I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Michael Wilson and his team. Back in September, I chipped one of my front teeth and it reignited years of self-consciousness about my smile. My orthodontist as a teen had filed my central incisors, something I'd never been completely happy with. As someone who works in digital marketing for aesthetic practices, including cosmetic dentistry, I'm familiar with veneers and smile makeovers, but I wasn't looking for or able to invest in a full-mouth transformation. I simply wanted to feel confident again when I smiled. After several consultations with cosmetic dentists in Charlotte, I chose Dr. Wilson because his before-and-after gallery truly stood out, and his virtual consultation felt refreshingly honest. Some other dentists had recommended Invisalign followed by veneers or a full set of veneers, but Dr. Wilson listened carefully, offered thoughtful options, and never made me feel pressured. We decided on two porcelain veneers for my central incisors. My case wasn't an easy one, as Dr. Wilson had to precisely match the color and translucency of the veneers to the rest of my natural teeth, which is much more challenging than placing 20 veneers made at the same lab. He absolutely knocked it out of the park. The veneers are a perfect match, and my smile looks completely natural and beautifully balanced. Dr. Wilson was intelligent, approachable, and genuinely down to earth, qualities that instantly put me at ease. I lived in Uptown Charlotte for 11 years, specifically in the Dilworth area, and Southview Dentistry was not my only option but my ONLY choice. Dr. Kelly and Dr. Micheal are excellent doctors and people. If you are looking for a new dentist or are interested in cosmetic dental options, Southview will not disappoint. Dr. Kelly helped fix my chipped tooth seven years ago, and it looks as good today as it did then. For a dentist in the Uptown area, they are more convenient than you may think. As a young professional in South Charlotte, it was easy to get to Southview, and I never had a parking issue. I had a few roommates who would visit dentists in the city because they said it was more accessible, and to this day, I wonder why when Southview was so close but more convenient. I saw that their Yelp rating was a 4 and couldn't believe it wasn't a 5. Some of the bad reviews are super old and with other dentists so that's a shame if someone doesn't take time to read them and potentially skip going to this office. Dr. Kelly Wilson is my daughter's dentist who is 2 and severely autistic. Dr. Wilson is trained in Myo functional therapy and one of the only dentists I could find that is and we live in SC and travel an hour to see her. Im sure children like my daughter aren't her normal clientele, but honestly watching her with my daughter you wouldn't know it. She is AMAZING and her bedside manner is something she was born with because we have seen a LOT of doctors and other dentists for my daughter and Dr. Wilson has more empathy than 99% of them. On top of all of that she is just a fantastic dentis. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone. Also, the office staff is some of the nicest people I have come in contact with. Office was clean and modern, staff was friendly. Overall I would have rated this place very highly - right up until the dentist appeared. I'm a new patient, had my first appointment recently. No issues to note with my teeth, just new in town and needed to find a dentist. The hygienist was great - friendly, thorough, the cleaning overall was a great experience. She mentioned there was one old filling that may be nearing the time to replace, but other than that - everything looked great, no issues. Cue the dentist coming in. He enters the room, introduces himself, tells me to open my mouth. Spends less than 3 minutes looking in my mouth - tells me I need a crown and 3 old fillings replaced. Then leaves the room. No questions, no comments, he didn't even make eye contact with me. How can you possibly run a business this way? Then I wasn't allowed to leave the office until I signed the 'treatment plan' paperwork agreeing to this proposed work. Absolutely predatory dental practices. When I first started going to Southview dentistry I highly recommended it to my friends. One day I went in for some dental work. Dr. Kelly broke an older crown I had with a very heavy hand while he was doing a few other fillings for me on the same side. I felt the crown breaking while my mouth numb, but wasn't sure what it was initially. I called as soon as they opened again. My crown had broken and was very sharp hurting my mouth. I called the next day they were open and they completely refused to acknowledge that they broke it. I tried to politely reason with them and they blamed it on it being an older crown that just disintegrated over time. I understood my crown was a little older, but it had definitely broken from the work they did the previous day. They called me and and refused to do anything. Told me I needed a new crown. I couldn't believe how unfairly I was being treated and how much they were willing to lie and deny what they had done. I will never come here again. Went to get my crown replaced and I do all my dental work in South Park now. If they would have owned up to what they did I would have spend thousands more there. Do not go to these dentists. They refuse to own up to a small mistake they made which ended up costing me thousands. Do not go here. read more

