In Praise of Southwestern Roofing! Old school values, fair pricing, and competence! March 2022 I had Southwestern Roofing and others bid on a large project to replace decayed wood and replace old, dilapidated siding with Hardy Plank, upgrade gutters to larger size, paint and caulk the outside of my 2-story house and rebuild damaged wood and siding around chimney to prevent rain leaking into that area. Southwestern was the only bidder who presented a professional folder stating all the services were available through them including manufacturer's' information for top grade material they used. It included BBB, Manufacturer's, and customer review letters -all were top notch rated for a business that has been active in our communities for decades. BBB was A+. (Other bidders were F's or unrated but with serious complaints of taking money and not completing work). They provided their in-house professional construction, gutter, painting, and general contractors assessments of damage and needed repairs for a one-page final estimate and were easy to work with details, suggestions, and options. All were pleasant, thorough, attentive, thoughtful, helpful, and extraordinarily accommodating. I felt safe when they were around with respect to me and my property. The construction began promptly on the appointed date and the teams worked tirelessly from early morning to late in the evening to complete all the work in a few days, stopping only to keep me informed of any needed changes or confirm open estimate items- items that could not be known beforehand but estimated prices were already on the estimate before work began. They all smiled frequently as they worked and seemed to really enjoy doing their work and pleasing the customer. The workers were friendly and if there was a language difficulty, they would quickly get another employee who could clarify the conversation to speak with me promptly. Before painting they power washed the whole house and driveway. Then painted first by spray and then a brushed and rolled on coat to assure good coverage. Again, the team was friendly, professional, and used quality products. They were happy to fix and or remove outdated items from the house. The painter cheerfully came back after it was completed to remove an overlooked item or two and to do some extra items we had agreed to after the initial plan. The gutter team was also prompt, professional and accomplished their installation quickly. They came back to address a small concern I had and adjusted the problem I had been concerned about. The best part for me personally was a door to the garage that stuck and was difficult to open all the time and no one had been able to fix it properly. Frank, the supervisor, personally fixed it so it opens and shut easily. It was a halleluiah! moment after years of suffering the inconvenience! Southwestern Roofing is highly recommended by me and other my senior citizen friends that I have referred to them. They are delighted with the work and the customer care they received. Poor quality and bad followup. Used substandard roofing materials causing me to have to replace the entire flat part of my roof because they just kept pouring tar on top of shriveled and cracking material causing leaks in the roof and damage to the inside part of the ceiling when the roof was less than 4 years old! I would not use this company ever again. This cost me over $9000 because the shoddy workmanship on the roof was NOT covered by my homeowners insurance. read more

I hired these guys for a new roof, exterior painting and a new concrete patio in the back yard. The roofing went OK aside from leaving trash in my yard. The painting was a nightmare. Estevan completely misquoted me and kept trying to get me to pay more money for things that definitely should have been included, like shutters and trim around the back door and patio. I guess he must have lost money on the painter because he completely ghosted me on the patio. Haven't heard anything from him in a month and won't return calls. Buyer beware and pay close attention to the estimate. Included every detail you can possibly think of. read more

Esteban and his team are awesome. Extremely trustworthy and honest. Extremely hard to find great contractors. We have hired SWR three times. They built a attached patio to our home; you can't tell it was an additional since they did a fantastic job flushing roof to existing roof. They replaced our roof and painted entire house- so many compliments from our neighbors. Last project was replacing some roof flutes that squirrels had chewed. We've used this company for quite a while since we've lived in our home for nearly 25 years. Eventually something is going to need repairing on your roof and a when you find a reputable roofer, you hold onto their business card for future reference. April of this year proved to be a wild time, and my insurance company got real used to hearing from me. The hailstorm that moved through here in mid-April was not kind to our home or our cars, so I spent a lot of time on the phone with insurance claims adjustors and various people that could assess the damage that had been done to our property. As soon as we figured out something was potentially going on with our roof, I called Southwestern Roofing. A bit of phone tag, I finally got a rep back in touch with me, as the previous rep I had dealings with had retired (his name was Gene and he was great - he's the reason for one of the stars here). The new rep made an appointment to come out and assess my roof damage and give me an estimate. I made it very clear that I had not called my insurance company to date. A visit on a Friday afternoon was very brief. I was told that he had "left his ladder" at his previous job site; I insisted he at least look at my roof to see if I needed to make a claim. A modest perusal of the roof by him (with me doing most of the talking) led to him telling me that I needed to contact my insurance company and make a claim. He never touched or took pictures of my roof at all. After filing a claim, my insurance company told me that I needed Southwestern to come back out and give me a written estimate of the total repair or replacement costs. All of a sudden, when I got back in touch with Southwestern Roofing, they didn't want to talk to me unless the insurance adjustor was present. The rep continually told me that he didn't need to provide me with an estimate, but that they would "work with" the insurance company to assess my damages and determine what needed to be repaired or replaced and what the costs would be. I was pressed continually about "When will your adjustor be out?" and then "Tell us when he's there and we'll come out," response. Confused, I called my agent back. No. This is not how it works. A roofer needs to give you a written estimate of work to be done. After the adjustor makes their assessment, you submit the roofer's estimate to your insurance adjustor and they approve or modify it. You don't lock yourself in with ONE repair facility this way and the roofer does not work directly with your insurer. Southwestern, it seemed, wouldn't talk to me as if I was the homeowner any more! I furled my brow thinking about all of this "negotiation" nonsense! So I just called another roofing contractor. Oh, that was easy! read more

