Rigby Island and New Pointe pizza
Patricia B.

The restaurants in Deltaville were full at 8pm on a Friday night in early October which was unexpected, so our group of five friends drove to Mathews to get pizza. We called and ordered ahead, a Rigby Island pizza and a New Pointe pizza. When we arrived they were getting ready to close but the staff said we could sit on the porch to eat which was super nice of them. They served us drinks and dessert as if we had ordered for dine in. We were so happy to have such friendly and welcoming service since it was so late. Our waiter Michael was wonderful and we will certainly be back. That buttermilk parmesan dressing they have is worth the drive.

Great place to eat, fast service, nice casual atmosphere. We got the Big Island and Berkely 8 inch pizzas and the bang bang shrimp appetizer which I highly recommend.

Cute little restaurant in the middle of the cute town center of Mathews. Not a huge menu, which I love because normally it means the food is fresh. This was definitely the case for Southwinds! Family friendly atmosphere and very laid back. While we weren't in the mood for pizzas, the menu changed our minds. The Caribbean Jerk Chicken pizza hit the spot! Great service and overall experience!

Crab cake sandwich

*3.5/5 Let me preface: my crab cake sandwich was delicious. Filling. Scrumptious. Insert all other positive adjectives. Satisfying to the point that I'd give Southwind Pizza a strong 4 stars if not for the subpar service. I get it -- I've worked in the service industry before, it's hard to be smiley and cheery all the time. Standoffish service? It happens. But it's also hard to ignore the fact that we were a group of POC in a town that proudly flew Confederate battle flags on their streets. I'm not trying to assert anything or the other, but yeah, it was a thought in my mind. Not factoring this into the score, since I'm not sure how much control Southwind has over this, but the water had the weirdest aftertaste.

blueberry lemon cake after the ride home, delicious

we were in the area and needed a lunch break. gave the Southwind Cafe a try. we had our little pupper with us and they have outdoor seating in the shade. Morgan quickly came out to greet us and take our order. our dog got a bowl of water. we decided to try the pizzas. we did the big island and the tangier island. they were delicious. they are cut into 4 slices but we only could finish 3 each. as long as we were taking home the other slices we had to add some cake for later. so we took home a slice of lemon blueberry and a slice of carrot cake. they were amazing. its good to know I have a go to place for food when I am in the area. you have to stop in here. friendly service, small town kindness and great food.

I got the tuna melt for brunch. It was fine but a bit overpriced for what you get. There were no sides. I will likely not be back.

Also, we booked the reservation for 7:30 PM and, even though they closed at 8 PM, they still graciously accepted my reservation and provided us with the most outstanding service. I ordered the low country skillet, which was like a seafood boil with sausage on top of cheesy grits with a side of green beans. It was delicious and hearty. I recommend ordering this dish, especially since our server deemed it as one of the restaurants signature dishes. I also had a glass of Malbec red wine, pair of quite nicely with my meal. One of the other guests ordered the corn dip, which had a side of pita chips to dip into. The corn dip was slightly thick and sweet, with a few slices of avocado sitting on top. Also delicious. Highly recommend this place if you are craving a New American cuisine with a southern twist.

I would have liked more crust on my scallops and the soba accompaniment was over cooked and I couldn't eat much of it. A gluey mush. Overall was OK and would return but order something else.

We shared a dinner portion of oysters plus a Chesapeake burger, both of which were perfectly prepared. The oysters were huge and succulent with a very light breading. They were accompanied by fries and Cole slaw, with cocktail and tartar sauce on the side. The burger was cooked medium rare as I requested, and was especially tasty since it was topped with lump crab meat, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. I got it with sweet potato fries, which were dusted with a touch of cinnamon and were a perfect side kick for the burger. We ended up taking home about half of each meal because we wanted to leave room for ice cream It just seems wrong to leave a well-preserved early 20th century diner with a soda fountain and counter seating without having some sort of ice cream! We were pretty full, so we shared a hot fudge sundae, which was definitely big enough for us both. It had vanilla ice cream, a generous portion of hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts, and two cherries (since we were sharing). We had a choice of wet nuts or peanuts, and I chose peanuts, as the salty flavor is a nice complement to the sweetness of the rest. Overall, we enjoyed this visit and hope to come back. I'd like to try the Caprese Burger and maybe have more oysters. They offer gluten free buns as an option, which is a helpful touch as well. Whether you live in Matthews or are just traveling through, it's worth a stop.

