This is peak. Drinks are great, food is amazing! I've never not seen this place before absolutely packed so please do yourself a favor and book a reservation before you go! I've done a few walk ins and the wait is usually around 30 mins during busy dinner times. I always get the soft shell crab and it comes with fried buns to dip in the sauce. Their menu is huge and there's a lot of choose from. I don't think you could ever go wrong eating here :) read more

A big restaurant with lots of seating. It can handle small groups and also large parties! Great food. Very kind staff! Lots of different options and they all look amazing. The entrees are definitely sharable. It'd be good to come with a big party if you'd like to order and try lots of different foods Highly recommend! read more

I've been here several times and brought 2 friends tonight as they wanted to try Southeast Asian food. The place was very busy when we arrived for our 7pm reservation. For appetizers, I recommend the Duck wrap and Roti Canai. The Duck wrap was excellent- the filling had different textures and was delicious - the wrap was crispy. Would have preferred less sauce. The chicken rice was classic! Tender, tasty and cooked perfectly. The rice however was a bit too greasy. I know it's chicken rice but it was a bit much for me. The laksa was fantastic with authentic flavors. The fish cake and other ingredients was great! I had the char kuey teow before but found the wok hei a bit lacking tonight. All in all, it was a great evening. Our waiter Carlos was efficient. The Executive Chef Michael stopped by to chat and that was awesome! My friends loved it too and are definitely coming back! read more

This is one of my favorite date night spots. I came here before for Valentine's Day and I liked how we didn't feel like it was crowded or rushed. Their drinks are great, a good level of strength to them. I really like the duck curry. Duck isn't that popular of a protein so every time I see it I love trying those dishes. I like that there's lychee in it too so add some sweetness. The curry has definitely got a kick to it but it's a must try. read more

Came here with friends & was seated immediately during lunch time on the weekend. Interior is beautifully designed & service was awesome! Food menu has selections from noodles, rice dishes, seafood, and soup. There's definitely something here for everyone! I ordered the cashew chicken and thought this was mediocre at best. I was surprised the chicken was fried and usually this dish does not have fried chicken at other places. The sauce was good but could have been saucier in my opinion, overall I would not get this meal again since I've had better and cheaper priced at other locations. Also to add... my rice was hard and tasted like it was a couple day old rice. I personally l had better cooked rice from my own rice cooker lol maybe I just got the bad end of it today ? Other items on the menu sounds good so I would give this place another try but from what I can see it is a pricier place to dine. While you can 1000% find another place that's cheaper and just as good, I guess you're paying for the aesthetics and vibes here. Parking is located in the back in a shared garage! read more

My wife and I are Southeast Asian food fanatics, and have been missing the cuisines of this part of the world since our recent travels. Southeast Impression's vast menu of unique dishes from multiple countries thus enticed us, and we decided to visit for a weeknight dinner with my family. Upon entering, the bright ambiance and golden accents impressed us and struck the ideal balance of jungle vibes and more upscale elements. This place is subsequently appropriate for both special occasion outings as well as casual dinners. Additionally, the restaurant was quite busy even on a weeknight, so make reservations. We began our meal with the roti canai and the chicken curry puffs. The roti possessed a pillowy soft and chewy texture while maintaining a distinct flakiness; the flatbread was addictive paired with a well-spiced homestyle lentil and potato curry. We also enjoyed the chicken curry puffs which brought a subtly spiced potato and chicken filling encased in a shatteringly flaky, savory pastry crust. For our main courses, my wife and I opted for Singaporean and Malaysian options, respectively. I have never seen Hokkien Mee on a US restaurant menu and throughly enjoyed it on a recent trip to Singapore, so I gave it a chance. The dish comprises egg and rice noodles stir fried in a rich prawn stock with various meats and seafood, and is often served alongside a spicy sambal paste. The noodles in Southeast Impression's rendition ran a little too thin, but the flavors and textures were otherwise spot on, including the authentic addition of chunks of fried fatty pork and a funky, spicy sambal. We encountered similarly authentic flavors in my wife's curry laksa, which boasted a flavorful, spicy and not overly rich spicy broth with ample slices of fresh meat and seafood. For somewhat less adventurous eaters, Southeast Impression also offers a robust selection of all the Thai standards. While I do not consider the Thai food here necessarily worthy of a visit over your local Thai place, my parents' basil fried rice and drunken noodles both represented well-executed takes on the classics. Specifically, the chicken kapow fried rice possessed tender-chewy grains and an ample portion of chicken, and the vegetarian drunken noodles offered thick, bouncy rice noodles with a generous helping of unique veggies such as long green chilis and Chinese cauliflower. While prices run about $20 per entree, the quantities are generous especially in regards to proteins. Service here ran very smoothly and our waitress was friendly and very helpful. While we did not imbibe, the cocktail menu boasts an impressive selection of libations with unique ingredients. Southeast Impression thus left a a great, ahem, impression on us. It's an excellent option for unique dishes served in appealing digs. My wife and I are already planning our return trip to sample more of the menu and to relive our Southeast Asia travels stateside. read more

