I've been on hold for 45 mins. now except for the occasional operator that gets on the phone as the manager told her what to say. That's not that person's job...it's yours. I would steer clear of this entire group! Update....finally talked with a manager, said he would get back to me in 10 mins. Hours later I got a called but I missed it. I called him back left a mssg to return my call. No call back was ever attempted. So I again called to get answers, now the Mgr has left the dealer for a few days. When I arrived the vehicle I had called about an hour earlier was now sold. It was listed on Cargurus for 101 days and sold an hour before I arrived! QUITE a coincidence and of course they directed me to a more expensive vehicle. Beware of the "add-ons". They totaled almost $3500! They wold only take $200 off this bloated total. I walked out. The same vehicles on Carmax and Carvana are $1000's cheaper even with delivery, go figure. Good luck at this dealership. read more

I probably wouldn't recommend this place. Got a car and never signed a contract till 2 days after already having the car. Since then I've signed 4 more contracts that all changed in monthly payment. It went from 700ish to 600ish till finally 504 which I was happy with when they made me sign a new one for 832 due to a clerical issue on residual value and no longer qualifying for certain rebates anymore that brought the price down. read more

My wife and I tried to buy a new Hyundai Tucson this afternoon at your dealership in Newport News. My wife found a car she really liked, a 2025 Tucson. Sticker price was $33,000.00. Salesman, Mike, who was great to work with, indicated they could quote me a better price. Well, our salesman gets with the sales manager, who will tell us the price for which we can buy the car. My wife has health problems and was in pain. We waited and waited and waited for the sales manager to come meet with us. Finally, after waiting for over half an hour, she needed to leave due to her pain. Another salesman got ahold of Mike to let him know that we had to leave. Mike comes out with the sales manager following. The "manager" showed me the deal, which had increased by $1,000.00 over sticker due to "processing fees" and taxes. I told the manager that we had to go and that I did not like the price going up, anyway, as we went out the door. I could not get a word in edgewise as he tried to tell me that everyone had to pay taxes (duh).Of course, I am aware of taxes, it was the slew of other upcharges they were trying to add on. The bottom line here is that good sales people SHOULD NOT expect customers to wait and cool their heels while they get around to seeing them. After hearing about a Friends disaster and experience he's got from GMC Southern. To start it had to go in for a warranty part issue and after his truck has been sitting for over 37 days waiting to be repaired it finally gets done. To then begin leaking oil like a faucet the day he gets it back. Welp back to the shop it goes. Another week goes by to be complete and picks it up to and it's "fixed" now....nope back to the shop for a third time and the story will continue on this 2020 GMC Truck. From his experience alone from poor communication, painstakingly slow process and the continuous recycling back to the service department it's painful for me to listen to and it's not even my truck. "Buy a vehicle somewhere else" This review is specifically for the Southern Auto Liquidation Center off of Military Highway, and the salesperson named 'Moose' as well as the follow up from another SA location. (during the end of October and early November 2023) There was a used vehicle (2010 or 2011Kia) my son and I were looking at. Moose came out to introduce himself and we had a brief discussion about the price. He says that all used vehicles have Etching and Lojack added and that those add-ins were NOT negotiable and REQUIRED by the dealership. No thanks; those add-ins added up to almost $1,200 on top of the vehicle price (which is already high because it's still a seller's market). If a dealership does business this way, RUN AWAY! --- Etching ($599): you can find a kit for $20 on Amazon and some police stations may do it for free --- Lojack ($699): if it can be installed, it CAN be uninstalled I then found a 2010 Honda Accord and it happened to be at the SA liquidation center as well (so I wanted to see how they would handle this one). I spoke to a rep on the phone and she sent a sales-sheet to me for review, and it had the following add-ins: 1) Etching $499 (as you see from above, Moose said it was $599 for the Kia) 2) Lojack $699 3) Commodore Pkg $995 (this is a paint and fabric protection, I believe) (and for a 2010 vehicle???) See photo for sales sheet with add-ons. I countered on the Accord (and also asked them to remove the add-in costs), and they agreed to remove them. Surprise, those costs ARE negotiable! But in the end, they were asking too much for the vehicle. So based on this experience, you can see it wasn't just 'Moose'. It's the way Southern Auto Group does business. The way they do business just reinforces the long-held perception that car dealers are not honest and/or fair. It's a WIN-LOSE way of doing business, and the customer will lose every time. Is the inclusion of those add-ins predatory? On some level, I believe it is. If it's presented as 'REQUIRED' by the salesperson, a lot of folks would just accept it. I'm not against profit at all. It's why businesses exist. A 'reasonable' profit is totally acceptable, but Southern Auto Group is unreasonable. Shop somewhere else for a vehicle. There are much better places and better business cultures to work with. read more

