Boarded entire flight in 17 minutes. With assigned seats maybe it's a quick process but oh my I'm seat 23 out of 27 rows and half the passengers are crammed in the back with empty rows rows 1-15. I feel fortunate the premium window seat wasn't booked so the lady assigned the middle seat next to me could move over. The rows behind me weren't so lucky. A weird thing... my digital boarding pass said gate B-11 but it was actually A-6. So I had to hustle to the gate after leisurely ordered food in the b terminal. Unhappy with the assigned seating way of doing things on SW now. Before, it was all open seating & you just came on & grabbed a seat. Now, they board by groups(group 1,2,3 etc) and you have to pay for your seat just like any other airline. We upgraded to "extra leg room" but, to me it feels exactly the same as before. She looked at me with disgust and told me this was the priority line, and lazily pointed her finger to the stand that said priority, but the wording on it wasn't black and can easily be missed. I apologized and went to the other line. She yelled "Hey" and nugged her head towards her way, I assumed for me to come back. She now checked in my luggage. I always fly Southwest as my preferred airline. However flew from Connecticut to Tucson yesterday and what a challenging day. My flights were delaed and many were cancelled. It took over 8 hours to just to get to Denver. The problem lack of staff. I will commend on both flights the wonderful only few baggage handlers . They did the best they could and worked very hard but it took a long time so limited. Great job ~ Thank you for showing up!!! Also both pilots were excellent. Both keeping us informed about the delays.. Greatly appreciated. Really bad situation with workers like everywhere else... What a mess everything has become in just 2 years. read more

Southwest does it better than anybody else. Why fly with another carrier when you have a choice. Flying out of the Tucson International Airport is a breeze. And Southwest makes it fun, believe it or not! Recently, I flew on one of their new Boeing 737-800 jets. These are great - lots of space, wider isles, and soft lighting. I LOVE this plane. My favorite way to fly in and out of Tucson is Southwest. You don't pay to check your bag. The employees are generally really nice. They've been installing wi-fi on their planes. Best $5 I've ever spent near an airport. The A gates rarely seem to have a line to get through security. But the best part is this. Southwest only flies 737s. So you are never going to be on a tiny little plane that is taking you to some major airlines hub and is actually flown by a small carrier like SkyWest. You're always on a Southwest flown, large plane. Love it. read more

Pound for pound, the best domestic airline. Yes, you do have to stand in line in check-in orer, but just remember to check in early and you'll get a great seat. Had the best experience with Southwest this past week flying to Wichita Kansas for a visit with friends. The flights are ahead of schedule, you're allowed 2 checked bags per person for free when under 50 pounds, the flight crew was friendly and professional, the prices for my trip were reasonable. This is old school airline travel and what I would expect from an airline without all the extra fees that other airlines charge but still with everything included. I will fly again and as much as I can with this airline. read more

Southwest Airlines is a joke, my one week vacation was cut 2 days short becuse of the airline. The worst part about it was a lack of empathy! We were lied to by a supervisor and had to sleep outside of the airport. When I asked 3 different employees for at least 1 blanket for my son, blanket, I was told no, providing a blanket is not policy... One would think with the amount of money spent on airline tickets a person would at least be treated with respect. But not this Airline. Southwest Airlines is my official go-to airline for domestic flights. Back in the day, they earned my business because they were so affordable and it was super convenient traveling back and forth from college in San Diego. Fast forward several years and I'm still happy as a clam. Sure prices have gone up significantly over the years, but Southwest is still mostly convenient and generally slightly cheaper than most airlines. They won't lose my business unless they pull a United Airlines move on me (mergers and random cancelations). All these airline mergers have resulted in extreme delays and super poor customer service across most other airlines. Southwest Airlines, has yet to disappoint in the customer service department. Delays happen once in a while, but I don't have the fear of my flight randomly getting cancelled as I have with on other airlines. They don't charge for checking in baggage, and the boarding process have become more organized over the years. Their in-flight staff is generally pretty awesome too! Really, Southwest Airlines, as a company seems to try their very best to keep their employees happy, which comes through when you're dealing with them in person. I'd love to see more direct flights leaving Tucson, Arizona. read more

