Honestly the BEST dentist office in Charlotte. The entire staff always has a huge smile on their faces and everyone is so welcoming. If you just moved to charlotte or you're looking for a dentist to take care of your pearly whites, then Southview is a great place. Conveniently located in the heart of south end, the Southview Dentistry welcomes any and all people. I have been coming here for about 5 years now and I have never had a bad experience. The dentists are michael and kelly, a married couple, and the team is full of wonderful humans who are ready to help. They invest in a fabulous work/life balance and have their employees work 4 day weeks and give them alternating Fridays and Mondays off. The team is super great at teeth cleaning and always make sure to get to know their patients. I love it.

This is a (relatively) new dental practice opened by the husband and wife team of Drs. Kelly and Michael Wilson. With a most-pleasant staff and all the latest bells and whistles in their practice, I've got a new home base for my dental care, which is quite a feat since I've only had one other dentist in my life and only left him because he retired. Having been a a patient for just over a year now, I'm quite happy. Perched atop Five Guys and The Wine Loft on South Boulevard with plenty of private off-street parking, this office is quite modern and minimal inside. The waiting area has a large plasma screen TV and plenty of magazines to keep you busy, though I very rarely wait for more then a couple minutes for an appointment. Bonus to the views from the dental chairs: they have you looking out at the uptown skyline from floor to ceiling windows. Do know that there is no "enclosed room" space for your appointment, however. The spaces are separated by large cabinets that hold supplies and the x-ray machines. I have never found this distracting or intrusive, however. As for tech, these guys are on the top of their game. Dental chairs can massage you and you have access to cable TV complete with headphones if you want to try to forget where you really are. X-rays are taken digitally and they even have a camera they can put in your mouth to image particular areas they can then later show you on their computer screens. However, I have never felt pressured or "sold to" when it comes to additional business or services. Best of all are the very pleasant demeanors of the staff- from the receptionist to the hygienists to the docs. I always feel well-taken care of and there is always time for conversation beyond the general office chatter. For a modern and friendly dental practice, Southview gets great marks.

It seems most issues reported on here were related to extra procedures aside from standard cleanings but I can't speak to that. The Good: I don't love going to the dentist and admittedly I've been spoiled most of my life having my best friend's dad as my dentist. I have one area of anxiety with regards to getting x-rays but the hygienist tended to it right away and made the experience as comfortable as possible. I wish I could remember her name because she was so good at what she did and so nice! The lady who met me right before the hygienist came in was also very sweet and welcoming (wish I could remember names). Bree and Regan at the front desk are very friendly and helpful as well! I love that they would occasionally text me to offer appointments that would come up to see if I could get in sooner than my regular appointment. I personally loved the vibe of the office, too. Shiny and modern with good music playing at a louder volume than most places. They also had a tv in front of your dental chair (and on the ceiling to watch when you're fully reclined) with Netflix to watch while you're getting your cleaning. For me, it really helped to ease any anxiety I had and those extra aesthetic touches really went a long way for me. Dr. Susan was my dentist and she was very warm, friendly, and spent time talking with me about some issues I will need to address down the road but I did not feel she, or anyone, was trying to upsell me on something I didn't need as some reviews have suggested. And, as long as you keep to regular appointments, you get a free teeth whitening kit to take home with you! The Meh: they are pricey! While I only came in for standard x-rays and a cleaning, I will need to address my TMJ at some point with Botox (estimated at $400 something) and nighttime aligners (estimated around $600)- none of which are covered by insurance. And, since they're all about comfort dental, they offer laughing gas for highly anxious people but it's $150. It's not Pearl's fault these things aren't covered by insurance but it seems really difficult for many to be able to afford these treatments. Maybe payment plans could be an option? If you have deeper pockets, there should be no issue here for you! The Bad: nothing noted! I really enjoyed my experience for my cleaning and looking forward to the next in 6 months!

I'm incredibly disappointed with the lack of transparency and the sales tactics at this office…read more Every visit feels more like a commission-based sales floor than a healthcare environment. The upselling is constant and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, they have applied treatments and used deposits on our account without clearly explaining the costs or getting my consent first. My husband has had the exact same experience with unauthorized charges and constant pitches for procedures. They make it seem like you are losing all your teeth if you don't agree to their suggestions immediately, yet other dentists later told him those procedures were unnecessary. Even when his expensive implant crown failed shortly after the procedure, they offered no accountability and simply charged him again for a 10-minute fix. We will be taking our business elsewhere to a dentist who cares about patients, not just hitting a sales quota.