Came in for a routine brake pad replacement. 3 hours later I get told I have a seized caliper and the technician can't get the caliper back on. No parts on hand, 5 day wait to get the single caliper from GM. No loaner cars available, but you can rent one from their sister company down the road, dropped off a Sierra 1500 and got put in a Kia Seltos for another $49 a day to rent the car and not be stranded. Get my vehicle back and everything seems fine. Notice some noise about a week later coming from my brakes, progressively gets worse until I have no choice but to investigate because it all should be brand new. I was missing an entire lug nut from one of the wheels they had to remove to perform the brake job! Got a new lug nut and torqued it down to spec (140 ft-lbs) and just for the hell of it checked the other lugs, not a SINGLE lug nut on my rear wheels was torqued to spec... some even having turned 2-3 full rotations before even being tight. What is this dealership doing??? read more

There's making money; then there's being a push over. Southern auto of course will dominate other dealers prices online; that is until you do your test drive and find out that they will slap a "LoJack GPS", "anti-theft protection" and "appearance protection" fee on top of that Internet price. Save yourself the time go ahead and add another $1600 to that vehicle price before the taxes, processing, or any other unavoidable fee, you'll then have the out the door price. You go further down in these reviews you'll find that the "ETCH" fee is now called the "anti theft protection" fee of $600 (more than likely because of the amount guys that walk out on the deal as soon as they find out they're being charged for it); this is something you can find a kit for on Amazon for 20$. Not to mention the PD will have services or seminars to do it for you FOR FREE. To even further the humor, you'll have another add on "preinstalled appearance protection" which is $400 and the vehicle is covered in pollen and/or dust. They say that these items are add-ons "are what they are" and are non negotiable. Their lenders are probably the only ones that want trackers/gps on the vehicles because they are probably thinking the REPO is going to be easier once they slap you with a ridiculous APR. Appraisals? Not a shot, go ahead and get a carmax offer before even letting these guys appraise your vehicle for a trade in. Only reason for two stars was because some of the employees were great, nice and communicative. Some were less attentive and could care less about making a deal. Of course you're going to want to walk out on these guys after your OTD becoming $2000 more than what you expected. Good luck negotiating with them too, little to no wiggle room. Hopefully you have a better experience because they'll be in the dire need of some deals. Bring your own financing, make sure you do thorough research on the car you're getting into. read more

Paid extra ($2K) for "certified vehicle" but service has been lacking. The front end alignment when purchased was off and supposedly fixed. Months later and 2 ruined front tires had Bert's in Virginia Beach fix the issue (at my expense). When into service with an appointment for an oil change and would have to leave it or wait hours (with no estimate). Instead paid $90 dollars for express service at Valvoline which took 20 minutes. read more

Vehicle Damaged In Service, Equally Terrible Care From Management. Purchased my Maxima here and took it in for a Tire Rotation October 2019. I drove off after service and two blocks down the road, a tire came off in the middle of military highway. No one was hurt and only my car was damaged (to the relief of the dealership, especially). Initially, they were helpful and repaired the car with OEM parts, provided me with a company car during the process. November 26 will be a month since the incident and I still do not have my vehicle back from service. I received no status updates on my car during maintenance, and no one contacted me to tell me that my car has been repaired. The only point of contact I have in management, Mike Owen, refuses to return my calls and text messages for over two weeks. I was given his personal cell, supposedly. I was promised a warranty to cover any hidden damages, that I would sign for it when I come pick up my car from the collision center. I had to make phone calls, and show up at the Airport location, to find out that my car has been ready for a week now. No one who can set up the warranty that I was promised has contacted me back after multiple attempts to reach out. It's one thing to make mistakes in maintenance (but honesty how hard is it to attach a tire to a car?) but I would have expected a higher level of professionalism and treatment from management. You can't ignore a problem until it goes away. Fortunately I got in touch with the right people and retrieved their insurance information this week, so I will be able to see about seeking compensation for diminished value. I don't trust these guys to perform maintenance on my vehicle, and upper management's idea of customer service is to do just enough to swerve legal action. I will never again do business with Southern Dodge and I will see to it that everyone I know, knows why. read more

I bought my new truck there for $44,000. That's a lot of money for me. The truck was fine. I thought getting service after the sale was something every dealership is trained in. Not so. Once they got my money, they never followed through on anything. Before the sale, they put on a good show about what they will do if you buy from them. After the sale, you're yesterday's news and they completely ignore you. I tried to get an oil change. After three unsuccessful trips to the service department, I took it to WalMart. This is the dealership that gives all dealerships a bad name. You've been warned. There's a reason they post a big, visible sign showing the sales - that's all they care about. Only got one star because zero wasn't a choice. Run while you can, worst customer service you will ever experience. I bought a 2021 ram it was dirty inside it needed gas and the process took five hours. They tried to make it up to me they took my truck to wash it put gas in it and do a spray in bedliner it sat on the lot all day and they forgot it was there. To make up for that they offered me two free oil changes which tells me I might not have the lifetime oil changes they told me about when I bought it. I repeat run while you can. read more

