Went here for the first time today. I was happy with my pedicure. Eyebrow wax was good. The only issue I had was that i was quoted a certain price over the phone for the services. Then, halfway through the pedicure, they told me they went up on their prices. In my opinion, a good integral company would honor the prices that were given over the phone. They said they've been around for 20 years plus. Being where they are, i hope they aren't doing this to every customer, hoping they'd just go along with overpaying. Based on principle and the fact that there are a ton of other nail spas in town, I will not be returning. read more

After browsing through yelp reviews in search of a decent nail salon that doesn't break the bank I decided to try out South Lake Nail Design. I had a wedding to attend last weekend and wanted to look my best. I planned on going in after work on Thursday before heading home to pack and prepare for our trip. I don't get off work until 5:30 so making it to the salon before they closed at 6:00 pm was a tricky one. Thank goodness my boss rocks, because she let me leave about 30 minutes early so I could avoid being "that girl" that comes in at closing time keeping the employees late. Finding parking was really easy! There are tons of parallel spots with a 1 hour limit. The perfect amount of time to knock out a mani/pedi. The parallel parking isn't free though. Don't forget to pay the parking machine! I made it to the salon by 5:15 in hopes that they would take me with such short notice and with no appointment. I was in luck! They were more than happy to help me even though I was there so close to closing time. The ladies were all very friendly and talkative making me feel comfortable the entire time. I also noticed this shop has regulars. Three of the ladies getting their nails done were obviously repeat customers. They all knew each others names and were chatting it up during their visit. I love feeling a good sense of small community when in the city. Makes me all warm and fuzzy. I was very pleased with the work the ladies did. They were quick, efficient and friendly. Not only that, but the prices are unbeatable! Paying $28.00 for a mani and pedi almost feels wrong, but I can't complain. My ass is always broke! Hahaha! Was hanging out in pasadena and had some time to kill so thought to get a mani and pedi. Yelped this place and called, they weren't busy and was able to fit me in. Very easy to find, right across the street is Macys. Service was great, the ladies were very nice and patient. They had alot of OPI nail colors which was good.. most asian nail places are too cheap to buy them. Got a mani and pedi and was very happy with both. I just got my nails done from here after walking in off the street to see if they could take me. I have to say that Vicky, who did my nails, was one of the most likable people I have ever met! She was so bubbly and patient while I wanted to look at 10 different nail polish colors! The owner of the salon, who's name I didn't get, was also equally lovely and so sweet. You can tell that they really care about their customers since they remembered every ladies name that came in! My nails look awesome and I'm thrilled with the color! I went to this nail salon today after reading all the reviews on Yelp. I guess they gave me pretty high expectations. I called and made an appointment and they were ready for me when I arrived. There aren't massage chairs, which I knew to expect, but I was counting on a great massage and polish job to make up for that. Sadly, both those things were lacking for me. Both the manicure and pedicure were quick and I didn't really feel like it was the "above and beyond" I was expecting. The massages were quick and nothing special. It felt pretty factory-like... they finished with me and moved on to the next customer. I didn't even get set up with something to dry my toes... also I already have a chipped finger nail. Go here if you want an average mani/pedi. I think there are cheaper places to go and get the same service. The ladies were nice, but not overly so. The owner did my manicure and she was constantly stopping to answer the phone. (Also one worker was giving a pedicure and reading her kindle!!! SUPER unprofessional!) Came here for my mani+pedi. The location is a little hard to find. It is inside the building not outside. Anyway, it seems it is better if you can make an appointment ahead of time because sometimes, it gets so busy. First of all, this place does not have a "Spa" like the other nail salons. They will bring a tub full of warm water to soak your feet in for pedicure and no massage chairs. So if you are looking for a typical spa type nail salons, this is not it. Everyone is very nice and most speaks very fluent English. I found it interesting that the ladies who did my nails actually advised me not to spend the extra $3 on french tips since my nails were too short. After my nails were done, they actually asked me to stay for about 30min to dry my nails. Which I thought was very nice since some nails salons will make you feel like you need to leave before drying them well. Price: $30 for Mani + Pedi. $3 for french tips. "Cash Only" would have been a useful sign to have upon entering the salon. They do not take credit cards so be prepared to have cash or a check book (if ppl still carry those nowadays). Other than that, the service was excellent. Nikki did my mani and was a pleasure to speak with. I wish I remembered who did my pedi but she was just as pleasant. It feels nice to be able to speak to the girls and joke around while getting the service. They take their time cutting your cuticles and actually massage you instead of just rubbing you down with lotion. I did miss the hot towel feature and wish they would add that since I am paying $30. I visited this salon based on Yelp reviews. In Pasadena for work and my nails were all chipped, was in dire need of a manicure. I had Michelle and she was wonderful, both in doing my manicure as well as personality. Her staff was so sweet and amicable, and even helped choose a color for my nails! Merino Cool by Essie. They have a lot of OPI and Essie colors to choose from, which made me happy! Michelle was so detailed in painting my nails and didn't miss a thing! 