Key West is the southernmost spot in the US, so what's more appropriate than staying at the Southernmost resort. This is a large resort on the small island, with 4 swimming pools, a beach and plenty of amenities. We stayed in the Southernmost Inn- Duval Gardens which was located about a 7 minute walk from the main resort, but on Duval Street, closer to the main attractions of the downtown strip. Duval Gardens had its own private pool, and our room was one of three that was a poolside room. A beach bag, and towels are provided in each room, which is super thoughtful and helpful for beach days (and a few less things to pack!) The room was spacious and had a refrigerator and a coffee maker. Breakfast is included every morning on the beachfront patio, back at the main resort. We really liked all the options and location of our stay, and of course basically having a private pool since all the other pools were crowded. We wanted to stay at a hotel with beach access or at least close proximity to the beach, but based on our experience and the price, this property was absolutely not worth it. I specifically reserved a beach-facing room, but instead we were placed in the Avalon Bed & Breakfast section. Our flight was delayed, and we didn't arrive until around 11 PM. After completing check-in and receiving our room information, the front desk casually mentioned that they had "one room available facing the water" and asked if we wanted to pay for an upgrade. At that point we were too exhausted to argue, so we declined. The room and bathroom were extremely small and outdated. The furniture felt old, the water pressure was terrible, and there were barely any hooks in the bathroom to hang wet clothes or swimwear. Even the hair dryer was weak and barely functional. On our second day, we stayed in the room a little later than usual, and housekeeping entered while aggressively slamming the door as they changed towels. Then on our third morning, my husband found a huge roach in the bathroom. I'm highly allergic to roaches, which made the situation even worse. When we reported the issue to the front desk during checkout, the employee barely seemed concerned. He gave a fake apologetic smile and simply said he would "let management know." Since then, we have received no follow-up whatsoever. The pools were also much smaller than expected. The main oceanfront pool was overcrowded because guests from all the Southernmost B&Bs, guesthouses, and the main hotel were all sharing the same facilities. On top of that, seaweed covered a large stretch of the beach, making water access unpleasant. The only real positive is the location -- everything is within walking distance, including restaurants, bars, shops, and museums. However, for the price, you can easily find another hotel that is more intimate, better maintained, and far more affordable. read more

Amazing resort exceptionally clean. Only downside is the price and all the extra fees. When you charge over $500 per night then tack on an extra $50 for parking and $65 for daily resort fees it's getting kinda stupid. If you don't mind the price you will love the resort. read more

We were upgraded to a gorgeous room in Le Mar and Dewey building. It has a wraparound porch and ocean views. The room was clean and the bed and the shower facilities were excellent. There was a lot of seaweed but there was no way for the hotel to control that. read more

Terrible service. We paid $16,500 MXN ($917 USD) for just one night. They sent us to rooms far from the pool and restaurant areas. They told us we had a pool, and it was a JOKE it is a mini pool. This place has it all! It has the beach, several pools, (one is headed) and lots of chances to party. The rooms are very large and the beds are comfortable. It's conveniently located near most places that are walk-able so you don't need a car. This resort seems to go-on forever. The food and drinks were well made. The party pool had live DJ and live music everyday. Plenty of chairs on the beach and they don't up-charge for the lounge chairs. There was an activity calendar for every day that you could choose to do everything or nothing at all. They also have a person who can drive you to local places near the hotel. We just got back from this resort and had a really great time. Positives: Location was excellent. Very friendly staff who were very helpful. We had picked the cheapest room possible ("comfy queen") and were pleasantly surprised when upgraded to a king (thank goodness) at check-in. Front desk people were very helpful securing taxis and making a small correction on out bill. Love the fruit-infused water on the lobby. They always had pool towels available in the early morning hours (before 7 am). Three pools were all very nice. Although small, the Beach area was very nice, spent most of our time there. Housekeeping was very good and most days they were done with our room before 10 am. The activities every day that were clearly posted and sent via text message as well- these activities are included as part of the resort fee. We chose to pre-pay for breakfast at the resort cafe and I beleive that was a smart move and we got more than our money's worth in bacon alone. Wait staff was very friebdly and service was good (this includes the guy at the walk-up coffee place that opens before the restaurant. Negatives: REALLY expensive so be prepared. Like all hotels, the price you end up paying is not what's quoted on the website. There are always many taxes added to your room rate: city tax, state tax, occupancy tax. All are legal taxes and travelers should expect to pay them. If you don't travel a lot this can be shocking when you check out. For the money we paid, we expected a nicer room. There wasn't anything wrong with it but it was not as nice as expected for the cost. Be prepared that this is not a gated resort and anyone can walk through. There is even a public road that seperates portions of the property from one another. There is a flood of cruise ship people in the area daily. Some non-guests came through one of the pool areas and staff chased them away. Guests can easily be identified by the key/bracelets worn, suggest all guest wear at all times. The beach area is also public. The chairs and umbrellas belong to the resort. Only issue we expereinced is that the resort hosted a wedding and on that day all the beach chairs were smushed to the side and no umbrellas allowed. The resort person in charge of the beach area was unpleasant to the resuort guests who were really confused what was happening as all our stuff was being moved about. This could have been avoided if the resort had sent a text message to all guests setting expecations for the day. Letting people know what the limits were at the beach that day would have avoided frustration for everyone. Chairs at Pinapple and shores pool were not comfortable. For people who get up early, there is no place to go and if your roommate is still asleep there are no options as coffee shops in the area don't even think about opening until 7. They need add some indoor seating somewhere for people to gather and maybe provide some free coffee, like the hampton inn. I did not enjoy seeing trash in the walkway, likely it was from housekeeping. Someone should police the area and pick up those small pieces of trash. read more

