Stopped for lunch one day while in Cullman. We missed the lunch rush, place was pretty empty…read more Server was very friendly and efficient. She appeared to be handling the whole front by herself, but made us feel like we were the only ones there. Decor is like that of a "RoadHouse" feel. Apparently they have live music on a posted schedule. Looked like that would be a fun time to visit. Options were standard southern style meat and three options or menu choices. Wife had vegetable plate, I had the pulled pork plate. Bar-B-Que was tender and flavorful. Not bad for a non specialist Bar-B-Que restaurant. 2 flavors of sauce on the table, a sweet and spicy sauce, either would be an excellent choice. There were only 2 meat options offered, don't know if that's the norm, or we were there so late after lunch they had sold out of other options. Will definitely be back there again. I would like to try and catch one evening with the live music is scheduled.

Not bad but not great…read more Had the FGBLT (fried green tomato BLT). It's an interesting take on the traditional BLT. The bacon overpowered everything else. The fries are gross. Greasy with an odd sweet seasoning? Like paprika blended with sugar. Kiddo had the chicken club. He really liked it. The addition of pimento cheese was interesting in a good way. He did not eat his fries, this kid always eats his fries. I liked the vibe of the place, they do live music and that's cool. The service (or lack thereof) is the reason for the 3-star rating. Our server vanished. Never once checked on us, we had to wait 15 minutes after eating for our check. It was so bad that we had to wave down another server to finally get the check.

talk about a comeback…read more The Southern Table staff and management sought to ensure we had a great experience this time and excelled. Great customer service and I greatly appreciate their accountability/ willingness to make up for our previous visit. Last night we started with the crab croquettes, STELLAR. Absolutely loved and devoured these. The crunch on the croquette was to die for, topped with a refreshing crab salad, perfect. For my entree, I had the lamb rack with house potatoes & broccolini. My boyfriend had the blackened catfish with the grits. Both dishes were phenomenal . To finish up we tried their new chocolate strawberry bread pudding, so rich and delicious. This restaurant is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Northern Alabama. Go give them a try! We'll 100% be back.

One description said this had a hunting lodge atmosphere. I suppose that's true If your hunting…read morelodge looks like an early 20th century brick building with a few deer heads grouped in one spot on the wall and a small black bear above the door. This seemed to want to be a foodie destination. The half, fried chicken included a small drumstick, small wing, piece of breast, and another piece that was unidentifiable but might have been a thigh. It had a spicy sweet sauce covering, which we opted to have on the side. That was a good choice because the hint of cayenne was still too much for one diner. We asked about the slaw -- whether it had a cream or vinegar dressing. The server described it as a "creamy vinegar." It made no difference because the dressing was so understated that the side tasted more like chopped cabbage than anything else. Disappointing. Finally, I asked the server whether the grilled green beans were actually that. I was more curious than anything else because grilled green beans would take longer to cook. She said yes, they were grilled. I don't think so. They came out fairly quickly and were pretty universally blackened all over like they were cooked in a skillet. Once our food was delivered, we never saw our server again until I asked for the check. So, what I believe was intended to be an elevated dining experience was simply under executed.

Service was quick and cheerful from all the staff. I had the fried catfish, baby lima beans, fried okra, and hush puppies. Spouse had shrimp basket, hush puppies, and homemade potato chips. As you can see, multiple fried foods. Fried okra is how I test "country" cooking. This was the best fried okra I have had in years. The catfish, shrimp and hush puppies were all excellent. It seems like they use a very light oil, but however, they do it the results are crunchy, non-greasy and bring out the flavor of the food. The way frying is meant to do. Very light breading but just enough. The baby lima beans were excellent. So many times I've had side orders that tasted just like they were scooped out of a 5 gallon can of Sysco product. I could be wrong, maybe it was the very very mild seasoning, but these did not seem commercial. A few caveats. There was a single catfish fillet and it was quite small. I recall getting the catfish fillet meal at the old Gibson's on the Parkway before it burned down. Two large fillets. But actually they could not compare to this. Hush puppies were excellent, I like more onions in them. But that's my preference. But for me, this does not takeoff from the overall five star rating, which I rarely give on a first visit. If you like country food, by all means go here. We will be back.

Our waiter came to our table and gave us some suggestions. I had the chicken and dumplings with a side of fried okra and sweet potato casserole. The dumplings were a little on the cold side, but were delicious. I could've eaten another bowl of that dish. The okra was extra crispy, just how I like it and the sweet potato casserole reminded me of Thanksgiving. The restaurant was clean and it was a nice size. It looks like it used to be a Ruby Tuesday or something similar. All in all, great visit to Walton's!

Our group of four visited on a Saturday afternoon and found plenty of open seating…read more The restaurant has a lovely Southern charm décor and a calm, relaxed vibe--perfect for enjoying conversation with friends. Service was friendly but a bit inexperienced. Our waitress wasn't sure about some menu details (such as whether the vegetables were cooked with meat or meat stock) and forgot one side order. The food itself was a mixed experience. The sides reminded me of cafeteria-style fare (similar to Piccadilly's). The macaroni and cheese tasted like it came from a box, with a liquid cheese sauce, and my meal arrived lukewarm. On the positive side, my husband really enjoyed his salmon croquettes, calling them "delicious." Overall, Walton's offers a pleasant, quiet atmosphere and friendly staff, but the food and service could use some polishing to match the beauty of the space.
