I hired SNECS to manage my network back in March of 2018, SNEC of Lincoln RI. Simply stated, they were to update, backup and insure the smooth running of our computer network. After an initial fee of to install the upgrades they felt I needed to do that, it would cost approximately $750 per month. At the final meeting when I said I wanted to try this kind of service, I signed a blank i-pad screen with a signature box (like what were common at the time) and was told that it was so they could charge my credit card for the services rendered. I stated at the time that I would rather pay them by check but they said this was more compatible for their automatic system. I really did not think much of that as that is how my webpage host company worked and frankly a lot of my vendors.
Their service turned out to be a nightmare. Registers down on busy days, computers not communicating to each other, and worst of all, it happened on weekends and their promised 24/7 service was not true. After my last major meeting with them (this is in July) I warned them that they were in danger of losing my business because of the countless problems. Their supervisor then threatened me that I could not do that as they had a contract. I said I most certainly did not. I didn't even have a contract with Waste Management why would I have one with them. Anyway, they left that meeting and vowed to make corrections and promptly the next weekend we lost registers again. They then said that I needed to invest $6000 more.
They had a portal system that every month they would refer you to in order to get a copy of their bill. It was password protected and I was not given the password. I thought little of it because the bills were exactly as they outlined. Now I demanded the password. I saw my bills and reviews.
I realized that I had made a terrible mistake and instead of making my computer systems run smoother and absorb less of my time, it was way worse. I sent a letter to SNEC stating that I no longer needed their services (and outlined the reasons) and cancelled their right to automatically charge my credit card.
I then received a letter from SNEC stating that I could not do that and a copy of a 31 page contract - unsigned and/or un initialed, of course.
For the next year or so, I would be contacted by various debt collection services throughout the country. Each one of them I responded to with the facts and I never heard from them again. I heard in January from a Warwick Attorney and I responded that I wanted a copy of the signed contract because I not only never saw a contract, I most certainly never signed one. I received no response. Then I received an e-mail from an organization in Washington that said a suit had been filed in RI Supreme Court. I called the Supreme Court and they said nothing was filed. Then I was served, and I finally got a copy of what happened.
I only signed one document, one for my credit card. And SNEC imbedded that signature on a broad declarations page saying I agreed to a contract. It is my opinion, that that is Fraud and is illegal.
