurant that has a huge selection of veal. The veal dishes are amazing! I always get the veal piccata. It is so amazing!! They have an excellent warm lump crab appetizer that is to die for. So delicious and so fresh. Make sure you call in advance for reservations since they are short staffed. Always pleasant owners and waitresses. Decor takes me back in time which I love. This is one of my favorite places!! Carol makes an excellent cosmo! I highly recommend this place! I really wish I would have taken photos of the food and drinks but I was to busy devouring everything !!!!! We started with a crab appetizer and It was melt in your mouth delicious, I had the veal piccata , and it was the best I've EVER had!!! Doesn't look like much when you pass by but when I read the reviews we had to give this place a try. We aren't from the area, as we had just got off the lake, and just walked in. As many establishments during these trying times, they require reservations because of staffing. Thank goodness the had a cancellation and were able to accommodate us right away. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Now for the food. My husband ordered the wedding soup, which he wasn't a fan of at all. We ordered the shrimp parmigiana appetizer and it was absolutely delicious! A must get! My wedge salad was very good. He order the veal saltimbocca that he really enjoyed. And I wanted to try their tomato vodka sauce so I chose the fettuccine noodles and was very satisfied. The noodles were fresh and they dressed the pasta with fresh basil. We were stuffed and had to box left over to take home. This place is certainly worth a try. So happy we took the time to stop. And as far as the 60s decor, we found it charming and made it more authentic! read more

Our server was new & wasn't familiar with the menu re; wine to dinner. Nice girl & trying hard! Not a busy place but the menu is antiquated! Had the shrimp Parmesan in garlic butter sauce that I had to save from drowning! Husband had a same old chicken Romano I could have had anywhere else! Nothing special. We were told by several of our friends that we needed to try Flavio's over the last few years. We finally scheduled a date night with friends last night and we were not disappointed. The service was top-notch and the food was incredible. I had a strip steak cooked to perfection and my wife has chicken romano also prepared perfectly. Heres why this is a 2 star, ownership, plain and simple. The food is expensive, but good, really good, 4 star plus. Then, you get to try and get it. The last time, and you will note the LAST TIME, we went here, we had reservations for 6:45, and arrived at 6:30, so, were told we had to wait at the bar, and my wife and I don't do bars, but, we were early, so. Our time rolls around, and we are informed the large 6 oclock reservation group has arrived AFTER the large 6:30 group, and that we are going to have to wait for a table, while they struggle to take care of the TWO large groups that have arrived at the same time. Now, why you don't tell the half hour plus late group to wait until THEIR tables open up after the later reservations have been seated, I don't understand, except for MONEY. So, we wait until after 7 to get a seat, and when we do, we are told WE CAN'T ORDER FOOD, because the owner doesn't know if there will be enough left to fill our orders.... SERIOUSLY, not enough food on hand???? So, I suggest we get our salads, and wait until the food count is verified, and the waitress apologizes profusely, and tells us, we can't order salads, because the owner is afraid we will walk out if they are out of food. And I felt bad for the girl, because all she was seeing was her tip going up in pissed off customer smoke. FINALLY at 7:40, they agree to bring us a dinner salad, along with about 10 tables that have been seated in the last five minutes. At 8:00, an hour and half after we arrrive, we get our salads, and so do other tables that have been sitting for ten minutes. Never again, not if they make the best surf and turf on the planet. Nothing, can ever repay what was a completely humiliating wait, while they served idiots who couldn't arrive on time. read more

