STAY AWAY. Dr. Athena Vu did a great job with the numbing experience and was quick and professional. However, their billing staff is atrocious, disorganized, and rude. Before my first appointment, I had to reach out to them a minimum of 5 times to change my name on the forms because it was incorrect. Then, at my initial appointment, despite another dentist saying I had 4 minor cavities and almost no plaque, SouthEnd claimed I had 10. They made 4 of them priority 2 cavities but said they were "preventative" and it was only a matter of time (for what?) and my insurance would cover it. My insurance did not. I told them to just do priority one for the next visit and when my insurance resets for the year I'll look at the "preventative" ones. They called me the day before the appointment to try to persuade me to do the other priority 2 preventative cavities. I needed a driver due to needing Valium because of needle phobia, which I appreciated the rx. I was told I needed a driver but was not told the driver had to stay the whole time? Annoying miscommunication but whatever. They said they needed my driver there in case something happened to me and because I was too intoxicated. However, after my procedure I was brought to the front desk. I could barely speak due to my mouth being numb and they then told me I needed a crown for one of my teeth, that I had to schedule the priority 2 cavities at that time, and that I needed to schedule a cleaning. I told them I just got a cleaning in January from a different office and they tried to tell me I had to schedule another one - the cleanings would have been less than 3 months apart and on the billing paperwork they showed me, it even said from my insurance company it wouldn't be covered because it was too close to a different cleaning. As she was talking to me, she told me I had money left on my insurance and that it would be covered, when again, on the paperwork, it clearly said maximum limit reached and that insurance would pay 0. I'm trying to explain this to them meanwhile I'm literally biting my tongue and can't talk because of the numbing - which is fine, but now is not the time to discuss this!!! So - they required that a driver stay on the premises because I'm "too sedated," yet they want me to agree to thousands of dollars of extra treatment when I'm "too sedated" and also can barely speak? Heck no. Borderline predatory. When I said no to the extra procedures, the billing woman was absolutely NASTY - rolled her eyes and the whole bit. I will start by saying I was happy with the quality of work I have had done with the practice. The dental service was fine. My issue with this business is the scheduling. This is now the second time there was something wrong with my scheduled appointment and I have one been 3 times. The first time I was scheduled for a time that the Dr would not be there. This time they apparently changed the hours of operation. However my appointment was made before the change and will not be honored. They did not call me to speak about this until after I confirmed my appointment via the automated text the week before my appointment. This appointment has been set since December. Terrible, I even let them know that I would have to speak with my boss first because the appointment was scheduled for after work. I do not recommend this place. I booked a regular cleaning and all they did was take X-rays and try to convince me to get Invisalign. They told me that I required a deep cleaning which would require them to numb me and would take two visits. They also said I had 4 cavities that needed fillings. The total price was going to be over $2000 dollars. I went to get a second opinion without telling them any of this information. They performed a regular cleaning with no issue and said that I had no cavities.... Do not trust this place they will scam you into procedures you don't need! read more

Fancy office but that's all they have to offer. Came in here for my regular cleaning, they say I have a cavity. My brother is also a dentist so I get a second opinion and he agrees. Get the filling and my god I couldn't floss that tooth for months. Then i go back and guy says I have 3 fillings that need to be replaced and a crown that doesn't exist. Show to my brother and says the guy just wants to cut teeth and make money. This place is only viable if you need a cleaning. I have been reaching out to this office for over a month due to a broken crown. I did speak with someone who advised they would get more information and call me back, which hasn't happened. They placed my crown in April 2024 and now it's 2025 my entire crown has broken off, and they don't want to fix it. I have paid too much money for a root canal to have the crown break off. read more