I almost didn't hire these guys after reading the reviews, but I finally decided that the recommendation of a neighbor in the rental business was worth a lot more than the condemnation of a handful of strangers -- especially when you look at the dates and realize most of them are whining about getting a roofer at their beck-and-call after a hurricane! Esteban and the entire crew (must have been 15 of them!) were extremely professional, courteous, and efficient. In two days, it was done, including carpentry repairs required by the lousy leaky roof on my carport, which was only 8 years old. They worked until after dark both days, and not only cleaned up in the dark, they even cleaned my gutters and re-installed my gutter screens! The materials used were top-notch (lifetime warranty), and Esteban specified rubberized under-layment in many places where the original roofers had used tar paper. Despite some unforeseen repairs to the decking on my patio cover (also only 8 yrs old!), the bill was exactly as quoted. Esteban thought they could have done a better job of cleanup (in the dark!), and he sent a guy, who spent an hour the next day making it perfect. I hate writing reviews, but it's so rare to find a conscientious contractor, that I felt someone should add some balance to the whiners. If you need a roof, hire these guys, and ask for Esteban! read more

REVIEW FOR: INTERIOR SHEET ROCK REPAIRS AND PAINTING, PORCELAIN TILE FLOOR INSTALLATIONS, BACK SPLASH INSTALLATION. I had previously used Southwestern Roofing crews for fencing, roof, skylight replacement and exterior painting. Called them back for all the INTERIOR work. The crew of Jose Morales, Pablo, and Dante provided very excellent service all the way around. My 38-year old house had never been painted inside, and had many sheet rock repair issues due to having my plumbing replaced in 2003 and walls never repaired, stains from plumbing and roof leaks (repairs to plumbing and roof previously fixed), issues with old termite damage, etc. Jose and his crew did a fantastic job on all these wall issues, repairing sheet rock wherever needed, prepping all wall areas for painting including texture where needed, and then doing the painting of drywall, doors, and trim. They exactly matched the off-white paint used for most of the house, and the peach colored paint in master bedroom. Their painting was absolutely professional and my house looks brand new (I've seen painting done by other 'professionals', and Jose's crew was far and above). Painting was done exactly as I wanted, and if they noticed something that needed re-doing, they took care of right away. The crew took close attention to detail. They also installed new porcelain tile floors in my kitchen and one bathroom (removing old vinyl) and in master bath (removed carpet). This floor installation was done flawlessly, and the floors are extremely level (even others have noticed this!). The floors are gorgeous! I had my kitchen and bath counters replaced with a quartz product - this crew did not handle that as they handle granite only - but they did install a gorgeous new kitchen back splash. They also made sure the plumbing and cook top was disconnected before counter installation, and re-connected after. As an added bonus, since the bathroom floors were being replaced and the toilets had to be taken up, they also installed new water-saving toilets. Jose Morales, as the lead, was an excellent lead person on this project. If there was ANY problem (even things originally done when house was built), he made sure it was fixed and done correctly. I'd like to say I'd reviewed SW roofing's products and services, but since they just called to let me know my job "was too small for them" (read "more profit on bigger jobs), I'm unable to do so. The question I have to ask is "why wasn't I told this when you were at my house, measuring my windows, wasting my %^*%# time"??? Lesson learned- If you're on a VA Loan and haven't got at least $4000 set aside for SW Roofing's projects, DON'T BOTHER calling them. UPDATE. Just got off the phone with my wife. Someone from the company called her. It was explained to her by a SW Roofing rep that he's a sinner and sometimes we all sin and he's ready to give us a quote. WOW. read more