After a few visits under belt, I figured it was a good time to review. Southview was referred to me by one of my friends who constantly had positive things to say about the team. I've been coming to Southview since late 2015 and have been very happy! I mean, I won't get crazy with my excitement because it's still the dentist after all. Southview is located right off the extremely busy and congested South Blvd directly across the street from Atherton Mill. When you turn the down the street, the parking deck for the office is the second brick building on the right but the spots are a little tight so beware. When you visit, the staff immediately knows who you are and will greet you by name. No checking in necessary! The office is brightly colored and located on the second floor of the building. The office and staff are headed by a husband and wife team, Drs. Wilson, who are willing to go over any and all dental questions/concerns. It's very hard to be "in the dark" about anything being a Southview patient especially when it comes to charges. If you are in need of a dentist, I strongly recommend Southview. read more

While I am not the type to normally leave a review, I was compelled to do so after my last appointment. I had the worst dental cleaning of my life last week. The dental hygienist that provided my cleaning services was named Carly. I am unsure if she was new, but I had never worked with her before. Throughout the cleaning she poked and prodded my teeth and gums to the point that they were bleeding. She had to frequently suction the blood out of my mouth. When she flossed, the force she used caused the floss to frequently sliced into my gums to the extent that the floss was pink with my blood. There was a point where I had to ask her to pause before she could continue due to the pain. I have never experienced a cleaning like that. It was painful to open my mouth, to talk and to chew. Afterwards, I asked for a numbing gargle to ease the pain. I was told that they didn't have anything like that in the office, which I doubt. My mouth hurt for two days after and I struggled to eat for the remainder of the day after the cleaning. Prior to that appointment, my cleanings were pleasant and routine. ***** long term patient***** Be careful! I started going to Southview in 2012. Polite, kind, fancy equipment. Having grinding and clenching issues (like many of us with stress) I did a lot of work with Southview and spent tons of $$. I have gone back several times for corrections on crowns, adjusting fillings, getting a guard fitted right days after my initial visits. Annoying and time consuming. There were 2 very bad experiences I had. 1 - a crown broke when I just moved to Europe. It was very hard to manage with it broken. Southview got very rude about it when I asked them to guarantee their work as the crown was 1-2 months old and pay the fee to let me get it fixed in Barcelona. Instead I paid $1200+ to fly back to Charlotte, NC and fix it. When I did, Dr. Michael admitted they used less strong material on the crown vs the other side. WHY do that when you know I grid my teeth!?! 2- The WORST issues is that because I clench, grind - I wore my retainer down. Instead of making a new one, Dr. Michael took the lazy approach and clipped the 4 back spaces off. He said because the top was protecting those teeth, I was fine. I thought this was odd, but I look to my dentist to know what is best for the health of my teeth. 6 months later, my European dentist told me my back teeth were not touching. I wasn't going to get work done in Europe. Now, I have to spend $5500 on braces because the guard that Michael did not remake correctly to cover all my back teeth, resulted in my molars rising up and shifting all the rest of my teeth and misaligning my entire bite. Only my back molars are touching. I would think my dentist is looking at my dental care holistically and keep in mind my history. This was not the case with Southview. I would be weary of any dentist that leave dental school and immediately open a practice. I recommend seasoned dentists. Please learn from my costly error of going to this practice. This is a (relatively) new dental practice opened by the husband and wife team of Drs. Kelly and Michael Wilson. With a most-pleasant staff and all the latest bells and whistles in their practice, I've got a new home base for my dental care, which is quite a feat since I've only had one other dentist in my life and only left him because he retired. Having been a a patient for just over a year now, I'm quite happy. Perched atop Five Guys and The Wine Loft on South Boulevard with plenty of private off-street parking, this office is quite modern and minimal inside. The waiting area has a large plasma screen TV and plenty of magazines to keep you busy, though I very rarely wait for more then a couple minutes for an appointment. Bonus to the views from the dental chairs: they have you looking out at the uptown skyline from floor to ceiling windows. Do know that there is no "enclosed room" space for your appointment, however. The spaces are separated by large cabinets