I came to AJ's to grab some take out in between jobs. The restaurant sits just on the outskirts of Vandergrift and I passed by it often. There is a nice bar area as well as some seating. The staff was really friendly with a home town feel. I had a good conversation with the servers and the owner. For the food, I got an Italian Hoagie and wow, what a good sandwich. we have been there a couple of times and have always enjoyed! we have had breakfast good.

AJ's has quickly become one of my family's favorite restaurants....both because of the excellent food and the beyond excellent people. I drive from about an hour away to take my son next-door to Pride Wrestling, and many of those days my daughter will take four hours out of her day to ride along just because she wants to go to AJ's. The wings are the best wings you will eat anywhere. That is not an exaggeration. They are big and juicy and perfectly cooked. The Mini Drew is fantastic, and there is nothing Mini about it. I haven't braved the super Dru yet, though that day is coming... The owners and staff are absolutely terrific people, and even if the food was not as good as it is... I would go there anyway to support their business. You won't find nicer people. read more

Had the pork chop special. Prepared perfectly...seasoned with wing seasoning by request. Broccoli was spot on.

So far I can vouch for the burger and the chicken Thai wrap (not ordered at the same time just so you know). The burger was quite good but the Thai wrap was to die for it was so good. It happened to be the special of the day. The servers are attentive and pleasant. Most recently, my server was Lexie (spelling?) and she was an absolute sweetheart taking care of me from ordering to paying. The downsides are the prices -- quite pricey for lunch. My chicken Thai wrap, a soft drink, and cole slaw tab was nearly $11. That's a price I can't spend very often for lunch but, oh, was the meal good. One other downside is the ambience -- it's so gloomy and dark inside as it has no windows. For lunch, ideally I want to get away from the office in a bright and "happy" place to rejuvinate... Oh, well.... that Thai wrap and Lexie's cheerfulness almost made me forget about the gloom and dark quarters. read more

Best wings in ever!! I can't vouch for any of the other food because I can't pass up getting wings every time I'm in town. My parents have been buying these wings since i was a little kid. I remember when I was to stubborn to eat them :-P. Anyways, 25 years later and I still love them! A bit pricey for Vandergrift food(if you get the wings), but overall the pricing is pretty standard. read more

I don't understand how people can't like this place. This is THE place to go to in Vandergrift, PA to eat lunch. I still remember the first time our office ordered from this place - it was the first day I was an intern in the office. I've never seen so many grown men order salad - I was seriously confused. I must have ordered a sandwich or something but I was perplexed - until I saw the salads! They are AMAZING. They're huge, they have fries in them, and they're probably one of the best salads (albeit probably not that healthy) I've had. To be honest, I don't think I've ever paid for a meal here (typically comp-ed by work) but I would gladly go back for the salad. read more

The truth is that if you're dining in the KV you need to keep you expectations low. I decided on 4 stars based on that if this was in pgh it would be 3 or less, but locally it's a 5+. I've only been here twice but heres the skinny: the drew sandwich might be one of the best things I've ever had. In addition the wings really are that good even if they are sold in the local way (whole wings sold at "market price", whatever that means) but what stands out is that they are baked after they are fried. Give them a try! Also, unless you're local you'll love the prices. Drafts are cheap and a scotch on the rocks (Glenlivet on the rocks) was completely full and only $5. If you have to eat or hang in the Kiski valley, this is as good as its going to get. read more

Chicken Wings have exceeded 20 bucks a dozen here, food is ok, management can be bland at times, especially the male owner, a roaring Mr. Personality....NOT. Also, noisy as hell, small bar, and seating and the music blows you out at times. More of a niche bar for the people who hang out and work in the grift. IE, if you not part of the local crowd, looking to hang out with other locals, don't bother. read more

I've been to AJs several times and I'm truly surprised at the great food they offer in this small town. It's one of the top 3 places to eat here! They take bar food up a notch and the decor is nice. I've taken my kids here to eat without the feeling of "I took my kids to the bar..."! read more

Personally, I'm not impressed. This is supposed to be one of the towns foremost restaurants. The salads are nothing spectacular, and dressing selection is quite limited. The potato skins are terrible, it's like they poured cheese whiz in there. The wings are pretty good, the owners aren't that friendly. read more

We really enjoy this place! Food is delicious and they have a list of specialty adult beverages that fit the season which I love, because I hate beer. On top of the food really great the staff is amazing as well! My waitress not only took care of us, but took care or my fussy daughter. Not only did the waitress take care of her, but the owner did as well. My daughter (who can be a very difficult 1 year old) started to cry she came over picked her up fed her cheese took her with her, she was amazing! Thank you very much!!! On ordering my food I was not told of the specials. The same waitress was able to tell other tables specials. In fact she was able to socialize for a few minutes with a table that wasn't hers. I Ordered a bacon cheeseburger and wasn't even ask if I wanted it rare, medium or well done. The fries were hard and I had gravy on them they were still hard. The service from this waitress was the poorest, I've had in years. When another family of 3 came in after i did and was served before me, from a different waitress. This was the icing on the cake. This is what my first trip to this restaurant and is probably my last! Dinner for 2 was $50 dollars and poor service and semi decent food. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant to my family or friends. read more

Outstanding!!! The wings, the steaks, the lobster tail, I could go on! Even our kids were raving about their kids meals!!! The service was literally the best we have ever had!! Our waitress was so kind, and had everything to our table fast and exactly as ordered. We went for an early dinner and both the owner and our waitress entertained our toddler to let my husband and I enjoy our meal, a luxury we don't have at home! You cannot find service like this anywhere else! The environment is cozy and tasteful, perfect for date night! We can't wait to go back! read more

Very disappointed!! Our waitress ruined our evening out. She never introduced herself, who does that? Waitress 101 right there. She started off by saying i am going to be awhile, what do you want to drink? Granted she had a larger table and a 2 or 3 others but its not a huge place so any seasoned server shouldn't have to much of an issue. The table that was sat after us got friendly great service from the other waitress working. She told them a whole speal of specials. Supposedly it was Mexican night...who knew? Ohh but our server had several opportunities to go and chat with the woman at that table, imagine that.We didnt even got told the soup of the day. After we got our drinks we waited a good 10 to 15 minutes for her to come back to us. We gave her our order of apps and entrees. I ordered horseradish sauce with my breaded mushrooms. I had to ask well after i got the mushrooms for the sauce again. Drink refills? Whats that? I waited another 15 minutes for a refill of wine that she said was coming 2 times before i got it. Who serves pasta with no spoon? AJ's does. Thats just unheard of! My chicken parm looked like a prebreaded store bought freezer to fryer johnny. Very disappointing. The bread was stale and the most abundant vegetable on my salad was thick sliced onion. I wasnt even finished with my meal before she was asking if we wanted anything else and brought the check. Way to push out a customer because you are over your shift and want to be done. $50 for dinner for 2 and i think i would have had better service at mcdonalds. Such a shame because i am all for supporting local business. Dont waste your time or money. read more

The food was mediocre bar food at best. I saw a rat on my journey to the bathroom. I was understandably disgusted but decided to keep quiet and leave with all haste. Once seated and really uncomfortable already, I had the pleasure of hearing someone screaming at his staff. Really, I wouldn't want to do anything for a guy like that either. I pity the fools that work there and I'm sure anyone competent would leave between the rats and the jerks just like I did. read more