Great Southeast Asian cuisine, with fusion dishes from Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. For appetizer I tried their Roti Canai; similar to Indian naan, with a chicken and potato curry, delicious. Main course was Drunken Noodle and Hainanese chicken rice, both excellent. If you can't handle spicy hot food you probably want to let your server know, I ordered my Drunken Noodles low heat, and they were borderline for me. I ordered the Pandan crème brûlée for dessert; very similar to the classic crème brûlée, with Pandan plant flavoring, really good. read more

Recently visited southeast impressions & I've got to say, I was really impressed! We got seated right away (can make reservations ahead of time). The pineapple fried rice was absolutely delicious--there was even half a pineapple in the dish! It was loaded with all kinds of tasty ingredients, making every bite exciting. The Pad Thai was great too, with just the right balance of flavors, and the Drunken Noodles did not disappoint either! The restaurant is definitely kid friendly, though it can get a little loud with the music & such. That said, the overall vibe was fun and lively! The service was good too but we could tell they were pretty busy during dinner time but they were still attentive. I also have to mention that the restrooms were incredibly clean and well maintained, which always adds to the experience. read more

4 stars = good experience, unlikely repeat TL;DR: extensive menu with various Thai, Cambodian, Malaysian, etc. foods. Good variety and decent flavors. Came here for dinner on a Friday night, and I definitely recommend you make a reservation because it was packed. The interior is very cutely decorated, and the serve ware was so cute! Got seated shortly after arriving and took a little bit to be greeted by our server, but like I said, it was extremely busy. Plus, it gave us a chance to look at the very large menu. FOOD: ~Thai tea (4/5): one of the more decent Thai teas in the area, but wanted a tiny bit more tea flavor ~Pie tee (3.5/5): This is a cold dish, which was unexpected. The small pieces were very refreshing as a starting out first bite. ~Roti Canai (4/5): roti was nice and crispy. The curry dip was okay, but I wish it was a tad thicker and the flavor was missing the finishing punch of flavor. ~Spicy Mackeral Salad (3.5/5): The flavor was really unique. Clean and tart. The picture made it seem like it would have more noodles, but it was mostly veggies/filler. ~Beef rendong (4/5): The flavor of this sauce was so good. Some of the meat was tough and dry. ~Tamarind shrimp (3.9/5): shrimp was so nice and crispy! The sauce was tasty, but some may think it's overly sweet (I liked it, but personal preference) ~Char kway teow (4.5/5): Shrimp was cooked perfectly and the noodles had great texture and flavor. Only thing is we expected it to be spicier, but was on the more mellow/sweeter side. Overall, the food was solid, and it's a cute date night spot. read more