that hold supplies and the x-ray machines. I have never found this distracting or intrusive, however. As for tech, these guys are on the top of their game. Dental chairs can massage you and you have access to cable TV complete with headphones if you want to try to forget where you really are. X-rays are taken digitally and they even have a camera they can put in your mouth to image particular areas they can then later show you on their computer screens. However, I have never felt pressured or "sold to" when it comes to additional business or services. Best of all are the very pleasant demeanors of the staff- from the receptionist to the hygienists to the docs. I always feel well-taken care of and there is always time for conversation beyond the general office chatter. For a modern and friendly dental practice, Southview gets great marks. read more

Going to the dentist is never number one on my list of things to do, but Southview makes the task a little easier. The staff is extremely friendly and knows their patients by name. There are two doctors in this location...a husband and wife, Dr. Kelly and Dr. Michael. Dr. Kelly handles cleanings and routine checkups while Dr. Michael does the oral surgery for the office. I've been going here for about a year and a half. In this time I've had a few cleanings and a all four wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Kelly is sweet and explains if you've got any issues with your teeth. Dr. Michael removed my wisdom teeth earlier this year, I choose not to get gas, local anesthesia only...so he talked me though the entire process. He made the removal easy as it could be and a big bonus is he sounds like Matthew McConaughey!! I seen a few people talk about Jen and the bad experiences they had with her. I can agree she wasn't the best person for the job, she rubbed me the wrong way before and I almost didn't come back. Luckily she's no longer working here! The no show / cancellation policy of this small office owned by two dentists works more like one you'd expect from a large corporation such as Time Warner Cable or some other monstrosity. I've gone over some other reviews and found similar experiences from other patients. I am a physician (MD) and understand the need for such a policy. But I also understand that when given the choice MOST REASONABLE healthcare professionals will make exceptions to policies - when appropriate - to benefit their patients and increase patient satisfaction. Not here - despite THE TWO DENTISTS (not some corporate monstrosity) having ALL the CONTROL over how to handle such situations. At Southview Dentistry, if you have an emergency come up and miss an appointment (in my case the office was closed prior since I was the first appointment that day - and I was unable to reach someone that morning), they charge you $100. NO exceptions. Don't be fooled. I find it exceptionally baffling in my situation since I wasn't even scheduled to see the dentist (meaning none of their billing time was affected by my no show). I was scheduled for a 15-20 min appt with a technician to have a mold made for a mouth guard which was marginally recommended for my clinical situation - and I would not have even agreed to - had my insurance not covered it almost completely. The visit would have been $25 (I had paid $25 in advance) - so $50 total - and now these two dentists are charging me $100 for a no show fee. The no show fee in this case is DOUBLE what I was paying for a 15-20 min service (which never got performed). In addition, the female dentist has some boundary issues, in my professional opinion. While having a procedure done, she talked about her personal life in a way I found extremely unprofessional, and which made me uncomfortable. Not to mention - during a procedure, a patient is anxious (I was) and does not want to hear his or her healthcare professional droning on and on about her personal life. In addition to being unprofessional, it is NOT patient-centered. That being said I really liked one dental hygienist I saw on a couple of occasions and enjoyed her company. I don't remember her name but none of this nonsense applies to her care. She - and coco floss - convinced me to floss. Which might deserve a second star and I'll modify later if I'm feeling generous. I will NOT be back to Southview Dentistry - hopefully they will learn to treat patients like human beings and not just paychecks. read more

I went to Southview Dentistry for a year & they were great! They made everything seemlees from fixing my cavities, & the normal X-Rays, & the staff was great. I thought I had finally found a dentist I wanted to continue to see. However, 2 weeks ago I was on vacation & missed 2 voicemail's reminding me of my routine 6 month follow up on Monday (I was on vacation from Thursday-Sunday w/ no work phone/voicemail/email. When I returned home I listened to the 2 voicemail's for my appt. reminder. I immediately called that morning & spoke with the front desk Monday morning & explained to them I was on vacation & just got the voicemail's & that I was not going to be able to make it in that afternoon. I asked for the next available appt. but the girl on the phone told me unless I could make it in unfortunately they were charging me for a no show (granted I was early & prompt for ALL my