Stopped for lunch one day while in Cullman. We missed the lunch rush, place was pretty empty. Server was very friendly and efficient. She appeared to be handling the whole front by herself, but made us feel like we were the only ones there. Decor is like that of a "RoadHouse" feel. Apparently they have live music on a posted schedule. Looked like that would be a fun time to visit. Options were standard southern style meat and three options or menu choices. Wife had vegetable plate, I had the pulled pork plate. Bar-B-Que was tender and flavorful. Not bad for a non specialist Bar-B-Que restaurant. 2 flavors of sauce on the table, a sweet and spicy sauce, either would be an excellent choice. There were only 2 meat options offered, don't know if that's the norm, or we were there so late after lunch they had sold out of other options. Will definitely be back there again. Not bad but not great. Had the FGBLT (fried green tomato BLT). It's an interesting take on the traditional BLT. The bacon overpowered everything else. The fries are gross. Greasy with an odd sweet seasoning? Like paprika blended with sugar. Kiddo had the chicken club. He really liked it. The addition of pimento cheese was interesting in a good way. He did not eat his fries, this kid always eats his fries. I liked the vibe of the place, they do live music and that's cool. The service (or lack thereof) is the reason for the 3-star rating. I went to Puckett's around 11:00 AM and asked the host for a table for two. She told us we had to wait about 15 minutes. While waiting, I started reading Yelp reviews and noticed many people complaining about long waits even when the restaurant wasn't busy. Unfortunately, that was exactly our experience. When we finally got inside, I saw only about 3 or 4 tables with customers, so it was surprising that we had to wait that long. Since we were already there, we decided to stay and order from the lunch menu. I ordered the daily special, pulled pork with three sides, and my son ordered macaroni with beef. The food came out pretty fast. It wasn't bad, but nothing special either. I do want to mention that our waitress was very kind and provided good service, which we appreciated. If we hadn't been asked to wait 15 minutes while the restaurant was mostly empty, I probably would have given this place 4 stars. Because of that first impression, I'm giving it 3 stars. So glad we stopped here! What a cite place with great ambiance. Our server was Lexi and she was very friendly and attentive. She immediately offered our fur baby a bowl of cold water. My husband chose the brisket sandwich with potato salad snd he said both were good. He did say the brisket lacked smoke flavor, so he to use bbq to help with flavor. The spicy bbq sauce was too hot for his taste and said he preferred the sweet original (we ended up buying a bottle of it to take home). I had a side of their southern green beans, which were fantastic! Wish the serving had been bigger for the $4.95 charge. I also got an order of their fried green tomatoes off the appetizer list. In town and chose this spot for a team dinner. Was pleasantly surprised that they accepted reservations for a large group. I received a confirmation text the day I made the reservation, and a confirmation call the day of. I was really surprised how empty it was when we arrived, but it quickly filled up with other large groups and small tables. The food came out fast. It was not as hot as I like my food, but I forgave it since it was so busy. The brisket plate was good. I had a couple of margaritas that were made well. The pork was very fatty which was disappointing for two people who really prefer less fat. Daughter's Piggy Mac was very fatty and oily. I wonder if it was extra oily because of the multiple chunks of fat. The fried okra could've been more done. Reading the other reviews, order it extra crispy. The pork was delicious but I didn't realize how fatty it was until I was eating my wife's leftovers. Too much fat, seriously. The smoked brisket hamburger steak was good. Next time I'll get it with mashed potatoes instead of rice. Chicken fried chicken was delicious. If the $7.99 small salad is the same as the side salad then it is not worth it. Very mediocre. I ordered the catfish and it came with fries and mini pancakes. Catfish is a bit soggy and I ended up with really hard bones. The only reason I gave it three stars was because the piece of catfish was large. Fries are not seasoned well kinda seemed undercooked. I don't like pancakes so I didn't eat those. read more

I have to update my previous review and unfortunately I now see why they have so many bad reviews. My first visit was great, food and service were both good but tonight I just ordered a side salad and 6 wings, it took over a half hour to get my food and the wings came without the sauce I ordered and were over cooked and dry. The salad was okay must have been sitting while they were cooking the wings because the lettuce seemed to be at room temperature. I hope they can get things fixed because when they get it right it is good. One other disappointment was they are a smokehouse/bbq restaurant and they only offer ribs as a special on a couple of days a week, this should be a staple of any decent bbq place.... read more

