If you're in the need for any floor work whether repair work, partial or full install Ken is your guy. I found him on a Google search. I called, he showed up within two hours. He assessed the damage areas and within three hours I had a quote for two different options. No need to feel like I needed to negotiate as his pricing was excellent. Ken was able to get a couple guys to my house within 2 days. We were walking on the areas within 48 hours. That included the repair, stain and polyurethane process. I got a bunch of quotes but AJ Floor was the most responsive and accommodating. Not the cheapest but TBH the cheapest quotes seemed sketchy. Ken and his brother got it done on a short timeline, did an amazing job, and kept the apartment remarkably clean. The floors are an antique or reclaimed flooring, with visible nails to work around. We need the flooring refinished before we moved into our new home, but we were working on a tight schedule because of a delayed house closing and a rapidly approaching exit date on our apartment. During the quote process we discussed staining a darker color to get the wood to match, he pointed out he would sand down raised board in the thresholds between rooms, and recommended a satin finish to help withstand an 85lb German Shepherd. We confirmed a date and time for 8:30am and text confirmed the night before. Stressful to rearrange my schedule and get the house cleared out. But the day of: No Show. When I called/texted for an ETA, nothing (text attached). I know the text was viewed. Still no communication 10 hours later. I'd expect at the least an explanation or reschedule or even a formal cancellation? But NOTHING? Wow I'm blown away how any business considers this acceptable. Please note to contractors: if there's a problem just communicate anyway. Don't avoid the situation and leave a potentially loyal customer in the dust. 2 stars is for initial good communication. I hired Ken to refinish my first floor and he was supposed to build a sub floor and patch a small area with new hardwood. Our project had a number of issues including: - Swirl and circle marks through the corners of the hardwood. He had his cousin and nephew doing the job and apparently they don't know what they're doing. The poly was done over the marks and they are apparent. Poor craftsmanship. - They did a very bad job of covering our brand new kitchen cabinets and countertops. When we can home we had to clean all the dust. - There were a number of areas where the poly was missing and he had to come back and do it by hand. - Our patched area was done with red oak and not white oak to match the first floor. - There was a piece of wood that sunk about a half and inch (patched area) and when he came back to inspect he said he couldn't fix it. - He did refund some of my money on the patched area and the others, but when I requested a full refund he said no and didn't return my calls/texts. I'm now out the money it took to leave the house and stay at a hotel, as well as I'm in the process of hiring someone else to do the job I paid him for.
