We had Southwest Iron Works make a custom security screen door for us about 11 years ago. It is beautiful and sturdy, and we've never had any issues with it. We needed to have 4 wooden gates on our property replaced, and we wanted them to match the door they had installed so long ago. SWIW still had the original build information, and the gates match perfectly. The gates are gorgeous and of the highest quality. SWIW isn't the least expensive option, but in our opinion they are the best. The office staff is courteous and competent and the installers are amazing--professional, polite, neat and tidy. They really took their time installing the gates and did a perfect job. While there was a fairly long wait, the gates were constructed to a custom order. Custom orders always take longer than stock items, and it is worth the wait. read more

We went through several different companies trying to find the right design for us that didn't lack in quality or break the bank. It took a couple months for them to complete/install our security door but from what I've found that is average (if not quick) right now in Tucson. The gentlemen that came to install it were also great, very professional and informative. We were so shocked with how high quality the door was in person. It looks beautiful! We moved from back to Tucson earlier this year. We purchased a Security Door from a popular Local Warehouse Retailer. Their door could not be installed; becoming a nightmare. We cancelled the purchase. Subsequently we asked two of our neighbors about their Custom Security Door Company, Both strongly recommended Southwest Iron Works! What a difference! From our first appointment call, in home meeting for Model and Colors, to Installation. What a Pleasure! These people were Courteous and Professional. The Installer, Fernando, was Eager to Please! Warning-beware! This company is practicing false advertising - they show photos on their website of much nicer products than the ones that they give estimates for or actually intend to deliver. We asked for a detailed estimate for several doors based on the photos posted on their website. We received the estimates, and after much deliberation, we agreed to move forward with one of the doors. Much to our surprise, we were told that their formal estimate was for some other version of the door - that is NOT pictured on the website anywhere - and that if we wanted the model shown on the website it would cost twice as much. In summary, be careful - their original estimate of $1895 is MISLEADING - when you actually try to purchase the door, the price changes to $3995. We spent days making this decision only to find out the original estimate is a bait and switch. Very Frustrating! read more

This time I needed something for a back door that is rarely used, but definitely a potential security breach,. I stuck with a fairly basic door because it is rather hidden, but it still looks great. However, if you are willing to wait for a quality product with customized features and great customer service, then you will enjoy what Southwest Iron Works delivers. Purchased front door enclosure, casita screen doors, a custom vine trellis, and screen doors for master bedroom and guest bedroom. All were custom. Totally pleased. I've never really dealt with the associates with Southwest Iron Works, but they've done one security door and two fences for us. Their customer service seems to be top notch, but I'm going to agree with other reviewers: the wait time for things is unprecedented and very long. read more

I bought a 11,000 dollar front door from them 7 years ago and have had issues ever since. Beautiful door but getting maintenance care is not happening. They charge 795.00 for any problem you have, which believe me is quite often. It's a corporate company and I think they won't be here for long. read more

The Good: These guys have excellent customer service! I spoke to about 5 or 6 different people in this business and they all were great! They answered my questions, were patient with me, and explained everything to me. They returned my calls in a prompt manner and were very accommodating. Abel came out and was really nice and professional along with everyone else I interacted with. The Bad: The most annoying thing about Yelp is they hide reviews so that you don't notice them right away, but just like the other reviewer on here said (whose review is hidden) that they had a big delay with Southwest Iron Works actually delivering the product, we also had the same issue. Abel gave us a time frame of when our products would be done. However by the end of it, they were installed about a month after they had told us they would be ready. So we also experienced that delay. It was probably about 4 weeks later than originally quoted. Also one of our products kept getting messed up because the guys didn't actually check the specific order form and details but just made the products the way he thought it was supposed to be. One product had to be re-done 2 different times before they got it right. However this was also good because some companies won't fix what they mess up so I was glad to see these guys fix the problem they made without me having to ask them to do it. They took responsibility for their mistake, which is good. Another issue we had was the products we ordered were really, really expensive-- however for the price one had a couple of small defects in it. When I pointed it out, the installer basically said it wasn't a big deal, and he's right. I just wanted to point it out because such expensive brand new products shouldn't be defective... To be fair, it was a very small defect-- but it was an issue of security for us. Also this company had the most expensive prices. If you are looking for just bars for the house there are other companies in town that will do them for a lower price and be more affordable. Overall, I have no problems recommending this company, just be aware there may likely be a delay in receiving your product and/ or there might be a few defects or mistakes along the way. However, I would hire this company again if needed. read more

