Recently visited southeast impressions & I've got to say, I was really impressed! We got seated right away (can make reservations ahead of time). The pineapple fried rice was absolutely delicious--there was even half a pineapple in the dish! It was loaded with all kinds of tasty ingredients, making every bite exciting. The Pad Thai was great too, with just the right balance of flavors, and the Drunken Noodles did not disappoint either! The restaurant is definitely kid friendly, though it can get a little loud with the music & such. That said, the overall vibe was fun and lively! The service was good too but we could tell they were pretty busy during dinner time but they were still attentive. This place is popular! Went Friday night at 6pm. with a reservation and the restaurant was full by the time we left before 7pm. The food came with plump portions and what I like the best is that they are not as supper salty as in other restaurants. The Papaya Salad came with 2 big shrimps, which is a nice surprise for $14. Hubby ordered Beef Rendang, which was tasty and almost fall apart, but the flavor was not as caramelized as expected. There were a lot of grease on the bottom. My crispy duck was nicely cooked but I wish there were leg meat. It was all breast meat. We took the leftovers home. The Mango Tango was a well balanced concoction and the beer on tap tasted fresh. I came here on a weekday with a friend. It was actually pretty busy so I recommend a reservation if you can. The server was attentive and the food came out quickly. They were out of a couple of items though, not sure if that's normal or just happened to be the day before restock. Nonetheless, they have a ton of options so not a huge deal. The char siu and crispy pork belly were perfect. They came with sauces and you didn't even need them because they were so flavorful on their own. The khao soi was so good as well. Shoutout to our server Carlos and the owner for taking great care of us. The restaurant features menu items from Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. For the entrees, we ordered everything from the roti canai, mee goreng, drunken noodles, Singaporean noodles, tamarind shrimp, duck larb, chicken curry puff, and seafood red curry. The combination of seafood and coconut milk was perfect. The tamarind shrimp reminded me of an elevated fried coconut dish. Don't forget to save some room for dessert! Having heard of this restaurant months ago, I finally decided to take the time and visit this place that offers Southeast Asian cuisine (Malaysian, Singaporean, and Thai). I liked the food so much that I paid it a return visit just a couple of days after first giving it a try. I had the roti canai with chicken to start, the char kway teow noodles, and the curry laksa the first visit. Second time, we started with the aforementioned appetizer, and then had the or lamb, and pineapple fried rice. My friend ordered an iced coffee there too, but neither finished it nor took it to go. The men's bathroom has an interesting setup, with a urinal opposite the toilet in a private restroom. The booth seats are limited, and we didn't get to sit there in either visit. The host asked us if we had reservations, and having said no they sat a pregnant lady and her man at a regular table. This was despite having open booths right at opening time for weekday lunch. Absolutely loved everything!! It's a beautiful and large restaurant, with plenty of seating. Given their popularity, they definitely need it. For a group of three, we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees which was more than enough food. To start, we split the fried okra and the roti canai. Both were delicious! Loved the sweet tamarind sauce paired with the okra and the roti with chicken curry was so rich and creamy. For entrees, we had the chicken pad thai and tamarind shrimp. The pad thai was standard; delicious but what exactly what you'd expect. The tamarind shrimp was the most anticipated dish and it was definitely my favorite. The sweet and tangy sauce paired wonderfully with the sweet shrimp and a steaming bowl of white rice! Despite being absolutely stuffed and having to pack away some leftovers, we couldn't leave without a cheeky drink and sweet treat. The espresso martini is dangerously good. I searched the area every now and then to find a place and behold the food gods heard my call. I've been here a handful of times and it's been gooooood, maybe even add another o to express just how good it is. The appetizer platter is my favorite to start, hainanese chicken rice, pad thai with shrimp, hainanese chicken rice, laksa, nasi goreng, beef rendang (all i've tried before) super good. No misses in any of those dishes' departments. Now, you must, MUST end with the jackfruit ice cream. Honestly, no idea what a real jackfruit taste like but I'm here to tell you who cares, this ice cream is phenomenal. Service wise, it depends, they're always super nice don't get me wrong but they seemed understaffed and the girl seemed STRESSED on my most recent visit. And, it's a pretty restaurant, makes me feel like I'm in a fancy upscale jungle (whatever that means). You gotta try Southeast Asian food. read more

My girlfriends and I decided to try this place after seeing it on TikTok, and I'm glad we did. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the food is even better. The only downside was that the air conditioning wasn't working, and there were fans only near the entrance, so it was extremely hot inside. Now, about the food--everything we had was on point. It was flavorful and fulfilling. We started with the appetizer platter, which included a bit of everything: beef and chicken satay, shrimp rolls, fried wontons, spring rolls, and chive pancakes (my favorite). For my main dish, I ordered the Char Kway Teow. It was delicious and generous in portion, leaving me with enough to take home. I saved room for dessert and ordered the mango sticky rice, which was perfect! Although it took a while for our food and drinks to arrive, the restaurant was quite packed, so it was understandable. I was with a group of 9 girls celebrating a special birthday at this restaurant this past Saturday. Our reservation was for 6:30. I want to start off by saying that the food was fantastic. Our issue is with the manager on staff that evening and the ensuing events that occurred. The first thing the manager said to us when we checked into the restaurant was that we had a 2 hour time limit. This was the first time I've ever had a time limit on a non-all-you-can-eat restaurant and was shocked by the restriction, especially for a big party. We weren't