appt.'s prior). Yes, I can see this could have been avoided by looking at my calendar before I left the week before... I asked her if she was serious & she said "yes" (no remorse). I told her that's ridiculous if you are going to charge me $100+ if I could not come in for a 6 month follow up that was scheduled 4-5 months prior. Surely enough about a week later I received a bill in the mail charging me for this. I understand had this been a previous issue with me being a "no show" but it never was. It's a shame I really liked the entire staff at Southview from the Dr.'s to the hygienists, they don't make you feel horrible for normal flaws that come with going to the Dentist; however, due to the phone call & charge I received I am not going back-Otherwise I would give them 5 stars. read more

Clean, advanced with dental technology, and paid close attention to detail. Likes: On my first visit they had a printed out list of "Welcome New Patients!" with my name on it. I thought it was a cute effort. The dental chairs have a massage feature which is cool. The dental hygienist will let you watch TV with headphones while you get your teeth cleaned. Now the massage chair is pretty weak and the headphones need to be updated for better sound quality but hey -- these people are trying and I haven't had any other dentist offer me that before. When you leave, they give you an eco-friendly shopping bag with their name on it, along with some goodies like a new toothbrush, floss, pen, etc. I love free swag! Dislikes: They will charge you $100 if you need to move your appointment after 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. Yes, you heard me, God forbid you're a human with a life, a job and a family and something comes up 48 hours before your appointment you will be punished for it. For example, I had an appointment scheduled on a Monday at 12PM and I called at 8AM on a Friday and they told me since "they don't work on the weekends" that's considered less than 48 hours. Pretty cheap way to squeeze every penny out of your customers if you ask me, so that's why they lose 2 stars. read more

I have been going to Southview Dentistry for 5+ years. I'm currently 6 months into my Invisalign treatment with Dr. Kelly. I have had exclusively great experiences here. When I first came to Southview, I hadn't gone to the dentist in several years after moving away from my hometown. I didn't have nay sort of dental phobia; I just didn't like how I was always shamed for not taking better care of my dental hygiene. (Side note: I'm 29 years old and I've never had a cavity. Get off me, childhood dentists.) A few friends on Twitter recommended Dr. Kelly and Dr. Micheal (yes, that's how his name is spelled) and mentioned that I would feel very welcome at Southview. They couldn't have been more right. I have always been warmly greeted by the staff and the doctors. They're a husband and wife team, and I have seen both of them several times. It seems that Dr. Kelly is more on the cosmetic dentistry side, but both doctors are friendly, helpful, and accessible. I've never been made to feel poorly about my dental habits. In fact, on my last visit, Dr. Micheal told me my teeth "look like healthy teeth are supposed to look!" Southview is miles beyond the dark and gloomy dental offices of my youth. Good but flawed! I looked around for a while before I chose this dentist. Based on some good reviews and ratings, I tried them out. My experience in the last few years is lackluster at best. Pros: - nice decor - friendly staff - massaging dental chairs - TV with headphones to use during procedure Cons: - If you try to cancel using anything other than a person to person call, you could face the threat of owing money. One weekend, I was very sick and they are closed on the weekend. I was hoping I would get better to not miss my Monday appointment but I wasn't getting better. My only options were email using the address on their site and calling to leave a message. They didn't like that and fussed at me. Then I get an automated happy birthday email. Lame. - their parking garage is a bit hard to find and the spaces are tiny and few in number - I was recently prescribed a medicine that cost much more than I was expecting. I had no choice and thought the dentist knew what they were doing. When I got it home, it stung like crazy and didn't fix what it was supposed to fix. I called the pharmacy who confirmed that the medicine prescribed was a different formula than what I was expecting--even thought the medicine has the same general name. The formula I was expecting cost about six times less than what I purchased. They told me to call the dentist. I did. They admitted no fault, would not pay for the cost of the mis-prescribed drug and would only call in a prescription for a different one. In other words it would cost me more money to fix the problem that shouldn't have cost me so much in the first place. Overall, there's much to like about this place. But their attention to customer service details and fixing problems the right way will keep away a higher rating. Hopefully all you will ever need from these folks is a cleaning. Seriously glad I bit the bullet and went here! Finding a new dentist is hard, especially when you're terrified of them in the first place. Jen at the front desk