This place is a disaster! They charge top end prices but the property is poorly managed and maintained. It took 7 hours to switch rooms with me (the guest) waiting in the lobby due to "policy procedures" while paying $1,000 per day at first and changing rooms, $700.00 per day. They refused access to a room we knew was vacant and cleaned until the housekeeping manager confirmed the room was vacant and cleaned? They then wanted me to check in again after checking out including filling out a second check in questionnaire even though they had the forms in their system. It is not possible to discuss anything with a person of responsibility as the staff blocks contact and communication by saying no one is available. Today we were out for 4 hours and on returning found the room had not been cleaned or beds made. The housekeeper was in the hall but did not speak English or Spanish or any other language we could discover. That said she did indicate she had cleaned when that was not the case. Because my wife took out the trash & picked up towels from Housekeeping cart. Someone at the front desk (name Lazon) indicated she would not connect me with housekeeping and she wanted to send someone to clean, but we were not open to that at this point of the day as we had been out all day and after the waste of our time the previous day simply wanted to relax. Towel hooks broken, ice machine doesn't work on this floor, TV sound cuts in and out, and we have just been told that housekeeping staff only comprehends " Yes & No", and we need to notify them when we are going out so they can clean? Unhappy in Paradise !! I recently stayed at the Southernmost Beach Resort in Key West. Dates January 30th - February 3rd. Unfortunately, my experience did not quite meet my expectations. I couldn't get the hotel to fix the problems. I paid $4383.82 for 4 nights! The hotel was dirty especially the grounds; the drains didn't drain; the TV wasn't working; the glass shower was coming apart; the door had a noticeable gap; the floor wasn't mopped ever, smelled of mildew and mold in the shower, outdoor furniture was in bad condition, food was just okay, the room floor plan was awful, especially the bathroom, which could hardly be moved. Back a 3rd time. Amazing experience! We had the same room in the 8000 block, bottom floor, front door overlooking ocean for ocean view rate. Love that there's a few pools to choose from. Great music and lively entertainment. Do not recommend the food at the bars. Not appetizing at all and we tried a few things. Check in wait was long again and room wasn't ready until 3 when we requested early check in, but we were able to request specific rooms, so that was good. Lost count how many times we've stayed on the Southernmost campus (as it's grown) over our 30+ years coming to Key West. Can't seem to get away from LaMer Dewey House, old world bed and breakfast feel, steps away from pool, beach, excellent beachfront restaurant, private breakfast veranda(w/very talented omelette chef), sunset pier. However, as it's been bought out several times, it's now very corporate, fees on top of fees, pool is locked out at night (which is only access to ice machine, unless you count the one that doesn't work), and prices through the roof. If we come back to KW we'll probably stay here, but we're on a quest to find a Southernmost-like place resembling what this one started out to be. read more

If you enjoy fees, boy this is the place for you! Fees totaling almost $130/night on top of a $500/night room that's as big as a closet. $68/night amenities fee even if you don't use anything, $46/night to park on the property. I'd understand paying to park if parking was scarce, but the parking lots seemed pretty empty when we were there. Our pillows had stains on them, and the bathroom fixtures had rust. Our light in our room would randomly turn on/off all the time (I assume the remotes are the same frequencies as the neighbors). The staff was friendly, and our room got serviced each day. We will probably stay elsewhere on our next trip. I wouldn't call this place a resort. read more