We have been waiting almost three weeks to have someone come out and just evaluate our roof damage. We have a hole in the roof above our bedroom and missing shingles. Our roof is very old, so we were wanting to replace it. My husband contacted them and finally got an appointment set up. The first appointment, we were told Gary would be there before 11am or after 1pm. Well that's all day and I had a doctors appointment in the afternoon, so after the morning I left. My husband said he told them to call him so he could try to meet them at the house. They never called. After they no called, no showed for a second appointment, we called the office. We were inquiring about getting a different salesman. My husband told her we were having to repeat ourselves a lot and it seemed he didn't want to come out. The receptionist said Gary was the best and she would have him go out. She said he was having some personal issues at home that have made it more difficult for him. We took her word for it and she had him contact us again. When he did, he said he would send someone out to repair the roof today between 5-6pm. He assumed it was just a dent in the roof. My husband wanted him to actually assess the roof for replacement. Gary acted like it was too much to ask. This time I called the office and tried to request a different person. The receptionists said she would call us back. She never did. And surprise, they no call, no showed AGAIN!! We will be looking for a different roofer. I wouldn't waste your time. read more

Look elsewhere. I phoned to have repair work done, relating to the $5,000+ work this company had performed on my house. It's more than 2 weeks later and I've had no call back. I was told I would be contacted within 24 hours. Moreover, had the work been satisfactorily done in the first place, I wouldn't have needed to call. IF you go with this company make sure all the salesman promises during the walkthrough are written out on the job order. Verbal "we'll throw that in if we get the job" means absolutely nothing once you've agreed to the job order. Never again. read more

I think being busy due to the storms made the transaction a little unorthodox because roofing contractors are spread thin. Overall we were very happy with the quality, professionalism and cost of our roof patching experience. We had a new roof in 2014. We received so many compliments on the roof. Our neighbors wanted the same roof on their houses. Esteban took care of us. We sold that house in 2017 and now need a new roof at the new house. I called Austin at SWR and he had to load an old system, looked up the type of shingle, how many squares, and even took the time to explain what to expect on the new roof. Awesome customer service! We have used Southwestern Roofing for multiple jobs including a new roof, large custom built second floor deck with a waterproof patio underneath and recently we've hired the company to remove aging stucco, replacing with Hardy Plank and paint our home. I see experienced precision with every angle cut and each day the workers clean up before they leave and the cost for every project has been reasonable. I held the second part of my payment so that I could insure that my vents were fixed. When they called about payment, I told them I would pay as soon as it was fixed. I did as I said I would and paid them in full. After at least 4 attempts to get a receipt and warranty, I STILL do not have same. As I noted before, I had a small leak. The workers have been to my house 3 times to fix said leak, and now I have 3 leaks! I have spoken with my rep., and after a lengthy conversation he is telling me it is the pipes in the attic, not the roof. When I stated that I had never had leaks before this work was done, all he said was that he'd have to take my word for it. Then he started to tell me how he had done several houses in my subdivision and I am the only one complaining! How's that for customer service?! To make matters worse, their employees speak very little English, most of which is so broken that I have a hard time understanding them. I will update after tonight's meeting, and if the work isn't done right, my next email will be to the BBB, followed by a visit with an attorney. Steer clear of this company! read more

We didn't have them do our roof recently, but I'm writing about garage siding they worked on for us. Now we need a new roof due to hail damage and the first thing I said was, We are NOT getting Southwestern to give us a new roof!!! I don't even have enough energy to detail the experience with the garage siding except to say it was the shoddiest job I'd ever seen and the guy had to come back and fix something else, each time it was more money. We spent twice as much as we needed to have to replace wood around the garage door. One side of the garage trim was replaced with wood, the other has composite. One has a smooth finish, the other wood looking rough finish. One side was finished, the other still has a rotten piece of wood at the bottom that should have been replaced, but wasn't. Don't even get me started on the disappointing siding job. Every time I think of how much money we spent (my husband was in charge, soup to nuts) and how awful the job looked, I get mad. I've already written this review on yelp last fall, but somehow all the older reviews disappeared from yelp and now there are only recent ones. FISHY. read more