WOW this place is incredible. I came here bc I wanted to try some Malaysian dishes on a Sunday night and wow was it busy! We waited for like 10 mins to get seated. Our server was so kind and knowledgeable and was able to recommend many dishes for us! I wasn't too hungry so we only got 3, the lentil roti canai, crab rangoons, and nasi goreng. We also got the white lotus cocktail and WOW OMG this tasted like a cocktail from an expensive $120 prix fixe menu restaurant. The roti was great on a cold day. I almost always love crab rangoons, and the nasi goreng was so flavorful. I neeeeed to come back here for happy hour. I also really liked the overall ambiance of the restaurant. It was nice and clean and bright with green and gold and white marble. They will be seeing me again! read more

This place is popular! Went Friday night at 6pm. with a reservation and the restaurant was full by the time we left before 7pm. The food came with plump portions and what I like the best is that they are not as supper salty as in other restaurants. The Papaya Salad came with 2 big shrimps, which is a nice surprise for $14. Hubby ordered Beef Rendang, which was tasty and almost fall apart, but the flavor was not as caramelized as expected. There were a lot of grease on the bottom. My crispy duck was nicely cooked but I wish there were leg meat. It was all breast meat. We took the leftovers home. The Mango Tango was a well balanced concoction and the beer on tap tasted fresh. It's definitely a place worthy of repeat visits! read more

Whenever I have family or friends visit, we take them here for an amazing dining experience. The food, ambience and service are always super great. The food is reasonable priced and there is something everyone can find to eat on this menu. Recently we have been ordering takeout since we have a newborn. My mom, who is the pickiest vegetarian you will find on this planet, insisted we get takeout here twice in the week she was visiting! She said she has eaten Thai food everywhere and this is hands down one of the best places. read more

I came here on a weekday with a friend. It was actually pretty busy so I recommend a reservation if you can. The server was attentive and the food came out quickly. They were out of a couple of items though, not sure if that's normal or just happened to be the day before restock. Nonetheless, they have a ton of options so not a huge deal. The char siu and crispy pork belly were perfect. They came with sauces and you didn't even need them because they were so flavorful on their own. The khao soi was so good as well. I loved the broth and it had a ton of beef. The flavors with the dry noodles & egg noodles made the leftovers I had even better. Can't wait to try more here! read more

This place just blew me away. I was in awe with the decor when I entered. The service and food as well deserve 5 stars. We had a private dining room in the back for our large VIP party. Shoutout to our server Carlos and the owner for taking great care of us. The restaurant features menu items from Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. For the entrees, we ordered everything from the roti canai, mee goreng, drunken noodles, Singaporean noodles, tamarind shrimp, duck larb, chicken curry puff, and seafood red curry. Wow the roti, tamarind shrimp and seafood curry are must orders. The broth in the roti was so rich. We found ourselves fighting for this dish. The red curry packed some eat. The combination of seafood and coconut milk was perfect. The tamarind shrimp reminded me of an elevated fried coconut dish. Don't forget to save some room for dessert! Highly recommend all the pandan dishes. Especially the pandan creme brulee. They also feature a fun extensive drink menu. The tamarind old fashioned and salted egg & Thai coffee martini are must orders. There is a fun twist to each cocktail to add a little Asian flare. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. The restaurant was packed on a Friday night. Considering how slammed the kitchen and large our party was we got our food in a fair amount of time. I will definitely be back to try some of their other seafood dishes. I saw a lot of Singaporean chili dungeness crab and fried fish dishes being served. read more

