Walked in on a Tuesday evening. Place was quiet and clean. Technician was kind and did a nice job on a no chip. Precision cuticle removal, attention to nail shape and didn't aggressively file away or overuse products. The color selection is ok. Sort of muted for my taste but assorted enough. The best part is the price. $29 special, which she mentioned would be ongoing, is at least 10 bucks cheaper than others in the area. I saved some money and didn't have to sacrifice the quality or on the experience. Worth a try! Also, I swear the sign said Strong City and not Spa City. read more

If i could, I would rate this place zero stars. This is not my usual place. Normally I go to Tang Nails on Skokie BLVD. I was only here because my company was providing us with complimentary mani and padis. First, I had a pedicure on my toes that was about 3 weeks old. I didn't require a lot of scrubbing, however I did need a little. I was so lightly scrubbed that my feet look the same as they went in apart from the color. Second, I didn't have polish on my nails, I removed my no chip from Tang Nails. When the girl asked what shape, I asked for a pointed oval. She tild me they only do they "natural nail shape". I said okay, round. Some of my nails are round, some a square. She didn't buff my nails, so I have lumps in my polish. She asked me to pick a different color for my fingers because the polish, which was JUST used on my toes, was too think..... When I finally sat down, after picking another color, the owner was going to polish my nails. She was so preoccupied that she wasn't painting my entire nail. I had to move my finger and hope she saw it, in order to get my whole nail painted. Nevertheless, I have some nails partly painted. I understand they were busy because we had about 60 people with appointments. However, this wasn't a free service. My company is most likely paying 5k for this shitty job. Also, for a place that os so overpriced, you'd expect a better job. I pay 45 for a NO-CHIP and pedi at Tang Nails. This place has a special on a regular mani and pedi on Tuesday's for 45.... I guess of you appreciate money, and how hard you work for it, dont waste it here. Such a disappointing experience. The only thing I enjoyed was the pedi chair.... I walked into this nail spa on several recommendations from other women. It lived up to my expectations. Tracy is the owner and is very sweet and accommodating. She even picked my polish color out for me. The Dazzle, quick dry, polish is a game changer. I was out of there in 20 min. Very calming salon. Very clean. Will be coming back often. I have been telling myself for months that I would never return to Spa Nail City. I continued to return because the prices are unbeatable, but after today, I'm positive that I'd rather spend the money at a salon. This place is AWFUL. I went in for a mani/pedi a few hours before closing, and everyone was dying to get out of there. The employees were shamelessly arguing about who could leave first, despite the fact that they weren't supposed to close for hours. Let me tell you: it is certainly uncomfortable to enter an establishment and discover that the entire staff would rather be anywhere else. The manicurist was on her cell phone the whole time. Since she was paying almost no attention to her job, she scratched the polish and proceeded to layer more paint over it, which practically peeled off. A few times, she picked at my cuticles with her fingers, as if she didn't have sanitary instruments designed to cut them. The pedicurist painted my toenails but did nothing more to my feet, which is fine, but it's also the bare minimum. In fact, it is precisely the bare minimum that defines the service ethic of Spa Nail City. When I mistakenly exited without leaving a tip, the pedicurist chased me into the street to ask for it. Honestly, my head was in the clouds, and I'm glad that she reminded me, but I did have to wonder: where was all that effort and attention to detail 30 painful minutes ago? This place is unprofessional, poorly staffed, and sloppy. If there's any merit to the saying that you get what you pay for, do yourself a favor: pay more, get more. read more

I've been here once before for a manicure and had a decent experience. The woman who did my nails was really nice and my nails looked decent. So, I decided to come back to try a no chip manicure and pedicure. The Good: the woman doing my nails was pretty nice and did help me when I had to return later to get things fixed. Massage part was good. The Bad: lack of cleanliness. No liners in tubs, tools didnt appear to come from autoclave, chairs were stained...place just doesnt give off a super clean vibe. Pedicure was quick and my feet pretty much looked the same after as they did when i came in with the addition of sloppy polish. Polish was missing on some sides of nails while on the skin on others. Nails werent buffed correctly so there are bumps under some of the polish. Some nails also had the color bleed or got smudged. Manicure was even worse. I specifically asked the tech not to cut my cuticles yet she started hacking away anyway. She cut a few of my fingers to the point that i was bleeding (and still was having issues hours later). She apologized and seemed to sincerely feel bad but when i said dont cut it I meant dont cut it... She also didnt use the same system across products (no chip manicures SHOULD consist of using the same brand base, color, top, and ideally lamp). This is because the systems are designed to work with their brands products. This mixing of systems thing that some salons do is not good and can result in poor outcomes for the service/client. This is part of why my final result felt gummy/rubbery and the lamps felt super hot. Polish is done and i have to run out pretty quickly to make another appt. Total for the 2 services was $75 plus tip- seemed a bit excessive given the atmosphere and service level but fine. When I had a chance to actually look at my nails (maybe 10 min later) I noticed how bad they looked. Polish was uneven, streaks, colors not uniform, color on skin, bumps under polish, and it was tacky from her not using alcohol at the end. I walked back over to see if I could get it changed. The woman agreed to fix it and change the color (she had no clients then or coming so she did have time). She explained that the color I chose was known to streak (thanks for explaining on front end?!) so we decided to change colors to something lighter (at least if it was still sloppy it wouldnt be as noticeable i hoped). She redoes the polish and its just ok but by this point i needed to get home. My fingers looked like someone had taken a hacksaw to them though- very irritated, some bleeding a bit too. The woman was very apologetic though and i did appreciate her trying to fix things. I just think no chips are not their strong suit. I went to leave and the owner (not women who did my nails) yells at me to pay an additional $20! I was shocked... Even the woman who did my nails kept apologizing and said she felt so bad and i shouldnt be being charged. I was there because the $90 I spent 20 min. earlier resulted in a bad mani/pedi and now im supposed to pay more because I used a different color? I had no choice because the person doing my nails wasnt able to do the service with the color I wanted! Anyway, I paid because I didnt want the woman who did my nails to get in trouble or to have the owner make a scene. But I would never set foot in that place again after what happened. All said and done I spent $110 for a sloppy pedicure, 3 cut up/bleeding fingers, and poorly applied polish. The woman who did my nails was very sweet but i have no idea how she works for the owner based on how she treats clients. Based on other reviews it sounds like she isnt very nice to employees either. Really too bad. Steer clear of this place. There are too many other nail salons around to stick with one like this. read more