Why 1 star? poor customer service and are only out to rake in your hard earned money. They won't put you on their schedule when you make an appointment, When I called to confirm, Gary said "you are not on my schedule, who did you speak with?" I said, "you." When I was asked what kind of work I needed, I explained my home inspector found some shingles needed replacing; Gary responded he had a lot of roofs to replace, and that he wasn't going to come out for a "few shingles" when he had big jobs lined up. Unless you are ready for a big job on your roof, this company won't bother with you. So buyer beware. read more

Southwestern Roofing added a patio roof to my house. They did a beautiful job. Gary was very accessible and returned phone calls in a timely manner, also stopped by every day to check on the job. The patio exceeded all expectations. We are thrilled and will definitely recommend them to our friends. We also will need a new roof soon and I plan to call them for that. read more

I've read all the reviews on Southwestern Roofing. I can relate to parts of one or two of the reviews posted as I had a bit of a communication problem with them myself. One or two scheduling problems that were ironed out to my satisfaction. That said, they are not the most organized but, the work they have done for me, the crews they have working for them, materials, and craftsmanship and great. I have no complaints. I would definitely let Vincent (the owner) do work for me anytime. The roof looks great, the gutters around the house look great and work very well, and the hardiplank siding looks great too. I believe their problems stem from their being very busy and over scheduling more than lack of professionalism. I've awarded jobs to companies that were very professional seemed organized and smooth but their actual work was terrible, so from now on, Southwestern Roofing gets my first call for a work bid. read more

These guys painted the exterior of our house, and replaced damaged siding with hardi-board. They did a fantastic job, on time, and for a very reasonable price. Their employees were polite, professional and friendly, and went out of their way to accommodate our dogs when they needed the back yard. We had Southwestern replace our entire roof two years ago and all seemed fine until I noticed water on my kitchen island. I looked up at the ceiling only to see a huge wet spot and water in my light! My husband went up in the attic and the hot water heater was fine. We finally realized that it was a pipe in the attic that they disconnected and failed to reconnect. We reached out to Esteban Trevino, the superintendent, who informed us that they were too busy to assist during our emergency. He stated that it would be at least three weeks before he could have anyone come out to look. Due to the urgency of the situation, we had no other course of action other than to call out a plumber, who informed us that the roofers caused the issue. He charged us over $200 for the repair and we submitted the invoice to Esteban for reimbursement but have yet to hear any response. That has been almost 9 months and we have had no reply. We would have recommended them prior to their lack of follow up and the rude response. read more

WARNING ! WARNING ! WARNING ! Some of the people this company hires are NOT bonded or insured. I found out the hard way. My wife and I are now both disabled and we are very poor because our many medical bills. A few years ago the contract labor truck driver that Southwester Roofing employed, backed over the front of our only car with their flatbed truck loaded with lumber, crushing it down onto the frame. The driver then started to drive off, but I got out of my care and stood in front of his truck to stop him because he didn't understand English when I told him what he did.. The contract laborer's foreman showed up a short time later and offered me some cash to forget the wreck. I declined. He then promised that his boss, the owner of Southwestern Roofing, would take care of everything and asked me not to call the police. The driver of the flatbed truck had no license(only a green card), spoke no English, and I was later told they had no insurance because this contract labor company had so many wrecks that the insurance company would no longer insure them. Since the driver was under contract with Southwestern Roofing, I contacted Southwestern Roofing and spoke to the owner. I then met with the owner who said he would only put a used hood on my our car, and a friend of his would paint it, and nothing more...but there was far more damage to the car...and I had estimates to prove it. His response was that I should take his offer or, "you will have to deal with a MEXICAN." I then went a second time to his company to talk to him and this time noticed a big Christian fish symbol on the front door. What a joke! He was not available, but when I told one of his employees they should scrape that fish off the front door, I was told all about the "good Christian man" he was and how he donated $16,000 to the church. Well Vince, we all die and one day when you do, be sure to remind God about that $16,000 you bragged to your employee about donating and see if that is enough to buy your way into heaven. By the way, God may ask you about that poor couple who's car you were responsible for repairing and offered little more than a racist comment in response. I had totally put the memory of you out of my mind until my roof was damaged and I was attempting to figure out a way to afford to fix it and was Google searching for roofing quotes and saw Southwestern Roofing. I had long ago thought about protesting with a sign out in front of your store, but I am too busy trying to earn enough to keep medical bills and insurance paid so I can keep my wife alive.