This is what I wanted to know before booking this hotel in Key West. The trick with booking this hotel is making sure you get a building and location with Ocean view. If you don't get the right building and view you could get a balcony overlooking a parking lot. We were in the Atlantic building (6000's) two balconies away from the water. Not ocean front but ocean view and it was fantastic. My parents were in the 8000 building and had ocean front and a private balcony next to the pool. I loved being close to duval street and near great restaurants like Louie's Backyard, Banana cafe, La Te Da, and so close to jet ski access as well across the street from the Trolley stop and diagnal from the butterfly museum. You also have a cuban cafe and local grocery across the street. On paper it looks like this resort is too big and distant but once you walk around you realize everything is closer than you think and easy to get everywhere by foot. I liked the beach and hammock area. Bars near the pool serve drinks and food. I had the Cuban panini... so good. Hiccups: Horrible service with regards to room cleanings. At 9:30am a woman walked into our room to clean. We asked her to come back after 10:30. She did not return but did put some towels and 2 waters in a trash bag outside our door. This resort is expensive. I expected more than a trash bag by the door. They didn't sweep our room the entire time nor wiped down the bathroom. This place has ants, so keep any food tightly packaged. We used the QR code like they requested to get items such as clean coffee cups and another blanket. Nada. No one ever responded or delivered anything from the QR code. Front desk didn't pick up. We had to walk to the front desk to request items. We made our own bed and just got by. We are not high maintenance but again..... this place is expensive so we hoped for far better service. Check Your Bill Carefully If You Stay Here I rarely leave negative reviews but people should know what to expect from this hotel. We stayed in March 2026 for two nights and experienced issues in two different rooms. The first room had sand tracked throughout when we checked in and a malfunctioning AC unit that ran extremely loudly all night. The second room had an alarm going off every ninety minutes through the night, a nonfunctioning phone, and a broken deadbolt. Two nights with almost no sleep. We asked the hotel first desk for help, but they didn't care. Their billing practices are even more concerning. We booked directly through the hotel's website, which listed the room at $795 per night including the amenity fee. However, no confirmation email with the booked rate was ever sent. When the final bill arrived after checkout, the nightly rate was $1,109 per night. If you book on their website, take a screenshot of the rate shown during booking because during checkout you will be billed much more. When our departure flight was delayed we were told via text that late checkout was available for $50 through 2pm, yet we were later charged $281. At no point was luggage storage offered as an alternative. Between check in, resolving issues, and checkout discussions I spent over two hours standing in line at the front desk. For a property charging these rates, this level of maintenance, service, and billing transparency is unacceptable. I'm sharing this so future guests know what to watch for. What you SEE is not what you get. Great location, but the online photos are not current... at all! The lush green grass that is shown, is no longer lush. The pool areas all need to be power washed as they are really dirty. The grounds need maintenance! The roosters start crowing at dawn, but don't worry, you will already be awake as the air conditioning unit is so loud that the use of ear plugs won't help. The chairs around the pool areas are horrible. Nothing is clean! If you stay where we did, there is no deck or porch to enjoy a quiet moment, and watch out for the chicken poop which is everywhere!! I asked for wine glasses and was told they didn't have any, finally found an awesome bartender in the restaurant and she gave them to me. The pool (up by the beach area) bartender has zero personality and the " serenity pool" is just tragic. The cushions are faded and torn and need to be replaced. You will pay, DEARLY, for parking and the daily resort fee. The restaurant was wonderful and the staff worked so hard there, but in all other locations, they seem to hate their jobs, with the exception of those leading pool activities. We originally booked at the Duvall Gardens, not realizing they are FOUR blocks away, then upgraded for an additional $100 plus fees a night for the rooms closer. If you want "Four Star" accommodations, stay elsewhere. read more

I stayed for a family vacation. I searched on line throughly. Many ads offered the guest houses of this resort with free parking that looked lovely. Beware when you get there you need to pay $50 per day in parking plus they don't tell you many of the guest houses are not near the beach for us it was a car ride to breakfast and the beach. The front desk did not offer all the info we needed no info book in the room. Plus call first in the keys they have seaweed season and you cannot use the beach. They need to up their game on exterminating before guests occupy the rooms in the guest houses. Florida is buggy. Plus no wifi or TV for 3 days. So disappointed. read more