was amazing and got me in two days after I called instead of the end of March like we had scheduled. My hygienist was thorough and informative. After xrays and digital pictures, she explained everything about my current dental health which no one has ever done before; they usually look at it themselves and would just tell me what needed to be fixed. hgtv + massage chair made for a more relaxed cleaning as well. Dr. Michael was very laid back and easy to talk to. He didn't try to sell me on anything I didn't need which was much appreciated. Overall, the office was modern and clean. I am new to the Charlotte area and found this place on Yelp. It had good reviews so I picked it for my dentist and am so glad I did. First off, everyone who works here is amazing and so nice. The office is so clean, I was in love with the bamboo flooring. They are extremely thorough and the whole appt for my first time took about an hour and a half. The chair had a back massager option in it which was amazing and they also had a tv screen that they could position for me to watch while they cleaned my teeth. Upon arrival I was greeted by a friendly staff, Jameisha is a sweetheart, and called back at the exact time of my appointment. I hadn't been to the dentist in YEARS, seriously, a very long time. So I was, naturally, pretty nervous, but Dr. Kelly and her staff are so sweet and so gentle. They really make sure you're comfortable with everything they're doing. I had a routine cleaning and a few fillings and everything was painless and comfortable. I hate needles but Dr. Kelly is super gentle and made it as painless as possible. All of their equipment is brand new and up to date. You can watch cable TV while you're being worked on and the chairs will give you a massage. They will email you reminders and insurance info instead of calling you constantly, which I love. A friend recommended Southview Dentistry and I was able to set up a cleaning a little over a month out. Before I was able to make that appointment I had a dental emergency and the office got me into be seen the same day. They checked me out and recommended me to an excellent endodontist. The office is beautiful and very clean with plenty of parking. When I went in for my first cleaning the entire office was very friendly. The dental hygienist that cleaned my teeth was very nice and explained everything they were doing. I felt the exam was very thorough and checked areas and concerns that my former dentist never checked. Dr Kelly Wilson came in to complete my check up and we set up a plan moving forward with my oral health. I would highly recommend this group for all dental health if you live in Charlotte. The folks at Southview are professional and truly care about your comfort. I'm just like any other guy and am not super excited to have to spend an hour of my morning with hands in my mouth. They were excellent though and go over and above to make sure you are comfortable and don't rush it to where you get nicked here and there. Everyone was upfront with pricing, they wanted to make me feel as comfortable as possible (massage options in the chair? tvs above you? headphones for the tv? yes please!), and even though I know they're churning through patients, I never feel rushed out the door if I have questions or concerns. After my initial consultation there I've had my teeth cleaned, old fillings repaired, and even some new cavities filled. They use a three-part numbing process so I've never had issues with pain. My only complaint is sometimes, especially towards the end of the year, appointments are hard to book - but that's kind of how it goes most places. Definitely recommend them! read more

Granted I have inherently good teeth but I also take really good care of them and was sad to leave my dentist in Orlando. This place is amazing, small office on the second floor over Noodle Co. Garage parking is pretty scarce but at least there is some. Wait was negligible which is normally irksome, why say an appointment is at 10 when you always end up sitting in the waiting room till 10:30?? Ushered back to a chair, introduced to hygienist who then explained the process. Bite wing films, digital photos, review, cleaning, dentist visit. All went as explained while the massage chair did it's thing and I watched HGTV. Dentist was awesome (did a jaw check and everything), teeth all sparkling and pretty. 258 dollars and a free lunch at Noodle Co (which was not great). The only people I trust with my teeth! Southview is the bees knees when it comes to dental offices. Everyone there is so friendly and positive, and clearly enjoy what they do while still handling their work professionally. But let's face it, the office itself is just really cool, with a view of downtown from your chair and rooms that look like they're fresh out of an Ikea catalog. On top of it all, the quality of practice is excellent. They are always straight forward and efficient when it comes to options and are extremely informative about what's going on in yer mouth. Awful experience yesterday at this place which I've been going to for two years. The dental assistant who was working with me is ignorant and quite frankly I'm not surprised. They make up excuses because I've had fillings before (not at this place) and never had to be numbed twice.