Absolute terrible STAY AWAY. I admittedly hadn't been to the dentist in a while so when I was told I needed work done I was not at all that surprised and I trusted them. I had a crown placed on a molar 6 months ago and ever since I still cannot put any pressure on that tooth or eat anything hot or cold (I had no pain or sensitivity prior). I've had 2 fillings they placed fall out and my other fillings are so tender and painful to any type of pressure I can barely chew food on the teeth the fillings were placed on. I went to 2-3 follow-up appointments about my crown causing me pain and they made adjustments and it made no difference, still terrible pain. Against my better judgement I had another crown placed on the other side of my mouth and same issue, terrible pain and heat/cold sensitivity that I did not have before. I finally went and got a second opinion/consultation and I am now paying enormous amounts of money to fix the work I already paid enormous amounts of money on. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HERE. read more

I started out enjoying this place and Dr. Picot. As he became more successful, he became a bigger butt whole. Frequently, I find appointments booked for me that I did not schedule and charges posted to my account for "no show" as a result of his office. I haven't contacted or visited his location for over three years, yet appointments are frequently booked for me without my knowledge. He needs to be investigated by the better business bureau. I booked an appointment with this Dental office as I am new to the area. I received an email confirming my appointment, but it had a different business name attached to it. I cancelled the appointment as this is not who I scheduled the appointment with nor was it the doctor. I called well in advance to cancel the appointment and then received a call the next day. As I explained my reason for cancelling the receptionist laughed and then told me to have a great day then proceeded to send a threatening message about a cancellation fee. I personally do not care for this place, and I'll go in detail after I state that the facility is very well kept & it looks rather upscale which is what the only thing I can say I enjoyed about being here. Now... I called on a Wednesday afternoon, explaining that I was experiencing a toothache that had now become a swelling in my gums, that I assume might be an abscess, since over that area that was painful to touch, this made eating, smiling & saying certain words rather difficult. Since I'm paying out of pocket I asked how much & was quoted $250 & then told that it included the x-rays that i wanted plus a cleaning which was fine with me because I haven't had my teeth professionally cleaned since 2019. Later I get a phone call after filling out the forms that were sent to me via text regarding insurance. I clearly state on these forms that I'm paying out of pocket so I'm confused as to why she would call me in regards, after explaining that I was paying out of pocket AGAIN they asked for a card to put on file, I personally don't give credit card information over the phone but I said I could do it on the website through a secure form, I was placed on hold & someone else came back to say they we need a card to hold in event I cancel my appointment there would be a $50 charge... Now mind you I already explained to the first person that I was in pain & unable to do normal things such as eat, smile & say certain words why the hell would I cancel???? They apologize & inform me that the new girl scheduled me for a cleaning. So now they bump my appointment from 9:30 to 10:40. That was the beginning of a series of f**k ups. I get there Thursday on time, I take my x-rays & they come out and say it's strange that my visit was about my wisdom teeth since I don't have any. Now I have to re explain the fact that it's the tooth in the front. I'm getting increasingly ticked off because this is now the third time they've been wrong & they shouldn't have been since I took the time to explain on the forms why I was coming in. Because of what they saw on my x-rays they need to take photos inside my mouth. I warn the tech that I can't open too wide because my gums are swollen & it hurts to put my mouth in certain positions. She says it's fine & takes the pictures now Dr. Picot comes & looks at my teeth for all of two seconds & puts my chair back up. At this point I'm done with this place because the swelling on my gums which may be an abscess goes unaddressed. At the very least I was hoping for some antibiotics because anyhow this is actually an abscess which is a true dental emergency I would've had to schedule with another dentist to get that taken care of since the once I spent my money on didn't care enough to read or have my forms relayed to him. I call Ballantyne Endodontics & self refer myself there, I explain everything to McKenna who goes above & beyond for me straight off the top, she says she can have my x-rays reviewed for a second opinion I just need to have them sent over. I call Southend & ask if I can get my x-rays released, they state I have to come back in & sign them in person since I'm a new patient which is fine. I just wanted the matter handled since I was still in a great deal of pain & wanted to make sure everything was dealt with in a timely manner. I sign & they say I'll have them by the end of day. The end of day comes & nothing. I call Friday around 2 & leave a message the end of day Friday comes & nothing. I wait til mid day Saturday since they close at 3 & STILL NOTHING. Now I'm getting even more pissed