I have never been to Key West, but after staying at the Southernmost Beach Resort I can not wait to go back. It felt like we were on a remote exotic island outside of United States. I normally do not do lists for my Yelp reviews, but for this one, I think it will work. Positives...The location close to Duval Street is wonderful, some people might not like the layout of the hotel but we loved the different places with different amenities, our room was in the best place...7205, we loved the pools, it is the best pool food I have ever had, the gym was small but really nice especially the Peloton machines, the lobby was beautiful and the fruit water tasted great, we loved being able to rent the bikes straight from the hotel, having our rooms cleaned everyday with new towels felt great because not many hotels have done that since 2020, and the complementary water and ice by all the pools was a little thing that goes along way. Negatives...this is not the hotels fault but the seaweed smelled bad most days and horrible the last day, the lounge chairs at the Pineapple pool, for me, were incredibly uncomfortable, we were there during the Masters and the TVs at the pool were not all working, the floor in our hotel room was incredibly dirty...our feet were black by the end of the night, and the tanning pier was a little bit of an eyesore. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, and it would be incredibly hard not to stay here the next time I am in Key West. read more

Health Warning: Mold & Misleading Photos This was supposed to be our 19th wedding anniversary trip--our first real vacation in 8 years--and it turned into a complete nightmare. We booked through Expedia and stayed in the "Atlantic" building. The entire room reeked of mold, which triggered my asthma and my husband's sinuses. I have a diagnosed mold allergy and we both left sick with sore throats and stuffed noses. When I reported the smell, the staff dismissed it as "seaweed." We were not offered a new room. The beach? Completely unusable--covered in seaweed, trash, and foul-smelling water. No warning was given. The resort smelled like raw sewage, and the beach photos on Expedia and their website were absolutely misleading. What we got was a shared walkway, not a private balcony. Also--TV was broken, pools were cloudy, and the beds were like sleeping on bricks. We checked out early because we physically couldn't tolerate it any longer. If you have asthma, allergies, autoimmune issues, or children, I strongly advise against staying here until this property is fully renovated and mold remediated. Their response to my legitimate health complaint was dismissive and scripted. Do not book without calling and confirming beach access and room conditions. I wouldn't return here for free. read more

Nice place but the fees and taxes added up to $150 per night. Crazy! The location was great but they don't offer any bicycles, you have to rent them for $15 per day. We come to Key West often, sometimes twice a year and on our last visit, while walking to Lousie's Backyard, we passed this waterfront resort and really liked how it looked. It's quite large and also had a few pools, nice beach, and the attention to detail (upkeep mainly) appealed to us, so we decided to stay here on this most recent trip. We selected the Le Mar house, which is sort of like a B&B with your own bathroom in each room. The house's décor is excellent... the upkeep is equally as nice! We heard that these houses (the Le Mar and the Dewey) were recently renovated and we could tell, as everything was shiny and clean, but overall, the staff does a nice job keeping things polished on a daily basis! The bed was comfy and the bathroom was spacious and nicely tiled. The shower pressure wasn't that great, plus it took forever to get hot water to the shower head, but we didn't mind, as it was so clean and nice and the shower was still effective. They have a nice selection of soaps/shampoo called Bee Nice, which offered a nice smell and effective wash. The towels were soft, clean, and kept stocked up in our bathroom. The décor in the room itself was beautiful and reminded us we were at the beach. The only issue with the room itself was that the TV uses WiFi to connect and it was horrible. We like to fall asleep and wake up to the TV, but it kept buffering and mostly didn't work. Plus, there was no sleep function accessible from the remote. The resort offers 3 pools... We chose the tranquility pool the first day, which was nice until a group of loud mouth guys got in and just became very obnoxious. They ran off most of the couples there by being condescending in a southern tone and constantly telling each other to hush as this was the tranquility pool, yet being on opposite sides of the pool to constantly yell back and forth... Juveniles! These types of people are generally why we don't like large resorts like this, they're often loaded with people to drink too much and don't know how to act. So, the next day we opted for the Shores pool, which is definitely a lot louder, as it's got music playing, about 5 times more people in it, a bar, and even live music a few hours each day. But the guests were all much more pleasant in this pool and we enjoyed being here a lot more. Plus, this pool is huge, so it's easier to spread out and have more space in the pool, with plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas too. The only issue here were the 3 different guitar singers that came in each of 3 different days... they were all horrible! (Note to resort - save your money, just play the regular music from the speakers, yacht rock was great, but these guitarists were very bad!) The report offers full service at this pool with a full food & drink menu. They also have a spa, which is location just off the side of this larger pool too. Housekeeping on point! She would notice when we left the room to go to the pool and she'd refresh our room, making it smell citrus fresh too! I left out checking in, but that too was friendly and efficient. They gave us a ride to our room and took our luggage up. The one thing I wish they would offer is a ride down to the "downtown" area of Duval, as it's pretty hot and to walk 7/10th of a mile every time you want to go out is a bit much, especially for those in heels. We noticed that the staff was always cleaning and keeping things straight around the resort. There were painters constantly touching up and it was evident, as there was hardly any rotted wood railing or chipped paint to be found... Again, great attention to detail! Lastly, the resort did a great job keeping in touch... sending texts throughout the day telling us what was coming up. They had plenty of activities, some looked really fun and the entire staff was very engaging. We'd definitely return here! read more