I don't think anyone absolutely loves flying southwest airlines, after all you cannot assign a seat in advance, when flying it's necessary to line up like cattle and cross your fingers and hope for the best seats possible as you walk through the aisles scanning for open seats similar to the Terminator. But here's the thing, they don't charge anything for checking luggage, they don't charge anything to change your flight, they have a great mileage system that enables you to actually use the miles you accrue without the huge hassle of other airlines. The expectations are low when flying Southwest, but I think this is an unfair analysis considering that at least they still serve peanuts and pretzels during the flight. Their route structure is excellent and even though they do have frequent delays they seem to handle it quite well when it happens. At a time when airlines are charging for everything I believe Southwest is an excellent role model. read more

I'm honestly so disappointed. We've flown southwest so many times. This time, our checked baggage got searched through which isn't a big deal. What is a big deal is there was dirt all over the inside of my suitcase. Also, the fact that we no longer have a car seat. We received our car seat back, with the bag that was "covering" it....but the bag was only pieces of fabric. The car seat looks like it was drug across the ground at a great speed. I can't imagine what kind of internal damage was done. Southwest says they're not responsible, but how can you just so carelessly throw something around that blatantly states it's a CAR SEAT on it and know that an infants life depends on it!? I've attached one photo of damage that you can see very clearly. The canopy portion is ripped well, too. The bag was thrown away upon arrival since it was just lumps of fabric. I'm beyond upset, have to clean our dirt covered clothes, and buy a new car seat along with airline bag if we choose to ever fly again...which at this point we won't. read more

Southwest is my favorite airline to fly! They have a great presence here in Tucson and it makes flying easy and enjoyable! I love not paying for checked bags and therefore think with all the other airlines trying to stick it to you there, have the right idea in their business model. The staff is nice, everything is clean, and their prices are right for me especially with their Reward System! I think that they know how to run things and see less delays and cancellations with them. I am loyal to Southwest if they continue to be a company that does good in keeping their employees and customers happy! I agree with Isabella that I would like to see more direct flights from Tucson. If I need that I end up going to Phx for Southwest. Good there too! :-) read more

Fair warning, this is gonna be a long one, involving multiple locations and Southwest's "Customer Service". I was heading out this past Thursday to make my cousin's HS graduation in east TX. My first warning this would be the trip from hell was a text warning me of a delay in Tucson (TUS). I live an hour & a half east of TUS, but decided to leave the house as originally planned to ensure I could speak to a gate agent. My layover was to be 45 minutes in Denver, yet the delay was already 55 minutes due to weather according to the SW gate agent in TUS. I was quickly informed I wouldn't make my Denver (DEN) departure. What ensued was a crazy spider web of options having me fly to LAX, staying overnight in DEN, flying to Houston, then Dallas Love Field (DAL), my final destination...arriving at 5:45pm, with a 7pm graduation to make two hours away. No Go! Finally the gate agent said, "Can you drive to Phoenix?...there's a flight leaving at 7:40pm." Realizing I had a nearly two hour drive, she quickly changed my flight & I hauled butt off-site to pick up my car & drive to PHX. During the drive I realized the gate agent hadn't rescheduled my return flight & my car would be parked in PHX. I quickly parked at the closest lot so I could speak to a gate agent, the parking later costing me $75 for a three day stay. I stood for 45 minutes while the poor gate agent, Nancy, tried every way she could to reschedule my return flight so I could reunite with my car. The system repeatedly gave her error messages & she couldn't even check in a stroller for two dazed parents. All her calls to her supervisor yielded no physical response. Nancy did her best, calling everyone she could & finally informed me "for future reference, ensure the original agent changes your return flight too." A tad too late in this instance & I just had to board the plane, resorting to a Facebook post that yielded a possible ride from TUS to get my car in PHX, something I didn't want to use. Nancy entered some notes & told me to call the 1-800-I-FLY-SWA customer service number to reschedule once in Texas. Sadly, this was the tip of the iceberg. The flight, pilots & flight attendants were wonderful. I arrived 55 minutes later than my original flight, thankful the rental car company was still available. What was terrible was the website & lack of customer service at FLY SWA. Over two days I called eight times, spending a total of 4 hours, 18 minutes & 49 seconds desperately trying to get a human on the line. As a tip - SW get some decent Muzak! I stayed up til 4am freaking out because no one would respond, despite two messages saying I would get a call back in 15 minutes and 7 minutes, respectively. I made two Facebook posts, even messaging them, with FB communications rep Lindsey no help. During one hour+ session on hold I did a Google search & discovered that SW's website had gone into "meltdown" & their phone lines were overwhelmed due to their recent low fare sale. Sure enough, I checked the website, & was booted off repeatedly. I was in full-on panic now because it showed I had no upcoming flights, listing my departure was on my original TUS flight, with my return the rescheduled flight out of PHX - stupid considering this would've meant that I was in the air at the same time on two separate flights! It was a very sleepless night imagining I was going to have to book another very expensive, short-notice, flight just to get back to my car. Finally my cousin said "to hell with SW, let's go to Walmart & buy some wine!" Once again, I was on the phone, on hold buying a kiddie pool & booze when an angel named Rhonda finally answered. 24 minutes later I finally had a direct return flight to PHX, with a three hour drive home when I returned. I have always loved the flight crews & agents at SW. I love that they give snacks on the plane & their in-flight cocktails are reasonably priced. But this was a very stressful "adventure" I don't ever want to repeat. After all was said & done, Rhonda informed me I somehow have a miraculous credit of $133 I must use in the next two months. I am searching for a brave soul to purchase the ticket for since I really don't want to fly SW ever again. Sadly, SW is typically more expensive than other carriers, particularly since I rarely need to check a bag, & if I do, it's always free since I'm in the military. In addition, there's no assigned seating for the extra cost. (As a comedian once said "Ever fly Southwest?...One thru Forty...GO!!!") I might also add that most other carriers will let military pre-board, while Southwest does not. I sincerely hope my experience this past weekend was a rare one & dedicated flyers fare better than I. read more