off because I'm still in pain & now I have to play the waiting game. So I go up there & ask what's the hold up, because I'm already scheduled elsewhere & paying for another set of x-rays when I already got some extensive ones done here was completely out of the question. I end up speaking to Dr. Picot who begins to tell me how things work & how they don't work when it comes to his office, but at that point I could really care less about what he was saying because it was his staff that said I would have what I requested by the end of day, so in my mind Thursday no later than 6pm my x-rays should've been in my inbox & forwarded to the specialist. I wouldn't have even selected to go somewhere else had my experience been better, it was just a bunch of not listening & getting s**t wrong & that doesn't sit well with me especially when I'm paying 100% out of pocket. Do not go here. The dentist wants you to blindly get services he recommends done and will not answer questions as to why he's recommending a service. I also needed to go in for two different appointment to get cavities filled. He filled 2 on my first visit. During my second visit he was going to put novocaine at the same spot he did the first cavity, I told him that he already did that spot and he argued with me that he's the dentist and his files say he is right and I am wrong (hello, I think I know my own mouth and what got done to it 2 weeks prior). I had my cleaning done here, and Dr.Picot says I should get my wisdom teeth out. (My wisdom teeth were not hurting and not showing any urgent signs of needing to be removed) He quickly tells me he can take them out with a local anesthetic. I've never had a tooth pulled, never had surgery, and never even had braces, so I don't have any previous dental experience. Still, I say sure as I finally have dental insurance and assume it's something I should take care of. I believe because my doctor says he can do it with this method, everything will be fine...wrong. I received minimal pre-procedure information, zero information about what the procedure would be like or what to expect. When I got to the office, they performed the procedure in the same public area you do cleanings, Dr.Picot was rushing and didn't take the time to make sure I was comfortable or prepared even though I was clearly nervous, I was awake and could feel everything he was doing so I was super stressed out and crying. He could only get out one tooth because the procedure was going so wrong. This is (I learned after the fact) a significant surgery, and had I known my other options available, I would have chosen differently. I wasn't adequately informed about the procedure, I was going to get or other wisdom tooth removal options, and ultimately, that was the downfall of Dr. Picot. Additionally, when I went to an oral surgeon for a consultation shortly after this incident, they looked at the stitches Dr.Picot put in and were stunned as they were done improperly. Otherwise, his office staff and technicians were lovely and very comforting and understanding. As a bonus interestingly enough this review keeps getting taken down, wouldn't you rather go to a dentist who is truthful and publicly can own up to their mistakes? read more

I have been coming to this dentist for over 5 years and had an overall good experience. Then, the office tried to charge me $50 for a "no show" since I cancelled the appointment the day of the appointment and had already previously confirmed the appointment. I explained to them my daughter woke up with a fever and was vomiting, but they still wouldn't waive the fee. They said if I would have called earlier they could have potentially waived it. I called them at 7:46am (before the office opened) and left them a voicemail explaining the situation. The woman I talked to said they never got it. Not sure what else I was supposed to do. I originally wrote a disgruntled review but I decided to change my review. My original complaint wasn't about the procedure, the faculty, the cost, or the staff! My procedure actually went smooth and they were so helpful the day of. My issue was with the amount of pain I was feeling (felt I was dying; almost went to ER) and the lack of pain meds they initially gave me. No one in their right mind would prescribe ibuprofen after having 4 teeth literally ripped from your skull! My procedure was late in the day so no one got back to me about what to do with my excessive pain! I eventually found real pain killers from outside sources and eventually became ok! After reading Dr. Picot's explanation and actually coming down off of the pain I realized they didn't deserve a 1 star like I originally scored. They worked really hard for me that day and I appreciate them all! Miscommunication can really mess things up. I might give this office another shot! Not recommended. Had several bad experiences. 1) Filling done had so much excess glue that even hygienist was appalled. I was told to come in to have it fixed. When I did, was told he didn't have time to do it (plan was to have it taken care of in combination with another procedure that ended up taking 4 hours (told me it would be 2)). The filling ended up falling out (which I'm having to pay to have redone). 2) During my last procedure, I was trying to tell him a concern I had with my bite. He cut me off and said "sorry I don't mean to cut you off, we're just really busy." Lots of other bad experiences. I sent this to him and reviewed him on his site but never heard back (and noticed the review was removed). I hate that it came to this. I don't want to have to hurt someone's reputation but these experiences were so wrong. read more

