Tucked into a nondescript strip in Parma, this compact eatery packs about 12 small tables and a swath of bar seating atop an open-concept kitchen area, allowing the aroma of rotating gyro meat to waft throughout. The kitchen appears to specialize in a heretofore-non-existent form of Greek-Irish fusion cooking, answering the question no one was asking, "What if a Greek taverna and an Irish pub had a baby that served breakfast?" The dining room is decorated with a retro-kitsch chrome-and-tchotchke scheme. On my most recent visit I ordered the special of the day, a Gyro Hash, and it was hands-down the best breakfast I've had all year! In fact, I'd recommend ordering whatever the daily special is when you go because it's always outstanding! Favorites in the past have included a Barbacoa Hash and Corned Beef Benedict. The service is polite; ambient noise level is moderate; coffee is as expected for a diner. If you're anywhere on the SE side of town, it's 100% worth a stop! read more

I love this little diner! I go to Southside at least 4 times a month. My go to is the breakfast burrito! The service is excellent, servers always friendly and helpful and the food never takes longer than 15 mins to come out. This place is really cool. I've driven past it hundreds of times and actually never noticed it until I wanted to find it. The inside is like an old-timey diner, with license plates from every state hanging on the walls and really limited seating. We were fortunate to come by on a Sunday at 1130 and were seated right away. I was impressed with the menu! I decided to go with the peanut butter and Nutella pancakes. They were sweet and delicious and just what I was looking for that morning. Yummm. I love a good, quality serving of pancakes on a Sunday and this place nailed it. The only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars was for the service. They acted like we were just another inconvenience coming by on a Sunday. Awkward. When in Cleveland you have to eat latke and corned beef right? We stumbled upon the south side diner and shared the corned beef ruben with potato latkes and a gyro. Their sign did suggest they have the best corned beef and Gyro. I was delighted by the taste of my sandwich and my better half enjoyed his gyro. Both the sandwich and gyro were piled high with meat. Maybe I'm a "food snob," I don't know, but I can't give this place the same rating I'd give a 5 diamond restaurant. It was ok, definitely a "diner" feel, but I've been to better diners with breakfast food. Nothing makes me want to come back here. It was standard, slightly above average. I did like that you could add fruit to the French toast. I didn't care for the way the home fries were smashed. Other than that, the eggs were good, and the toast and coffee were nothing special. I might come back, but I could as easily go to Bob Evans or Denny's and be just as happy. I'd probably rather go to iHop, and that's not good, you've got to beat those places to get 4-5 stars. read more

This is less than 10 minutes from my home. I have gotten almost everything on the menu. The first thing I tried was their breakfast burrito and it was amazing. Top 3 breakfast item. Barbacoa hash, bacon egg quesadilla, chicken and waffles. The downtowner sandwich is unreal. Burgers, hotdogs, gyros, literally have never had a bad experience. Came up to see nephews play hockey and after a very early game wanted breakfast. Found this place on Yelp and described it to our 9 year old nephew as a popular "hole in the wall". Spent the 10 minute ride from the rink explaining what that meant. Driving past it, accidentally helped our definition, Service was quick and friendly. Our 9 year old had 2 questions : 1) Do you know this is a hole in the wall; 2) how fast can we greet our food? Our waitress did not miss a beat saying "Yes we are quite proud of our little hole in the wall and why don't you time us on your phone" Exactly 12 minutes 24 seconds the order for all 8 of us arrived, correct and hot. Before that all the drinks were served. The corned beef stack was unique and really good - an egg on top of Swiss cheese, on top of sauerkraut, on top of delicious corned beef on top of their specialty potato pancake. Nephews wolfed down French toast and bacon and proceeded to steal whatever bacon had not yet been consumed off other plates. Breakfast sandwiches were big and good. I drive by this place quite often and I never think to stop here. My best friend and I stopped in around 11:30am for breakfast after a night of drinking. Walking in, I noticed immediately the cozy, old-school diner feel, which excited me even more. It was packed, so I also took that as a good sign. We got some of the last two seats up at the counter. The menu was extensive and included a lot of items one would not normally think to have at places like this. My eyes immediately fell to the Breakfast Tacos, and so I ordered them. WOW! So much flavor packed into a breakfast