I've passed the Puckett's billboard when I drive to and from Birmingham, but have never stopped to check them out. Today some friends from B'ham wanted to meet me halfway from their house to mine for lunch and wouldn't you know, Puckett's was slap dab in the middle. I beat them there and went to get a table. The hostess said there was a 15-20 minute wait. I've lots of friends in the restaurant biz. Several told me that they always add ten minutes to the wait time. That way, when you're called, you feel happy that it was only x minutes instead of z minutes, rather than being pissed you had to wait at all. I figured the 15-20 minute wait would be 5-10 minutes. It was closer to 30. Okay, it's Labor Day, maybe some staff are off today, but there were a lot of empty tables. We were just happy to finally be seated. Our happiness turned to annoyance when we waited another 22 minutes (Yes, I timed it) before anyone came to take our drink orders. When the server brought them I asked what the meat for the meat and three was today. Pulled Pork, which is a component of 25% of their menu. So, no meat and three. I ordered the Piggy Mac. My friends decided to share their entrees with each other. One got the strawberry salad and the other got the veggie plate. Server was back in ten minutes, but with bad news, not food. "Sorry. We're out of strawberries." My friend shrugged it off and asked for the Cobb salad instead, but with ranch instead of Balsamic. Over half an hour later our food finally arrived. We were all surprised when the server put a strawberry salad, loaded with strawberries. The veggie plate had fried okra (It's okay.") Mashed potatoes and gravy, and, I can't remember what else. My piggy mac wasn't as hot as I'd have liked but it wasn't even close to room temperature, so that's good. Now for some good news. The mac and cheese is one of the best I've had that wasn't made at home. I quite liked it. The pulled pork (I opted for that instead of brisket) was also good, but a tiny bit dry. Two bottles of BBQ sauce were right in front of me but I didn't noticed them until after I'd paid the check, so that's on me, not them. The food wasn't the best but it was by no means the worst. Good food that is served in huge portions. I had the hamburger steak that also has brisket on it. It was somewhat bland so I added some of their pepper sauce. When we first walked up to the people at the front they just stared at us for awhile. It was very awkward. We ordered Meatloaf with skillet mac and cheese and fried okra Pulled pork sandwich with skillet mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. Only thing came out hot was the fries and okra. Everything else was barely warm. The skillet mac and cheese was just mac and cheese put in a skillet. It was nearly cold. With a weird seasoning on it. The sweet tea was good. I had been to another location in Columbia several times with co-workers and glad that they have expanded into Alabama. I have been to this location twice now. First time I tried the Piggy Mac -but subbed Brisket topped with white cheddar mac n' cheese and biscuit crumbs. Second time because I liked the brisket so much I opted for the Brisket BBQ Sliders with regular fries. Both times the Brisket is very tender, moist and full of flavor. On each occasion I found it to be quite filling. I also chose the Fruit Tea for my drink on both trips because it was so good the first time. Service was very slow the first time I stopped by (the server did let me know that they were short staffed that night), the second time it was more like you would expect and reasonably attentive and prompt. Dessert Only Review ... We were out of town and decided to order a dessert from this restaurant. We ordered the Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding and ... Oh my, it was DELICIOUS!!! We would definitely give it a five 5 both in flavor and in size. My husband and I did not eat the whole thing the first night and saved some for later, and even two days down the road, it was still yummy to the tummy! Tried the "You're a Peach Tea" delicious though it's sweet and could only do 1 before switching to beer. I had the bbq pork platter and hubby had the piggy Mac. Bbq was very good crispy and tender, baked beans were fire and coleslaw was on point. The brisket was fatty hubby didn't care for it as much. Overall a good experience. Waitress was solid. Arrived at the restaurant at around 8:30, waited 15 minutes for service, NOTHING. Only 4 other tables where occupied, so not busy at all. We watched as 2 waitresses cleaned an already clean table, 3 other waitresses stood close enough to our table we could hear their whole conversation, ALL about their personal drama. NOT ONCE did any of them bother to take a drink order or even check on us. They walked right past our table several times checking on the tables that already had food, just not ours. We finally walked out and went next door to get something to eat. The only thing positive I can say is that the music was amazing, would have loved to listen to him song while we enjoyed a meal, IF we could only have received any service. My wife and I visited here for the first time recently and we were impressed with everything, the food was good, our server was fantastic, and the feel of the place was cozy. Don't go there thinking you're going to a white table cloth restaurant, you're not. But what you are going to is a place that's warm, relaxing with down home southern cooking. My wife had the brisket meatloaf, amazing. I had the chicken fried chicken, also amazing. Our server was a local girl who was very friendly and well trained. Our food was served in a timely manner and beautifully prepared. The portions were large enough that we had it again for dinner that night. They do have a full bar if you desire. What a great surprise when visiting this little town in Alabama! I thought twice about coming in based on the Yelp rating, but it was right next to my hotel and I was tired so I figured why not? Boy I'm glad I did! Let's start with the service. I sat at the bar with Emma who is a real sweetheart and super attentive! I love BBQ so I got the "Whole Farm" combo so I could try everything. The baby back ribs (usually bbq joints have St Louis spares) were surprisingly good. Dry ribs (no sauce) can be dry and chewy, but these were perfect. The fatty side of the brisket was delicious, but the flat (lean) was dry - so ask for the fatty! The pulled pork was moist, and the sausage had a nice snap. But the biggest surprise was the chicken. Nice restaurant in the Cullman area with a very cute interior aesthetic. Plenty of great menu items and friendly service. Prior to coming here, a lot of reviews mentioned dry meat but I ordered the fried catfish so I can't exactly comment on that and a lot of others I was with ordered the mac n cheese entree (forgot the name). Service was reasonable as we were a big group. Overall, a good spot for its location. Worth a try if you're staying nearby or passing through. read more