BEWARE: I have never written a bad review, feel it's a necessary PSA to beware of this place. This dentist office makes you review them for a free fluoride treatment before you have anything done, which is why they are rated so high. If you actually went through their services first, you would see that the 'doctor' does not have enough time to do anything thoroughly, which is why you are left in a chair for 30+ minutes at a time, then you will be told you need double the work than the thousands of dollars already spent, only to be left in excruciating pain for weeks. I have been in a dentist chair getting all sorts of work for 35+years. I have NEVER had an experience or pain like this, I literally pulled an inch of looped extra stitching out of my gum that was causing so much pain due to my procedure taking too long (so he rushed) and the 'doctor' said he did it on purpose?? I see that a lot of negative reviews first dentistry but I had an incredible experience and have no complaints whatsoever. Everyone was extremely gracious, there is free Wi-Fi, the dental chairs were massage chairs - it felt quite luxurious. I did not speak to Bradford the owner himself with a lot of people mention in the reviews but he's highly advertised throughout the office through his awards in magazine mentioned etcetera. I've been to the office 4 times and will never go back. My first visit went as expected and was told I had a cavity. I scheduled my filling only to have the filling crack within a few days and I needed to go back to have it fixed. The office billed my insurance for the fix even though they said they would be taking care of fixing the filing. My worst visit was my last cleaning. While I was in the chair they asked me 3 different times if I was someone else. How do you not know who is in your chair?! Once they finally confirmed it was me, they said I was all done with the cleaning but the Dr wouldn't be able to see me. I later got a bill for $130, a corrected bill for $170 then once they knew my insurance would pay, they charged $226 and wouldn't explain to me why this changed. How is a cleaning $226 without even seeing the Dr?! I also find it absolutely ridiculous that all of the responses back to reviews are about how Yelp highlights bad reviews. When I was in the office at the time, they were offering incentives for 5 star reviews. That should be a violation of yelp / google policy if it's not. My experience here was not an enjoyable one. Yes, a dentist visit is not the most of fun but Dr. Picot, I felt, was defensive to my feedback. I received a filling for a cavity, and noticed my tooth was very rough feeling after the procedure was completed. I felt dismissed when I explained the "sandpaper" type feeling left on my tooth. I believe they schedule too many patients at the same time. So, you're constantly waiting. I was left waiting with retractors in my mouth propping open my jaw for long periods of time with no work being done, not even Dr. Picot in the room. Dr. Picot and his staff were all wonderful. I felt safe and comfortable in his office. He explained to me what I needed and should have done in that one visit. He informed me of issues other dentist never addressed. In the past I have had a terrible experience with the dentist that performed my root canal in 2017. So of course I was afraid to hear what was going to come next. But Dr. Picot and his assistant took care of me. For that I am very grateful. Everything is completed in his office. Dr. Picot makes his own cromns and onlays right there on the spot, there's no need to come back to have them completed. I think I'm gonna keep him as my dentist!! I wish that I could give this company zero stars I feel as though they are unethical. I went for a routine general dental exam to establish care with a dentist because I am new to the area. They took all of these expensive pictures that my insurance company did not cover I was never asked about these special films. I was told that this is a part of the doctors routine Exam to determine if you need any work done when I inquired about having so many photos taken. They sent me a bill for $422, I spoke with my insurance company and they stated it was because one of the films that the doctors office performed was 500+ dollars. I have messaged the billing department multiple times with no response. Finally I spoke with someone she told me at that time that there was a note on my account stating "that if my insurance company does not pay for the full balance to avoid the charges". I was assured that I would not owe anything, and that she "apologizes" that I was even contacted about that bill. Now, three weeks later, I get a notice