We were and are very impressed with the security/screen doors manufactured and installed by Southwest Iron Works. The estimator was able to come in the evening to accommodate one of our work schedules. The price was substantial, but the followup, the work, the delivery, the install and finally the cleanup after were all top notch. We are very happy with the security/screen doors for regular swing doors, as well as sliding patio doors. The installers took plenty of time explaining how everything worked also, and as I'm partially disabled they made sure i could reach and operate everything. Good job, nice people. It does take some time to get these as all work is custom ... but we feel well worth the wait. read more

Visited their showroom and reviewed all the different patterns available. They are not inexpensive, but we admired the quality & workmanship. We ordered three doors and they sent a rep to measure the doorways. Actually he had to come twice to make sure it was right. There was a long lead time before the actual install date. However, there was a problem in that the double doors didn't close properly. The installer tried to adjust, but it still wasn't right with a gap between the two doors. He took a photo and said he would inform the office. The receptionist called and was rather rude saying they have seen the photos and "there is no perfection" and that the price we paid shouldn't make a difference. What?? The sales rep returned and also deflected our concerns leaving us rather bewildered at the treatment. Fortunately there must have been a meeting of the minds as the sales rep and the original installer returned the next week to fix. After an hour of adjusting the doors are as they should be. Took one star off for the push back treatment, otherwise overall we are very pleased with the end results. read more

We built a courtyard in front of our home. Naturally, it needed a gate. Being new to the Tucson area, I asked my neighbor about his three gates and he told me about Southwest Iron Works. I called and made an appointment for them to provide an estimate. The estimator arrived, measured the gate and provided the cost and time to build the gate. As the gate was an odd size, I expected it to take some time. Once the gate was complete, they called and made an appointment for installation. Arrived right on time and installed the gate. The one thing that always stands out to me is customer service. Their service was excellent. The gate works perfectly. I would recommend them to anyone asking about a gate or metal door. They may be more expensive than some others, but the workmanship and service is great. Cheaper is not always better. read more

The door they installed is good quality - it was pricey and took over the two months originally quoted even with a very early design change. However, I asked for a re-key before I signed the contract and paid half the amount, and they didn't include it in the price. Despite spending thousands on the door, they refused to honor a small re-key fee. Their lack of customer service on this issue and repeated comments on how they didn't care about any referrals I would've sent their way really shows the true character of this company. Watch out for bad customer service and refusal to acknowledge any issues on their end. read more

Complete misrepresentation of product pricing at the Maricopa home & garden show. We thought we found our door company after a year of looking. We spent over an hour at the booth discussing exactly what our current door is, and what we were looking for. The rep was adamant about the pricing he gave us, with some reasonable expectations of special glass/door lock, etc that would change the price some, but not anything unreasonable. We just had a rep to the house and he immediately quoted us $2,000 more than what we were told last weekend, mind you without any discussion of upgraded locks or glass. How does an estimate vary that much? I'm not sure where the disconnect is here, but it's unacceptable and a total waste of our time. Either educate your sales people (who also stated he does installs/etc), or give a more accurate ballpark estimate so that potential customers don't feel like you pulled a bait & switch and are now completely furious. I am completely disappointed and feel fortunate that I have two other estimates from other reputable companies that are in the range we were told by SW Ironworks at the show. We would not have entertained this vendor & wasted our limited time if we would have known that the estimate today was the starting price. read more

We ordered a custom made rear screened patio door back in November of 2011. It was delivered and installed in February of 2012. The door is beautiful The installer was professional and polite. However, would I use them again and refer them? NO. We had several other estimates. Abel from Southwest Iron Works was the last estimate. All the estimates were relatively the same and all of the estimators were professional and polite. Perhaps, they all wanted the business. We decided to go with Southwest Iron Works because Abel, the salesman, told us of their relationship with Costco. Abel told us that they do a lot of business with Costco and was the preferred vendor of the month for Costco. We did not know what this meant. But, if Costco backs them, then they must be reputable. We were told our door would be delivered and installed the second week of January. Well, that date came and no door. We called Abel and got the run around. His response was the door was painted and needed 7 - 10 days to cure/dry. That date came and still no door. His next response was the door was being wrapped and ready to be delivered. And, we would be getting a call from his scheduler to setup a date by the last week in January. Well, that date came and no phone call and no door. We called Abel again and he did not return our phone call. By this time, I called the credit card company to dispute the deposit since we never got our door. And, we called Costco to tell them about our experience with their preferred vendor of the month. Costco told us that they do not endorse any vendor of the month. It is simply a service to executive members of Costco who have a business. So, Southwest Iron Works misrepresented those claims. Costco called their corporate legal department in Washington state regarding this matter. Bottom line, Abel lied to us. We lost trust. Perhaps, if he had been forthright and honest about the delivery date we would have been more understanding. When you put down a 50% deposit, you don't want be scammed. Make sure you have in writing when it will be delivered. read more
