Good food, always fresh tasting, good service, nice friendly waitress's, will deliver to your car as well. Run by an awesome family! I've been eating there for about 40 yrs(yes, they've been cooking that long for us) I highly recommend the South House! read more

My wife and I tried out South House today and were impressed. We got there at approximately 11:30 AM so we beat the church crowd and were seated within 10 minutes. We both tried the meat and 2. I had the country style steak with rice and gravy and limas. My wife ordered the same minus the limas and adding the Mac and cheese. We had the option of biscuits or cornbread and went with all biscuits. Both of us were glad we did because they were delicious! All the sides were excellent and reminded me of real home cooking! The only slight disappointment was the texture of the country style steak. It was more the consistency of stew beef rather than breaded and fried cube steak. We both want to go back soon and try another entree! Also the prices were extremely reasonable! Our entire bill was $25 and change! Cheaper than most fast food places! Highly recommend! read more

Always a hit for me. I'm vegetarian and love a good veggie plate... only some things/ veggies are cooked in pork so I'm a little limited at times. But what I do get is always good! read more

Food was good overall. Service was good overall. Cleanliness was marginal. Tea was good; fried chicken was above average. Plenty of parking; the entrance is in the back of the building. Lighting was lacking. read more

I realize we picked Sunday lunch on Father's Day to visit. It was very busy. But it was just crazy. We waited, and it wasn't just us, for a server to come to our table just to take the drink order. Since we had waited about 15 mins, we were able to provide our meal choice at the same time. The food came out about 15 to 20 mins later. It was hot, which was great but the fried chicken was very dry and the mash potatoes had no flavor. The rest of the order was just ok. Our server was zipping around trying to handle several different tables and we did understand it was busy. However, we tried 4 different times to catch her attention to ask for more tea and water. She was walking right past us and we were actively waving our hands and calling to her. On the fifth pass, she finally acknowledged us. We asked for a refill. Instead of stating she would be right back, we got a lecture as to how busy she was. But she would come back with the drinks. 20 mins later, and 4 tables of food and drinks, we gave up. We never got a refill. We waved down a very helpful busboy for a to go box. We boxed up the rest of our lunch and left so that we could have a beverage with our meal. Maybe it was the wrong day but the service was awful. Even the lady who checked us out was just down right grumpy. So much for customer service. Skip it. The food is not that great to deal with poor service. read more

Very pleased with the food and the service. We don't often go to this type restaurant as y wife does not care for them but she was impressed with them. We were in a group of about 30 and we were there during nomal lunch time. Orders were taken as people arrived instead of waiting for the entire crowd. Wait staff did a great job handling our group and their normal crowd. Generous portions of nicely seasoned food. I had the country style steak that cut with a fork, rice and gravy and green beans. All very good. Wife's fried chicken was the best she has had eating out. Two full plates and an extra dessert for $20 and change. Will go back. read more

We were a bit concerned walking in , as its not your average eatery in Greenville SC area. We were pleasantly surprised though. The place was like walking into 1975 and in a good way ! Very reasonable prices, and food was outstanding ! We both had the classic meat and three dishes and were completely satisfied ! Country Style Steak, mashed taters, Mac n Cheese, and Peach cobbler were all 100% on point. Fried Chicken, and Salad Bar were delicious and fresh ! We love southern country style cuisine and this little place has it all figured out ! You wont regret a visit to this place....we will be back again and again ! read more

We go often for what seems to be the entire neighborhood favorite-the turkey dinner on Sunday after church! it's a little less food on the plate, than it used to be, but it is very yummy! It's a madhouse but we all love it! The staff is the friendliest out there! read more

i eat here often because of their "home cooking", good prices , and changing daily menu. I just wanted to say with cool weather coming they have the best vegetable beef soup I've found outside of my own. A good bowl of veggie soup and cornbread is always a good choice here. read more

Absolutely the worst food ever! Prices are high, not worth the drive over to Greer. Was extremely dissatisfied.

Great food Great service. I would recommend the country style state. With macaroni and cheese and green beans.

This place is some serious down home cooking. I had the Pork Chop Plate and I'm here to tell you...absolutely the biggest pork chops I have seen in a restaurant. They were huge, tasty and fried to perfection. It was so good we went back the next day too! If you're in Greer, South Carolina, and you're hungry...you REALLY need to check out South House!! read more

The chicken was dry or over cooked. The sides are really good. I'll try something else next time I go.

I have eaten here a couple times and it has always been good. The prices are good for the servings as well.