If you like sea weed closing the beach and the stench so strong you can smell it in your room than Southernmost is the place to go. Hotel says it's the Mayor's fault. But all the adjacent beaches have cleared it out and their guests can swim in the ocean. Not Southernmost. No one even sits on the beach due to the smell. The water pressure in the rooms so low you barely can take a shower. Hotel needs a dramatic refurbishing. Very tired and dated. Clean and great staff but resort maybe 3 star at best. I had stayed here many years ago and loved it so decided to try it again for our Labor Day weekend/birthday trip. I had Amex points to use and settled on an oceanview room as that's what I had stayed in before. The place has definitely expanded since my last stay. The front desk staff was super nice and acknowledged by birthday. She even looked for an upgrade but there were no oceanfronts available. She did give us a super nice room in the sunset building with a private balcony which was much appreciated! The room itself was clean, spacious and comfortable. We had a nice view of the beach and the pool. I personally like this end of Duval since it isn't quite as busy. It also forces us to get out exercise walking down to Mallory Square and that area. It was just as nice as I remembered and I'd definitely go back. read more

Completely unorganized resort. Our room had no dresser or drawers of any kind. Housekeeping was very inconsistent, no enforcement of posted rules. (Kids in the adults only pool, smoking on the non-smoking private beach, topless women all over the resorts beach and pool, regardless of families with kids or people eating at the restaurant at the beach. Hotel staff doesn't appear to care about much of anything.) The resorts main pool was opened to the public one full day occupying every open seat and the whole pool, even though we were all still charged the resort fee that day anyway. The resort was beautiful and convenient to everything, however I booked a room with a side view of the ocean, and upon checking in, my room was across the street from the ocean. The amenities came at a high price that I didn't expect to have to pay for. Had to pay almost $50.00 a day to park the car in their parking lot, coffee, toiletries, beach towels was also an upcharge even if you didn't use them Never got a washcloth the whole time we stayed , ask 3 times for them. Hand towels had to get myself off the cleaning cart that was parked on the sidewalk, No washcloths on the cart :( So a 4 night stay was an additional $435.00 just for those amenities, that should have been explained when booking. So beware of hidden charges when booking online at the Southernmost Beach Resort. read more

Disorganized and understaffed, especially the front desk. We waited in line for an hour to check in , just standing in the small lobby with dozens of other people and their suitcases, in puddles of the fruit-infused water that some guests had spilled. Although there were three front desk stations, only two of them were manned, despite the fact that it is high season. Clearly the resort doesn't want to pay a third person to work during busy times. Another problem: besides just checking people in, the limited front desk staff had also been instructed to ask if anyone had ANY other questions, such as restaurant recommendations, things to do, bicycle rental, boat trips. There is a "concierge" button on the phone but clearly the position had not been filled. Once checked in, the guests stood at the front desk forever, asking questions that should have been answered by a concierge. Deafening music coming from the pools at all hours of the day and sometimes night, penetrating the rooms . Mediocre food. No reliable communication between the bars and the kitchen as ordered food frequently never arrived. read more

We had delays and cancellations our entire travel day only to arrive at Southernmost to our reserved room unavailable due to a maintenance issue. The manager Jody-Kay empathized with our day of bad luck and put us in a beautiful oceanfront room. She was empathetic and personable. She also gifted us with other much-appreciated amenities. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and spreading my brother's ashes in Key West where he lived and loved. Jody and her staff were friendly and accommodating. Location, Location, Location. they have their own private beach. very comfortable, very clean heritage property in excellent central location right on the beach and centre of Old Town. Lovely verandah, garden and pool. Very good breakfast. Very helpful staff. Parking was on site and very good. minutes walk to the Southernmost point buoy. read more