5 Stars from me!! I've been meaning to write this review for a while now, but just haven't had the time. I'm very picky about my nails and after trying many different nail salon over the years, I've finally found my spot!! I haven't stuck with one nail salon until now. As you walk in, everyone is very friendly and greets you by name. Big plus. They speak English very well and isn't like all those other nail shops, where you feel like they're talking about you in another language. Nikki is my girl! I came to her a few months back after a really bad acrylic job at another shop. I told her my concerns and to what happens every time I get my nails done and how it's never the way I want. She seemed to understand and started to work. 30mins later, OMG! It was perfect, just the way I would do them, if I could do them myself. I've gotten so many compliments on my nails since then. So, after a few returns to the shop, I felt comfortable enough to have Nikki pick my polish color and I haven't been disappointed yet on her choices. I think I get more compliments on her color choices, then mines! This place is definitely more of a conservative/simple type of salon, so if you want 3D art and the whole shebang, this isn't the place for you. It's clean, the work is always great, workers are friendly, price is definitely reasonable, and parking is easy. Mani (french)/pedi for $31 - not bad for Los Angeles prices, if you want to avoid the horrid chop shops. I had a wedding to go to couple of weeks ago, and this place was close to my new office and had good Yelps...so off I went! It's very small, a bit hard to find, and they only take cash or checks - however, those are all very easy to overlook when you're finished with your excellent manicure with cleanly painted nails and a lovely pedicure with an extra long foot/leg massage. I haven't been in a nail shop in maybe 6 or 7 years, because I had a bad experience during my last visit to one. I called ahead to make sure they take walk-ins (they do!), and then when I arrived, all of the ladies made me feel right at home immediately. I usually have concerns about sanitizing practices at nail salons (like I said, bad experience, yuck), and I was glad to see that they are very conscientious and transparent about what they are doing to clean instruments and supplies. The best part, for me, was the great conversation I had with the staff as I had my pedicure. Everyone is so friendly and makes a great effort to ensure that each customer is happy with their work. I'm one of those customers that call a few hours before I want to come in to see if they have time for me and south lake nails ALWAYS makes time to take me in. The staff here will chat with you making you feel welcomed and relaxed Nicki and Tram are AWESOME at acurlics (however you spell it haha) I always get complements about how natural my nails look not to mention the designs...each design is hand painted and its gorgeous! most of the time I don't know what color to pick so I let the girls pick for me and every time they do, my nails are fantastic. I always look forward to work the next day after I get my nails done bc my co-workers always rave about how cute and beautiful my nails look hehe ok, lets talk about toes. south lake is and will be the only place that I let touch my feet. My friend and I decided to try this place out because the ratings on here seemed good. The ladies were very nice. The service was very prompt... We both were able to be seated pretty quickly without any appointments. All of the ladies spoke excellent English (sometimes a rare thing in the nail salons). They did occasionally switch to their other language, but not in the way others sometimes do, where you start to wonder what they are saying about you... For the most part, they did not chat amongst themselves...they chatted with us instead, and we had a really nice time just talking and getting our nails done. We had hoped for a place with spa chairs, but, alas, this is not such a place. Aside from that disappointment, the experience was a pleasant one. My toes have never looked nicer (cute flowers-- yay!). My french manicure, done with gel polish, is beautiful... Proving to me that it can indeed be done neatly, unlike what my last manicurist seemed to think. I did not feel like a lot of attention was given to my toenails or heels compared to what I think I was expecting, but, on the upside, I think they still look fabulous. I was running errands in the Pasadena area and decided I wanted to have my neglected nails done--I often venture this way from downtown to go to the Whole Foods and Trader Joes so I hopped on Yelp and found this salon. After reading some reviews, I decided I would try it out. The women running this nail salon are so friendly and engaging. I think most women have experienced salons where the staff barely speaks to you and consistently chatter in their native tongue right in front of you. I'm not looking to have any big conversations, but sometimes those situations leave you feeling like more of an annoyance or an object than anything else. I elected to have a mani-pedi. $30 is a really great price ... many