from a collections company that south end Dentistry has sent the balance to collections. I have called multiple times I never get an answer, and email with no response. I will be reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau because this is fraud, and very unethical. I was excited about going to this dentist office because like I said I'm new to the area and I wanted to support a black dentist. That was my biggest mistake. I do not recommend this place at all not to mention during my visit I was there for approximately two hours. Update: once I posted the above review and got the fluoride treatment, I thought the Doctor would be coming in to do a final check, just like every other dentist I've had do at every appt I've had in 37 years of seeing dentists. I even had sealants done and he didn't even come to check behind the technicians that did them. Any doctors appt I make, I expect to see the doctor for the prices we pay. ** Update** Thank you for your response.  I only wish it would have been truthful and accurate. Maybe have someone respond to your postings that has actual knowledge of the case and background in its entirety. 1) I never had veneers prior to this nightmare of an experience. 2) Dr. Alegria damaged my veneer when removing cement on the side of my veneer left by Dr. Picot. 3) Due to Dr. Picot's negligence I had to have a root canal completed. 4) After the completion of my veneers, Dr. Picot suggested in order to fix the alignment of my teeth I needed to get Invisalign by his office. Even though my teeth were straight prior to his faulty work/placement of these veneers. 5) This office exposes SSNs by leaving their appointment scheduling tool up on the screen in their consultation room. 6) Misrepresentation of photos - Dr. Picot posted my photos under the header Veneers when I was actually still in temporaries. Instead of doing the right thing by apologizing and negotiating a refund you continue to lie, deflect and ignore the issues. There is a lot more I can say, but I will leave that for my official complaint against you and your practice to the NC Dental Board. Thank you Original Post: Veneer Nightmare​​​​​ Teeth were improperly prepped and veneers placed incorrectly. Needed two sets of veneers, the first set came back with the incorrect size and color from the lab.  Dr. Picot did not send my labs for correct shaping as he stated he would and is customary.  One veneer was chipped when removing cement after placement.  Tried working with the office for the past 11 months to no avail.  Developed a gum abscess during treatment as Dr. Picot placed my temporaries too high and food became lodged and trapped.  I have since needed to have a root canal. Incorrect information provided about insurance and billing. Office requests that you provide signatures while your back is placed to the screen while in the exam chair.  Dr. Picot stated during my consultation that a nightguard would be provided complimentary. However; at the end of my treatment he stated that it would no longer be complimentary but half price due to the additional visits needed through no fault of my own, but his. Additional steps to take: -Contact the BBB to file a claim -Contact your insurance company to submit an appeal for any work done. This will allow them to reset your benefits in the event you need to go somewhere else to complete the work correctly. -Contact the NC Dental Board to complete mediation or file an official complaint. -Submit Reviews on the following sites: Heatlhgrades, Google, Yelp and any others of interest. I have reached out to this office on multiple occasions. Dr. Picot ignored my emails for 3 months. He only called once a reputable Dentist from another office contacted him after my consultation regarding my legitimate concerns. The outside Dentist was so troubled that he asked for permission to reach out to Dr. Picot to discuss my case and request a refund on my behalf. I would never go back to Dr. Picot or allow him to operate inside my mouth. That takes TRUST and that has been severely damaged and ruined through my multiple attempts to resolve this matter and work with him. This has left me coming out of pocket thousands of dollars to correct his faulty work, multiple consultations, and emergency appointments due to severe pain that has resulted in a ROOT CANAL when I never once even experienced a toothache prior. This office will claim some nonsense about Yelp reviews and Google Billion Dollar businesses which is ridiculous. Anyone reading these reviews can tell they were written by patients with first hand troubling experiences. You will notice there isn't any question from the office regarding positive reviews, only the negative ones. That is because they do not take honest or constructive feedback from their patients. Dr. Picot will make you feel as though his mistakes are your fault; which only adds insult to literal injury. There is no compassion, understanding or respectful communication on his end in addition to his dishonesty. This is very troubling when you have and will provide all proof to the appropriate corresponding agencies. There are so many honest, and skilled dental practices