The other day my plane looked like something I flew as a child maybe even much older than me (I'm in my 30's) It was so old that the pilot had to come on and explain that the sound we where hearing was from a generator and that it was old technology!!!! We were flying from lax to Tucson on 5/18/18, 10pm flight. The flight was a bit delayed because the southwest airline staff were gracious to wait for passengers from another fight that arrived late to transfer to our plane. This speaks to the heart of care of wanting to ensure passengers do not miss their connecting flight. In doing so, some passengers were concerned that they may miss their ability to get car rentals when the plane arrives later at Tuscon. The Southwest staff called the rental car companies to remain open until the plane arrives, for the passengers. We were one of those groups of individuals. When we arrived late, we were able to pick up our rental car. Kudos to this group of Southwest airline staff. This is what caring customer service looks and feels like!!! Thank you. read more

Had a good flight out to Tucson from Boston and was feeling enthusiastic about SWA. Check in info was emailed to me and I was able to check right in and get my mobile pass with my TSA preflight check designation. I didn't mind the boarding process at all, got a good seat. My return trip was exactly the opposite. No email, tried to check in with itinerary confirmation number and was told it was ineligible. Since I couldn't check in until the airport I got a terrible boarding order and my pick of middle seats. And for some reason no preflight status. Which put me in the much longer regular security line. When I inquired at Tucson gate desk about the difficulties I had I was told to contact IT because she had no idea why. . The only reason why people use Southwest Airlines from Tucson is that it is the only airlines with direct flights to their destination or because you want to save a buck. They are no different than any other airlines in how they treat their customers. In ways they are worse because they misrepresent their friendly attitude by having singing flight attendants. So if you are so superficial to grade a business by their singing, then yes give em 5 stars because no one else sings. If you notice the undertone of letting customers fend for themselves, notice them move peoples bags or kick them out of their seats to appease people who arrived late, look at the fine print in their tickets to see they are often not refundable nor usable for future credit, read the news about their maintenance infractions, note how many people eventually get on their no-fly list inconveniencing them to get tickets in-person from uniquely unhelpful gate agents, perform racial and gender profiling when performing random screening (the screening is done by TSA but Southwest gate agents announce the rules). Then perhaps a more realistic rating is needed. read more