Don't…read morelet the unassuming exterior fool you--this cozy little restaurant may be small, but it delivers in a BIG way! We arrived a little early for our reservation, and the staff was incredibly welcoming. They seated us right away and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu without feeling rushed. The food was unbelievably fresh, beautifully prepared, and absolutely delicious! Every bite was fantastic, and the service was exceptional. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming--it made the entire experience even better. A few tips if you're planning a visit: Make reservations! This place books up quickly. Bar seating is first come, first served, but there are only six seats. There's a beautiful patio overlooking the marina where you can enjoy drinks (no food service on the patio). It's an intimate space with around 10 tables, making for a cozy dining experience. It's a 12-and-up restaurant, perfect for a relaxing date night or an adults-only evening out. It's easy to see why we came back a second time, and it definitely won't be our last! If you're visiting Cape Charles, Hook @ Harvey is an absolute must-visit. We can't wait to return!

We made…read morereservations in advance and when we arrived, our table wasn't ready yet but there isn't anywhere to wait inside that isn't directly in the way of the staff. After about 20 minutes or so, our table was ready and we did all love the atmosphere. Drinks were great - they made a perfect dirty martini and always extra points for blue cheese olives. The bartender on duty was the star of the show. We didn't catch her name, but she also works at Deadrise, so send her praises! Food was very inconsistent. We got a few appetizers to start off and the mushroom tart was by far the favorite across the table. Seasoned perfectly and loved the flavor combos. We also got the special crab puff pastry, which was fine but it felt to be lacking some difference in texture and for the price, didn't feel worth it to us. Caesar salad was extremely under seasoned, essentially flavorless but our other salad was superb! The She Crab Bisque was lovely and the crab puff on top was adorable. This place loves a puff pastry. Entrees: we sadly did not have an entree at the table that we would come back for. I got the seafood linguine, which looked delicious but again, was missing seasoning. The "sauce" tasted like seafood-y pasta water which I don't believe was the intention. The seafood was all cooked beautifully so I ate that happily and left the pasta. A friend at the table got the filet, which was seasoned beautifully but cooked incorrectly. Ordered medium, served blue rare. She did ask/tell the server, but the server shared that they just cook their steaks less than most places. The table next to us also sent back an entree and I overheard her say that it was a tough night, so with that being said, I will come back to retry this place because I have a feeling it can be really awesome

His family was excited to bring me, and I see why. Despite being crowded, the servers were spot on with timing and hospitality. The owner even stopped by to say hello and happy holidays. Very attentive staff, and I can't praise them enough. The food was just as great. Meaty crabcakes with little to no filler. I ordered mine atop a salad, which was delicious and fresh. My boyfriend's ribeye was massive and cooked to perfection. Even the rolls for the table were delicious, and we had to bring home the leftovers. If I were a drinker, this would even be a great spot for evening cocktails. Great selection, everything looked great. The smoked old fashions ordered at our table looked wonderful. The hearty entrees didn't even leave room for desserts. It's all worth the price. Upscale dining feel in the charming small town of Gloucester Courthouse.

However, if you want to substitute onion rings instead of fries it will cost you $8 extra, making it a $26 meal. So really you're just buying a side of onion rings and also not getting the fries. This is not a substitution. This is buying more and getting less. Please tell me how this makes any sense!?!? I gave quite a bit of push back along with some real life number crunching... but the employee could not seem to understand the lack of logic that, based on their menu prices, an onion ring substitution should be more like $1, and not $8. This is adding 45% to the cost of the meal which is absurd. This is not a surcharge, it's just buying onion rings and also not getting the fires that come with the meal. I wasn't going to pay $26 for a burger, so got the fries which were actually amazing, but not what I wanted... and the burger just was okay... but I can't seem to get over their lack of understanding that this makes no sense. Just write no substitutions if you don't want to bother catering to your customers! I was a tourist heading home from a mini vacation and REALLY craving onion rings, this venue made me super grumpy for no good reason except stubbornness and lack of math skills and reasoning and customer service. Not impressed.