in Charlotte and surrounding that are willing to listen and walk you through each step of your procedures and come up with viable solutions - that is NOT this office. I suggest going here for a cleaning and nothing else.. even that is a stretch though. If you want a free fluoride rinse then they make you write a review about their practice. Anyway.. I have never had any issues whatsoever with my teeth..until I went to this dentistry. I had fillings done here that completely messed with my entire mouth. This was over 3 months ago and I still have soreness. These "fillings" that they did literally cracked my tooth so that there was a hole in my tooth and I had no choice but to go back to have A HOLE IN MY TOOTH repaired.. once again, never had any problem with my teeth until this dentistry. They also failed to send me any information post filling about the procedure or any potential problems I could have post fillings. However, Dr. Picot did apologize via email for this as his receptionists failed to send home any of that information with me. Ended up going to my hometown dentist in Ohio to get my teeth fixed post my terrible experience at South End. Basically he told me that the fillings they did were very poorly done and they did not do the best at filing down the fillings either. My home town dentist re did the fillings correctly so that I would not have long term damage and to get my bite to be even again. We are still getting bills from this practice after I have called and they said they could check on these charges and let us know but they never do... Moral of the story.. much better places you could go in Charlotte! UPDATE: I appreciate Dr. Picot's response to my review. However, I do find some issues with his response. He states that I never reached out to discuss this with the practice, when in reality, I even stated in my first review, that I did reach out to the receptionists and multiple times they were unable to help me. I understand that could be a receptionist issue, but it all goes towards the experience. It's unfortunate that this practice did not work out, but I wish you the best. read more

Dr. Picot and his staff are great! Everyone is super personable and always makes you feel welcome when you enter. The atmosphere is calming and the office is cozy. I've been coming here for 3 years, and I have no intention of going anywhere else. read more

Adding another note in response to the dentist's comment--I was not in there for any exams or cleaning, which would have been chargeable. I was there for a consultation for orthodontics plan. As opposed to 4 other real orthodontists suggesting invisaline, Mr. Picot suggested filing of some tips of the teeth to correct my bite. I can't judge a medical suggestion, but just looking at my teeth and giving a preliminary plan of a treatment with no details does not worth a $200 consultation fee. I am absolutely not aware of any other orthodontists who would charge for a consultation. Plus, this office's response to review is downright frightening and confrontational. For a while I thought this was a fantastic dental office, and even recommended it to my family and friends. Though things changed as things moved forward. It is a great facility, with nice (and attractive) dental assistants. Comfy massage chairs and TVs. Dr. Picot is also friendly and talkative. So for simple 2x a year cleaning I had no issue, but I noticed that every time something came up with my teeth...Invisalign was mentioned as the fix-all solution to everything. I firmly believe that this office pushes Invisalign upon their patients because it is a relatively automated procedure based on the imprint of your teeth...and it is very expensive. I eventually decided on my own accord to get invisalign, and was told of the price up front. I was also told that I would have a retainer afterwards. But I was NOT told that the retainer would be an additional, separate cost. The main price for treatment was so high, and no mention of a second billing for the retainer, that I was shocked when they said it would be an additional 600$ for the final piece. Which is of course required if you want to retain the benefits of the expensive treatment. The office would not budge or even really apologize for the misleading billing practice, and I was forced to just pony up the dough. On top of this, when I broke my top retainer and paid 100$ for a replacement...they sent normal invisalign retainers to me instead of the actual hard plastic retainer. At this point I was moving and so fet up with it, that I just decided to eat the money and get a replacement elsewhere. My brother also had many issues here regarding failed dental work and billing, his reviews have been blocked from facebook and yelp by the business. Legal action was threatened if he didn't remove his negative reviews. In short, this place is fine for a general cleaning, but I'd take care in accepting any recommendations for expensive treatments. read more

I've had a great experience at South End dentistry thus far. I received a root canal procedure and it was as pleasant as id imagine a root canal could be. The staff seems knowledgeable. read more