dish, aesthetically-pleasing, and huge portions! The Tacos had chorizo, pepper jack, eggs, onions, and chipotle sauce. The flavors blended well together, and of course the plate of home fries complemented them very well. I agree with the "why is this place rated so high" Typical greasy spoon diner with poor service I've been here at least 6 or 7 times & the service is consistently poor. The server we've had a couple times always seems irritated to be there & it's really off putting With the open style kitchen area, you'd think the place would be way cleaner. This is a great diner and it's as simple as that! We usually regular Steve's Diner in Brooklyn but decided to try something new and we were not disappointed. We went on Halloween and one server was dressed as if she was right out of the 60's and made for a unique first experience. We got the French toast, meat lovers omelette, and the breakfast taco's. All were fantastic. My mother is from the South and loves her grits and she was very much satisfied with her bowl. The breakfast tacos.....a must for anyone! Southside Diner is the perfect little classic fast casual diner breakfast spot. My family was referred here by a friend but now with our daughter living in Parma it's quickly become one of our new favorite spots for a fast quick delicious breakfast. The portions are ample and the service is speedy Thus far we have never had to wait more than 10 minutes to get seated although I worry that with the tiny size of the diner that the wait could be longer at times. We have enjoyed everything from traditional eggs, meat, potatoes, toast to some great specials including a Cinnabon French toast, breakfast burrito and delicious biscuits with sausage gravy. Thus far food has been 5 stars. The prices are fair and food is very good so that will keep us coming back. On our first visit the waitress was amazing great personality great energy just a delight. However on the next visit we had a young woman who seemed annoyed at any questions my daughter asked. I would definitely recommend Southside for breakfast and definitely worth driving a bit out if your way for well priced large portions of good breakfast food. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The theme is Elvis, James Dean, etc. The menu is breakfast thru to dinner. I tried three eggs scrambled with bacon and tomatoes. The food was very fresh and tasty. The bacon was thick cut peppered, incredible. The coffee was great and the service staff was fantastic. I love eating, it's a sin of mine that I need to control. And whenever breakfast is presented to me, I will say yes. So when Sasha said "Let's finally go to Southside", I was all in. We'd seen their lot be full before and the reviews on here definitely do them justice. Their menu is expansive, with a little for everyone. Now, let's get this out of the way. They have peppered bacon, and man peppered bacon is my sh*t, even though I got their kitchen sink. Which is basically a clusterf*ck of everything you can imagine to put in an omelette, just scrambled. Oddly enough, I did these as a pre-teen and I really missed them. Obviously someone on a good flat top made it perfectly. Fresh onions and peppers made it amazing with ham, bacon, sausage and some good home fries. My son had their french toast, and if he likes your French toast, you're doing something right. I'd love to go back for lunch (which is why it's only 4 stars as of right now). Enough of the food though, let's talk about the homely atmosphere. It's cozy, and definitely a place that has regulars. I'd consider myself a pretty big diner fan. Formally I've been a Whip girl and a diehard Mayfield Eat At Joes fan. Southside has stolen my heart. From the outside it looks small. From the inside, it's timy. But even in close quarters you get some space. My boyfriend and I sat at a window bench table built for 2 and had plenty of room to put down coats and my purse and get comfy. During our breakfas, 3 waitress came by with coffee and water and to check on us. All were very friendly. My boyfriend had a cup of coffee which he says tasted a little old but nothing to complain about. We both ordered the bagel breakfast sandwich with hash browns. It was delicious. Instead of stacking everything on top the plain bagel, it was a 2 egg omelet with America cheese and cut sausage links folded in. I can't believe I never thought of doing that, it all stayed together so much better. The hash browns were also very good, they were in slices, not strings. Both meals were under $10 each. There were a lot of people there but we had no problem getting a seat and our food was out in no time. Nice little diner. This is one of those little places that timing counts to be able to find a seat. But the food is worth it: great taste and easy on the wallet. My son was super excited to get his Mickey pancake with bacon. And I was super excited to get crispy cooked hash browns since most diners struggle with that.