Southeast Impression, located on the ground floor in Scout on the Circle Apartments in Fairfax, offers vibrant, authentic Malaysian, Singaporean, and Thai flavors through its delicious Southeast Asian dishes, including Roti Canai, Bak Kut Teh, Beef Rendang, and Curry Laksa. The restaurant features clean, stylish decor, attentive, friendly service, and authentic, creative desserts, making it a popular, visually appealing destination. It's clearly the best place to enjoy Southeast Asian flavors. Every dish we tried was exceptional, highlighting fresh ingredients and a strong commitment to quality. We sampled several dishes and highly recommend: - Fried Okra, which makes a simple, light dish perfect for dipping into the thick, sweet soy sauce. - Crispy Pork Belly and Char Siu Pork, fried to perfection, tender inside and crispy exterior. The crispy pork belly came with sriracha sauce, while the honey-glazed Char Siu Pork was served with hoisin sauce and chili garlic sauce, which had a garlic-rich flavor similar to kimchi seasoning. Both were excellent appetizers. - Tom Yum Soup with Jumbo Prawn was a highlight of the meal--rich, spicy, and tangy lemongrass soup with balanced flavors, not overly sweet, ideal for a cold day. - Kua Kai with Seafood: Stir-fried wide rice noodles with light soy sauce, egg, scallions, and seafood, complemented nicely by the Tom Yum Soup, thanks to its light seasoning. read more

Food, service, ambiance, 10/10! I would honestly love to come back and try all of their menus if I could...! I've lived in Singapore for couple years and I've been craving for authentic Singaporean and Malaysian food. This is the place!!! We had chili crab and nasi lemak. The sauce for the chili crab was amazing and very flavorful. I actually asked to take some leftovers because it was so good. They served with some jasmine rice and bread. I really wanted to love this place more but unfortunately I just can't give it full marks. Food The food came out at a reasonable speed. The beef rendang was very tough. Flavor was excellent, especially in the rice but for a stewed meat, I expect much more tender. Felt like a very cheap cut of beef. The coconut pandang rice that it came with was incredibly flavorful though. Service Service was perhaps the best I've ever experienced. My water cup never went empty, the server was incredibly attentive. Ambience The decor was modern, clean, and overall good ambience, not too loud, not too quiet. Reasonably busy too. read more

I absolutely loved Southeast Impression! I was a bit wary since a lot of restaurants that have a diverse menu tend to underdeliver in Flavor, but that wasn't the case here. We ordered a couple of items and each one tasted amazing. I probably wouldn't order the mango sticky rice again. Overall it is a family-friendly & cozy spot. I heard about this place from a friend and decided to give it a try today. We called to make a reservation and got a table for 11 at 6 PM on a Friday. Definitely recommend making a reservation on the weekends, as it gets packed. I loved the inside of the restaurant. It has a fun and buzzing vibe. Our server was amazing and super attentive. She gave us recommendations and made sure we were well taken care of. We ordered a ton of food, but here are the vegetarian options we got: - Curry Puffs: the vegetarian version comes with sweet potato stuffing. Each order comes with 3 puffs. And they taste amazing. We absolutely loved it. - Tom Yum soup: very flavorful and delicious. Too many veggies for my liking, but I loved the taste. - Roti Canai: the veggie version comes with daal, which is lentils. It was delicious. - Drunken Noodles: this was one of the best drunken noodles I've had in this area. The spice level was perfect. It was not dry at all. The flavors were just perfect. Absolutely loved it. I wanted to try the Massaman Curry, but was disappointed to know that they couldn't make that vegetarian. We had an amazing time and absolutely loved the food. Having heard of this restaurant months ago, I finally decided to take the time and visit this place that offers Southeast Asian cuisine (Malaysian, Singaporean, and Thai). I liked the food so much that I paid it a return visit just a couple of days after first giving it a try. I had the roti canai with chicken to start, the char kway teow noodles, and the curry laksa the first visit. Second time, we started with the aforementioned appetizer, and then had the or lamb, and pineapple fried rice. My friend ordered an iced coffee there too, but neither finished it nor took it to go. The men's bathroom has an interesting setup, with a urinal opposite the toilet in a private restroom. The booth seats are limited, and we didn't get to sit there in either visit. The host asked us if we had reservations, and having said no they sat a pregnant lady and her man at a regular table. This was despite having open booths right at opening time for weekday lunch. All in all, good food, okay value, decent service. The ambiance there is nice and has cool vibes. Check it out and judge for yourself. read more