Worst dental visit of my life. After having a crown placed, continuing to use my old retainer (and…read moreneeding a new one) my bite is misaligned. I had files transferred from my old Dentist per Dr. Walsh's request, including Invisalign (which took 1.5 mo to transfer as it needed signatures & Dr. Walsh works 1 day/week). I waited for review of the files once the transfer was complete- I didn't hear back. I mentioned this at my next cleaning. Dr. Walsh wasn't there & the dentist said they'd have Dr. Walsh call me the following day. I never heard from him, so the next week I called but had to leave a voicemail -requesting a review of my dental records as my bite continued to feel misaligned/uncomfortable. I didn't hear back, called again, this time scheduling an appt for a bite evaluation or a new Invisalign retainer. I was excited for the appt. as the misalignment had been an issue for a year. Dr. Walsh walked into the appointment annoyed from the start. He told me that me having daily awareness & thoughts that my bite is off center is 'a mental issue' & I 'should see a therapist'. He also repeated 'I'm not being a smartass' multiple times. This was something he conveyed before doing any examination. I was mortified & shocked a dentist would speak to any patient this way, especially given the fact I was trusting him to care for me. From the start he'd decided he had no interest in hearing or believing anything I was saying, and labeling me a 'hysterical woman'. It seems outdated a dentist would have such misogynistic viewpoints in 2026. He the told me 'if you want to tell me something thats actually a problem with your bite then go ahead but you are explaining nothing to me' after I explained the issue in several ways. He continued to belittle & talk down to me, even seeing that I was visibly upset. The only examination he actually did was using articulating paper (begrudgingly) halfway through the appointment. He did not ask any questions, he didn't try and understand my issue at any point, nor did he provide any solutions. He told me 'Invisalign cannot fix a bite' and 'the fact this has been going on for 1 year tells me you don't have a bite issue'. Disappointing, considering I tried getting in touch w/ him repeatedly, took the time to transfer my records/Invisalign files.. all while having a newborn baby at home... Dr. Walsh should probably consider the fact his patients have major life changes taking place in their personal life, instead of creating excuses for his own egocentric and false narrative. Dr. Walsh is someone who is unable to take accountability for his lack of follow-through patients who genuinely need dental help. He will be committed to misunderstanding any issue you have, based on his mood that day. Dr. Walsh - do better. Be a kind person, not one who makes someone leave your office in tears due to how you talked down to them. It seems you are the one who needs a therapist. And perhaps a new career.

Last week, I called for the soonest appt., was placed on hold after they RUN your insurance. They ask you what type of insurance you have before they even send you the link to fill out any paperwork. But they wait until less than 24 hours before an appointment to let me know that they DO NOT accept my insurance coverage. Offering to "refer" me to another provider. When they could have done that when I called them last week(Monday). It takes them an entire week, to notify you that they do not accept the coverage they take over the phone, when scheduling the appointment. If they did not catch it then, then it certainly should have been evident when they received the completed forms. That is a glimpse into how they run their practice. When it comes to something as sensitive for most patients as Dental Work-the Dentist period... You use your own discernment to advise if you want an office that aren't competent enough to complete something as simple as a new patient registration, in your mouth with instruments. Because just as that was missed, they could have overlooked one of my allergies that were written on the same form as my dental insurance coverage. As a result, I wouldn't trust any place they referred me to either.

Before my first appointment, I had to reach out to them a minimum of 5 times to change my name on the forms because it was incorrect. Then, at my initial appointment, despite another dentist saying I had 4 minor cavities and almost no plaque, SouthEnd claimed I had 10. They made 4 of them priority 2 cavities but said they were "preventative" and it was only a matter of time (for what?) and my insurance would cover it. My insurance did not. I told them to just do priority one for the next visit and when my insurance resets for the year I'll look at the "preventative" ones. They called me the day before the appointment to try to persuade me to do the other priority 2 preventative cavities. I needed a driver due to needing Valium because of needle phobia, which I appreciated the rx. I was told I needed a driver but was not told the driver had to stay the whole time? Annoying miscommunication but whatever. They said they needed my driver there in case something happened to me and because I was too intoxicated. However, after my procedure I was brought to the front desk. I could barely speak due to my mouth being numb and they then told me I needed a crown for one of my teeth, that I had to schedule the priority 2 cavities at that time, and that I needed to schedule a cleaning. I told them I just got a cleaning in January from a different office and they tried to tell me I had to schedule another one - the cleanings would have been less than 3 months apart and on the billing paperwork they showed me, it even said from my insurance company it wouldn't be covered because it was too close to a different cleaning. As she was talking to me, she told me I had money left on my insurance and that it would be covered, when again, on the paperwork, it clearly said maximum limit reached and that insurance would pay 0. I'm trying to explain this to them meanwhile I'm literally biting my tongue and can't talk because of the numbing - which is fine, but now is not the time to discuss this!!! So - they required that a driver stay on the premises because I'm "too sedated," yet they want me to agree to thousands of dollars of extra treatment when I'm "too sedated" and also can barely speak? Heck no. Borderline predatory. When I said no to the extra procedures, the billing woman was absolutely NASTY - rolled her eyes and the whole bit. Of course she never introduced herself so I can't put her name on here. Stay away. I repeat!!!! Stay away!!!!!
