Very small corner place, seats for maybe 12. Others had commented on parking, go after business hours and there is plenty of parking. I had chopped brisket sandwich, cole slaw and cornbread. "Fall off the bone" appears to be the goal here. The well smoked wings, which were not subsequently deep or air fried, barely stuck to the bone, and it proved impossible to pick up the ribs, which came wet, without the bone falling out. Both meats needed sauce to create a flavor profile. The wings were tender without being mushy, but the rib meat unfortunately crossed this particular line. Rolled through Lincoln on an early Saturday afternoon and wanted to try some BBQ. Southwest Pit is pretty small with only 3 tables and they aren't licensed to serve tap water, so bottled drinks only. My wife and I ordered large. She did a small rib with mashed potatoes and gravy, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with beans and slaw, and we split 6 bbq wings and then shared everything. My feelings are very mixed. I am not a believer that any meat should be soaked with sauce, only as a glaze while cooking or for dipping on the side. But this was a damn fine sauce, it is very complex and thick and brought back memories of a dark Mexican mole', not a cheap bbq sauce. I give them a win for creating such a unique flavor concoction that I didn't mind it covering the ribs and wings this time. Another stand out was the beans. There was tons of sliced hot sausages in it and it could have made a fulfilling meal in itself - 5 stars. The mashed potatoes had a wonderful thick hearty gravy that made them a must order also. The misses included my pulled pork sandwich. A very large portion but blended with so much sauce, it made eating as a sandwich impossible and reminded me of the tubs of pre-package bbq meat at the store. I never thought there would be a time when I could be offended by BBQ, but today was that day. I really have no words. Ordered brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was dry chips of what I suspect was some cut of beef, but it was so lean it could've been kangaroo. Thank goodness the pulled pork comes with a jar of bbq sauce on it so I didn't have to risk tasting the meat. In spite of the $16 price tag for this meal, I left much on the classy styrofoamware. Had a day off in Lincoln, traveling from Minneapolis to Denver. Always looking for anything with a "locally owned", "mom & pop" vibe. Loved this bbq place! Ordered the pulled pork sandwich, side of beans with the hot links in them, and wings with the house bbq sauce. Everything was delicious. Tasted exactly how bbq should taste. The wing meat fell off the bone. The owner was very nice. Seemed to be the only one there at the time. He even threw a few extra wings onto the plate. Brisket and ribs were good, but the sides were what impressed us the most. The potato salad tasted completely home made. There were arguments over who got the last bite, and face it, that never happens with something mom doesn't make. Coleslaw disappeared almost as easily. The corn bread was almost like dessert. A nice cake texture with great corn flavor. They come individually wrapped, which was a nice feature since we admittedly ordered too many. Just went back here tonight, and once again I came away extremely satisfied. I got the Little Pig pulled pork sandwich, which ain't all that little at 5 oz with a 1/4lb of bacon and cheese. It came with a side and a piece of corn bread for $7.99, which I thought was really good, plus 2 bucks extra for a drink. Did I mention they make some of the best cornbread I've ever had in my life? Cuz they do. The only thing is this place is a tiny little hut with like three tables, so seating is extremely limited, but they do offer food to go. Southwest Pit BBQ is unimpressive from the front, I don't mean that in a bad way, I think it's great but it is a small building, and I do know some people that are put off by rough exteriors... I walked into this place for the first time and was immediately greeted by the owner (I assume), he was very friendly and asked me if I needed to look at a menu before ordering, I did not as I had already looked at the menu online and was ready to go. I ordered a sampler of sorts, Hog Nachos, which are corn chips with pulled pork on them and melted cheese, a Brisket sandwich and 6 naked chicken wings. Hog Nachos: I was surprised that the pulled pork came pre-sauced, I didn't have a problem with it, just wasn't used to it per se...the meat was delicious, the sauce was tangy and spicy and the whole thing went together very well, I should note that the cheese comes in a separate container and I chose not to use it, all the same, it was very very good. Brisket Sandwich: You don't know good brisket until you've had good brisket...I have had good brisket before and Southwest Pit BBQ definitely has the real McCoy. Tender and flavorful, good sauce, nice bun, and nicely trimmed of fat, which can become an issue sometimes with brisket. Seriously Scott, if you're reading this, job well done my man! Good brisket is hard to do right. Chicken Wings: I got these just because they are 50 cents each and they seemed to me at least, to be a bit of a flagship item at this place...that and I've never had smoked chicken wings before so I was curious. These things are killer, just perfectly cooked, smokey, flavorful, tender, juicy, perfect chicken wings. I don't know if Scott brines them or not, but they certainly had plenty of flavor, I got them "Naked", the other two options are to have them tossed with BBQ sauce or hot sauce, I think I'll try the hot version next time. If you're looking for great BBQ and you don't think a BBQ place has to have a fancy, log cabin feel, go here...it's about the food, not the ambiance. I tried the wings (smoked, not fried) with some thai chili sauce (not spicy, but tasty at least!). The wings are delicious. They are quite possibly the best thing here. I came through here twice, so I tried the pulled pork and the brisket. Normally I'm more of a brisket fan, but their pulled pork was better to me. Their brisket wasn't awful, it was good, but I've had better brisket. The pulled pork was very good. The sides? On spot! I loved the baked beans, and the cornbread was sweet enough to feel like you were eating a cake for dessert! Delicious. The owner here is nothing short of polite and patient and has an awesome attitude. I LOVE this place!! It is quite small (the seating area holds maybe twelve people) but the service that you get is very attentive and the food is WONDERFUL!! So that I could do a true test, I ordered the naked wings (I mean come on anyone can make good wings with a sauce) and they were AMAZING!! I would also recommend the pulled pork sandwich Tennessee style~that's with coleslaw on it. They also have GREAT Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. The next time i go, I will get some ribs and let you know how those are. There are only two men that work there and they do a GREAT job!! The other reviews are right; this place isn't much inside or out. But the food is outstanding. My son had wings and raved about them. I had a brisket sandwich that came with bacon too; why more places don't add bacon to a brisket sandwich, I'll never know. It was outstanding! The sauces were excellent and I enjoyed the baked beans with pork as well. The only downside to our visit was that an employee's child was running around the place, yelling quite a bit. I understand that it's a family environment, but with a place that small, kids should probably not be running around. A small complaint, and we would certainly go back, but would probably get the food to go next time. read more