other salons charge at least $10 more. Michelle & Annie took care of me, and both were absolutely delightful--friendly, funny and made me feel right at home. Annie chided me for trimming my nails too short and succeeded in convincing me to let her take care of maintaining them from now on. Bottom line--they addressed me by name, were extremely friendly and the atmosphere was very happy. My nails turned out great and it didn't take very long. I'll absolutely be back. There is a big parking lot behind the center they are located in--so parking is a breeze. I've been here twice for a mani+pedi and everyone is super friendly. Both times I just walked in without an appointment and I only had to wait five minutes at the most. The mani+pedi was done well, very detail oriented. They offer to trim my nails which is included in the price. Some places don't bother or charge extra. If you're looking for a quick mani+pedi this is your place. The only downside is they don't have massage chairs and the first time I came in I felt awkward having someone do my toe nails while I'm stretching to get my finger nails done at the same time. Good price for the service. I recently tried cheaper and let's just say you get cheaper results in a place that is not clean. This is such a great little spot! Not your standard salon where they throw you in a spa chair and slap nail polish on your nails and try to get you out as quickly as possible. They do a superlative job here - I had a pedicure that lasted for 3 weeks - and it's very quiet, mellow, and low-stress. At other salons there is so much going on - TV on, people running around, etc - that it's hard to relax. At South Lake Nail Design, I feel completely at home and pampered. Don't come here expecting spa chairs that give you a massage while you get your nails done. Come here for nice people who do a really good job at what they do. It's not fancy (in fact. it really could use some updting), but it's clean and comfortable. You can tell by listening to the other clients that people have been coming here for a long time. For some reason, when I get my nails done here the polish stays put longer than at other places. I don't know who they do that. I used to come here years ago, then started going to another place because of the spa chairs at the other place. I learned that the spa chair is overrated if the manicure dosen't last and the service isn't the best. By the way, the prices are good here too. :) read more

Gave this place a try after all the yelp reviews, thought it was okay. The staff was very friendly and helpful as described. I got an amazing massage during my pedicure and I love the nude gel polish on my hands. The gel is started to lift on the sides of a few nails already, even though I don't use my hands much, it's already bubbling and seperating. This could be because my nails grow so quickly but I'm not sure! All and all I would definitely go back for a pedicure, it was the best pedicure I've ever had! Fantastic little spot. I had a bit of time to kill so I decided to get a mani-pedi on the fly. I called in on my way over to make sure they had time for me. When I arrived I was greeted warmly and seated promptly. It wasn't busy, but it wasn't dead. The service was straight forward and simple which was what I was looking for. They are excellent professionals who know what they're doing and do it well. I asked for a red polish with black French tip and they executed it expertly. Before the polish went on they asked if I wanted to pay first. When I pulled out my visa, they politely informed me that they didn't take credit cards. I was surprised at this, but we worked around it. After the polish went on, one of the girls loaned me her flip flops since my shoes were peep toe. I took a short walk to the local grocery store and got some cash. Of course, due to my own clumsiness, I wrecked the polish on one finger. When I got back, they fixed it without any complaints and even helped me put my own shoes on. All in all, great customer service, great atmosphere. I would definitely return again. read more

I went for a mani yesterday. I was happy that it wasn't packed for a saturday and that they could get started right away. The ladies were very nice and I was glad they didn't push the conversation since I'm not big on talking. I'm there to relax. I was also very happy with the fact that it didn't take forever but was still a good quality service. First of all, amazing service!! Secondly, an excellent manicure... I arrived here about 30 minutes before closing and the ladies were very gracious to me. They gave me time to choose a color and when I was having trouble deciding between two different polishes, they recommended we could try them both on to see which one I liked best. The owner was the one who did my manicure and right away she asked my name and used my name frequently during conversation. She and her daughter were very friendly and maintained great conversation the whole time. Now, I have a weird thumb nail that manicurists often comment on (yes, the stereotypical blunt and unpleasant comments). However, the lady who did my nails simply went to get some extra supplies and spent a good five minutes fixing up my one warped nail. When she finished my manicure, you couldn't even tell it was different from any other nail! I was so impressed... and she didn't make me feel awkward and, even better, didn't charge me any extra for the fix! Although they were closed by the time they were finishing up with me they did not rush me in the least. They were so helpful and even made sure I didn't leave too soon so that my nails wouldn't get messed up after leaving. Great service, great manicure, totally recommend!
