I found SSF via the internet and read some yelp reviews. I was nervous at first, the floors in the house were a mess, stained, dull, total mess. Jim came in, measured the house and told us they will look great, very shiny and new. I was skeptical since as I said before they were not looking great to begin with. He said they will be done in three days, and the guy knows his stuff. Not only did he do the job as promised in three days, but the floors...I was floored when I walk in (pun intended), they looked absolutely amazing. They were like brand new floors. Perfect. I can't thank Jim enough for doing such and amazing job. The whole house just came to life when the floors were finished. If you are live in the South Shore and you need your floors done don't hesitate call him, your floors will thank you. Thank you Jim. read more

I do not do many reviews but I definetly felt the need to do this one. Scrolling back and reading the negativity about Sout Shore Flooring was crazy. Jims work ethics were spot on, my dull floors with spots were gone and gleaming. Jim had more knowledge about floors than other company that I had spoken with. Im glad I didnt see some of these reviews before hiring him. Prices were GREAT! Work was Fantastic! I would recommend South Shore Flooring and Jim in a minute. Thanks Jim read more

Without going into detail I can say that from my experience I found that quality control, attention to detail, and good communication skills are not Jim's strong points. He was good at banging out the job. He works hard and seems to know his business, but my relationship with him ended very badly because he abandoned my project without completing it and never called to let me know why. I was glad to see that there are two reviewers here on Yelp that were very satisfied with his work and had a positive experience with him. Sorry to say my lasting impressions are not like theirs. read more

jim firlotte was coming out to repair a section of flooring laid incorrectly. he never ripped the floor up he left it to my fiance and his friend although he charged me for it. he put down new flooring filled with knots and defects although he was told specifically 5 times not to use that, to use the clear wood. he asked for cash to hide the transaction from his ex wife and then told me he would give me a receipt later. we paid him over $5600 in cash as requested. now he is saying we only gave him $500. completely untrue. he also never correctly sanded or finished laying wood on the second floor and did not finish with the poly coats. we had that evaluated by 2 flooring experts who said the job needed to be redone. the downstairs he had putty all over the place, knots in so many boards, incorrectly cut pieces, $135 a gallon poly he left open (about 6 containers), one leaked all over the floor and there is a huge dried puddle with cardboard polyurethaned to the floor. he left a hazard zone where someone could get injured, he never glued down the herringbone floor, just nailed it. he did an awful job the entire first floor that he supposedly repaired needs to be removed, new wood and supplies purchased and laid and finished again. i told him if he fixed it he would receive the small amount still owed he left the job and refused to fix it unless i paid him the rest upfront. after paying him all this money and having to pay to redo everything he is now slandering me on fb saying he was never paid and he did an amazing job. he is threatening me and supposedly setting up a group to picket at grocery stores, the post office and my home. think about this....paid almost entirely, did an awful job that has to be redone and now is threatening and slandering me....what a horrible, evil man. read more

I couldn't agree more, hired this bozo to put a new floor in. When it was finished there was sawdust under the poly!! Called Jim to look at it- never returned my call, until I called from a different number I hung up without leaving a message and he called back 2 minutes later !! When I asked him if he was ducking me, he made up some story about being on a boat. I got him to come back and refinish the crap job he did and when it was all done, it looked worse!! Told him I wasn't happy, through a text message because he really doesn't return calls. He came and Ted me it looked that way because of vapors being trapped under the surface, that the floor needed time to "cure" because there was so much poly on it. We waited 1 month (through the thanksgiving holiday) and he came back and did just as bad as he did the previous times!! I told him I was at a loss as to what to do, he said he would refund my money for the labor. I am still waiting!! Waited long enough, taking him to court to get some money back so I can have a real or guy refinish this mess. Don't use this guy, he talks a big game but doesn't deliver- at all!! read more

I wish I could give negative stars because these guys do not deserve one star. Jim is a slob, look in his truck and that's what your house will look like when he is done. Not on time, does not return calls, sloppy, and floors look like crap, need I say anymore - never again will I use or recommend SS flooring. read more

I had a very good experience with Jim's services. Price was very reasonable, he was communicative, on schedule & extremely informative about what to expect.with our older, more damaged floor upstairs and it came out better than I could have hoped. He even helped us out on trouble shooting a problem with the new wood flooring that my son was about to install in another part of house. Above and beyond. read more

Jim and his crew did a fantastic job. Our floors were in horrible shape after 14 years of wear and tear, kids and an occasional dog. Jim arrived early (who does that?!), worked hard and we are thrilled with the results. Thank you South Shore Flooring! read more

I could not disagree more with the other two reviews. Rare is the contractor who is honest, and on time, and Jim was both. My wife and I couldn't have been happier with the quality of the work, attention to detail, and price. Our new living room looks great. read more