Saw this place on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. Man, are we glad we did. I couldn't get over the Saturday night special. The NY strip and 2 sides for $9.50. I know it used to be $8 something from other reviews. Still a great deal. Service was great and very friendly. Food came out lightning fast. The steak melted in my mouth and the potato was nice and soft. Really, for the money you absolutely can't beat this restaurant. This restaurant has stood the test of time and isn't trendy or fashionable but is just what the doctor ordered. Great food at a great price. We will be back for sure. read more

We tried this restaurant on the Sunday. We did not have the Buffet. We ordered off the menu and it was very good so good we had to wait a little while. Not long and it was certainly worth the wait. Service was wonderful. It's what one would call a Country restaurant. They are not trying to impress people with fancy paintings just good food. read more

Very, very good food in this little restaurant off the 101. No ambience and it's a bit shabby but that's part of the appeal! The food is excellent, service was extremely fast, and everything was piping hot. My husband ordered the "hamburger steak, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and turnip greens. I ordered the fried chicken breast, and three different veggies. His macaroni and cheese was fabulous, so good I left him some. His meat and vegetables were very tasty. My fried chicken breast was large, juicy, and so big I took most home for another meal. We will be coming back here on a regular basis! read more

This is a great back to basics place to eat. We are in the area working so when we found this place we started eating here everynight because they have something different on the menu each day. We have not been disappointed! We can both eat for less than 20.00 and it has been good every time. read more

I purchased Cherry Pie today and it was so deliciou. It reminded me when I attended Tryon Street Elementary and my aunt and cafeteria staff would make it and my aunt Christen would always give me extra crust. I ate it as slowly as possibl, because it was that goo. read more

Nasty in side out. Sorry but it's a dirty place. I don't feel it very clean. Will not return

Our family went to South House yesterday for the first time. We were not disappointed. The food was fresh and delicious. The staff was very friendly and attentive. This restaurant is about 1 hour away for us but we will definitely be back. read more

Not only is this the Bomb in home style cooking, but we got to enjoy senior plates and Child plates and weren't seniors or children. We told the waitress we were in a bit of a hurry (thought this was a buffet but Yelp classified it incorrectly). We enjoyed chicken and dumplings, which were just what the doctor ordered--just like I remember eating as a kid. Cabbage, greens, and the best corn bread I have had in years!! Fast, friendly, and fresh out of the oven. If I am ever in the area again, I am so going back here. I rarely give five stars, but this hole in the wall dive was exceptional southern cooking. Nothing fancy. Just simple done right. Great job, y'all! read more

I don't usually say anything about how unhappy I am with a business unless it gets to be happening more an more. I had been looking forward to getting the whole catfish for over a week and we get there sn after we placed our orders the very nice waitress comes back to me and says they are out of the catfish. I don't know if she saw it in the upset look I had on my face, but she apologized a few times. I looked on the menu and decided to get something they had on special. Whatever you do ,don't settle for something that is on special. I couldn't finish my meal because I started to have the worst pain in my stomach. Anyway before we could get home I told my wife to find a place she could pull over. I don't want to say what I did so I'll leave it to the imagination . I still like this restaurant but I'm not happy when I go an can't get what I want. Stay Safe , GOD BLESS read more

Been eating here since 1980s!! Even after ownership changed, still delicious meat & 3 or off the menu. Always hard to decide because everything is yummy! Good local, no frills, down home restaurant. read more

Lucky find on the way to airport. The place was packed, efficient, friendly and delicious southern meals. Loved it!

Excellent food at a reasonable price! Not fancy, very casual, but the food is great. Lots of older retired people. Homemade sides and deserts. They gladly make substitutions. If your hungry and want to fill that belly, check them out! read more

What a gem! Don't let the crowded parking lot scare you! These folks know how to run a restaurant. The South House is my place for "meat & 3 and short order type lunches. This week I had the fried flounder. Great portions, fried perfectly, I ordered mine served with hush puppies, crinkle cut French fries and coleslaw. It was very good. The only issue I've encountered is deciding on WHAT to eat. I've never had a bad meal and I visit about once a week. read more

Best meat and three in the Greenville area! Sunday's and noon are always crowded but service is fast and wit is usually short.

Probably the best meat and three anywhere around. Also the fillet catfish plate is the bomb. Better than any local seafood restaurant

Great service great food always friendly and not expensive. Is good country cooking at it's best would recommend to anyone and everyone

I have eaten here twice now and I have to say it is becoming one of my fav places. Home cooked meat and veggies along with many other choices. Had their turkey and dressing today and it tastes like mine at Thanksgiving. So glad I realized this place is 5 mins away from me read more

This place is the best! As close to grandma's cooking as you can get!!!! One of Greer's best restaurants for sure!

Casual but comfortable. My 5 & 8 year olds each had choices they liked so there's plenty of variety. Feels like home cooking.

Great food! This is the kind of food Grandma would've cooked. The downside is that we went on a Sunday afternoon & had to fight the church crowds. Church people are great, but undisciplined kids are not. The restaurant Emma's filled with babies & toddlers who needed discipline. It's very hard to enjoy such great food with all the crying babies & toddlers. I would not go back for Sunday lunch to avoid parents who cannot make their children behave, but I would most certainly eat there on other days. read more