Had I known it was going to take this long for their slack @$$ service department to take their feet off my dashboard and do their job, I would have diagnosed it, walked my pale white @$$ to the General Motors warehouse, picked up the part, and replaced it myself. I purchased a truck 11 days ago and they STILL have it in the shop to fix a side mirror. That's right. A side mirror. I'll just make a list of everything I haven't been pleased with.... so far 1. My original salesperson didn't show up for the appointment we set up at their sister location 2. I was escorted into the service shop by to look at a truck and every mechanic in shop was sitting around a desk. Granted they could have been on lunch considering it was 12:30. 3. During the test drive, I noticed the side mirror didn't work on my truck. They pulled it into the shop the day of purchase and it didn't get diagnosed for 6 DAYS. I picked up the truck and said I would bring it back when they were ready to install the part.. I took my truck back last night as they told me they got the part in. More than 24 hours later, I'm still without my truck and here we are playing Ring Around the Rosie 4. When I did pick my truck up after they FINALLY diagnosed it, I noticed a decorative rim cap was missing from one of the wheels (they replaced the front tires as part of the sale deal). I've brought it up trice and have yet to hear any feedback. 5. The check engine light came on roughly 26 hours after I originally picked up the truck. 6. When I was on the phone with my salesman asking to have the truck returned to me until the part came in, I could hear someone talking trash in the background, who I believe was a service tech. 7. I have called David Barrett, who I believe is the Used Vehicle Sales Director, 3 times on 3 different days during work hours and I haven't gotten a call back yet. Weird, considering he urged me to call him if anything went wrong before I bought the truck. Which tells me that sales was definitely his calling, if you know what 8. I had to call them to get an update on my truck today. I was told they were "aiming for tomorrow", in terms of fixing the side mirror. You'd think they were rebuilding the motor. 9. The service tech who called me this morning did not only not recognize my truck, considering they've had it at their shop for a total of 8 days at this point, but he spoke to me in a very aggressive tone. read more

After last year,I was not going to use them again as I did not get my "free" inspection and oil change. I ended up going to Meineke. This year I called ahead to find out the Covid protocol and was told things were back to normal, meaning I could wait while the work was completed. I arrived at the service center at 9 am and was told they were not accepting any more vehicles. WTH???? By 9 am???? That's it for the day?! I was advised I could leave it to be worked on later, but considering I am a senior citizen, living alone with this as my only transportation, this was not an option unless they were going to take me home and pick me up when ready. Avoid this place like the plague!!! They had a car posted and I went and drove it. They told me it was all good except for one little thing that was being repaired. My husband and I went back and did all the paperwork, had them pull our reports, etc. Car would be ready in a couple of days. So we sold our other car over the weekend. Didn't hear anything for four days, so we got back in touch. Guess what? The car is not sellable, even though it's still on their website. I purchased a 2013 Dodge Dart with Easy Care. The car was nice. My problem is when I went back to get a refund on the unused Easy Care after I traded the car ( with a clear title) to another dealership. The Finance manager was not helpful in making the refund possible. I felt unvalued as a customer and will never purchase another vehicle from the Southern Auto Group. I also had a less than satisfiable service experience on one occasion. There are many more dealerships available with better benefits. read more

I just want to express how disappointed I am with the Southern Auto Groups lack of dedication to customer service and satisfaction. My car has been in the service department of southern Chrysler dodge jeep in greenbrier. First off I requested to be sent updates via text message and never received any. I always had to called or text to request an update on my vehicle so that system is pointless and not be utilized. Now my car 2 weeks and one deadline push later is ready for pick up today June 23rd 2019 and I have no means of going to pick it up. The dealership provides shuttle service to home or work from 8 to 10 am. But this system while on the surface seems amazing is flawed because now on this the day that I need to pick up my car and I've been left immobilized for the past 2 weeks, I'm being told they don't have a system in place to pick up customers only to drop them off. The service department manager "Joey" went as far as to tell me to get a taxi or an Uber. Not that its any of your business but as most people would guess getting a motor replaced is not a cheap repair on top of the $1200 of income I've lost due to not being able to work as an Uber driver since I don't have a car. I simply don't have the finances at this moment to afford an Uber from Virginia Beach to your location. I need to pick up my car that's in your dealership and there is no system in place to help me as a customer to get that done with no out of pocket cost. I'm being made to feel that it was all sunshine and rainbows when I sold my old car and bought this new one but as soon as you get the keys and sign the paperwork customer service go right out the flipping window and no one cares about you or your needs anymore. I am highly disappointed with this experience and will most definitely be plastering my story on every platform of social media available to me. But sadly I went there 1 hour early of the VIP appointment that they scheduled me but I told them already that I'm not sure what time I can get there, but they can't find the vehicle I want to look waiting for over an hour, they offer me another vehicle that much more expensive than the one I try to look. I'm disappointed waisting my time and gas for nothing. It is the longest wait just to look at the vehicle over an hour .