Very disappointed with the owner Jim. He fed me a line of bull. He did an awful job refinishing my floors. He left HUGE globs of poly on my floor. He never filled in holes on my stairs and other various spots that we had asked him too! I actually had to get a runner for my stairs he did such an awful job and one of my steps he never even did!!!! Also he never bothered to fill in the nails with wood putty. Worst job I have ever seen by far. I have tried and tried to call him because he didn't even finish one of the areas but he will not answer his phone.... Surprise, surprise!!! Needless to say I had to invest in runners and area rugs everywhere in my house. I would not recommend him at all!!!! read more

We purchased a new home at the end of September and were looking to have the floors done. They looked pretty good already but just wanted a few areas fixed and for them to be buffed and shiny before we moved in. Called up Jim and he was easy to reach. He met my husband at the new house immediately. We chose a date for him to come in and work and he called us a few days later to say he could come in at an earlier date (which we were thrilled with). On the day he finished, I paid him in cash (which he had asked for) and he said it was alright to start moving furniture in and that the floors would last for 20 years. It wasn't until later that night when my father and I noticed a few small flaws. I must admit that everything else looked good and that these few small areas were all that we could find. There seemed to be a few areas where the brush had missed and there was no coating on the floor. Also, there was a foot print in the coat upstairs in our bedroom. We decided to turn up the heat because Jim said this would help with the "curing" process and found that our brand new heating system in the basement was not working. Called up Jim to come back and also called the heating company to come. Jim didn't get back to us right away, but the heating company did and they fixed the heat. Came by the new house the next day and the heat was still working. Jim got back to us and said he'd come by in a couple days to fix the spots. I met him on the day he returned and low and behold - our brand new heating system just went down again. It was so frustrating because this is a new home and a new system. It was just serviced before we moved in. Jim said he couldn't do anything for the flooring without cranking the heat to have it cure and seemed ticked off that we were having issues again. I apologized and we offered to pay him for his time. We set up another day for him to return and the heat company came back that day to fix the heat (no issues with it again since). We kept the heat on 24/7 like he said and turned it up. He texted me later (since he doesn't really call) and said "Just want you to know we've done 6 houses this week and no problems. Only one with problems is your house without heat." I Didn't know how to respond so I just said thanks... Two things to keep in mind here: 1) He lives the next town over from us so it is not too much of an inconvenience to come by for a just a bit and 2) it's early October and the temperature has been in the 60s and 70s so it's not like it's freezing or this is what's wrecking everything. Since my husband and I had to work when he returned, we asked my father to go by. My father noticed a paint bristle stuck in the floor under the coating and put a note down for Jim to take it out when he came since he didn't want to scratch up the floor. We have continued to leave the heat on 24/7 because Jim said it would help the curing process. Checked floor yesterday and besides cleaning up tape, shavings and sand paper, found that where the bristle was, it was just ripped out, leaving scratches behind and a spot nearby had no coating. Texted Jim and apologized again but asked if he could come by for literally just a moment and fix that scratched area. We left the door open for him this time and I thanked him again and again for helping. I asked if there was anything we could do to compensate him and said now that the floors looked great, we'd be happy to help with a referral to family members who wanted their floors done. Got a very RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL text back from Jim this morning that I am going to cite word for word (spelling errors and all): "Done. Thnks but no thanks on referals. Ur just 2 picky 4 us. Its a floor. Wen furniture is mov bac u wouldn't c it. I was told heat was on. none of this would b happen n." I told him I was shocked by what he said and that it was rude. Also - how is a bristle stuck in the floor our fault? I think he realized what he said and started to back peddle. He said he didn't mean to be rude and told us again how he's been in the business for 29 years and done hundreds of floors and doesn't even see what we're talking about. He also told us the bristle stuck in the floor was because of the heat. Again - it's in the 60s and 70s this week and the heat is cranking inside now 24/7. He said "it is wat it is." I told him we will not be in contact again. He should have either taken us up on our offer for more money to fix what should have been done in the first place or if he was annoyed with us, just not said ANYTHING to us after fixing the problem. Childish comments like that are not necessary. Sorry if we want a nice floor after paying thousands of dollars for having it done in our very first home that we are trying to take pride in. He says he is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and he promotes this on his website and his vehicle. But the BBB says he is not accredited by them and there are complaints with them too about him. read more

I just had my floors sanded and stained. They came out absolutely beautiful. The day of the first poly coat I was also having my house insulated. After the insulators were 3/4 through they said "some of this may blow in onto the floors" Well the next day Jim called to say all floors were covered with a fine dust. I panicked he said don't worry. The finished product is fabulous. I have a long living room and not one speck of dust or one tiny bubble in the poly. From what I read many people complain of little bubbles. I can't find one if I tried. I also had 2 old heating register spots from the 1950's replaced. great work there too. When I hire a contractor I just want someone who "knows their business" Im not looking for a shiny truck. Jim did a wonderful job always returned my calls or text usually within the hour. Everyone who comes into my house says "I love your floors" Great price too. Thanks Jim. read more
