Our GC recommended we go with Tan's Floor Service, and we're SO GLAD we did!!! Tony and his team are incredibly kind and competent. A few areas in particular that stood out to us: 1. Repairs were done beautifully. an 1870 house has a lot of different types of floors from 150 years of repairs... Tony's team matched the flooring very well (super thoughtful in the wood they chose). 2. Midway through the project, we decided we needed to replace the stairs. A lot of them were cracking, and moving in with two kids we decided now was the time to do it. Tony's team expertly replaced the stairs, including putting in the crown molding. 3. John asked for a video of the space to save time, instantly provided a very fair estimate, and said they could do it in a week. What!? So of course I said yes... then immediately got scared. They did an outstanding job - we have sanded and refinished floors ourselves so we know all the expected glitches - which there were NONE- and the level of skill these guys have to have to do such a quality job. My wife and I are busy physicians at local hospitals with an 8-month old baby, so as you can imagine, we needed truly a personalized service. I was a little nervous at first as there's not much information online about the company, but am so happy with the results! ESTIMATE: I first contacted Carl via email, and sent him an architectural rendering of our home, as well as thoughts on the type of carpet we were looking for. Immediately that day, he was able to send back by email an estimate as well as a link to a carpet company's website for us to further learn about the products. We scheduled a home visit later that week (he was extremely accommodating, coming at 8pm after I got home from work) with a set of carpet samples. He precisely measured all of the rooms that needed carpeting as my baby was playing with the carpet samples, and refined the estimated price. My wife was still at work, and so I took an iPhone picture of the samples and told him that I'd get back to him with the color, however was happy with the product. Of course, when my wife came home, the iPhone picture didn't suffice, and wanted to feel and go through the carpet samples herself. SO Carl drove back to our home and dropped off the carpet samples for a couple of days so that we could take our time in making a decision. I was impressed at how there was no sales pressure whatsoever, and was completely understanding. We were finally able to make a decision on the color and product. PRICE: He's definitely not the highest priced company, and my only advice, needless to say, is to do a little homework. After doing a little bit of research, I can tell you that he is totally reasonable. QUALITY OF INSTALLATION: Carl sold us an excellent product, but can also tell you that the quality of the installation is awesome. There were some pitfalls that he warned us about ahead of time (the newer carpet is more plush and prone to crushing, the new carpet is higher, and so will create step-offs at transition points) but there absolutely were no surprises. INSTALLERS: Since my wife and I were both at work, and we basically blindly entrusted our home and valuables to Teo (the installer) and his crew. I can tell you that they were incredibly professional in their work, and incredibly respectful of our stuff. Obviously they can't place things back 100% where they came from, nor did we expect them to, but they were pretty close! On top of that, I asked them to move our television set away from the baby's play area as she's getting more mobile, and without even hesitation, when I came home that evening, I was incredibly impressed even that was done! When they left, they turned off all of the lights, locked the doors, left the key on the kitchen table for us. OVERALL: My wife and I value honesty in a person and company over anything else. We think we're pretty good judges of character, and can say that we were truly impressed by Carl and his company. His responsiveness to email, the respect of our home, quality of the product, and quality of the installation were excellent. He truly went above and beyond, has great character, and we will not hesitate to use him for all of our subsequent flooring needs!! A+

Not sure if he tried to just stuff this job in on the side, but my entire house that he refinished a darker stain looks terrible. I keep finding more and more errors on his part as time goes on. When I asked him about it he said "Oh that will fade away after time." He offered to come back to fix it, but I am not interested in having my entire house packed up and moved while he re-sands and re-stains everything. I wouldn't trust him nor his workers with staining a toothpick, rather to come back into my house and screw something else up. It infuriates me that I paid $4000 for a total of 12 hours of work that looks terrible. Do yourself a favor and find someone else to do your floors regardless of what your real estate agent says. Every single day I look at my floors I am disgusted by the work he did.

These guys are better than advertised. Tuan Ung returned the phone call the same day, visited the next day, made some VERY accurate observations that kept me from going in another (wrong) direction... then gave me a very competitive quote for top notch flooring products that was very close to one from a company going to use Home Depot pre-finished products instead. The work (taking out four layers of flooring and plywood and laying down fresh oak with one coat of finish) was done in one day. They handled the removal and installation of some appliances and fixtures flawlessly and as part of the service. When they wanted to reinstall the old toilet I asked them to hold on a moment, ran out and bought a new one, and they unboxed and installed it as part of the overall service, then broke up and hauled away the old one just for good measure. Tuan checked back several times to be sure I was happy with the work and had continually offered to make any small repairs I might require. I cannot say enough positive about these guys; on time, good work, very reasonable cost, attention to detail, follow through... it is all there. The last contractor I hired to do any work I ended up suing and winning, so I do not suffer fools gladly. You need some flooring ? At least call these guys for a quote... great service.
