I would have rated them one star if I hadn't experienced mixed results on several jobs. When they're not in a rush they do good work and the price is fair. But it's not worth it when they are in a hurry, do sloppy work (poor clean up) and cause damages without fixing the problems (cut down wrong tree, broke sprinkler line, sheared limb off of a specimen tree while trying to remove a dead limb from a large tree above, etc.). I had a huge tree-sized branch bust off an old oak tree this last winter and do damage to my shop roof, and some very minor damage to my deck cover. They came out quick, with a whole crew, crane, bucket truck, and had it removed in a few hours without any additional damage. read more

We have 25 tall trees in our backyard that needed their lower limbs removed. We had South Hill Tree Service to do the job. They came on time. They were considerate of our property. I hired South Hill Tree Service to remove a large maple tree and stump from behind my house. I couldn't be happier. To begin, Jake and his crew came to my house and removed the tree, limb by limb. They then carried each piece to the front and chipped it up. After that they cleaned the area and were gone. Next Mark and Lee came and ground the stump down to about 10 inches below ground level. The final job I had asked for was planting a ornamental Lace Leaf Maple in place of the original tree. The employees were always right on time, never late. They went above and beyond what was asked of them and left a clean workplace when they left. Disappointed. We scheduled work to be complete on a maple tree that was not looking good. The agreement was that they would come out, remove the dead parts of the tree, and haul the debris. They showed up and the crew of three seemed like nice people. After getting set up, they cut some dead branches out the tree. The disappointing part was when the climber came down after a brief amount of time. He told me that there was a lot more dead parts of the tree and recommend that I have them back out. He told me about a dead branch that he could look through that was still in the tree. I told him that it was my understanding they were here to take care of the dead parts of the tree. He said, "We can't do that today, we would need a more equipment. Also we have another job to get to." As they came to realize that I was not happy, they told me that they would come back out and figure something out to make it right. Reluctantly, I paid them the full $1150. The total amount of chipped branches were less than a wheel barrel full from start to finish they were on my property for less than 1.5 hours. Awsome job! Price was nice. Job was done on time, quickly, and proficiently. We had two trees taken down and stumps ground out. One tree was close to eighty feet tall. They cut the trunks into 16 to 18 inch rounds, which we kept for fire wood, and removed the branches. Did a great clean-up job too. read more

Tried many times to get ahold of the company to get a bid to cut back some trees. No call back. Tried in the spring to get ahold of them. Finally after a week of calling, get a call back and they say they will call soon to setup a bid. No call back. I guess they don't want my business anymore. Used South Hill in the past and was very happy. Not sure what is going on with them now. Can't even get them to come out for a bid. Disappointing. I recommend Agro Tree Service from Federal Way. Used them to get my jobs done today. Quick friendly response from the owner. Competitive bid. Friendly professional workers and a professional job and clean up. I had many trees trimmed and 2 cut down back on 10/25/18. For the trees cut down, I paid to have the stumps ground up, which they said they would come back to do. Meanwhile they put stump-killer on the stumps. So now they won't return my calls (3 so far) when I am requesting that they come back to grind up the stumps. They went from a 5 star service to 1 star in my book. Disgusted that I paid for work not done and now no call back from them. read more

We wanted to have our trees windsailed and also have a few removed. After 5 bids, we chose South Hill because the cost seemed to be reasonable for the amount of work that we wanted done. Did I mention that we have dozens of trees? The guys showed up on time and ready to work. And they worked HARD, stopping when the climbers' legs gave out. This is a family business-dad, son, grandson, nephew plus a few guys. All were friendly, professional and willing to accommodate whatever small tweaks we asked for. Did I mention that they worked hard? Yes, I did and yes, they did. Overall, a great experience and our trees look so much better. They came and gave a quote for our HOA....to have several trees removed. It would have been about a $3-4,000 job for them. I made several calls to get the service scheduled, never getting a person, always voicemail. Last voicemail I stated that we were wanting to give them the job but if I didn't hear from him by end of the week that we'd have to find someone else. South Hill Tree Service has done two difficult tree jobs for us. One was taking down a very large, dangerous dead/rotten Alder tree and the other was topping down a long row of growing alder trees to preserve a view. The bids were competitive and we went with them because of other reviews indicating they had a lot of experience and were great with clean up. We were not disappointed. The entire process was friendly, professional, & skilled, done with care and safety. They showed care and respect for surrounding landscaping and property & addressed any concerns we shared.
