Check in was super easy and parking is easy right on the property. I easily sent her an email to book. The views are really gorgeous, overlooking the reservoir and Catskill mountains. Can't beat it if you go in October and catch foliage ! It's actually closer to NYC than some other places in the Valley. We stayed in the Meadow Suite which has a spacious bathroom and super comfortable bed. Anne Marie provides wine glasses and an opener. Also appreciated the space heater because some nights were chilly. I believe there is a hot tub if you rent the other suite. Anne Marie gave us some firewood to lit a fire one night, the property has a fire bowl, and pavilion where you can eat a great breakfast. We got breakfast one day - Anne Marie delivered that and coffee right outside our door. My husband had a delicious farm egg omelette with sautéed veggies and melted cheese, along with chicken sausage and toast. She prepared a crafty apple French toast for me with raisin cinnamon bread and chicken sausage. Yum yum yum. She's very accommodating, but definitely get the French toast! In Mid Oct, it was about $200 a night per stay. Definitely recommend this if in the area! We hung around Big Indian, Phonecia and did activities up in Hunter Mountain. Woodstock is also very nearby.

It was, as expected, the most relaxing and fun few days.... And was definitely needed after our big day. Anne Marie is a wonderful host, and her stuffed blueberry French toast is the stuff of legend. There are plenty of places for hiking, antiquing, tubing, eating, or anything else your heart could desire relatively nearby, and Anne Marie will provide you with recommendations that do not disappoint no matter what you want to do. We have only stayed in the reservoir suite, but I'm sure the other suites are equally amazing. I can't recommend Ashokan Dreams enough if you're looking for a relaxing stay at a charming place with unbelievable views of the mountains and reservoir right through your window. It retains the charm of an older estate but with modern amenities. For example, during our wedding weekend, it was extremely hot outside, so we were somewhat limited in doing outdoor activities during the day. Regardless, we were able to enjoy ourselves inside, with the spacious rooms, ample seating and indoor activities, and music throughout the space. We also had a great time doing karaoke! We loved that guests who wanted to go to sleep early could. The upstairs rooms are private, quiet and well-air-conditioned. And we loved that they each had their own bathroom! We also appreciated Henrietta, Matt and their team's efforts to make sure the catered dinner was a success. The food was incredible. We loved having the option to pick from so many dishes, and all of them were fantastic. Having them handle everything allowed us to just focus on the wedding and enjoy spending time together. Maybe the thing we appreciated most of all was how quickly they dealt with any requests or (minor) issues that came up. They felt like our partners throughout the weekend, responding quickly to questions and never making us feel like we were burdening them. At the end of the weekend, a few attendees remarked that they were thinking about doing a future event at Vanderbilt, because they loved it so much. Hera is very kind and accommodating and helps as little or as much as you'd like. The water in the guest rooms and kitchen smells like sulfur/farts/rotten eggs. I mean, it's extreme. Very, very extreme. All of the rooms have Jacuzzi's, and I just can't imagine submerging myself in one of those tubs with the smell of the water. Peeee-yew! 2. The venue is beautiful, but it's really up to the renters to make it what they want it. It takes a *lot* of work to set things up (benches for the ceremony, room for the reception, etc.), so you have to be prepared to put some sweat into the space. That being said, it was totally worth it to work hard. My cousin's wedding ended up being the most beautiful wedding I've been to in my life. It was also great to be able to rent out all of the guest rooms for the wedding party so we were all together. There's a giant/modern kitchen so you can cook or keep things cold in the fridge. All of the other living spaces are so totally kitschy. There are artifacts and knickknacks and weird things all over the place. I can't even begin to describe some of the things you'll find in the guest spaces...that's really part of the fun of staying here! Anyway, the landscaping is beautiful. And there are fainting goats! And a pig named Victoria! And chickens! And bunnies running everywhere. And you can have firewood delivered so you can make a bonfire and cook s'mores. Really I can't say enough about what a nice space this is. Hopefully one day everyone can rent out the rooms again and we can celebrate one of their anniversaries!

After about the umpteenth 'now what' it sadly felt like this small-minded, sidewinder approach was what they thought was smart business.

BRIDES BEWARE: Hidden Fees, and unprofessional coordinator Parker…read more Renting the basilica for your wedding is very expensive, $13k expensive, but what they don't disclose is that $13k is just the start of the fees they will randomly hit you with. If you're like me and money is valuable to you, then please keep reading before you book. Here is a *short* list of all the ways Parker at Basilica scams you: -1) First contract included a caveat that IF basilica gets a liquor license within 6 months you must pay them and undisclosed amount for alcohol. Parker refused to give us an amount to budget for this secret clause. -2) Next issue was when Parker rented out the Friday of our wedding without telling us the amount we would receive back. She promised us we'd "split" the cost which would mean $6k, but in reality we only received $2k back, and the Friday bride still paid the full amount. When we said no, we were told it's too late to go back and she wouldn't even issue us a new contract detailing out the change because she didn't have time. At this point we knew our contract meant nothing. -3) Third issue was when we wanted to bring in all our own rentals, including lights, since of course the lights are extra. Parker told us it would cost us a fee to remove the lights, and that we had to pay to rent the lights from her. -4) Fourth issue was after we just gave in to paying for lights that we couldn't take down, we decided to add on tables. We originally ordered 20 to be safe but we got our final count and only needed 15. Parker told us we couldn't change the tables because the Friday bride needed more. -5) One week before our wedding, we were then told we owed tax on the rentals for the lights and table rentals, even after we had her confirm there were no more incremental hidden fees. -6) Lastly our "refundable" security deposit apparently contains a $400 non-refundable cleaning fee which we also found out days before the wedding. I pray that the Basilica hires a new, professional coordinator so no other couple has to go what we went through. Good luck!!

After a solid 10 minutes without so much as an hello from a server, we finally got the same person who had initially snarled at us come to our table. She proceeded to take the umbrella down from the hot sun claiming it was windy. It was not windy at all. This person was simply horrible and a poor reflection on what seemed like a decent menu. We left, hungry and feeling somewhat abused. Big thumbs down.