I don't even know where to start....Let's see, the manicurist ate while doing my manicure. Then in the middle of my hand massage she would stop, wipe her nose on the back of her hand and then go right back to massaging my hand. The employees who were not working would sit with their bare feet up on the customers chairs as they yawned, ate and talked on their cell phones. To make matters worse, when I was getting my pedicure I specifically asked for my nails to be cut a particular way to avoid future infection and the employee just did not listen. She continued doing the pedicure her way until I had to practically yell at her twice to stop what she was doing. I have been going to Spa City Nails for a while now, and I have NEVER had a bad experience. The place has been there for years and has the most reasonable prices. Jennifer is the owner and works hard to keep up with the trends and most current nail colors. I have always observed the place being VERY clean and organized. It is obvious Jennifer and the staff ensure everything is sanitized and disinfected properly; neither myself or my friend I bring with me for mani/pedis have ever had an issue. My mani/pedi's last a long time and they give the BEST massages, EVER!! My legs, feet, hands, and neck always feel great after my time at Spa Nail City! I also enjoy her staff! They have always been very polite and professional with me and my friends. I will continue being a loyal customer and bring my good friends with me and refer others to this professional, clean, and great place! read more

I am so surprised to hear anything negative at all about Spa Nail City Winnetka. I've never had anything but a lovely, relaxing experience here. There are more than enough nail salons in town, but this is by far the best of them. The inside is always very clean with relaxing classical music playing. I've tried no chip manicures other places that have never lasted more than a week, while my no chip from Spa Nail City always stays put until I remove it. In fact, they do such a meticulous job, that even my regular manicure lasts for more than a week. The nail technicians are always pleasant with a smile and a kind word even when they are very busy. I had a great experience at Spa Nail City. Jennifer the owner was very nice and was free to give me an excellent manicure. I enjoyed talking to her about her business and past life experiences. All the technicians were friendly and attentive to each customer. I like that they have a very private section with a few pedicure chairs. This is the WORST "spa" ever! My daughter and her well-mannered teenage friends all had mani-pedi appointments before a big school dance. They were excited to go in together. The owner, however, completely ignored one of the girls and squeezed in an adult client WITHOUT an appointment ahead of her. The poor girl had to wait an hour. The next time, I went in with a gift certificate. When I checked out and asked if tip was included, the owner denied it....that is, until I pointed out the small handwritten tip note on the certificate. The most recent (and final) experience is when my daughter called to see if she could extend the date of another mani-pedi gift certificate because she broke her index finger. Without hesitation, the owner said "no." That's it. 3-strikes and you (Spa Nail City) are out. There are SO many other wonderful nail places in Winnetka, Wilmette and Glencoe. This is the worst place to get your nails done in Winnetka. I have never had such a horrible experience at any nail place as this one. Jennifer (who I believe was owner) was rude and tried to kiss a** at the same time. The lady who did my nails did a terrible job by painting all over my skin and making sure to notify me that she would clean it up afterwards which, she did a horrible job as well, the polish was on my cuticles and the sides of my fingers, the polish bubbled and looked old when she was cleaning the brush off. It was just overall terrible. Not to mention, Jennifer was yelling or being extremely bossy to the woman who did my nails to clean off the brush from the clear coat, too. Then when it was time to pay, Jennifer gave me less change than what I was supposed to receive, and I felt weird asking but luckily she gave me the extra change she owed me and tried to apologize by saying she didn't know what service I received (which if you didn't know shouldn't you ask?). Overall, this place is just the worst at polishing nails and just the environment in general. Do yourself a favor and go else where. read more