even seated and were standing by the door waiting for the rest of our party when this was told to us. It was very matter of fact and unapologetic. The evening took a turn when one of the bussers spilled a small bowl of fish sauce all over my delicate dress. I understand that accidents happen and she did apologize but when the manager came to check on the situation, his attitude left a bad taste in my mouth. This unfriendly manager did not offer a solution and instead, waited to see what I wanted to do. At the end, he wrote me a check for dry cleaning, but this is not without embarrassing me by asking why I did not know how much dry cleaners charge to clean a dress. Why should I have to know that? It was so awkward and uncomfortable. A good manager would've apologized on behalf of his staff and perhaps offer a free dessert or a slight discount on our bill -heck, anything other than putting me on the spot for their faux pas. If he is not a people person then he has no business being a manager of a restaurant.  You would think my story ends here, but no, it does not. We found out the next morning that we were charged for two bottles of wine instead of one. Yes, we called and yes, we were refunded but they did not apologize for their mistake at all. If we hadn't checked our bill then the restaurant would've kept the extra money for the bottle of wine that we did not order. Sometimes, being nice goes a long way but this restaurant completely failed in that department. read more

Coconut jasmine rice, nuts, anchovy, cucumbers, fried chicken, eggs. Flavor and seasoning is on the light side with this dish. The chicken was a little dry but everything else was cooked well (except cucumber is uncooked). I'm happy to have finally tried Southeast Impression after hearing many positive recommendations. The restaurant is located I. Fairfax, and while there isn't much street parking, you can park in the garage behind the restaurant. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed is how aesthetically pleasing the restaurant was. The vibes were modern, green, and clean. Our party of 5 came on a Tuesday evening, and we were able to be seated relatively quickly with little wait. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and had great recommendations. For apps, we tried the Roti Canai, Calamari, and Curry Puffs. I enjoyed all of these apps, and would definitely try these again. The roti was fluffy, hot, and crispy, and paired well with the savory and rich curry. The calamari were nicely sized (but sized), crispy, and dusted with delicious Asian seasonings. The curry puff was surprisingly refined. The pastry was buttery and filled with curried veggies. For entrees, we tried the Curry Laksa, Hainan Chicken, Tamarind Shrimp, Char Kway Teo, and Kaprow Chicken Fried Rice. Of these, my faves were the Hainan Chicken, Char Kway Teo, and Tamarind Shrimp. The Hainan Chicken was very tender, and serviced with fragrant and savory rice and sauces. The Char Kway Teo was the perfect texture and had a fair amount of wok hei, which always makes wide rice noodles better. The Tamarind Shrimp was perfectly crunchy, and the sweet tamarind sauce paired well with white rice. This dish could've been improved with bigger shrimp as the shrimp were very overdone, but still tasty. This is not your ordinary Thai restaurant. I tried a liche Martini which as not on the menus. Best martini I've ever had if you in the mood for a cocktail on the sweet side. I'll post pix of what we are. The dinner entrees were good, but not great. Presentation excellent. I'm not a big dessert person, but that was hands down my favorite part of the meal. 4/6/24 After a long morning at the Army Museum, we had a late lunch. I had seen the restaurant when I google mapped Fairfax area so had to come try. Gina was our server, and she is so attentive and patient. Big menu with so many items we want to try. We had a great experience last night. The ambiance is great and the outdoor bar was a nice place to sit with no wait on a nice summer night. Service was nice and tended to us attentively. The cocktails were good and so was the cashew chicken. My dish wasn't what I was expecting and a little too fishy despite having it quite a few times before. The waitress noticed I barely ate it and took it off the bill which I wasn't expecting and didn't ask for. But it was great customer service. The food is great, the staff are very helpful and informative, the vibe is upbeat, it's not too noisy, the prices are reasonable. What's not to like? The only part of the experience that was a bit problematic was the parking. We started with some drinks. My wife ordered a Tamerand Old fashioned that was smooth and earthy. The Tuk Tuk lemonade was refreshing. We chose the steamed dumplings as an appetizer. The dumplings were well presented, not greasy and very flavorful. The main dishes included the seared Chilean Seabas with Assam curry. This was such a delicious offering. The fish was very good and the sauce accompanying it was extraordinary. The Eggplant Stir-fry Shrimp were also delicious. The eggplant had a nice texture, the sauce was great and the shrimp were flavorful. Sometimes you get frozen and flavorless shrimp in a dish like this. Not here. We also ordered the Chicken Cashew Nuts which was good. Probably the least interesting of the dishes, but still respectable. The meat lovers enjoyed the Pad Kapow beef. Again the sauce was delicious and the beef was tender and flavorful. One dish that most everyone ordered and so we did too, was the Pineapple Fried Rice. This is a truly unique and it's just fantastic. If you eat here, just order it and enjoy. Our desserts included the Mango Sticky Rice. OMG, the mango was so fresh and sweet; and the sticky rice complimented it perfectly. We also enjoyed the Biscoff cheesecake. What a great experience! I came in with a couple of family members for a birthday and everyone raved about this dinner! Our server was Gina and she was fantastic! So friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very upscale and professional. For appetizers we chose the calamari and roti canai. Both were 5/5 apps, highly recommend. For my entree, I chose the nassi lamak because I have heard so much about it. It was a unique culinary experience. There were so many flavors that came together to make the dish and I enjoyed it. For dessert there was a complimentary pandan castella cake for the birthday and I chose the biscoff cheesecake for myself. Both desserts were a hit. It's so impressive how the restaurant can execute such an extensive menu so well. I would love to return and try even more! read more