Our server, Gina, was very knowledgeable about the menu and provided some recommendations that were on point. The environment was casual, lively, and busy, which was surprising at 2:30 pm on. Sunday. It seems to be a popular restaurant. We ordered Hainan chicken, crispy duck, crispy chive, and nasi goreng . Every single dish was delicious. FYI I saw them towing a car at the Dunkin donuts parking lot, and the DD worker said that no parking allowed for non-DD customers. Really enjoyed our dinner here! My husband and I were seated by the open kitchen so we got to see all of the dishes going out - they looked sooooo good! I wanted to try everything (guess we will have to go back!) and out waiter, Carlos expertly navigated us through the menu - suggesting the beef satay (exquisitely juicy) and the hainanese chicken and tamarind shrimp (both gut-bustingly good - the garlic chicken rice that came with the chicken was so good I would buy buckets of it to take home!). Drinks were a bit on the sweet side, but still very good - very tropical-esque I think next time I will just go with the Singha though. The place itself is open, but still intimate. Despite being full - there really were no open tables - waitstaff were attentive and helpful and it wasn't overly loud for the space. Verdict? Great food! Great place! This is a upscale southeast Asian restaurant. Parking is a bit hard to come by so you may need to park a little farther out. Shrimp cooked well, vegetables and noodles seasoned with a little spice kick, not too salty or oily. Nasi Lema with fried chicken: lovely presentation and lots love. Coconut jasmine rice, nuts, anchovy, cucumbers, fried chicken, eggs. Flavor and seasoning is on the light side with this dish. The chicken was a little dry but everything else was cooked well (except cucumber is uncooked). My girlfriends and I decided to try this place after seeing it on TikTok, and I'm glad we did. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the food is even better. The only downside was that the air conditioning wasn't working, and there were fans only near the entrance, so it was extremely hot inside. Now, about the food--everything we had was on point. It was flavorful and fulfilling. We started with the appetizer platter, which included a bit of everything: beef and chicken satay, shrimp rolls, fried wontons, spring rolls, and chive pancakes (my favorite). For my main dish, I ordered the Char Kway Teow. It was delicious and generous in portion, leaving me with enough to take home. I saved room for dessert and ordered the mango sticky rice, which was perfect! Although it took a while for our food and drinks to arrive, the restaurant was quite packed, so it was understandable. I'm happy to have finally tried Southeast Impression after hearing many positive recommendations. The restaurant is located I. Fairfax, and while there isn't much street parking, you can park in the garage behind the restaurant. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed is how aesthetically pleasing the restaurant was. The vibes were modern, green, and clean. Our party of 5 came on a Tuesday evening, and we were able to be seated relatively quickly with little wait. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and had great recommendations. For apps, we tried the Roti Canai, Calamari, and Curry Puffs. I enjoyed all of these apps, and would definitely try these again. The roti was fluffy, hot, and crispy, and paired well with the savory and rich curry. The calamari were nicely sized (but sized), crispy, and dusted with delicious Asian seasonings. The curry puff was surprisingly refined. The pastry was buttery and filled with curried veggies. For entrees, we tried the Curry Laksa, Hainan Chicken, Tamarind Shrimp, Char Kway Teo, and Kaprow Chicken Fried Rice. Of these, my faves were the Hainan Chicken, Char Kway Teo, and Tamarind Shrimp. The Hainan Chicken was very tender, and serviced with fragrant and savory rice and sauces. The Char Kway Teo was the perfect texture and had a fair amount of wok hei, which always makes wide rice noodles better. The Tamarind Shrimp was perfectly crunchy, and the sweet tamarind sauce paired well with white rice. This dish could've been improved with bigger shrimp as the shrimp were very overdone, but still tasty. The Laksa was okay - I was expecting more flavor, and compared to everything else, it seemed a bit watered down. We were way too full from to try desserts, so maybe next time! read more