So year ago I purchased two tickets to Nashville Tennessee only to have to change one of my flights. Southwest wanted over $300 to change $150 ticket so instead I went with frontier airlines which got me to Nashville from Phoenix for under $80. I was told that I had a year from that date to reschedule another flight in order to get credit for the flight that I canceled. When I attempted to use my voucher I was told that I couldn't because it was the last day to be used and that I had to "Fly" by that date. That's not what I was told initially so then they told me I had to wait till the next day to call and get an extension for six months to be able to use the voucher. When I called the next day I was told I would be charged $100 for the extension thus leaving me with about a $49 voucher which i could expect to see in my email in 4-6 weeks instead of someone just hitting the send button. What a freaking joke Southwest is. They seem to think that somehow it's going to cost the company $100 to email me a voucher they're going to email me anyway for $49 instead of $149. Way to go with your customer service! #Southwest Airlines sucks! read more

Southwest customer service is not great! I lost my passport on the flight (which I know is my fault, but am still hoping I can get some help), and currently stuck in the US unable to return home. When I asked to contact the lost and found, or the airport, all three agents I spoke to told me to go online, report it and within 72 hours 'hopefully' I will hear back. When it comes to passports I don't think a 'hopefully' suffices as I now am unable to make my flight home, and have to figure out another way into Canada. read more

Someone PLEASE tell me what the secret is to getting a low number in the new boarding fiasco. I welcomed the new system. We used to sit there waiting for boarding to begin, and watch for the first person to make a move. (of course there were always those who laid on the floor 2 hours before the flight). Then we would make a rush to the front of the line, and then watch for the a-holes trying to sneak ahead of us. I always go on line 24 hours prior to get a good number, and to date, the lowest number that I have gotten is A-32. It has become a challenge. I have sat at the ol' PC, watching the stopwatch, calibrated to the national archives, and low and behold, A-38. What the heck. How did the blond idiot in line ahead of me get an A-18. She looked like she didn't have the brains to get out of bed that morning, much less hit the right key on a computer! read more

This is the worst Airline/Flight experience I have ever had. I have had many air trips throughout my life and have never had one as bad as this. I am from Tucson and live in San Diego. I make about 3 trips per year back to Tucson and usually drive every time. I decided to try flying this time to save time. Save time? I dont think so. The car picked me up at 6:55pm on 6/12 for flight 499 from SAN to TUS (9:05 flight time). I waited in the Airport for 2 hours until we finally boarded at 9:15pm, sat on runway for 20 minutes and finally took off at 9:42pm. Again, the flight was supposed to take off at 9:05pm. The crew was unapologetic and slow moving. Inconsiderate and unaware that passengers may have people and responsibilities waiting and depending on a specific arrival time. We didn't land until 10:50pm. On the way back to San Diego on flight 1858, we were supposed to leave at 9:30am. It is 9:39am now and the estimated departure is now 10:15am. This is ridiculous, I have heard no updates from the staff. No announcements. I have meetings and appointments in San Diego. People depending on me. And again, inconsiderate and unapologetic. Time is THE MOST VALUABLE COMMODITY in the world. Something you CANNOT PAY BACK. You STEAL this from people like its nothing. From PAYING CUSTOMERS, and you expect them to keep coming back? Not me. I will never fly southwest again. I don't know how you stay in business. Unbelievable. P.S. It is now 9:43 and I still have not heard any announcement from the crew. No updates. read more

I can not believe the service I received from Southwest. The day before I flew home for the holidays, I purchased a canvas print as a Christmas present to my mother, and I called before hand to see if it would be best to ship it or if I could check it at the airport. I was guaranteed that the print should get there okay. Fast forward to my landing, I got off the plane and I see the box containing my canvas, dented, ripped, and the frame was broken in two places. I spoke to the front desk and they wouldn't help at all, I called that night and I kept getting transfered to different departments who offered no help, I called the local airports baggage claim multiple times and they never returned my calls, to this day they still haven't, and when I finally went back to the airport to see someone about my print, they spoke to me as a child. Their exact words were "Sweetie, should and would have different meanings. If they said that the painting should get to its final destination safely, that doesn't mean it would." I understand that accidents happen, but this service was horrible and degrading. read more