I enjoy a variety of dishes but honestly have NEVER been disappointed at Flavio's. If I had to pick a favorite it's petite fillet cooked to perfection and crab cakes. The food is fantastic! However, the past two times I've called to make a reservation, I've heard about how they don't know if they can fit us in because they only have one cook and he is hurt and now they don't have enough servers. I wanted a table for two at 6:00 and they don't know if they can take us? I also wanted to reserve two filets ( we went their twice before they were sold out of what we wanted, so they told us to reserve the filets when we made our reservations). Now I'm told "sorry, we only get meat on Wednesdays and they won't reserve them? We can maybe do the small ones but not the large ones." No, we want to reserve the larger filets, we are paying for them, that is what we want. Maybe I'll try again next year. Waitress was new. Wedding soup didn't have much flavour. Our meals were tasty (veal Marsala and chicken alfredo). This was supposed to be a date. The entire time people were filling a 1 inch decrease of our water, clearing plates and at 2 different points as I was in conversation with my husband, our waitress asked us how our meal was. Husband and I stopped in for first time and it couldn't have been better. I had spaghetti and red clam sauce and he had same with white clam sauce. Came with a medium sized loaf of fresh baked bread. You could tell the sauces were all fresh ingredients perfectly made. Service was outstanding and attentive. I'm from a household of good Italian cooks and I loved my meal- better than grandmas. Inside has an old restaurant look that felt so comfortable and I hope never updates. Will be bringing another couple to dinner here soon. read more

Our reservation was for 6:30. We understand the food is cooked to order, but the dinners ordered at 7:00 arrived at 8PM. 2 were incorrect. The busser cleared the entire table at 8:45 including the silverware. We were then offered desert, but since they closed in 15 minutes and we had no silverware, we were ready to leave. The only explanation from the manager for the 1-1/2 hour wait for the dinner was that because we didn't order the soup or salad to fill the time gap. We had been there multiple times before, but never have seen this degradation in the management of service. Sorry they do not wish to bring in new clientel. read more

Extremely nice family owned restaurant in Apollo! I am all about family owned, non chain places. We had 2 seafood appetizers (crab barsac - awesome) and 2 seafood entrees that were EXTREMELY good (crab cakes and shrimp with homemade pasta). The hostess was incredibly nice... server was great. Owner was inviting at the bar and gave us great breakdown on the homemade items on the menu. We drove 30 min to get there based on a recommendation. Very nice and would for sure go back! My husband and I just ate there for our anniversary. Food was delicious. The shrimp Cocktail was huge and perfectly chilled. The house salad was full of goodies like black and green olives and beets, very fresh as was the dressing. The Filet was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth! My husband ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and loved it! The wait staff was very nice and efficient! The bartender makes the best martinis!!! Highly recommend!!!! read more

My boyfriend and i went to dinner here on a recommendation from a coworker otherwise i never would have stopped because of where it is located. You walk in and it has a very old school restaurant feel to it. The italian music playing in the background and table clothes and linen napkins in the dining room. To my surprise, the food was bangin'. We both got filets which were prime grade and well worth the price. Perfectly cooked to how we ordered them and the flavor was excellent. I got the smaller filet and crab cake. The crab was jumbo lump and not much filler. It had a nice flavor and was about 4 ounces in size. Make sure you get the homemade gnocchi!! Holy cow that was a surprise. My boyfriend finished his meal with their homemade cheesecake. Huge portion and very good from the bite i got of it. The only con i have is the service really wasnt good. We waited to be sat for about 5 minutes. There was no hostess at the stand when we arrived. Our waitress was very inexperienced. She couldn't even properly carry a tray let alone multi task more than one table. She forgot alot of things and was very slow but she was friendly and eventually got us what we needed. I would totally recommend this place to anyone. The prices are more expensive than most anywhere in the area but totally worth it. Just keep in mind they do have limited hours and days. This is an outstanding restaurant that I highly recommend. I have had many things on the menu but now, I always get the Strip Steak or the Filet. I know the owner/Chef is exacting in his selection of meat served at Flavios and I have always gotten an excellent meal. The steak is truly as good as I have ever eaten in any restaurant, anywhere in the world. I also love the Crab Barsac. I soak my homemade bread in the left over butter and garlic sauce. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE...Food is ok...nothing great. I have eaten at much better restaurants...Hoffstots in Oakmont far surpasses this restaurant. We were there for 3 1/2 hours..they billed us for items we did not order....mixed up the credit cards for several people at the table. The bills were still wrong when we left...the bad service ruined the celebration. I would will never return. read more
